  • ITunes freeze when updating podcasts

I am subscribed to 4 podcasts on my itunes client, however, when one of the four updates, it stops almost instantly and itunes freezes up. I have tried reinstalling/repairing itunes with no luck. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. It started when I was running out of disk space, so I removed a number of my subscriptions and their related podcasts. I now have about 5GBs free out of 40GB drive and 512 RAM on a Sony Vaio. I was going to attempt to eliminate one podcast at a time to see which one might be causing the problem, but I can't stop the automatic updates before it locks up. The reason it locks up I believe is that it ***** up every bit of memory and CPU time I have. It didn't do that when I had a lot more subscriptions, so I don't think that's the problem. The only extraneous thing I've done is load REAL player. Anyone know the name of the settings file that I could either delete or edit manually to stop it from autoupdates until I find the problem?

  • Itunes freezes when updating

every time i try to update songs on my ipod, itunes freezes and i have to restart my computer. i tried reinstalling it, and it didn't help. and all the album artwork is wrong on my ipod. itunes 7.0 ***** really really bad.

I have been having a similar issue with my iPod since December. Whenever I plug the iPod into my computer to update the songs, it freezes after 20, 30, 40 songs or so. But I think I've discovered the source of the problem, at least in my case, so I thought I'd share it in case it helped anyone else.
I got an AirClick remote for the iPod for Christmas, which I use in the car. But for the sake of convenience, I've been leaving the receiver plugged in to the top of the iPod instead of removing it when I'm not using it. And ever since, it's been freezing when I update songs, but I never made the connection until yesterday. When I remove the AirClick receiver before docking the iPod to my computer, it updates as many songs as I would like (even thousands at a time) without freezing.
So if you have any devices plugged in to the top of your iPod, even the headphone remote, I would recommend disconnecting them before connecting the iPod to your computer.
    Hope this helps somebody!

  • Itunes freezing in update

Help, itunes just freezes when updating to the ipod. there seems to be no rhyme or reason. i installed the new itunes, and it thinks it has to update all 6000 songs on the ipod, fine, but it will get to song 59,or song 800, or song 600, and then just stop, keep flashing "itunes is updating your ipod" but not move beyond the same song. this goes on and on. why????

Well man i have the same problem and it's really a pain.
I tried to update with less songs and it works but basically it could stall at any number.
The point is that i want my ipod to be full!
I have a 4th gen ipod. and you?

  • ITunes freezes when updating apps

About half the time I click "Download All Updates" for apps in iTunes it freezes up just before the Apple ID verification window pops up. I have to start task manager in order to terminate iTunes and open it again. I currently have 10.5 and it has been doing this since 10.1 Any idea what might be causing this?

try booting in safe mode with networking and see if itunes works

  • Itunes freezes during update library after 7.3 upgrade

When starting iTunes, it immediately begins to update the library and freezes about half way through. This is after I updated from 7.2 to 7.3. I have a LOT of songs and I'd rather not uninstall iTunes.
Anyone know what's wrong here? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

There have been multiple posts on this topic. If you're interested, try searching the forums. (Maybe someone has a better answer than me). Here's my latest post:
My understanding is that there's a corrupt file in the library that's causing this problem--either a podcast or a video. You can search these forums for other threads on this subject.
From what I've read, you need to figure out which file is causing the hang and remove it (easier said than done).
One thing you can try is to pull all of the podcast and/or video files (you could try one or the other first, too.) out of your iTunes folder before you try to launch iTunes. Leave them on your desktop.
If iTunes launches successfully, then you can slowly try to add these files back to your iTunes folder to find out which one causes the hang.
Not ideal advice, I know. But it may be a way to get iTunes back up and running again.

  • ITunes freezes when updating iPod

I am using a 60 GB iPod video. I recently lost my library in iTunes but I simply added the folder that contained all of my albums back to iTunes and made a few adjustments and it's back to normal. Still, I know the iPod recognizes it as a different library so I wanted to update it.
I go to do this and it gives me the usual "___'s iPod is synced with another library, would you like to delete the current library and replace it with this iTunes library?" or something long those lines so I click "Erase and sync" and it seems like it's updating but iTunes just freezes. It's done this three times including once after a restart.
I'm really becoming frustrated with iTunes as of late so I hope someone has a quick fix for this problem.

    It worked on 4th attempt.

I have just reinstalled vista and itunes due to a failed hard disk.
I imported all my music into itunes and restored my ipod to factory settings. However, when I plug in my ipod (30 gig model), itunes start syncing, but after a minute or so the moving circle next to 'Phil's Ipod' on the left stops moving and itunes appears to have stopped working, although, the Task Manager says it is working.
What is wrong? Pleas help, as I can not stand an empty ipod!

I don't know why it happens, but it happens to me too.
What you should do to get it to work is hold menu and the circle button on your iPod at the same time to reset it, not completely ;D, so it works again. =D

  • Itunes freezes after I plug in my 4.3 updated Iphone.

I updated itunes to the most recent version and then updated my iphone4 to version 4.3. Everything seemed to have finished and worked ok until I went to try and sync my iphone again. I open itunes and it works fine but as soon as I plug in my iphone itunes frezes and my iphone never shows up. As soon as I unplug the phone itunes works fine again. Same with the iphone, as soon as its not connected everything works fine but when I connect it itunes freezes and in task manager it says that itunes is not responding. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you,

Here is the actual solution.  This was making me crazy too.
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes (8.0.2)
Plug your USB cable into your computer.
Turn your iPhone off by holding the power button down until you see “slide to power off”. Do as instructed.
Now press and hold the Home button while reconnecting the USB cable to your iPhone. After iPhone is connected it should power on the device.
Continue holding the Home button, you will see the Apple logo appear and then finally a “Connect to iTunes” will be displayed, now is the time to release the Home button. You will then see the following image:
After this DO NOT RESTORE YOUR DEVICE!!
Unplug your device and turn it off holding the power button only.
Now start your device again, it will start up like normal.
Now plug it back into your computer.
Itunes should see it as normal and not freeze anymore.
    Good Luck!

  • Windows recognizes iPod, but not iTunes or iPod updater, causes freezing

I'm having some issues with my 60GB iPod Photo. I tried to store my friend's music on my iPod as files. Upon uploading them to my own computer, some files caused freezing, requiring me to disconnect and reconnect the iPod. I finally gave up and deleted all the files stored on my iPod. All of a sudden, although Windows XP Pro recognized that an iPod was plugged in, it would no longer open iTunes automatically. When opening iTunes once the iPod was plugged in, it would cause iTunes to freeze.
I decided to restore my iPod. About halfway through, there was an error message saying my iPod could not be restored. All songs were deleted but my iPod was still not recognized. Now, the iPod updater does not recognize that in iPod is connected, even though Windows does. The updater freezes, inhibiting me from completing my restore. iTunes freezes as well when my iPod is plugged in. My iPod displays "update in progress - do not disconnect," but nothing happens. When my iPod is not connected to the computer, I can navigate through it normally, although it does need to be unfrozen when left unused for a couple of days. I cannot tell if it plays files because they were all removed during my unsuccessful restore.
I have tried reinstalling all my iPod related software and I have tried my iPod on more than one computer with different USB cables, but nothing works.
    Help, please!

This is exactly the same problem that I am having I have posted on 14th March on itunes forum. I wish you luck I wait with interest to see what someone says. My ipod was working like a dream until i downloaded the update

  • After updating to iTunes 10.5, iTunes freezes while syncing and doesn't recognize a cd in the cd drive

I have a 160gb iPod Classic that is about 3 years old.  I just added new music to iTunes 2 days ago and synced my iPod.  Today, when I opened iTunes, it asked for the update to 10.5.  I allowed the update, added some more music to my library and synced iTunes with my iPod again.  When the sync was done and I ejected my iPod, it appeared that all of my music, videos, podcasts and photos were erased from iPod.  When I try to sync it again, iTunes freezes about 10 miniutes into syncing and then only about 300 songs appear on the iPod.  I tried to restore the iPod which has led to more difficulties.  Also, I noticed when I attempted to add music to my music library, iTunes no longer recognizes that there is a disc in the CD drive.  I am running Windows 7, 64 bit and there seems to be alot of problems in the community after the iTunes 10.5 update.  I have also been getting unknown error messages followed by the codes (-48), (-50), (-120), and (-53).  Does anyone have any answers??? Help Please.... I have a library of 13,144 songs and I want them back on my iPod.

Since updating to iTunes 10.5 I am unable to view the iTunes Store - using Windows XP; Have the minimum system requirements changed for 10.5? What has changed? The Sync in 10.5 also seems to be slower than previously. What exactly does 10.5 deliver, to Users?
To make matters worse, in iPhone OS.5 it is not possible to purchase a Series (for instance) unless there is sufficient space to download direct to the Phone; Previously you could confirm the purchase on your iPhone and then use iTunes 'Check for Available Downloads' to download. This was the only available work-around to a dysfunctional online Store. Nice one Apple - you have successfully prevented me from making purchases (of any size) from your store; Why was this change necessary and how is it desirable?
NB: it should not be necessary (nor is it desirable) to uninstall anti-virus software to acommodate iTunes; although you may need to modify its configuration (confirming the Store connection is 'safe') during or after install

With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
