Itunes forcing me to buy songs I own

I just got a 30GB Ipod and hooked it up. Transferred music over... and its trying to force me to buy songs I already own.
These are things I downloaded for free directly from the Artists site.
***??? I'm not going to buy songs the ARTIST gave me for free. I may buy other songs on their albums, but not the ones I already have.
What can I do?

iTunes is not forcing you to buy anything.
Click the song and press Play.
Don't click the arrow after the song title.
I'm not going to buy songs the ARTIST gave me for free. I may buy other songs on their albums
Which is why you click on the arrows after the song name, artist or album. That takes you to the relevant section in the iTunes store so if you are interested, you can see more music by the same artist.
If you ctrl click on those arrows, it will show you the same info in your library.
For example, ctrl click the arrow after the artist name and iTunes will display only songs in your library by that artist.

  • Where to buy songs, but not from  iTunes?

I'm a 75 year old retired man who simply loves to take pictures of my family and all other family events that occur in what is left of my limited time here on earth!..
And, I'm having the time of my life creating wonderful slideshows of these events, especially when I add the music to the slideshow!..
Most all the time I add music from my own purchased personal library.
But, I just found out that Apple will not allow me to use any songs that I've purchased from itunes for any slideshow which I burn onto a dvd!..
So, my question here is: Does anyone know what website I can go to in order to purchase music that's not bogged down with these "copywrite laws" similar to Apple's restrictions?..
I'm sure I can buy songs on the internet, but the big question here is, can the songs be imported into "Garage Band" ?....
    I'd appreciate any info.
    thanks

Put your purchased songs into a playlist. Set the iTunes preferences for burning to burn to an Audio CD. Now burn you playlist of purchased songs to a standard Audio CD. You have now created a nice backup of your music as Apple suggests you do.
This standard Audio CD works like any other CD. So you can play in on other audio CD players, put it in your computer drive and play the music directly off it if you like, and gosh, seems you can also import the music on a standard audio CD to iTunes in whatever format you prefer (e.g. MP3, etc.). Of course as you know, stuff you import off audio CDs can be burned in your slideshows.

Wanted to upload some songs from my iTunes Library to new Nano.
Hooked it up, went through the promps, choose two playlists to load, and before we could say oops, we saw that it was infact loading the entire library. We had no way of stopping the process so we unplugged it.
Now when I try to open iTunes it I get an error message :"The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I verified permissions and repaired them. No luck.
    Help! Please!

  • Trying to Buy Songs thru iTunes - can't get it done - What's wrong?

I just got my ipod. Did all the signup stuff - downloaded itunes 7.2. Went to the store - found a song - clicked buy song. It takes me to a screen promoting the new version of itunes. I have alrady downloaded that -- 3 times now -- rebooting the computer after each time. My PC confirms - i've installed it -- but i downloaded it again anyway. Anyway - I do go back to the store after each install and click "buy song" again. Same result.
How do i get to the next step. There are no other instructions on that screen.
Is there another place i can buy music?
    Any and all help appreciated...

Maybe try downloading and installing the update manually via this website:

Try rebooting it and connect. Make sure you're connected directly to a USB port using the Apple USB cable.

If you are now in the US then you can only use the US store, so you should update the address on your account
Changing country : Change the country of your iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, and Mac App Store account.
Had you copied the songs over to your computer's iTunes library, do they show in the Music section on it ? You can copy purchases that you still have on your iPad over to your computer's iTunes library via the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option

  • I got a new iPhone and i am trying to buy songs but when I go to buy a song on iTunes it says I have to answer my security questions and I don't remember the answers. I pressed where it says for them to email you your answers but I haven't gotten an email

I got a new iPhone and i am trying to buy songs but when I go to buy a song on iTunes it says I have to answer my security questions and I don't remember the answers. I pressed where it says for them to email you your answers but I haven't gotten an email.  Is there another way to change or get the answers for the security questions?

If the email hasn't arrived after a few hours and isn't in a spam filter, you need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, or clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed in either article, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

How can i buy songs off itunes that you can't get on the Canadian version but you can in the u.k. version
I would really like to get these songs (not illegally like most people) because i really like them but they are only in the U.K. or Irish version of iTunes and I'm on the Canadian version
If anyone can tell me how i could possibly get these that would be great thanks

OS X is the same no matter where you buy it.  You can switch it to Japanese or one of 30 other languages in few seconds via the system preferences.
If you want a Japanese keyboard as well, you can select that when you configure your purchase:

  • MY ITUNES GIFT CARD DOES NOT WORK. FOR 3 DAYS I'VE BEEN TRYING TO BUY SONGS, AND IT DOES NOT WORK. I NEED A PHONE NUMBER TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE.

THIS IS LIKE THE FOURTH TIME I AM WRITING ABOUT THIS. FOR THREE DAYS I'VE BEEN TRYING TO BUY SONGS PAYING WITH AN ITUNES GIFT CARD, I DID SIGN IN, PUT THE CODE OF THE CARD WHERE IT SAID "REDEEM", AND IN ITUNES, NEXT TO MY SIGN IN NAME, APEAR THE $15. OF MY CARD, BUT WHEN I CLICK THE SONG I WANT TO BUY, IT ASK ME AGAIN FOR MY PASSWORD, THEN FOR A SECURITY QUESTIONS WHICH I DON'T KNOW, IS EITHER THAT OF ASK MY TO UPDATE MY CREDIT CARD INFO, "BUT" I'M NOT PAYING WITH MY CREDIT CARD.
PLEASE, HOW CAN I BUY THE SONGS USING MY ITUNES GIFT CARD PLAIN AND EASY??????
I NEED A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL SOMEONE IN APPLE/ITUNES WHO REALLY KNOW HOW TO DO THIS,.
    I AM WRITING FROM MASSACHUSETTS.
    THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!

(Typing all in capitals is considered shouting, makes posts difficult to read and may mean that people are less likely to reply.)
There isn't a phone number for iTunes Support.
If you've forgotten your answers to your security questions then you can get them reset : If you forgot the answers to your Apple ID security questions
If you have a credit card on your account then its details have to complete - and asking for their details is also a way of checking that you have a valid billing address in that country. As long as you are buying content for yourself and not trying to gift content (you can't use your balance for gifting) then the purchase price (plus any applicable taxes) should be deducted from your balance. If it's not then you contact iTunes Support :  http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

    Hi E_WM7,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
Take a look at the article linked below, it provides suggestions that may be able to resolve the authorization issue.

  • If I change the nation setting of my iTunes in order to buy a song from the American iTunes store, then change my setting back to the Korean store (where you cannot buy music) will that create any problems with my downloaded content?

If I change the nation setting of my iTunes in order to buy a song from the American iTunes store, then change my setting back to the Korean store (where you cannot buy music) will that create any problems with my downloaded content? I want to buy an album that I cannot get hold of in Korea, but it is available in the US iTunes store. However since most of my apps are downloaded from the Korean store I'll need to switch back in order to update them. Does anyone know if there are any issues in doing this. I'd rather find out before I spend money, change my store setting back to Korea, and then get told I can't listen to the music because I bought it from the US store and my iTunes is set to the Korean store.
    Cheers.

You canot easily change your country settings.  The iTunes Store in a country is intended only for use by that country's residents, and only while they are in the country. To use the iTunes Store in a country you need a credit card (or other card type if acceptable in a country) issued in that country, billed to an address in that country, and also be physically present in that country when using the store.  You are also restricted to waiting 90 days between country changes.

Hi mterry1723, one solution that might be worth trying is this:
    - Close iTunes, if it's open
    - Open Safari and got to 'Preferences'
    - Select 'Security' on the top
    - Untick all the security options in the menu
    - Click the 'Show Cookies' button and look for all the 'apple' entries in the left-hand column.
    - Highlight them (select them collectively) and press 'Remove'
    - Now open iTunes and buy the song as usual.
    - You may be asked to do the same security process as before, so do as asked.
    - Hopefully, the security check will now have accepted your answers and start downloading the song as normal.
Remember to re-tick all the required security options you had just un-ticked in Safari preferences. You don't need to bother about opening the cookies again.
I hope this has worked for you and my profoundest apologies if it has not. Worth a go, though!
I did see this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18259935#18259935 which may be of more help, mainly the last entry by 'c2boyd'
