ITunes freezes after playing or ripping a disc

I'm having big trouble with iTunes. Every time I play or rip a CD, iTunes freezes if I try to eject the disc or close down iTunes. Everything else works fine up to the point when I try to close iTunes and the whole PC locks up and I have to re-boot. I think the problem started when I switched from a USB ADSL modem to an ADSL router/modem. I was running iTunes 8.1 but the problem persisted after I upgraded to 8.2. I'm using Windows XP.
Any ideas folks?

Tania,
This exact same problem has been happening to me (and lots of other people) for quite some time now. What type of computer do you have? I'm wondering if it has something to do with Dell computers. Like someone said earlier, I don't think it's a hardware issue b/c it doesn't happen with Windows Media Player. Anyway, if you want to import your CD's to iTunes you can rip them using Media Player (in WMA format), then import these files to iTunes. This should work for the meantime until someone figures out why our iTunes keeps freezing!

  • ITunes freezes after playing one song

Since upgrading to the new iTunes that was released today, after playing one song in iTunes in Windows, the program freezes and the only way out is to End Process on it. This only happens the first time that Windows starts up. After iTunes freezes and I End Process on it, and then run it again, it doesn't have this problem until the next time that Windows starts up.
Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

Turns out "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" was doing something that held up the computer when I used iTunes. So I followed these steps to disable the service permanently (since I don't use Windows Media Player): http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/fix-wmpnetwk-exe-in-windows-7/

  • Itunes freezes after playing 10+ songs

Anyone else have this happen? I click around listening to samples, then after about 10 itunes will not play another. I can get it to work again by closing itunes and closing the process itunes.exe.
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but try repairing it with itunes setup. If that dosnt work try reinstalling itunes. if that dosnt work, then i have no idea. =(

  • Freezes after playing video playlist

My 60G freezes after playing my video playlist. I have to wait until the battery runs down then plug it in to reboot it for it to work again. I took it back to Best Buy where I purchased it, and they installed the latest update. They claimed this would fix the problem. Wrong! Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

There is no screen event triggered when the video finishes playing that you can use to jump to the next slide or unhide a button to enable the user to navigate forward at a time of their own choosing.
If you know the duration of the video, you can place a navigation button on the timeline at that point so that it appears just after the video finishes playing.  However, you may find that on different PCs with different system specs the video may take slightly more or less time to play.

  • Itunes freezes after upgrading to OS X Mavericks v10.9.3 on connecting iPhone 5

Itunes freezes after upgrading to OS X Mavericks v10.9.3 on connecting iPhone 5.
I tried it with a differnt Iphone and the results are the same. Any suggestions?

    Hi JZN1994,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that after updating your computer to 10.9.3 iTunes stops responding when an iPhone is connected to it. There may be few different steps you will need to go through to get this resolved. I suggest working through the steps in the attached article.

  • ITunes "hangs" after playing first two tracks

Testing with three different CDs, I have discovered that my iTunes "hangs" after playing the first two tracks. That is, it will play the first two tracks fine, then appear to play the first two seconds of the second track again and stop. I am also unable to eject the CD or quit the program, instead getting the Spinning Beach Ball of Death, so I must force-quit the program, after which I am able to eject the CD.
I have repaired the disk permissions and verified the disk with no problem in both cases. I have also shut down and restarted a few times between tests, but to no avail. I hope this issue is not an indication of a physical problem with my drive. (I have not tried running Disk Warrior yet, but that may be my next step.) Also, this problem occurred both before and after I upgraded to 10.4.11 so it seems to be unrelated to this OS upgrade, but it may be related to my upgrading to iTunes 7.5. Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Yep, that did the trick. Many thanks! In fact, after unchecking Error Correction and successfully playing a CD all the way through, I even rechecked EC and immediately tried playing the same CD, with the same problematic "Track 2 Hanging" result.
Odd that this should be the solution, though. It begs the question as to whether or not EC should ever be checked. I realize that this feature is for importing and not for playing tracks, but it seems tedious to have to remember to check EC when importing and then uncheck it for playing. I guess I'm asking whether or not EC is effective enough to warrant the inconvenience of having to uncheck and recheck and uncheck, etc. Any thoughts on that?

  • ITunes keep on freezing after playing a podcast

    Hi,
I recently downloaded the latest version of iTunes 64-bit (10.2.1.1) and after installing it the application stops working after playing a podcast video. The application stops responding and the only way to make it work again is to shut it down using Task Manager and relaunch the application.
It happens when I play a podcast video and it only happens if iTunes reach the end of the video. If I interrupt the video while it's playing (e.g. choose another podcast or close the video) the application doesn't crash.
I hope you can help me with this problem. I don't want to keep on opening Task Manager just to kill iTunes.

it seems that the iTunes worked properly on the other user account..
but why can't it work on my primary account??

  • Itunes freezes before playing songs

So when I startup itunes and attempt to play the first song, there is about a 5 second pause in which itunes freezes and all I can do is wait, then the song starts. It only happens for the first song I play after opening itunes, any ideas on how to fix this?

Mine does the same thing. I first thought it was a lag from the processor, but i have better specs than the required for itunes 10. I hope this can be fixed soon, it's very annoying.

  • ITunes freezes when playing any kind of video

Up until a little while ago I was able to use iTunes to stream movie trailers, watch video podcasts, and watch movies saved in my library.  For some reason now I am unable to.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Quicktime and iTunes, and I have even tried using older versions of both of these.
I can play videos in Quicktime OK, but not in iTunes.
The moment I hit "play", iTunes freezes.  This happens with ANY kind of video (ie. podcasts, streaming, trailers, local videos, etc.)
Videos I used to once be able to play I cannot.
I have synced some of the videos to my iphone and they play fine on it, so the format is correct.
    Any help would be great.

I had this same problem s a lot of others after updating to the latest I Tunes version. I finally got a decent response back from Apple, which was hard to do. Here is what they told me. Maybe it will help you:

  • Itunes freezes when playing movies or tv, music ok

I downloaded a movie and it wouldn't play at all. The opening starts, but then when you go to select play movie, it freezes.  Then all of itunes freezes and I have to close it with the task manager.  No no video - tv shows, clips, other movies will play.  Always crashes and I have to close with task manager.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, but still the same issue.
    HELP!
PS - Music plays just fine.

After experiencing this probelm for forever and a day with countless minutes of time wasted, I HAVE A SOLUTION! Albeit one I stumbled on by accident.
Before you rename a file, double click the movie to start playing it, then "X" (close) out of the window playing to stop it playing. Then rename the file and it will work instantly.
Don't ask me why this works, it just does....!

  • ITunes freezes after moving library

    Hi all,
After moving my iTunes library to an external HD (I followed the instructions...) threre are some music files (not all) making trouble. I can't play or delete them from iTunes. If I try to, iTunes freezes completely. Removing and re-installing doesn't have any effect so far.
Thanks so much for your help!

I too moved my music libary to an external HD; however, I cannot see any music in iTunes? Suggestions?

  • ITunes freezes when playing video.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Let me start by saying I've seen many others complain about this with mostly no resolution.
To elaborate, when initiating any video in iTunes (be it a movie, TV show, music video, or iTunes Store preview), the application immediately hangs. No errors -- iTunes just stops responding and can only be closed by killing its process. I've tried all the solutions people hash out time and again to no avail. This has been happening since iTunes 10, and ever since I've been playing all its videos through QuickTime (which works perfectly).
In Safe Mode, however, a black box appears briefly (as if the video's about to play), before a Windows "iTunes has stopped responding" prompt comes up. Not only that, but I also get two error logs in Event Viewer:
    Application Error:

I don't know how helpful these logs are, but I've never seen anyone post anything similar when reporting this issue. Microsoft's link in the second one's header tells you to install a "newer" version of iTunes 64-bit even if you have the newest one (and I've done it with no improvement). In one post, iTunes wouldn't play video for somebody until they were told to uninstall Klite Codec Pack. This was the only time I came across this suggestion, and, having Klite, did it too, but with no improvement. iTunes still hangs when trying to play video, it crashes "properly" with a Windows prompt when trying to play video in Safe Mode, and QuickTime works fine (which I guess is my only solution).
Some insight from Apple would be appreciated. This has been happening since iTunes 10, so I consider the problem to be on iTunes' end rather than my system's, which has by and large been a constant the whole time.

Codec packs are notorious for causing iTunes problems.
Try searching c:\windows\SysWOW64 for files with Quicktime in the name.
    There should be just two:
    Quicktime.qts
    QuicktimeVR.qtx
If there are any other files or folders, try dragging them to the desktop ot any temporary folder.
    Does that make any difference.
After doing that, do you have the latest Quicktime installed, if not update it.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Earlier versions of Quicktime can upset iTunes.
