Itunes force quitting

whenever i click on a certian imported movie all itune does it force quit i cant delete it and i cant do anything to it i need some help no matter what i try to do to the movie itunes automatically forcequits and i cant do anything to stop it

Hi,
Try this:
Use Spotlight to find it then delete it outside of iTunes.
When you next launch iTunes it will not be able to find it and should come up with an exclamation mark next to it.
You can then delete this entry.
Hope this fixes it.

Colin R.

  • Cannot close iTunes by any method, Force Quit or otherwise.

Once opened, I cannot close iTunes without forcing a shutdown. "Quit iTunes", "Force Quit", etc. program immediately reopens and prevents a "Restart".

Well, it's hard to know why it's choking in the first place. So, the first two things I would try are:
Delete these files in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder:
    /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
    /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist
    /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
Delete this folder in the /Home/Library/Caches/ folder:
    com.apple.iTunes
If your /Home/Library/ folder is not visible then do this:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
         chflags nohidden ~/Library
    Press RETURN.
Restart your computer then see if the iTunes problem is fixed.

  • ITunes 10.7 crashes all apps on Mountain Lion including Force Quit. First system wide prob with an apple computer since OSX introduced. Any ideas?

updated to iTunes 10.7  from app Store last night. After the update, iTunes opens then stalls with the "spinning pizza wheel". Force Quit is unresponsive and will not shut it down. If I then open other applications say Safari for example, the problem migrates over to Safari and it similarly stalls and becomes unresponsive. The only way to solve the problem is to manually shut the computer down. This is the most significant problem I have experienced on an apple computer since OSX was introduced because it impacts on Force Quit which means that you have to shut the whole deal down. There are obvious problems for use of Apple TV and apple store etc. ! I am running mountain lion 10.8.1 on a 27" iMac with 2T Time Capsule connected wirelessly. How do I downgrade iTunes back to 10.6? I had no problems with Mountain Lion or iTunes up to that point.

this is the exact same problem i've been dealing with for the past 2 days. after i installed itunes 10.7 for my iphone5 it would crash my mbp's lion system wide. i tried every solution i could find on google and i've actually had to reinstall lion & time machine my backups because of it. right now i'm too scared to redownload itunes 10.7. i actually feel like waiting for the "new itunes" that comes out in october.

  • Forced iTunes to quit now it won't open anymore and it took Quicktime down

I moved my iTunes files over when I got a new computer and I have added a lot to of new material since then. Recently I plugged my iPod into the old computer to access it's hard drive and, much to my surprise, it was still authorized for the old iTunes and it immediatly tried to synchronize. This of course meant that it began deleting all the new files on my iPod (like about 400 new songs) that I had added with the other computer.
In a panic I pushed the COMMAND-Period combination and escape and just about any other of the familiar commands to stop something like that from continuing. I think it was a forced quit that finally stopped it and that action might have been a mistake. Ever since then iTunes will no longer open and it took Quicktime down with it.
Every other application opens just fine but now when I try to open iTunes or Quicktime player they just hang. The icon bounces in the dock and the little black triangle appears below it but the application never actually opens. It doesn't quit itself, it just hangs there in a half open state and only a forced quit will stop it from hanging there forever. If I am in the finder when I open it I sometimes get an endless beach ball.
I completely deleted the music and library files, I deleted all the preferences, I even completely deleted both applications and everything I could find related to them and re-installed them both from scratch. Nothing has worked so far and I'm beginning to wonder if something went haywire in the operating system related to these programs.
Another odd glitch that I have noticed in attempting to fix this issue is that the Disk utility is failing when I try to verify or repair permissions. It goes about half way through the process and then claims it cannot continue. I've never seen that before and I'm not sure if it's related.
Does anyone have any idea what I have done to my computer and how to get this issue fixed? I'm getting ready to completely reinstall the operating system but that seems a bit drastic.
    Any other ideas?
    The computer is:
    Early G4 500 Mhz
    512 Meg of RAM
    OS 10.3.9
    iTunes 6.0.4
    Quicktime 7.0.4

it's saying i need apple support or something?
Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Itunes won't open, won't force quit, won't anything

This problem started about a month ago and now it's critical.
When I click the itunes icon, it bounces and then freezes. itunes won't open. It also won't force quit. I can't shut down because, it says, itunes won't quit. I have to hold down the power button 7 seconds to shut down and then restart. My IT guy at work (who is a Mac person) showed me how to repair permissions and the first half dozen or so times this happened, that worked. Now it won't. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes. I've tried reinstalling and repairing permissions. I've rebooted and repaired and reinstalled.
This is the kind of thing I switched from PCs to get away with.
Does anyone have any ideas? I really need to be able to use itunes.
    Thanks,
    Teresa

    Teresa
Here are some basic to try in turn, see if any one will help:
Ensure that you have the latest version of the OS and Quicktime and iTunes.
    1. Delete the com.apple.iTunes.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    2. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • I have an iPod Classic and when I try to move songs from my library to my iPod, my iTunes freezes. When I tried to eject my iPod, nothing happened and I had to force quit iTunes. When I unplugged my iPod, all of my songs had been deleted. What can I do?

After attempting to move songs from my iTunes library to my iPod Classic, the pinwheel kept spinning and iTunes froze. I tried pressing CTRL E to eject the iPod, but nothing happened. I unplugged the iPod then force quit iTunes, but when I checked my iPod all of the songs had been deleted. I tried plugging the iPod back in and slowly moved music over again, but iTunes still froze. I don't want to restore it to factory settings because I am afraid of losing the pictures I have on there and can't figure out how to get them off.

    Are you using a Macbook?
If all your songs on the iPod are deleted, most likely the photios are gone too.
Unless you put the photos, via Diskmode.
To recover the photos that you've put in Diskmode, use Finder to locate where it is in the iPod.
Try also if iPhoto can locate those photos.

  • My itunes kept saying it needed to update.  So I tried it and then it wouldn't update, so I force quit it.  now it won't open at all :(?

my itunes kept saying it needed to update.  I tried it and then it wouldn't stop trying to update.  So I force quit it.  Now I can't open itunes at all.  I tried option/command and safe mode, it won't open at all

Are you using a very old version of OS X?  Are you using a very old computer?

  • Updated to iTunes 11.2.1, phone won't sync and have to force quite iTunes.

    Hi,
I just updated iTunes to 11.2.1, as well as the most recent Lion (? at work, can't look up which OS or version) update for my MacBook. Now iTunes will open, but it will not sync with my phone (I have an iPhone 4, A1332), and won't iTunes won't close without a force quit.
My phone does sync to iPhoto, which leads me to believe it's a problem with the new iTunes.
I've seen quite a few posts close to this, but they have iTunes crashing rather than opening and not syncing.
Is there a fix for this, or a new version coming out soon?
How can I downgrade to a working iTunes? I didn't have time machine set up, is there another way to revert?
    Thanks

Sync now working. In Outlook, selected View, Current View, Events. Then View, Current View, Customize Current View, then Fields, all appointment fields, and moved reminder into the view. Then clicked every event that had a reminder, set the reminder to none, and eventually returned to the Day Week Month view. Next sync, all events synced both ways.
    Success. !!

  • Installed Itunes 8.1 and now it crashes at close and must be force quit.

I just installed Itunes 8.1 on my Mac. I did not realize any issues at first. I can still change cover art, make new playlists but when clicking on the info button (for previously purchased content and in the Itunes Store) the info page opens so big I cannot see the bottom or the top and I cannot close the info page. The only way to get rid of the info page is to close Itunes which crashes and must be force quit.
This is very disappointing. I will not use the info button until a fix is made to this release. I have already seen the posts that you cannot re-install the lower versions.. This was very badly done.

Because I really needed to view the info on new items available in the iTunes Store I experimented with my display settings.
By lowering the display settings to 1280x800
(still could not see bottom of box at that time)
and then raising it back up to 1440x900
I was finally able to see the bottom of the resized box
and now when the box is opened it maintains the new size.
Hopefully next upgrade the box will default to the lowest and not the largest box size on windows and you can resize from there..

  • Time Machine very slow, Safari and iTunes have to Force Quit

Anyone else having these issues after Mavericks "upgrade"?
Time Machine is so slow as to be ineffective of useless, symtoms:
         - takes hours to prepare and run a backup of a couple of GB to the Time Capsule, anything up to 20 hrs!
         - constantly revising the amount to be backed up, up and down
         - seems to freeze periodically ad stick part way through with no change to the backed amount for hours, then speeds up, freezes, speeds up
         - time remaining estimate alternates between "casculating, estimates of hours and seconds! wildly inaccurate
                  - it's been saying 5 seconds remaining for the last 2 hrs.
         - have done two backup verifications to check for Time Capsule problems - none
         - only two successful backups achieved since the Maverisks "upgrade" due to the time it takes
         - both Time Capsule and Airport Express have the latest firmware and software
Coincident with this, both Safari and iTunes (the latest Mavericks compatible versions) both freeze when trying to quit them - have to force quit.  Both experience random slow downs and with the spinning rainbow beachball.
Looks like a Mavericks problem with the Wifi and Timemachine?
Using a late 2008 aluminium unibody Macbook with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, 100Gb of free space o the SSD.  Connecting via Wifi to Time Capsule (2TB, with 1.8TB free) and Airport Express (both n Wifi).

Check whether there is a crash report:
Go to your Applications Folder and open your Utilities Folder. Open the application Console.
In the left-hand column, click on Crash Reporter.
Click on the small triangle under Crash Reporter in the l/h column and they will all be listed.
Scroll down to the latest Safari report and click on it.
Now click on the r/h column (which now only shows THAT crash report and then Command-a to copy it all.
Come back here and Command-v it to post it here!

  • Force quit of iTunes upgrade has affected my iTunes app.. How can I fix my iTunes?

I was in the process of upgrading my iTunes software on to my Macbook Pro while at the same time checking youtube. My computer froze up and the only option I thought I had was to force quit. Now my iTunes has been affected and it wont work. A box with 3 options-one being to relaunch comes up which i select. Then another box with reset and relaunch comes up which I also select. But It doesn't help. The first box comes up again and so the endless cycle begins. Does anyone know how to fix this problem, pleeease...!
    Thankyou.

It seems to be working now. I noticed it kept crashing on the same song so I just deleted the file and now it's processing the files. I guess the song was corrupted or something. So far so good...

  • Have to force quit iTunes 98% of the time

It did not improve with iTunes 8.
Every time i go to the iTunes store (purchase or not) when I want to quit iTunes I get the beach ball and the fan kicks on until I force quit. Much of the time just listing to music the same thing occurs.
    Tips?

I'm also having a similar problem with iTunes 8.0.1 on Leopard 10.5.5
It consistently freezes when I'm using the iTunes Store. I'm usually able to browse the store and if I find what I'm looking for and make the purchase I can quit iTunes normally, if I leave the store before it freezes. If I wait for iTunes to freeze I'm unable to force quit, access the terminal, taskbar or anything else. I have to force the power off and reboot in order to use the computer again once I experience the freeze.
I had the good fortune to have two identical iMacs and have the problem on both. I've done a clean install on both computers and continue to have the problem on both after clean installs. The problem appeared shortly after the release of iTunes 8.0 on the first computer. I almost miss my Windows Vista Ultimate computer (almost).

  • After force quitting iTunes, now my phone is "in use" by another user

OK, here's what just happened to me tonight. I had the "beach ball of death" in iTunes, so I used a force quit. Now when I plug in my week old iPhone 4, I'm getting the message that this phone is already in use by another user on this computer. Huh?!? For one thing, I am the ONLY user although I do have a "guest" account, but I'm logged in on my regular account.
I've tried restarting iTunes, same message. Every time I plug in the phone it's doing it now. So, how am I supposed to sync my phone now?
Has anyone else had this problem after force quitting iTunes? Any ideas?

Nope, tried that, didn't work. 3 complete reboots didn't worked either. However, on the 4th complete computer reboot, it worked!! I don't know why, but I'm happy that I can sync again.
I guess it just reinforces the old, "if at first you don't succeed...."
    {:)

  • After update - iTunes freezes and needs a force quit when I plug in any device!

I recently update to OS X Yosemite and I also updated my iTunes to 12.1 - but now every time I plug in my iPhone 6 or my iPad mini, my iTunes freezes and I have to force quit. So now I can't even plug in and sync my devices or update them or do anything!
    Help? Anyone?

Anybody have any idea how to fix this? Or anything similar happening to you?
