Itunes Freezes Computer When Downloading Video To Ipod

Last week I purchased a brand-new 30 gigabyte video Ipod. It will download music from itunes but not video. I purchased two video programs through the itunes music store, but time I try downloading them to my ipod, the itunes program will download some of the video, but during this process will freeze and lock up my computer. In fact, I can't even do a cont-alt-delete to unlock itunes; I have to actually hard shut down my computer (ouch!). My computer is a Dell Dimension 4300 with Windowns XP (service pack 2), the Video card is NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX 400, and has DirectX9. I'm using the USB-2 port, reinstalled the USB-2 drivers, reinstalled itunes and Quicktime several times, but are still experiencing the same problems. Please Help! Does anyone know what might be wrong?

hiya!

hmmmm. if a file in your music library is corrupted, it can cause a connection problem with an ipod.
usually, that causes this error message:
iTunes displays a -69 error when syncing iPod
... or occasionally this one:
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod
... but on very rare occasions, i've seen it cause the entire PC (not just itunes) to lock up, like you're describing. (this would be the first occasion in which i've seen it happen with a video file, though.)
so let's quickly check on whether it's those files (or a more general problem) that is causing the issue here.
are the files playing perfectly fine in your itunes at the moment? (no skips or bumps or odd behavior there?)
do other video files transfer to the ipod without any problems? this document might be helpful when it comes to checking on that:

Take a look at this article from the apple support website.

  • ITunes freezes computer when starting to run first time

iTunes 7.0.x was working fine on my new Windows Vista computer. When I started it up today I got an message to upgrade to 7.1. I installed it and when running it it freezes my computer 3/4 of the "updating library" process. The whole computer slows down tremendously and then the screen turns black with just an arrow showing. I uninstalled and reinstalled and the same problem keeps happening. For a version which was supposed to correct Vista problems, it has broken something which was running fine before

    Hey
iTunes currently does not support Vista. This article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305042 will give you more detailed information about Vista compatability and will be updated when Vista and iTunes are compatible.

  • ITunes freeze's when trying to sync my iPod nano (1st gen).

    Hello.
I can't update my iPod, because iTunes freeze's when i try so. I can't restore my iPod, because no button names that is appearing. I can't update it either, so donøt know what to do. I just downloaded the newest version of iTunes, and it didn't help.
I've been thinking about, reinstalling iTunes, but what will happen with all the music then? I've used tons of hours on getting it on my computer, so don't want it to get lost. What will happen with the music if i reinstall?
    Thanks in advance, 0eyvind

The music files should stay right where they are, in the music folder.
Reinstalling iTunes will change stuff in the c:Program Files folder.
That being said, it's always a good idea to have backups in case something goes wrong. You do have backups, right?
Also - before every itunes upgrade, you chould also back up the library ITL file which holds all your playcounts, ratings, etc.
I back mine up on a USB stick, or you could just put it in another folder on your hard drive.

  • ITunes freezes only when iPod is connected to USB

    Hello. Here's a real head-scratcher...
I have an iPod touch (model MA627LL, sw version 2.2.1) that I've used with no problem on this computer for a long time. It had not synced since last April, so I tried this morning, and have been troubleshooting ever since!
    a) Windows Vista ultimate brought up Autoplay when I plug in the Ipod - so I went into Control Panel and told it to stop that.
    b) Plugging in the iPod does NOT make iTunes come up
    c) Open iTunes first (version 8.2.1.6) ad THEN plug in iPod - not only does it not acknowledge the device, but iTunes freezes. If I unplug the iPod, then it unfreezes! This is regardless of what USB pot I use. (Keep in mind this was never a problem before)
    d) I made sure I have the latest Windows updates (gawd I hate Windows--but that's another topic)
    e) I reset the iPod (but not sure if there is a "harsher" reset I should try?
    f) Have rebooted the computer...
    Three notes:
    1) This is an almost-one-year-old high-end laptop from Sager with top-of-line everything.
    2) I use a universal remote with my iPod (has worked fine for about 7 months) -- this stopped working with the iPod some time in the last few days. Interesting coincidence, eh? (BTW -- it's the Harmony remote from Logitech -- an AWESOME product!)
    3) I recently went through heck to get some software running on my computer that requires a dreaded hardware dongle for security which uses the USB. It took MANY tries and good luck to get it to work... so I suspect it maybe screwed up my USB driver? BUT all my other USB stuff still work fine.
    Any suggestions?

You mean a clean install or system restore of Windows Vista?
Wow -- I hope it doesn't take something that extreme...
(And again: gawd I hate Windows!)
Any other suggestions of things to try/look at before resorting to that?
Also -- when I go to Device Manager, there are no issues at all in the USB controllers list -- and in fact my iPod isn't listed there at all. However, in the "Portable Devices" section , my iPod is listed there -- and the properties says that the driver is provided by Microsoft (not Apple) and is dated 6/21/2006 and is version 6.0.6001.18000

  • ITunes freezes (SWOD) when iPOD is connected

Since the latest iTunes upgrade to 7.7.1, iTunes freezes (SWOD) when my iPOD is connected. Worse, if one clicks on iTunes to make it the foreground application, the entire system becomes frozen and only powering off/on with the power button gets the system back (unless one forgets to disconnect the iPOD in which case one is back where one started).
This is an old iPOD that uses a firewire connection. Given how difficult it is completely crash a *nix-based system, I suspect a hardware interrupt is behind this but who knows? Searching the knowledge base and forums hasn't lead to any solution.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • HT203200 How can i solve the -50 error when downloading video from itunes??

How can I solve the -50 error when downloading video from itunes.   The apple support people cannot even figure it out!??

The 2330 error often means some sort of damage to the filing system as might happen if the battery fell out while the disk was in use.
Try running a disk check to see if it finds and fixes any errors.

  • ITunes freezes up when I select movies in my Library. I am using a MacBook Pro and have the latest upgrades on software. Thanks for any advice.

iTunes freezes up when I select movies in my Library. I just downloaded a few new movies and now I cannot scroll to where they are without a freeze up. I have restarted numerous times, and have not opened any other programs while trying to access my list of movies. Any suggestions? Thanks....

Restart your computer and lauch the Activity Monitor application.  That will show you all the programs running on your computer along with how much RAM and CPU time each application is using.  Next, launch iTunes and see how many resources it is taking up.  Is it hogging all the available RAM and/or CPU cycles?  It could be that you don't have enough free RAM or CPU cycles.  If you're running close to 100% before you get to the movies, it could be they are pushing you over the top.  The Activity Monitor application can show you if that's the case.  If so, then try to select Movies and see if your iTunes application starts trying to use up even more resources.  If so, try a RAM upgrade and/or a faster processor.  These are just suggestions, of course, but I hope they help.

  • I have Windows 7 and just recently experienced a problem with itunes freezing up when I clicked on the "apps" tab.  Everything else seems to work okay in itunes.  I have uninstalled it and reloaded it 4 or 5 times, but still freezes up.

I have Windows 7 and just recently experienced a problem with itunes freezing up when I clicked on the "apps" tab which shows the apps that are loaded on my phone.  Everything else in the itunes software seems to be working okay.  The problem is in the part where you sync the newly purchased apps.  The apps will all be blank that are downloaded and that part of the software crashes itunes or freezes up.  I can get out of itunes okay after the freeze up, but it just stops me from syncing anything that I have newly added.  If anyone has had this problem before or knows someone that has, please let me know how I can fix it.  I have uninstalled and reloaded itunes 4 or 5 times, but the problem is still there.  I might add that I have been using itunes and purchasing apps for 2 to 3 years without any problems.  HELP.

You would get better response from the iTunes community forum.
    Have a nice day!

  • ITunes 7 not playing downloaded videos?

I had downloaded Quicktime 7.1.3 and iTunes 7, but my downloaded videos were not playing. I was also getting errors that iTunes was waiting to authorize computer and a gray video window screen. I removed the plug-in QuicktimeComponents from HD/Library/Quicktime folder, restarted iTunes, and all videos played.
    Hope this helps.

    Please install QuickTime.

  • ITunes shuts down when I connect my iPod 30gb

    Can somebody please help me?

A windows error message appears saying iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down.
let's get a crash log from itunes, and send it to the Apple engineers for a look.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
Generate the crash, collect the crash log, and and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing
