Itunes freezes my mbp everytime it starts

This problem just started happening for me a couple days ago. Every time I start itunes the pinwheel starts going and doesn't stop. Everything freezes. I can't do anything (force quit, switch spaces, launch a different application, etc) while the pinwheel is going. Even if i leave my computer alone for an hour it will still be going so im forced to do a manual shut down. This happens every time i start itunes regardless of what else I have running.
I've tried reinstalling itunes but that didn't help at all.
Anyone else have this issue. Any ideas on how to fix this? it's driving me crazy, I need my music!
Thanks!

I'm facing similar problem. It happened ever since i was prompted to update my safari 3.0 to safari 4 while accessing the itunes store. I have not been able run itunes, MSN messenger, quicktime player (including websites that uses quicktime webplayer). I have started a thread under the Safari for Mac category a week ago but i have not gotten any response yet. must be the crossmas.
happy holidays everyone. i need my mac to be glitch free before i relocate to a new country!

  • ITunes 10.4 crashes everytime i start it on windows XP SP 3

Just upgraded to itune 10.4 but the it keeps crashing everytime I start it. Upgraded as the earlier version was not backing up stuff on my new ipad 2 and would hang often while syncing.
Is there a fix to get itunes 10.4 or should I uninstall and go back to 10.3?

    would hang often while syncing.
Your a/v software and firewall may be preventing the sync process.

  • ITunes freezing my MBP completely when opened

Hi, this has started happening to me just yesterday night, and if I can't find a fix for it could mean disaster to me as I wouldn't be able to sync my iPhone's info until someone somehow finds a solution, so any help is greatly appreciated.
I was organizing my songs as usual last night, everything seemed to be fine, then I walked away to do something else; when I came back, I turned on iTunes again, and my laptop completely froze (can't manually close the program, had to do a hard restart). Same thing happened again after restarting, everytime I turn iTunes on, within 5 seconds of iTunes popping up, "spinning beach ball" shows up, and my computer freezes. my cursor still moves, clock is still working, but I can't click on anything. After searching online for a solution, I have come to realize that it's quite a common problem, but no one seems to have a sure shot way to fix this. I have tried un-installing/re-installing, and I have tried going to disk utility and repairing disk permission, but to no avail. I would really hate to format my hard drive, as there are way too many things in my laptop to back up, so that would be my absolute last resort and I'll try to steer away from that if possible. If anyone can lend a helpful tip, that'd be great! Please let me know also if you need any more information from me. Thanks in advance!!

first back up your music library completely to an external HardDrive, everything, including movies, TV, apps, everything...
completely wipe your iTunes off of your HD, (preferences, everything do a search) then just make sure all other programs are working... if you experience other crashes, then you do need a clean install, maybe even a HD wipe.... (also remove battery for a couple mins to reset some things helps some things, but this doesn't sound like one of them)
if no other crashes, try installing itunes from a stand alone installer, downloaded from Apple....
    anyway a start...

    Hi there,
I have the same issue as you do, this has been going on for quite a while now (2 months) and I have tried everything, including creating a new user - did not work. Perhaps you might have better luck than I did.
I really don't understand how this can just start happening for no reason.
If you have any luck I would be keen to hear how you fixed the problem.
    Good luck!

  • Itunes freezes whenever a download is started, unable to obtain purchases

I just got my computer back with a new hard drive after finding out that the old one was faulty, and I finally got around to installing Itunes.  The only problem is that I cannot download anything from the store, because Itunes keeps locking up and I have to close it completely through task manager and open it up again to get it running.  There are no error messages or warnings, it just freezes in place.

Well, just because it worked a few weeks ago doesn't mean your ISP isn't to blame. Not to say it is, but you shouldn't rule it out. Just like iTunes, your ISP changes/goes through updates/etc etc etc. Things can break and become funky on their side at any time.

  • Trying to sync iPhone apps to iPad--iTunes freezes up...

Aargh. When I first connected I my iPad to my Win7 (32-bit) machine, I checked off the Apps box. It started syncing apps, but would get through about six and then freeze up--progress bar stopped, and task manager listed iTunes as Not Responding. Have since hard reset the iPad and reinstalled iTunes and successfully synced photos, contacts, etc. However, when I click on the Apps tab, it pulls up the list and then iTunes freezes, even before I can start selecting specific apps.
    Any ideas?

Have you run iTunes as "administrator."
Or chosen to run iTunes in another version? Kind of Vodoo that sometime can trick.
Is the iTunes for Windows running 32 bit in your 64 bit OS?
Have you also done the game of changing USB slots? With my iTouch sometimes I've had to use the back ones on my Asus Striker.
And there's sometimes an issue with other USB slots being used for such things as product key registration. that persuaded Toonboom Studio to drop product keys the mayhem ruined Vista... well one of many.
My old Toonboom Pro USB product refused to allow me to boot another app and produced some weird readings until i unplugged the USB keys, USB external drive and my USB camera.
Windows 7 Ultimate is amazingly solid, 64 bit especially for once MS has equaled Snow leapord so if non of this works I suggest you push to go up the ladder.
Failing any resolution it might be the cables or the iPad.
You clearly have a modern system and Windows 7 64bit Ultimate is not Vista so push hard as it also educates Apple tech support.
If it's Apps alone not syncing it sounds like you should also go into Windows and open the At Start up list window and click exclude all MS software then deselect your anti-virus and most other apps except for all networking.
I've found many an application that failed to install correctly would after running as administrator and deselecting all apps at start up that are not directly needed for network and of course iTunes. Get rid of virus software, Steam and all Adobe.
Streamline your startup and you'll find the Apps will sync.
    Good luck.

I just download and install itunes 10.5 and it worked good the first days but since yesterday it crashed up, and everytime i start it it crashes again and logged me out each time. it can´t acces my itunes account. I´m using snow leopard the last version. What can i do to solve this problem and and continue using my itunes normally?

Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
    Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com.  Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan.  Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans.  Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors  This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive
    Good Luck!!.

What can I do about itunes freezing everytime I try to do something substantial like erase all my duplicates

Where is your library file? If it is on a network share rather than a local disk that can cause a big slowdown.
Every change in the library requires that all smart playlists are reevaluated and the library is rewritten to disc. As your library grows the time taken to perform these actions will grow exponentially rather than linearly.
As to duplicates, I've written a script called DeDuper which you might find useful. See this  thread for background.

  • ITunes installs everytime I start it

I'm runing iTunes on Vista Ultimate. Everytime I start iTunes, it says preparing to install then says please wait while Windows configures iTunes. Any ideas why this is always the case?
Also, for some reason, it's become horribly slow. It constantly consumes about 50% of my cpu even when nothing is going on. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling but that doesn't do anything. I have another Vista box that iTunes works just fine on.
Message was edited by: brett romero

After a couple of reboots, it seems to be running fine. However, there is a TrustedInstallter.exe process that always starts with iTunes. It is uses a good bit of cpu but eventually goes down on usage. Under the cpu column, the iTunes process is about 33 while something is playing, which causes cpu usage to stay above 50%. On my other Vista box, iTunes is usually around 5 in the cpu column while something is playing and total percentage is around 10%. The strange part is that the problem PC has 4GB RAM, CoreDuo E6600, and plenty of hard drive space.

If you don't have an icloud account, then icloud is not the thing that's popping up a window.
If you are being asked to enter a password when accessing itunes, then the problem may be that you have purchased items (apps, songs, etc) on the device that were purchased using a different itunes account than the one you currently have defined on your device.
Purchased items are forever associated with the itunes account (the apple ID) that was used to make the purchase.  If you change the ID on the device, you won't be able to update any of them.  You'll have to purchase them again.

  • Everytime I start Itunes, I get the Welcome Screen and everything is reset

    Hi,
everytime I start ITunes 64 bit on my Windows 7 64 bit PC, I get the Welcome Screen and all is reset.
Seems to be ITunes can not store the settings after closing.

I am having the same problem! Everything worked fine last week and now it looks as though iTunes is brand new. I can't sync my iphone without restoring. and I if I reload my library or even a song, nothing saves when closed. It just sits there empty.

but cannot do this because I cannot access Mac App Store
If you can't access the App Store from the Apple menu, Dock, or Applications folder installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo will reinstall the App Store for you.
It's ok to do this even you are already running v10.6.8.

  • ITunes Freezes When I Start To Sync iPod

Every time I plug in my ipod, itunes opens up and my ipod starts to sync. After a few seconds itunes completely freezes up. My ipod changes to connected and i have to use task manager to close itunes. After i do this I try to "safley remove hardware" but it says my ipod is still being used. I go back to task manager but itunes isnt open. The only thing i can do now is just unplug my ipod. After my ipod gets to the home screen, it has all the music it had before the sync. I just want my new music on my ipod and i have no idea wats wrong!!! Please help me!!!!!!

I have the same issue and I too have Windows Vista (32 bit, how about you?). My itunes works on my laptop until I plug in my ipod. The second my laptop recognizes it, my itunes freezes. My ipod (mini) says that it's connected though. When I try to disconnect my ipod, it says that it's still being used but Itunes isn't open according to the task manager. The only way to "safely" unplug my ipod is to turn off my laptop and the ipod's screen no longer says "do not disconnect". I can't add or take off anything from my ipod now.
