ITunes freezes after any change in Preferences

After any change in Preferences, I get a message saying "WindowsMobileDeviceApp has stopped working", and then iTunes freezes. I have tried reinstalling iTunes as a repair, but it didn't work. Any ideas?

I don't have an answer to this, but a couple of things you might try.
If you don't have an iPhone it is OK to uninstall the Mobile Divices Support program. I've uninstalled mine with out problems. You can put it back any time by doing a repair install of iTunes.
The other thing you might try is to delete your preference files in case they have got corrupted. This takes you back to how you were when you first installed iTunes. If you have any special prefernces they will be lost, so make note of them.
You may need to make hidden files visible
My Documents>Tools>Folder Options>View
Check Show hidden files and folders
-- Quit iTunes
-- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml
-- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml
For Vista the files are in:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes

Itunes freezes after upgrading to OS X Mavericks v10.9.3 on connecting iPhone 5.
I tried it with a differnt Iphone and the results are the same. Any suggestions?

    Hi JZN1994,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that after updating your computer to 10.9.3 iTunes stops responding when an iPhone is connected to it. There may be few different steps you will need to go through to get this resolved. I suggest working through the steps in the attached article.

  • Why do I continue to receive notifications, even after I change my preferences?

why do I continue to receive notifications, even after I change my preferences? I had about 100 or so today. I switched all of my notification anwers to NO, as in , I don't want to receive any email from apple communities whatsoever. ??? Thanks.

You need to double check that you aren't subscribed to the community, not just to the question you asked.  Go to the community that you are receiving the emails from and the same box called "Actions" will appear there just like it does next to the individual question.  Make sure that you are not reciveing email notifications for that community.  Probably the community  where you asked your question.  Typically that is what causes people to get 100's of email notifications. I think that this is not included in the tutorial so a lot of people miss it.
    Hope that works for you.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • After upgrade to  9.1.0.79 iTunes freezes after importing CD

I've just upgraded this morning to iTunes 9.1.0.79 on my Windows 7 laptop.
After the upgrade, everything looked OK, except when loading a CD it seemed to be loaded by Windows Media player rather than iTunes (and didn't show up in the iTunes DEVICES) so reassociated iTunes when prompted and rebooted laptop
Still had the same issue, but found that if I didn't start iTunes first, then it would prompt me to import the CD. However then found that after loading the last track, iTunes would freeze up and show as "Not responding" in Taskmgr. The only way out was to kill iTunes process. All album tracks were imported, except the last one.
After a couple of reboots and checks, I was just doing a final re-run to make this post and everything suddenly seems to now be working... i.e. with iTunes running, if I put in my CD it now imports it for me and doesn't hang
I am a little nervous about this as I haven't done any changes since it didn't work...
Has anyone seem something like this before with this version ?

OK, so here's what is happening now....
The only way I can get CDs imported now is to
    1. load a CD without iTunes loaded, so it then launches iTunes for me and I can click the Import button
    2. After that, if I change the CD then iTunes will give me the prompt to import the CD
    3. After two or three CD changes, it stops prompting me, so I have to go back to step 1 again
Bizairely, even when it doesnt list the CD, it still allows me to eject the CD succesfully, so it seems to know it's there....
Seems like a bug in the latest update to me, as I had auto import of CDs working fine just a week ago.....

  • Itunes freezes after attaching iphone

    Hello,
Everytime i attach my iPhone to the computer, iTunes freezes. It stops either on step 2 or 3, where it's trying to sync the music or preparing the iPhone to synchronise. I've already tried reinstalling iTunes, and updated all my apps on my iPhone. I've also tried cancelling the synchronising process, when i do that and go to the 'iPhone' screen on iTunes it still freezes. My iTunes is all up to date. Turning off and on my iPhone and computer didn't work either. My iphone is not jailbroken and my computer is running on windows 7 64 bit. What can i do?

    Hello Danielkok93,
Thank you for all the information you provided!  iTunes crashing every time you try to sync would definitely get frustrating.  I found a few articles that might help with your issue.
I would start with this article just to verify everything is working on the iTunes side of things.  It sounds like you've already done steps 1 and 5, so you can skip those:
iOS: Resolving update and restore alert messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
If you're still not able to sync after that, you might want to try backing up and restoring your iPhone:
    iOS: How to back up
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
You might also need to turn off the automatic syncing to be able to get to this point:
To prevent unprompted syncing for all iPod, iPhone, and iPad devices:
In iTunes, choose Edit > Preferences.
    Click Devices.
Select “Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.”
If this checkbox is selected, any connected iPod, iPhone, or iPad won’t sync without being prompted.
You can find the full article here:
iTunes 10 for Windows: Prevent unprompted syncing of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad

    I hope this helps!
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • Found Solution(?) for iTunes freeze after files copying to iPod

I have a fairly new (2-3 months old) iPod Video and it worked fine for a good while. At some point any time I made an alteration to the files on the iPod (like a play list) or added files everything would freeze up once the action was completed. I would have to ctrlaltdel and bring up the Task Manager and force iTunes to quit. If I worked with a playlist or whatever on the iPod or worked with a playlist on the computer, everything was fine -- it was after copying files from the computer to the iPod where things messed up. Nobody seemed to know what to do... I couldn't find a solution online with Apple either -- though I did reinstall iTunes, Quicktime and the iPod software...
A week or two ago I, for some reason, was messing around while my iPod was attached to my computer and noticed I could select it for a defrag with Disk Defragmenter. I decided I'd see HOW fragmented the thing was. Pretty much! I went ahead and ran the defrag and, low and behold, everything works like it should now! Back to normal!
So, I assume that is what my problem was. If anyone else has a similar problem you might look at this...
    Good luck!
    Dell Inspiron 1100   Windows XP

By playing them you have made changes - to the last played date and the play count. If you rated or re-rated the song, that would also count as a change. If youre iPod is set to auto-sync, iTunes would write those changes back to your iPod. I'm not sure, though, why it would do that if you manually sync.

  • Itunes freezes after I plug in my 4.3 updated Iphone.

I updated itunes to the most recent version and then updated my iphone4 to version 4.3. Everything seemed to have finished and worked ok until I went to try and sync my iphone again. I open itunes and it works fine but as soon as I plug in my iphone itunes frezes and my iphone never shows up. As soon as I unplug the phone itunes works fine again. Same with the iphone, as soon as its not connected everything works fine but when I connect it itunes freezes and in task manager it says that itunes is not responding. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you,

Here is the actual solution.  This was making me crazy too.
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes (8.0.2)
Plug your USB cable into your computer.
Turn your iPhone off by holding the power button down until you see “slide to power off”. Do as instructed.
Now press and hold the Home button while reconnecting the USB cable to your iPhone. After iPhone is connected it should power on the device.
Continue holding the Home button, you will see the Apple logo appear and then finally a “Connect to iTunes” will be displayed, now is the time to release the Home button. You will then see the following image:
After this DO NOT RESTORE YOUR DEVICE!!
Unplug your device and turn it off holding the power button only.
Now start your device again, it will start up like normal.
Now plug it back into your computer.
Itunes should see it as normal and not freeze anymore.
    Good Luck!

  • ITunes freezes after playing or ripping a disc

I'm having big trouble with iTunes. Every time I play or rip a CD, iTunes freezes if I try to eject the disc or close down iTunes. Everything else works fine up to the point when I try to close iTunes and the whole PC locks up and I have to re-boot. I think the problem started when I switched from a USB ADSL modem to an ADSL router/modem. I was running iTunes 8.1 but the problem persisted after I upgraded to 8.2. I'm using Windows XP.
    Any ideas folks?

    Tania,
This exact same problem has been happening to me (and lots of other people) for quite some time now. What type of computer do you have? I'm wondering if it has something to do with Dell computers. Like someone said earlier, I don't think it's a hardware issue b/c it doesn't happen with Windows Media Player. Anyway, if you want to import your CD's to iTunes you can rip them using Media Player (in WMA format), then import these files to iTunes. This should work for the meantime until someone figures out why our iTunes keeps freezing!

  • New iTunes freezing after launch, what's going on?

After downloading the new iTunes with no problem, I've discovered that after a few seconds the programme freezes from any action. It's really starting to do my head in right now. Everything was going fine, I was downloading iOS 5 when it decided to lose connection, I tried again and same thing. After that, the problem with iTunes it self occured.
After spending a whole HOUR trying to get to the point of asking this question I am seriously fed up with this. Apple has well and truely messed up any chance of trying to persuade Blackberry users that the iPod is better since the whole update is causing more problems than what it's fixing.
If anyone can help find a "cure" for this freezing, I'd be extremely grateful. Thankfully my iPod didn't get wiped during the whole problem even though it was trying to sync at the time and then black screened for five minutes before coming to life again.

  • ITunes freezes after moving library

    Hi all,
After moving my iTunes library to an external HD (I followed the instructions...) threre are some music files (not all) making trouble. I can't play or delete them from iTunes. If I try to, iTunes freezes completely. Removing and re-installing doesn't have any effect so far.
Thanks so much for your help!
    Duko

I too moved my music libary to an external HD; however, I cannot see any music in iTunes? Suggestions?

  • Itunes freezes after plugging in ipod

    I need help!!!
Okay, I downloaded itunes 7 and everything was fine. Music playback, sound quality, and my playlists were fine. So I installed version 1.2 of the ipod software. Now everytime I update my ipod, itunes freezes in mid-update and doesn't respond.

If you are subscribed to lots of podcasts, go change them to manually update.
Which is what I had my preference set for in v6, but v7 changed it back to auto update podcasts. And with about 15 podcasts going...it brought my PC to its knees.
    Hope that helps!

  • ITunes Freezing after 10.5.5 update.

After running the OS X software update seeded today, iTunes is freezing whenever I am on the iTunes store. I cannot force quit and I also lose control of the mouse after a couple of minutes. I have to force a restart by holding the power button down for several seconds. It has happened 4 times and now I am afraid of going to the online store. Anyone experiencing this problem? I am using iTunes 8.0 BTW. This is the first time I have had to force restart my computer or had iTunes freeze on me.
    How do I fix this?
    <Edited by Moderator>

I looked on an older discussion regarding this problem (10.53 and itunes 7.xx-8) see discusssion
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1538111&tstart=0
go to System Preferences, Network, Advanced, Proxies. Then get rid of the PAC setting by setting to manual and leaving the fields blank.
This worked for me, though I previously have never had a problem in two years of owning this Mac.
Obviously this is a known bug which appears to have re-surfaced.
