ITunes freezes mid sync

I have Windows Vista and the iPhone 3g. I updated to iTunes 10.1.2 yesterday after it had been installed I tried to sync my iTunes to my iPhone, but the everytime I try to do this it stops mid sync. It starts normal and throughout the whole process my phone says that it is syncing but during step 3/5 it freezes in the same spot and won't finish the sync. I have to unplug my phone and close out iTunes. I'm getting super frusterated so if anyone has any idea what's going on please let me know.
I also ran a diagnostics sync test and it came back normal so I'm assuming this isn't a syncing issue as much as it is an iTunes issue.

Can you see what step 3 exactly is? If you watch closely, iTunes mentions the steps underneath the progress bar.
My steps are 1st backup, 2nd contacts, calendars, bookmarks, notes, 3rd apps from and to the computer, 4th was too fast, couldn't read what it said, and finally photos as step 5.
So, there must be something going wrong during the app sync. Did you check your restrictions on the phone, to make sure installing apps or removing them is not restricted?
Did you check your security software settings? iTunes may need to contact Apple during the sync process as well. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125

  • Itunes freezes when syncing ipod classic 160GB

I just downloaded the new itunes 1.6.1 and everytime i try to sync my ipod classic it gets about a tenth of the way through syncing the songs then completely freezes, i have to exit using task manager and it leaves me with no songs on my ipod. I've tried resetting my ipod and such but none of it has worked, i've spent the last 3 hours looking for a solution but there is nothing out there, please help!!!

Try connecting the iPod Classic to a different USB port set (like the ones on the back of your PC), and make sure you're connecting it directly to the PC, not through a USB hub (like the ones built into keyboards or monitors).  If iTunes still freezes, run Windows Update and make sure you update all of the hardware drivers for your PC, especially ones marked "Chipset" or "USB Controller".  Frequently, when iTunes freezes mid-sync with a USB device, it's because of an error with your USB controller or that set of ports.  The steps above should get you syncing properly again.
If that doesn't work, try connecting your iPod Classic to another PC and sync some songs to it.  If iTunes freezes there as well, it may be a problem with your iPod Classic (unlikely, but possible), and would warrant a Genius Bar appointment.
    Hope this helps.

  • I had an iPod Classic 5th Gen that I upgraded from 30gb to 80gb.  The problem I'm having is that it will not more than about 5.4gb worth of songs.  The iPod begins to freeze mid sync and the (-69) error message haults the sync.

I had an iPod Classic 5th Gen that I upgraded from 30gb to 80gb.  The problem I'm having is that it will not sync more than about 5.4gb worth of songs.  The iPod begins to freeze mid sync and the (-69) error message haults the sync process.  The hard drive has been upgraded, it has a new logicboard (with 128mb RAM), new housing, battery, hold / headphone jack.  Basically the only original parts are the bezel, click wheel, screen, and data ribbons. Have attempted the 3Rs and have also tried to isolate potentially corrupt audio files and remove them, but this did not seem to be the primary cause.  The sync failure consistently happens at just under a 1000 songs (5.4gb) and then it starts to error (-69) any song after that.  Your advise would be enthusiastically received.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

  • After updating to iTunes 10.5, iTunes freezes while syncing and doesn't recognize a cd in the cd drive

I have a 160gb iPod Classic that is about 3 years old.  I just added new music to iTunes 2 days ago and synced my iPod.  Today, when I opened iTunes, it asked for the update to 10.5.  I allowed the update, added some more music to my library and synced iTunes with my iPod again.  When the sync was done and I ejected my iPod, it appeared that all of my music, videos, podcasts and photos were erased from iPod.  When I try to sync it again, iTunes freezes about 10 miniutes into syncing and then only about 300 songs appear on the iPod.  I tried to restore the iPod which has led to more difficulties.  Also, I noticed when I attempted to add music to my music library, iTunes no longer recognizes that there is a disc in the CD drive.  I am running Windows 7, 64 bit and there seems to be alot of problems in the community after the iTunes 10.5 update.  I have also been getting unknown error messages followed by the codes (-48), (-50), (-120), and (-53).  Does anyone have any answers??? Help Please.... I have a library of 13,144 songs and I want them back on my iPod.

Since updating to iTunes 10.5 I am unable to view the iTunes Store - using Windows XP; Have the minimum system requirements changed for 10.5? What has changed? The Sync in 10.5 also seems to be slower than previously. What exactly does 10.5 deliver, to Users?
To make matters worse, in iPhone OS.5 it is not possible to purchase a Series (for instance) unless there is sufficient space to download direct to the Phone; Previously you could confirm the purchase on your iPhone and then use iTunes 'Check for Available Downloads' to download. This was the only available work-around to a dysfunctional online Store. Nice one Apple - you have successfully prevented me from making purchases (of any size) from your store; Why was this change necessary and how is it desirable?
NB: it should not be necessary (nor is it desirable) to uninstall anti-virus software to acommodate iTunes; although you may need to modify its configuration (confirming the Store connection is 'safe') during or after install

  • ITunes freezes when syncing iPad to a new comp

I recently bought a new computer to replace my old one, and now my iPad 2 won't sync. iTunes just freezes, even though I "authorized" the new computer (which has a different name than my old one).  What measures can I take to sync my iPad to the new computer?  This is driving me a bit crazy, so any advice would be appreciated.  Thank you.  (In case it matters, I'm using the latest version of iTunes on Windows 8).

I've occasionally had my iTUnes freeze, both on my win 8 and my old vista computer. Every time you open iTunes, it reaches out to connect to the iTunes store. You may need to use the task mananger to shut it down or restart your computer if it's frozen at the moment. Then try opening iTunes, let it get up and going, then plug in your iPad. It's possible that it starting up, communicating iwth Apple and trying to communicate with your iPad all at the same time is too much for it and it freezes.
iTunes 11 can be very glitchy when it's in the mood to be. You almost have to baby it by letting it get going before you try to do something else.

  • Itunes freezes when syncing

When i put my ipod on to sync it starts backing up then stops. My ipod says 'sync in progress' but its not syncing properly. Then itunes freezes and wont even open again. please help!!!

If the sync process stops right at step one, iTunes can't read the latest backup in order to replace it with the new one.
You'll have to delete the latest backup in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices to make iTunes create a new backup instead of replacing an old one.

  • ITunes freezes when syncing with iPhone, but works fine with iPod?

It's a bit of a long story with my iPhone/iTunes problem. In late July, my iPhone stopped syncing properly. It's an iPhone 4. Basically, I tried to add more photo albums to sync onto my phone, something I have done before. It began syncing, then notified me that it couldn't sync 'x' amount of photos. It was a pop up on my phone screen. I tried deleting my cache in My Pictures, still errors. Then it seems like everything possible has just glitched when I sync as weeks went on. It wouldn't sync music. The songs would appear gray and failed to play. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it doesn't. Now, iTunes freezes when it reaches the end of the sync and I have to ctrl+alt+del to close iTunes as it stops working.
I took my iPhone to apple, and she ran diagnostics and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. She told me she couldn't run diagnostics on my iTunes because it's a Windows laptop and she's "not trained to work with them". She said everything seemed fine with my iPhone and asked if it was possible if I have a virus. I've had no other problems with my laptop whatsoever and I have a decent virus protector that we pay for monthly.
I have tried restoring my phone twice, with a backup. I tried again WITHOUT a backup, and still, it freezes when it syncs, some songs are gray on my iPhone and won't play, and photos refuse to sync, period.
I then tried syncing my dad's iPod with my iTunes, and it worked. I also tried syncing my iPhone on my dad's laptop, and it worked. So something is clearly glitching between specifically my phone and my iTunes. I'm avoiding uninstalling iTunes at all costs because I don't want to lose play count information as the majority of my playlists are created this way. I thought iOs 7 or iTunes 11 (now 11.1) would fix it, but neither did.
Can anyone determine what the problem could be and how to fix it?

the same thing is happening with me. itunes will freeze and then it wont put songs on my ipod.
im starting to get upset since i just went out and bought a new ipod. thinking that was the problem.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

  • Itunes freezes when syncing 3rd gen shuffle

I have a 3rd generation shuffle. When I plug it into my mac, instead of syncing, I get the "wheel of death" & itunes freezes. The top status bar says - Syncing (Step 1 of 2) Generating VoiceOver messages. I can force quit itunes & eject the shuffle in Finder, but I can't access the device in itunes because the wheel of death won't let me click on it. This is my spouse's shuffle & hasn't been used for about a year, he doesn't know/remember if the VoiceOver is enabled or works or ever even existed on the shuffle. I'm more familiar with my nano ... What can I do??

    never mind, problem solved

I am on Vista trying to sync my ipod touch & iphone fore the past 4 days & each time I connect them to the computer I get to step 2 of 8 Backing up and iTunes freezes.  About 30+ minutes later I sometimes get this error message.

  • ITunes freezes when syncing ipod 10.5.1.42

Everytime I go to sync my ipod to itunes it gets almost finished and itunes freezes up. When itunes freezes so does my entire computer to the point where only the mouse moves, and I end up shutting it down. I'm not sure if it is my computer, ipod, itunes, or other underlying issues. Does anyone have a solution or troubleshooting tips. I have searched the internet all over and this site, but nothing seems to be working. Is it the version? Should I install a previous version of itunes? It seems like some people are having similar issues.

  • Itunes Freeze during sync

    Hi there,
Im operating Windows Vista on a Dell Inspiron e1505 and a 5th generation Ipod 80gb Classic with the latest version of Itunes(9.0.2). I've encountered this problem numerous times and have searched many different locations for an answer. Hopefully someone can provide an answer, or tell me I'm out of luck.
With the amount of music I have I don't have the capacity on my Hard Drive to store it all. Therefore, I choose to manually sync my ipod. However, as I'm syncing, whenever I near 4000 songs on my ipod, Itunes freezes indefinitely, at which point I am forced to disconnect the ipod only to see that all of the music is wiped clean. This occurs during the period where itunes is "determining gapless playback information" of the songs I have just chosen to sync. This occurs whether I have chosen to sync 1 song at a time or 250 songs. The deciding factor is the nearing of 4000 songs.
I've looked around and from what I can determine the answer may lie in the fact that not enough of the "computer's power" is directed to the syncing process; too many background applications perhaps. I've tried turning off anything unnecessary and I run with minimal programs.
Thanks in advance for any help, I'll be happy to try to answer any questions.

That sounds like it might be a library file issue with your iTunes.
If you recreate your iTunes library, are you able to get past the 4000 song barrier when you sync?

  • ITunes freezing during sync, "Delayed Write Failed"

I've been having a really annoying issue with my iPod Classic 160GB for about two months now. Whenever I try to sync my iPod with my iTunes library, iTunes suddenly freezes completely during the sync. The problem usually appears when the sync is at around 30GB out of 40GB, but it can also appear at other points during the sync.
Sometimes, when iTunes freezes, an error message appears in the right corner of my screen saying, and I'll do my best to translate it from Norwegian:
    "Delayed Write/writing failed"
"Windows was unable to save all the data for the file G:\iPodControlArtworkF10281.ithmb. The data was lost. This error may be caused by a failure on your hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file somewhere else"
The freeze leaves me with no choice but to plug my iPod out of the computer when it says on the iPod screen that I'm not supposed to, and this probably isn't good for it.
When I plug my iPod back in, the files that should have been synced up until the delayed write error appeared and iTunes froze and that should have been audio and blue, has turned into orange and "other" on the main iPod page in iTunes.
I've tried everything from the 5 Rs to even calling iPod support where they told me that this was an Apple software issue, and that it had nothing to do with either my iPod or computer. They also told me that I could solve the issue by rolling back to iTunes 7,7 until an update to solve the issue was available. I tried this, and the same problem appeared. I tried to roll back to iTunes 7,6 as well, but no luck there either.
Now I'm getting sort of worried that my one year warranty will expire and I'll be stuck with an iPod that has a software with a really annoying problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I am having the EXACT same problem trying to sync my new 80GB Classic with itunes on a Macbook.
I restored and updated to latest ipod firmware. No change.
I updated iTunes to 8.0. No change.
I updated OS X to 10.5.5. No change.
Oddly enough, iTunes freezes to the point where it must be force quit. But it will not quit even then. I have to restart just to get back to a point where itunes will open again.

  • Apple TV disappearing from iTunes in mid-sync (completely repeatable)

Just in the past week, my Apple TV and iTunes aren't talking very well anymore.
When I start up iTunes, it finds the AppleTV and tries to sync the latest TV show episodes I bought. It gets about 1 and a half episodes in to the sync, then suddenly the AppleTV disappears out of my iTunes and the sync stops.
If I try to view the TV episodes on the Apple TV, it says "The selected video could not be played. The format was not recognized." (clearly, it really did stop in mid-sync).
If I restart iTunes, it still doesn't find Apple TV. I have to reboot my MacBook Pro, then start iTunes again. Then it finds the AppleTV and syncs for about 5 minutes again, then quits...
Completely repeatable and very frustrating. Nothing (movies, music, TV shows) can sync properly if it takes more than 5 minutes to sync. No other issues (can watch trailers and YouTube just fine from AppleTV, nothing else stops working on MacBook).
    All software is completely up to date at the latest version;
    Any suggestions?

Thanks for you help and suggestions. Unfortunately, I tried all that a couple times ...
    - tried "Change iTunes Library" from the source menu and entered new passcode (it appeared in itunes for one minute, then dissapeared again) - tried that quite a few times
    - tried changing the name of my aTV
    - tried ethernet instead of wireless
    - did a factory restore (thinking maybe it was the youtube update)
    - started it all from scratch (like i just bought the thing)
It only occurred to me, after reading Ramiro's post, that these issues appeared after the 7.3.2 update; i was smooth sailing beforehand.
keep in mind that i'm a little paranoid when it comes to installing software so i always "fsck -fy" and fix permissions before and after.
After smacking my head a few times, I rolled back to 7.2 and everything works like it used to.
The only thing I'm certain about is that I'm gonna check this forum before I update to 7.3.3. What a headache that was.
