ITunes freezes computer partially

When I go into the iTunes store and look for videos, when I start scrolling the page everything just stops, well except for the mouse. The volume up/down buttons still work as well as brightness control, the mouse cursor moves but a bit of the time it just appears as the infamous beach ball. I had to turn the machine off and restart it, when I got back into iTunes looking for a video to watch it froze up on me. Guess I'll have no new movie to watch tonight.

I am having the same exact issue with my new 4S....hoping someone can help!!

  • HELP!!! No one answers my posts. Itunes freezes computer

My itunes has suddenly decided not to let me import anymore. I have tried multiple CD's. It will start importing, get through one or two songs and freeze up the whole computer so I have to cold start it. It does this when i load songs to my folders through Media Player and try to import them from my hard drive as well.
I have been able to play all the CD's through Windows Media Player just fine. I have unloaded and reloaded itunes. My quick time is up to date. I have turned off all firewalls in an effort to correct the issue.
Thanks to suggestions from Apple I have tried logging on as a different user, same problem. I have also tried turning off all other processes through msconfig, restarting and am still having the same problem.I am at a dead end. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am not at all sure I can help with this, but could you just clarify something.
Does the problem occur while you are ripping a CD using iTunes i.e. importing from a CD?
Or does it occur when you are adding tracks to your library that have already been saved on your computer with Windows Media player? What method are you using to add files to your library? Describe exactly what you do. Is it just when you try to add several songs at a time or does it ahppen even if you add a single song.
Is the computer completly unresponsive so that you can't even bring up the Task Manager with ctrl alt del?
Does your computer behave abnoramlly with any other software?
AFter you restart your PC, could you look in the error log to see if there is any error reported associated with iTunes.
Control Panel>>Administrative Tools>>Event viewer. Look in Application.
In the meantime could you check something which is a real long shot.
Right click on My Computer. Select Properties>>Advanced>>Performance-settings>>Advanced.
In the box headed Memoray usage, "Adjust for best performance" should be set to "programs" not "system cache".
As "Programs" is the default, it is unlikely to be wrong, but strange things can happen if it is.

  • ITunes freezes computer when starting to run first time

iTunes 7.0.x was working fine on my new Windows Vista computer. When I started it up today I got an message to upgrade to 7.1. I installed it and when running it it freezes my computer 3/4 of the "updating library" process. The whole computer slows down tremendously and then the screen turns black with just an arrow showing. I uninstalled and reinstalled and the same problem keeps happening. For a version which was supposed to correct Vista problems, it has broken something which was running fine before

    Hey
iTunes currently does not support Vista. This article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305042 will give you more detailed information about Vista compatability and will be updated when Vista and iTunes are compatible.

  • Itunes Freezes Computer When Downloading Video To Ipod

Last week I purchased a brand-new 30 gigabyte video Ipod. It will download music from itunes but not video. I purchased two video programs through the itunes music store, but time I try downloading them to my ipod, the itunes program will download some of the video, but during this process will freeze and lock up my computer. In fact, I can't even do a cont-alt-delete to unlock itunes; I have to actually hard shut down my computer (ouch!). My computer is a Dell Dimension 4300 with Windowns XP (service pack 2), the Video card is NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX 400, and has DirectX9. I'm using the USB-2 port, reinstalled the USB-2 drivers, reinstalled itunes and Quicktime several times, but are still experiencing the same problems. Please Help! Does anyone know what might be wrong?
Dell Dimension 4300   Windows XP   Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2, 256 MB Memory, NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX400 graphics card,

    hiya!
I purchased two video programs through the itunes music store, but time I try downloading them to my ipod, the itunes program will download some of the video, but during this process will freeze and lock up my computer.
hmmmm. if a file in your music library is corrupted, it can cause a connection problem with an ipod.
usually, that causes this error message:
iTunes displays a -69 error when syncing iPod
    ... or occasionally this one:
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod
... but on very rare occasions, i've seen it cause the entire PC (not just itunes) to lock up, like you're describing. (this would be the first occasion in which i've seen it happen with a video file, though.)
so let's quickly check on whether it's those files (or a more general problem) that is causing the issue here.
are the files playing perfectly fine in your itunes at the moment? (no skips or bumps or odd behavior there?)
do other video files transfer to the ipod without any problems? this document might be helpful when it comes to checking on that:
Verifying iTunes video conversion and iPod video syncing using sample QuickTime files

  • Itunes freezing computer

My Macbook is having trouble opening and loading itunes.  After clicking on itunes, it bounces for about a minute before opening and then once opened it loads extremely slow and often the rainbow wheel appears and freezes my computer.  It has never done this before and now it does it everytime I try and open itunes.  I have double checked and all the software is up to date.  Anyone know why this might be happening, or ideas to fix it? Thanks

I was having this problem as well, i originally thought it was my new Logitech Z-4 Subwoofer and was kind of annoyed that it fried my HDD.. The best fix for this problem is uninstalling anything to do with Apple and continue on with your life.

  • ITunes Freezes Computer HELP!

Hey Guys I have been having this problem for awhile now. I got my computer back in October and I never had this issue til later in the year. My computer totally freezes majority of the time when I use iTunes. I have tried running no other programs but iTunes and it still freezes randomly. The only major issue I have with this is that I cannot listen to my music since I can't use iTunes without it freezing. After it freezes my computer follows the same pattern every time. I have to wait like 10 Minutes after I shut the computer off manually to turn it back on. If I try turning it back on before the 10 minutes is up the computer sits at the windows loading screen and does not stop. If I wait 10 minutes as I said the computer starts normally and I have no issues til I open up iTunes and try to play a song. I thought maybe it was my sound card, but I can use any other media player and I have no issues. My friend has the same problem on a computer he built last summer. We have totally different computers so it is definately not hardware. I just want to know if there is anyone else who has this problem and knows how to fix the freezing. It gets really irratating when I go to listen to my favorite tune while I surf the net or play a game and the computer freezes and will not turn back on for 10 minutes. I have tried reformatting and I could listen to iTunes again, but after a couple of days it goes back to doing the same thing. Help would most definately be appreciated!

If you plug your ipod into your computer after deleting songs on your computer then it will automatically update and delete all the songs on your ipod that aren't on your computer. You can turn this option off my plugging your ipod into the computer before you delete the songs and go into the ipod options. Turn off the auto update option and you should be good to go. You can also try using a progrma called ephpod that takes all your songs on your ipod and puts them on your computer without destroying the songs on the ipod if they are not on the computer. Hope this solves your problem.

  • ITunes freezes computer

    A few details:
I recently updated to iTunes 9.2.1 (apparently fixes bugs)
Under the "Music" tab, it all seems to function normally, can play a song, can even pause it
Its not until i change tabs/sections to eg Recently Added where there is a system wide freeze
If music is playing before the freeze it will continue to play in the background as if there is no freeze
Nothing seems to respond except to mouse before changing to the "spinning beach ball of death", by which the only option is to power down the computer via the power button
It would be nice to have a resolution for a clearly annoying bug
    Thanks

  • Itunes won't start clicking to open itunes freezes computer

My problem started with the latest version of itunes (11.3 for windows 64 bit). I am running windows 7. The update froze my computer so I uninstalled itunes and downloaded 11.3. It wouldn't complete so i uninstalled again and it took a long time but completed. I clicked on the icon to start and nothing happened EXCEPT it froze my computer! Came to this forum and tried all the fixes (ironically, the fix by apple for this problem want you to start itunes in safe mode.  Hello, it won't start at all (following all procedures) . I have tried everything including deleting all apple out of regedit.  I have tried everything I could find including running 3 different virus programs to see if I have a virus. No virus. Brand new Quicktime. Uninstalled Bonjour. Can someone please help?  Thanks.

I'm replying to my own fix here in case someone else wants to try an easy fix: I uninstalled every mention of apple and itunes from my computer. Installed a previous version (itunes 10.7) for 64 bit. Deleted library.itl since there was nothing in it and it works! after 15 hours of trying all of the suggested fixes, the new install took about 10 minutes.I guess windows 7 just hates itunes 11.3 (or vice versa!) Anyway, i'm happy now.

  • ITunes freezes computer upon opening

I've tried reinstalling, deleting genius files, etc...but now whenever I open iTunes it freezes my entire macbook to the point that pressing command option escape doesn't even do anything. Help!

Okay, I am confused.  I dont seem to have preference files to iTunes.  I am using 10.6.1, OSX10.7.4, on a mid 2010 13" MBP.  I have a 4S that syncs wirelessly, and I am using iTunes Match...  Help!!  It worked for weeks and then all of a sudden wont open (locks up the system).  I can force quit, however...  anyone who can help, I would be appreciative.  Thanks!

  • Itunes freeze computer

whan my iphone connect to my computer whan i go to see my stuffe the itunes and my computer stop working.

I'm having the exact same problem... any track with total silence causes CPU to spike and the system to become unusable until the silence ends. This happens on a variety of different Windows PCs with different audio hardware. I essentially have to identify these tracks when I find them and prevent them from being played in shuffle mode to avoid random PC lockups when I'm trying to get work done.
Problem only started happening in iTunes 7.

  • Itunes freezes when ipod is connected to computer

Whenever I try to connect my ipod to my laptop my itunes will freeze up. I try opening my ipod using "my computer" but then that will freeze up as well. I'm trying to restore my ipod to see if that will help, but since my itunes freezes, it can't detect my ipod, therefore I can't restore it.
My ipod is set to where I have to manually put songs on it instead of it syncing automatically (unsure if this has anything to do with the problem?)
My itunes and ipod work perfectly by themselves, and I haven't had a problem with connecting my ipod to the computer until now. I can't figure out how to fix the problem. Help!
(I've also plugged my ipod into every usb port on the computer and it doesn't make a difference).

    so does mine

  • ITunes Freezes when connecting iphone 4 or ipad to my Vista computer

Everything had been working just fine on my Vista PC up until the new Itunes update was installed. Now, whenever connecting either of my devices, an iPhone 4 or my iPad 64GB 3G, the device appears on the left column in iTunes, but nothing updates, and not only does iTunes freeze, but the entire computer becomes largely unresponsive. (I can move the pointer, but that's about it.) Task manager cannot be activated by Ctrl-Alt-Del, and I need to do a hard shutdown of the computer.
I have tried disabling and (briefly) uninstalled my antivirus and firewall software, subsequent to scanning for viruses and malware (McAfee). I tried removing the library files, in case some aspects of the library became corrupted. I have also examined the support forums and tried some suggestions, but the problem remains.
The only recent change to my computer has been the iTunes update (unless Windows Vista updated in the background, not sure...)
iTunes itself seems to work just fine, so long as I don't attempt to connect a device to it.
    Help! Thanks in advance everyone...

Thanks, but this had no impact on the problem. And the "repair" feature didn't seem to do anything.
Would appreciate knowledgeable of the extent of this problem chiming in too - would love to hear if there are any workarounds.
Is there an easy way to get older versions of itunes? I'd like to try removing and reinstalling one of the older iterations of itunes that actually works.
