ITunes freezes every time

everytime I open iTunes, the program freezes, i have all the latest updates of iTunes and quicktime. Anyone else have this problem?

Since updating to Itunes 7 I have had the same problem with it freezing only when I try to convert library audiobooks to ipod files. I get as far as joining the the tracks then on to the information for the artist and album name. I hit ok and the entire page freezes. I end the itunes tast via control alt delete and I cannot enter itunes again it acts as if the program does not exist and I have to reboot my computer. The next time I go in I am able to proceed and import the consolidated tracks but this happens everytime. Is it possible to go back and get another version of itunes so this will not happen all the time. I have an ipod classic and have been using library books like this for sometime without the freezups. It appears from all the post that the ipod software is having many problems and with the proliferation of so many version upgrades this is not being solved. Thanks for you help.

  • ITunes freezes every time I click on "movies"

I was hoping that 8.1.1 was going to fix my issue, but iTunes still freezes every time I try to watch a movie. I click on "movies" in the Library list, the thumbnails of my movies come up, and then it freezes (spinning pinwheel, Activity Monitor shows all read, and I am forced to "Force Quit").
I have experienced this since the last version of iTunes. I can't even drag them onto my iPod to watch them. Help please.

I was able to fix this freezing in movies issue by going to file-add to library then selecting all my movies from the movies folder inside iTunes Music folder and letting iTunes 'add them' It took some time to complete (maybe 20 minutes) but it is working well now and not freezing.

  • ITunes freezes every time it opens

I'm at a loss... I don't know what else to do so hopefully someone has an answer. A few weeks ago I opened iTunes to play a song, and it stopped responding. I tried to force quit, and iTunes closed, but the program said it was still open in the dock. I tried to restart my computer, but it wouldn't work. After using activity monitor, force quitting, everything I knew, I had to hard restart.
I opened iTunes again. Same problem. Had to hard restart. I heard of some issues accessing files on external drives... so, I deleted iTunes, moved my 350 gig iTunes library to a different drive, repaired permissions, redownloaded iTunes, and tried again. Same problem. I can't use iTunes. Every time I try to open it, it stops responding and the only way to restart my computer is holding down the power button.
I've been without my music for two weeks now and I'm going crazy. What else can I do??

    try these user tips:
try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.
and, if you have flip4mac installed
I found that the TSLicense plugin was causing the problem.
    From the log:
    PlugIn Path: /Library/Frameworks/TSLicense.framework/Versions/A/TSLicense
    PlugIn Identifier: net.telestream.license
This pIugin is installed with the Flip4Mac Windows Media Components. I solved the problem by uninstalling the WM Components via the uninstaller at /Applications/Flip4Mac/Flip4Mac WMV Uninstaller.pkg, after which iTunes opens successfully.

  • ITunes freezes every time I open after upgrading to 9.1.1

So every time I open iTunes now (after I upgraded to 9.1.1) it starts updating my iTunes library. Problem is that it gets to a certain point in the updating (maybe 5%) and then it freezes the whole computer. I've never had any problems with iTunes before, and it worked just fine with 9.1 on here before. Once the computer freezes I cant even get to the task manager I have to force shut down my computer every time. Once I restart it is perfectly fine as long as I dont try and open iTunes. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling...no dice same problem.
    Any ideas?

Same here. Here's what I've done so far to attempt to fix the problem:
    1) re-installed iTunes Setup (probably 4 or 5 times at this point).
    2) Uninstalled, Windows 7 and reverted to Vista (in the process lost my Windows activation passcode)
    3) Purchased a replacement passcode for Win.7 and re-installed. I think it cost me $115 (note: I'm married and unemployed, so adjusted price in proportion to my entire income is more like $1,000 when employed at previous income level)
    4) Ran several dozen different boot-up troubleshooting tips, including Windows error detection and repair and registry troubleshooting.
    5) Downloaded two FREE "alternatives" to iTunes
    6) Eventually upgraded both FREE services to full-activation in hopes that the extra features aquired would somehow fix the problem and allow me to sync my iPod with non-iTunes services(which was not the case).
    7) re-installed anti-Virus software and scanned (nothing still)
    8) installed new anti-virus software and scanned entire system again
    9) Purchased new anti-virus software (nope)
    10) reset iPod to default settings / wiped memory
    11) Used Safari to again attempt to download iTunes with no luck.
    12) Logged into another computer and tried to export/import entire library
    13) Probably a few more things I can't think of.
A lot of this is probably stupid to do (I'm an amatuer, but am still more proficient with computers than most people). Regardless--Apple should fix the issue causing the problem AND notify users of progess or other strategies. I have a moderate sized library all backed up to external sources, but this won't help until something is done and I can use iTunes as a media player--or some other company releases a compatible problem.
I've probably sunk $5-10,000 over several years of loyal patronage to Apple, but am nothing short of ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGED by these circumstances.

    Get a mac...
Okay, I looked around a bit, and apple dosen't seem to have a solution.  Here is a different article on the subject.  Hope this helps.

  • ITunes freezes every time iPhone (2.0 software) is connected!

I just recently updated iTunes to 7.7 and then updated my original iPhone to 2.0 software. Since the update to 2.0, iTunes on my laptop (Windows Vista) keeps freezing and "not responding". iTunes appears to work okay when the phone is not connected.
I performed the diagnostics through iTunes and everything passed except the iPhone/iTunes sync test (failed). I cannot find any information on how to fix this problem. I have reinstalled iTunes several times in hopes that the problem would be fixed, but to no avail. Please help!
Note: iPhone/iTunes sync works fine on my desktop with XP Prof even after the update.
    Thank you!
    JulNMac
    Current configuration:
    Original iPhone - 2.0 update
    iTunes - 7.7 update

I have the same problem. Itunes freezes whenever I plug my iPhone 3g in. I can plug the iPhone into anybody else's itunes, and it's fine, but not my one. Under diagnostics, I get a Sync error (with no details of course, thanks Apple), and Windows can see it as a camera as ususal.
Deleting the iTunes library clears it up, but it's a pain, and you have to reconstruct your library, transfer your purchases over etc. It's now frozen twice, and I'm rebuilding my library for the third time. Very frustrating. I hope Apple fixes this issue with the next Itunes update.

  • ITunes freezes every time I insert a cd

I'm so frustrated.  Everytime I insert a cd to copy to iTunes, it (iTunes) completely freezes.  I have to restart the computer and leave the disk IN the drive during the restart.  I can copy the cd after I do that, but if the computer is already running (whether I have iTunes open or not) iTunes freezes and I can't even end the process from the task bar.  I HAVE to restart the computer.  I'm trying to download my Harry Potter audio books for my son and there are at least 7 cds PER book (13 or 14 for the last book) and it's taking forever to get them downloaded because of the restarting.  I have the most recent version of iTunes (I even had it check for updates and it found none) and am running on Windows 7.  What is going on??????

I had the same problem, I realised it was my proxy server blocking itunes from going away and getting the track information. I unchecked *Itunes>preferences>general>automatically retrieve cd track names from the internet* and it stopped it crashing.

  • My iTunes freezes every time I plug my iPod in to update it.

Everytime that I plug in my iPod to update it, iTunes freezes and nothing is transferred onto my iPod. But as soon as I unplug my iPod from the computer, iTunes immediately unfreezes and goes back to normal. What's going on?

Did you get your ipod working? I am having the same issue. Keeps telling me I need to format but it does not work.
    Thanks

  • ITunes freezes every time i open it

shortly after upgrading to 7.3, i started itunes and it froze while playing a song. I force quit. i opened it again and it automatically went into the same playlist it was in before and froze before i could do anything (pinwheel of death). i even deleted itunes, reinstalled 7.2 and tried again. still froze. deleted, reinstalled 7.3. still froze.
Right now i cannot use itunes at all because it doesn't work. i don't know what to do.

I have the latest iTunes version 4.2.3 (I believe) and it has worked fine. Last night I had trouble in that it quit downloading several times and I restarted it. It finally finished downloading and the quit. I statrted it again and the it said that it was adjusting the volume for 1 of 8 files. It died here and has not been able to work again.
I have downloaded QT and iTunes twice, deleted the directories and have reinstalled. ITunes starts and then stops responding. I have to force it to close with Windows Task Manager.
I am at a loss as to how to correct this. I see in the threads that there are many with the same problem, but I have seen no solutions. I would sincerely appreciate any help that can offered.

  • ITunes freezes every time I try to connect my iTouch.

I just got a new iMac OS 10.7.2. I have 2 ipods, a nano and a touch. I can connect my nano to iTunes without any problems but when I plug in the touch, iTunes will freeze. I have noticed that my touch does not appear on my desktop. It will appear in iTunes but as soon as it does, the program freezes. I have tried connecting the touch then opening iTunes but that doesn't seem to make a difference. I can't find any settings in iTunes or on my touch that seem like they would fix this problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

  • I Just upgraded to the lastest iTunes version, why does my iTunes freeze every time I connect my iPod but yet it still plays music?

I've never had this problem before but since I've updated my iTunes, it freezes as soon as my iPod gets connected. Ever more strange, the music plays in the background but yet iTunes is frozen. Any help?

It appears that my iTunes is recignizing my iPod as an iPhone for some reason...could that be the problem?

  • My iPod touch won't sync, update anything & my iTunes freezes every time its connected

    Evening,
I went to upgrade my iTouch after finding I couldn't get an app because I didn't have the latest software. When I connected it at first it said my iTouch was unresponsive. This happened a few times till I I read online to restart my iPod and everything. So I did that and checked that I had the latest iTunes and it finally sync'd. Now it has been saying verifying iPod touch for an hour and iTunes has frozen.
Very frustrating because there is so much information but none of it is working for me.
    Thank you v much.
