ITunes freezes MY ENTIRE MAC

This just started happening a while ago and it didn't bother me much until I had just lost a bunch of data due to this problem
Basically, everytime I play a song in iTunes, it might seem to go well after a couple songs, but then at random points that happen very often now, iTunes freezes and I just see the song length stuck at 0:00
The weird part is taht the song actually plays ALL the way through without any problems, but my entire mac is frozen now...
I can only move my mouse, which is useless because the dock, background, iTunes, EVERYTHING is now frozen
The only solution I have is to hold down the power button and do a hard restart
Repairing Disk Permissions doesn't do anything and scanning my Mac says its fine...
So can someone tell me what's wrong?

I think the newest iTunes is a bit buggy. I have those complete system freezes if I start some movies one after another for testing purposes. All goes well unti film 3 or 4 and then the whole MBP stalls. Only help - reboot.
Another thing: every movie or TV show stalls after a certain time for some moments and jumps forward some seconds. After that stall, all runs OK, only some seconds later a short stuttering is noticeable.
I have a very large audio library on a external drive as primary drive. I leave the movies on another external drive w(o copying to the primary drive. So I just think, iTunes is stretched to its limit and has memory problems. The iPod classic 160 had those in the first weeks after its appearance, too. Lots of people with large libraries exchanged their iPods w/o effect. I was patient and now at least that works fine.

  • Itunes freezes on my mac mini?? its okay for the first few minutes then freezes. i just then get the colour wheel and have to 'force close'

hi there, i have major problems with itunes freezing on my mac Mini, its okay for the first minute or two then it freezes and i get the spinning colour wheel and i have to force close.
    can anyone help?

I suspect that you'll have to mount that volume at boot time and not at login time as you're doing now.  If you can arrange that, then the volume should be available to all users.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do a boot-time mount.  I tried searching for "mount drive startup mac" (without the quotes), but most of the results described how to mount a volume at login time.  Ignore any advice that mentions "Login Items".
I did find this discussion, but it's very sketchy.  You also have to be careful that any advice you find applies to the version of OS X that you're using.

  • I know this has been asked multiple times but there still hasn't been an answer: my iTunes 10.2.2 will freeze my entire mac upon opening...

... and it's been doing this for a while. PLEASE, I need a solution. It started off (many moons ago) as occasional freezing when listening to music and then one day it froze and stayed frozen. So I restarted my computer and after that, iTunes was never the same. I deleted the version I had and downloaded the newest version. At first, it took a whole night (and by night I mean 12 hours or so) to put all my music back in iTunes and once that was done it would attempt to determine the gapless playback. After a while the number it would reach before it froze got smaller and smaller until it just stopped trying and froze my whole computer the minute I opened it. I mean, I can't click on ANYTHING once the iTunes icon stops bouncing. iTunes will pop up and then that's it for my computer. I tried leaving it alone for an extended period of time to see if it would unfreeze itself and it doesn't.
PLEASE, I need a solution, as I'm sure many other people do as well. All I see are threads about similar issues with no solution handy. I've repaired disk permissions, I've deleted the little com.apple.iTunes whatever that I was supposed to delete (and it ALMOST helped but didn't really), I've reinstalled and reinstalled, and it gets so frustrating because nothing is working.

Your example uses straight text links.  Nothing fancy, no complicated JavaScripts are used.  Just a lot of manual linking.

Each page contains a different PREVIOUS and NEXT link depending on where it appears within the site.

  • ITunes freezing Macbook

I have my music stored on an external HD. I have no problem copying it over from the external to my Macbook. What's confusing me is when I reopen my iTunes and it starts to analyze for gapless playback information, iTunes freezes my entire computer to the point where I have to do a hard shutdown. I recently reinstalled Mac OSX and had my iPhone replaced. I don't know if that means anything, but I'm just baffled. Thanks in advance.

  • When I try to sync podcasts to my Nano, iTunes freezes

I recently acquired a new 6th Generation Nano. Whenever I try to sync podcasts to it, iTunes freezes up and has to be forcibly stopped from the Task Manager. This doesn't happen if I try to sync the podcasts to another device (I have an iPad and until recently had an earlier model of Nano and neither have any problems). It's fine if I set it to sync podcasts, but if I actually mark off any podcasts to be transferred and then sync, the Nano sort of freezes in that 'Connected' state we usually get and iTunes freezes up entirely at some point while the 'Starting Sync' message is displayed. I don't have any sort of issues opening up the Podcasts folder or anything like that, it's just when I try to send Podcast files specifically to the Nano that I have a problem.
    iTunes version 10.6.0.40
    Desktop PC, Win7 64-bit SP1

Problem solved. Rolling back to iTunes 10.5.3 fixed this and restored normal behavior to the sync process. This would seem to corroborate the idea that this issue is the result of some sort of problem with iTunes 10.6. Here are the steps I took to rollback to the previous version of iTunes:
Download the appropriate version from this page and install (but don't launch iTunes yet). The availability of this installer is time sensitive, of course.
Assuming you have already used iTunes 10.6, there is a file called iTunes Library.itl that iTunes creates and you will need to either delete it (if you don't care about losing your playlists) or replace it with the last version in the "Previous Libraries" folder (assuming you ran iTunes 10.5.3 before this). Just move the last version from the Previous Libraries folder (it will probably have a date in it's name), put it in the same place as the original file and rename it to be iTunes Library.itl. These files are located in /Users/username/Music/iTunes/ (for Mac OS), or \Users\username\My Music\iTunes\ (for Windows 7). More info here fo other Windows OS's.
Once the iTunes Library.itl file is dealt with you should be able to launch iTunes 10.5.3 successfully.
    Worked for me.

Try chatting with an Adobe Support Specialist:

This may take awhile: you may find yourself chatting (via typing) with someone from India, but they are good at solving these kind of problems.

  • My iTunes store freezes my entire computer when I try to use it. How can I sort this out?

When opening my itunes store, my entire computer freezes. In general my itunes works, allowing me to listen to my music still, but as soon as I enter the store my entire laptop freezes and I have to turn my laptop off manually. I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, but this hasn't remedied the problem. Is there anything that can be done in order for me to use my itunes store again?

  • IPod freezes iTunes freezes Mac

Starting two weeks ago, connecting my iPod 30G to my Mac Book Pro, the actualization stops, iTunes freezes. Once doing a force quit, the freezing infects the finder and from there every other programm. I have to force-quit the MBP.
First, I went from automatic to manual, but reaching song 55 or so, same thing. Several times. With photos, without them, switching calender of, just doing a few playlists or some more ...
Then I searched these discussions - some had the same problem it seemed, but back in march and without solution.
Then I talked to the German hotline, two ladies, good ideas, like resetting or - a little overdose - setting up a second user and checking if the songs were corrupted - no change.
I sent in the iPod and got the same device back - resetted, cared for, no fault found, of course.
I reinstalled iTunes 6.0.4, because the problem started with 0.5, i thought. This was today. Failing first, it once put me 140 songs on the iPod, but going further it froze. By now I had about 5 force quits.
    Has somebody an idea?
Mac Book Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Ever find a solution. I'm having the same problem with my 40 gig. It will freeze the whole computer.

  • IPhone connected to Mac, iTunes freezes when selecting PODCASTS tab

So I upgraded to iTunes 11.1 and iOS7 (running OSX 10.8.5) and my podcasts and smart playlists did not sync. (I do not use the Podcats app because I have so many podcast-related folders and smart-folders.) Every time I click on the PODCASTS tab when the iPhone 5 is connected iTunes freezes and I have to Force Quit the app.
I've fixed permissions, run Disk Utility, restarted... nothing helps. This seems to specifically be an iTunes problem.

So I just spent an hour restoring my iPhone, then restoring from backup (40Gb filled in a 64Gn iPhone takes a while). Very interestingly, I watched all my podcasts get copied into my iPhone but they are not accessible from the Music app, nor are they found when doing a Spotlight search!
I downloaded Apple's Podcast app and they seemed to appear there (couldn't tell for sure, app is confusing and it was accessing Wifi so I diodn't know what it saw, or if it was fetching files). But of course that app has no smart folders and accessing new podcasts and podcasts based on time-length is impossible.
Oh yes, after the restore I tried clicking on the Podcasts tab and iTunes froze up again....

  • When I connect my iPod Classic 160GB to my Mac iTunes freezes. iTunes 10.3.1

Ever since the newest update from iTunes came out every time I connect my 160GB iPod Classic, iTunes freezes and I have to force quit. What can I do for this?

My I-pod froze up to and could not go to my library.  Took the pod in to the store (apple genius bar), they reset the pod (said their might have been a glich in the pod), brought
it home and now it works fine

  • ITunes Freezes Whole Computer

Whenever I play a video in iTunes it will freeze up to 2 times when I watch a 20 minute tv show and when it freezes, it freezes the entire computer for a short time. Have you guys encountered this problem? If so, how do you fix it?

    Christoph,
Thank you for your suggestion. I gave it a try. Unfortunately, the problem still remains exactly as before -- exporting to iTunes gets started, and about two-thirds of the way through the "creating mixdown" phase everything freezes. Any other suggestion? I'm not a particularly sophisticated Mac user, so even something obvious I would likely not have tried.

  • How do I transfer all the information in my iTunes on my old mac book to my new mac book pro so I can sync my devices to the new machine with erasing all the data my iPhone and iPad?

I have just bought a new mac book pro and want to use this machine as the main computer to which I will sync my iPhone and iPad.
How do I transfer the information within iTunes on my old mac book so when I connect the devices the new machine will not erase all my data?
    Thank you

Copy the entire iTunes folder within the music folder on your old Mac to the music folder on your new Mac.
You can use an external hard disc for the transfer, or you can connect the computers together using Firewire Target Disc Mode as explained here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661
