ITunes Freezes on Windows XP Pro

My iTunes application freezes after I import music. I tried to uninstall and re-install (Including clean up of all preference files etc.) no change.
After it freezes I have to "End Application" at that point iTunes goes away and I loose Internet connectivity which only a restart solves.
I am not sure if it matters but I use IE 7.0
The iTunes version is the latest 7.XX
At this point I can not use iTunes!
Any suggestions?

Using the new version of Itunes and having the same problem. For weeks now! I can open Itunes and then a couple clicks into it and it freezes. If i am lucky enough to get a song to play-i can't get it to stop. It won't let me hit the pause or stop key. After everymovent-FREEZE! It takes about 20 mins to import a 10 song CD. Bogs down my whole system. I have tried everything, uninstalling, reinstalling, removing plug-ins, downgrading to an older version (which can't read your library because it was made with a newer version of Itunes) Everything you can imagine, I have tried. I even thought of scrapping the whole Ipod and buying a new player of some sort and using Real or the Media Player but they don't recognize my music (library) because it was made by Itunes. Can you even believe it? This whole ordeal consumes me because I love my Ipod and music is essential to my daily life. Nothing has helped. I hope you have better luck than I.

  • ITunes freezes on my macbook pro when i sync my iphone

    Hi guys --
I've been following tons of threads to get an answer - can you help?
Out of nowhere, my iPhone can't sync with iTunes - whenever I plug in my iPhone, iTunes freezes, and I get the rainbow beachball. After a bit, I get a message that my computer is set not to allow synching -- do I want to allow synching? I select yes, and then I'm told this isn't allowed. When I select override, it's still not allowed.
    Here's my specs:
    MacBook Pro (2011, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7), running OS X 10.9.4
    iTunes 11.3.1
    iPhone 5S, running iOS 7.1.2
    Here's what I've done:
    - repaired disc permissions, and restarted the computer (nothing changed.)
    - followed every suggestion here (iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) -- including installing updates to both OSs and iTunes, disabled sync (and iTunes STILL freezes), deleted every podcast I had from both my iPhone and laptop, and rebuilt my iTunes library following the instructions that they gave.
The only other thing I can think to do is to start a new user on this laptop, copy over my music (which is all backed up to an external hard drive, so no biggie - just annoying), and/or reformat my iphone or this computer. Would REALLY love not to do that. Any other suggestions or ideas?

    Hi there,
I have the same issue as you do, this has been going on for quite a while now (2 months) and I have tried everything, including creating a new user - did not work. Perhaps you might have better luck than I did.
I really don't understand how this can just start happening for no reason.
If you have any luck I would be keen to hear how you fixed the problem.
    Good luck!

  • Itunes installed on Windows xp Pro 64 bit

I just built a new computer using an AMD 64x2 processor. The operating system is Windows XP Pro 64. I used Itunes on my old 32 bit xp, but now I can't get Itunes installed on the 64. Is there a different driver I need to install and if so where can I get it.

Here's a tip from another user that might work; I can't vouch for it myself:
If you've got Vista x64, you need to open a Command Prompt box and run the command there, changing directories first:
    cd c:\windows\SysWOW64
    regsvr32 /u vbscript.dll
You'll also need to configure a symlink to help iTunes find Quicktime:
    mkdir "c:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime"
    mklink /d "c:\Program Files\QuickTime" "c:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime"
After installation, you should probably close the Big Fat VBScript Security Hole:
    regsvr32 /u vbscript.dll
    Hope that helps.

  • Installing iTunes + QuickTime on Windows XP Pro

I have just taken receipt of the iPod given as a present. Unfortunately I have yet to use it.
This is a similar problem to that mentioned previously BUT it appears they actually managed to install the software.
I have not had the pleasure of having actually installed the software. I have removed and reinstalled to no avail. Just approaching the end of the installation, and near the end of the QuickTime install I get the ominous Windows message from Microsoft:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I would appreciate a step by step guide on resolving this, so please make no assumptions on computer expertise. Your expert help would really be appreciated. By all means post your answer directly to me as well as to the Forum. Thanks in advance.

    hi Keith!
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close
the first thing that i check for when people report getting that message when they try to launch their itunes is a broken QuickTime.
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly, or do you get an error message?
if you get an error message, the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
    love, b

  • Since upgrading to 11.1 my Itunes freezes in Windows 7 64 bit what can I do to fix this? I have uninstalled and reinstalled and tried a new user account and tried changing my settings

Since upgrading to 11.1  ITunes keeps freezing,  I have windows 7 64 bit.  I have tried opening in safe mode and creating a new user, I have also uninstalled and reinstalled.  What can I do to fix this? Its very frustrating.

  • Itunes freezes for windows

My itunes freezes after i click on videos tab in my library... this only started when i got the lastest itunes version on july 6th, 2007. I am using windows XP.
Eventually i have to close my itunes and it gives "not responding" error and closes itunes.

I'm not sure why this is happening, but guess what? There is another new version of iTunes out!!!! Maybe it fixes your problem.
To download. I would suggest shutting down your anti-virus/firewall software and anything else running in the background, then go to the Apple site and download the latest iTunes update to your desktop. Once you take a deep breath--then push the install button!
I'm curious--do things work after the update?

  • ITunes Freezes on Windows 7

Has anyone experienced iTunes freezing up while on Windows 7? I just installed the newest version (10.2.1.1) and it has frozen twice.

iTunes freezes ALL THE TIME for me on Windows 7 -64 bit.  I have to kill the process in task manager and restart it.
Generally, this happens when I plug my iPad 2 in, without first starting iTunes.  Then iTunes "starts" and stays frozen.
It happens in other situations also, all when it appears that an "auto" process is initiated, rather than one I have initiated.
This is more annoying because one cannot do much of anything in moving stuff back and forth between the iPad and the computer without iTunes.  (Dropbox aside).

  • Itunes freezes with Windows 7

Help! I have an issue with Itunes freezing everytime I open it. Its getting really irritating and I'm getting ready to return my Ipod. I love it but the software is not cooperating...

I had the same problem and resetting winsock resolved it.  iTunes would endlessly display "Accessing iTunes Store" without ever actually connecting.  I couldn't Authorize my computer to play purchased music or buy new music.  I would have to kill iTunes in Task Manager and restart iTunes.  I am running Windows 7, installed latest version of iTunes recently.  Uninstall and reinstall didn't work.  Here's how my husband finally got it working:
The last 4 or 5 lines at the bottom of the document (pasted entire string of text below) are the things that I ran to get it working:
Make sure that c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS file has 127.0.0.1 in it!
    Reset ipconfig
    Flush DNS
    Reset all winsock networking connections
iTunes is NOT enabled in Windows Firewall.
Connection attempt to Apple web site was unsuccessful.
    The network connection timed out.
Basic connection to the store failed.
    The network connection timed out.
Connection attempt to Gracenote server was successful.
    The network connection timed out.
Last successful iTunes Store access was 2013-02-04 14:12:42.

  • Why does itunes freeze up windows/PC but work fine on mac?

Yes itunes is apple but why make it so bad on PC and fine on mac? not everyone has the money for mac. And school wise windows is much easier than mac. One of my friends is stupid enough to rely on pages for everything but when we need to use excel or publisher she cant figure out how to do things so she either goes to the library in precious sleep time before school, or during lunch and recess, etc; OR she uses my laptop before school which I find quite annoying moving it from my morning mess down to another room. Seriously if Apple is trying to get more people to buy macs ITS NOT F*CKING WORKING!!!! It's just making me ****** at having to wait 10 hours and lose most of my sleep trying to do a recovery of my ipod coz it took too long to sync and kept stuffing up my laptop. And now i cant have any decent games because it will freeze up my perfectly fast and relativly new laptop (few months old). This also happens on all other windows in my household and my friends also complain. BTW I am not a noob. I'm actually really good with technology and gaming though my appearance suggests otherwise.

Around these parts - yes resync is a word.
The waiting icons are appearing in the iPad correct? If so, finish the downloads in iTunes on your computer and then try to sync the apps. Don't connect the iPad when you do this - just try to finish the downloads in iTunes.
Where can you see your music? In the music app itself on the iPad?

  • Would itunes run on windows xp pro?

Because I have itunes, but it wont open when i click on the icon on the desktop. But quicktime works fine, so the only conclusion i came up with is that itunes probably doesnt run on windows xp pro

itunes shouldn't have any problems running on xp pro. if the desktop icon doesn't work, i would try opening itunes from iTunes.exe from its installation location, usually program files/itunes. if that doesn't work, try uninstalling then reinstalling itunes. that tends to fix quite a few problems.

  • Cannot Install iTunes 9 in Windows XP Pro 64-bit

    Okay, here's the situation:
I was an early adopter of Vista, in its 32-bit form. Ran fine, lasted a long time. Needed more memory, so installed Vista 64-bit a few months back as part of an upgrade to a larger boot disc.
Initially, the version (whatever it was) of iTunes installed and worked okay, but after an upgrade of Windows and iTunes (done at the same time) killed the whole thing. It installed correctly, but when I ran iTunes, it would hang.
I know about relatively short hangs while trying to connect to the iTunes store, as well as the potentially hours-long hang during the 'gapless playback' process, but these hangs were for more than 12 hours in some cases, and required that I manually end the program.
About a week ago, I decided to go back to XP Professional because several updates had created an unusable environment for iTunes, even with deleting everything Apple and starting over multiple times.
With a clean Windows XP Professional 64-bit install, I thought I might have a chance. Turns out, I was wrong.
I downloaded the latest iTunes 64-bit package, only to be told this is for Windows Vista 64-bit only. Fine. I downloaded the latest iTunes 32-bit package and was greeted with a message that suggested I download the 64-bit version. Are we sure Microsoft didn't buy Apple somewhere along the line? This is not the sort of nonsense I have seen in about 15 years experience with Apple products.
Next I looked for any tricks or tips that might help me do what I wanted. I learned Orca is more than a Sea World attraction, and many other new things. At the end of the day, I cannot find any way to successfully install iTunes 32-bit or 64-bit into Windows XP Professional 64-bit.
Is there anyone that has successfully installed the latest iTunes (32- or 64-bit versions) into XP Pro 64-bit without hacking, cracking or smacking their system? Anyone? If so, I would love to hear how it's done.
It's painfully obvious that Apple never tested this O/S or they might have fixed the problem before releasing iTunes 9.
Although my iPhone contract ended about two months ago, I'm not rushing out to get a new phone until this problem is resolved. Currently it is essentially a paperweight as I have no access to some application updates that will only complete when it is tethered.

Follow the directions here.  But the problem is that the I-tunes installer calls for the wrong file name so… if you rename the file named “AppleMobileDevice64.msi” to “AppleMobileDevice.msi” it should install.  When it says “iPod service failed to start…”  run this patch then click “retry” it’ll work fine.  Merry Christmas from Lokie!
P.S. Please repost the patch thanks

  • Just upgraded to 10.7 - cannot play movies or TV programs - iTunes freezes and Windows states iTunes has stopped working and kicks me out - play audio OK, store and synching to devices OK.

Running Windows Vista Home Premium - Service Pack2
iTunes has always worked beautifully - opened it yesterday and said upgrade was available so I did and upgrade seemed to be successful - no errors and program launches and all my music, TV programs, Movies, etc, were there. Audio works well.  Tonight I tried to play a movie and got the Windows iTunes has stopped working and searching for solution (which there is none) and closing the warning box closes iTunes.  iTunes used to launch a "separate" black window for my movies/TV - I seemed to get  a black background before everything freezes.  Not happy.  Thanks for any help - I tried to upgrade quicktime just to make sure it wasn't lagging behind the iTunes upgrade but that didn't help.

Let's try the following user tip with that:

  • ITunes Freezing Both Windows Explorer and Itself!

    Hello!
I understand that this has been happening a lot lately due to the new iTunes version (or rather, the newest version of Quicktime?). I'm a little afraid to reinstall iTunes now because as of recently, it's been freezing up my Windows Explorer and genuinely messing up my entire PC. I've had to do a factory reset to it twice in order for me to actually use my computer again...
So, I was wondering if there was actually a fix for this now. And if there isn't, are there any ways to avoid having my PC rendered useless?
Here are my PC specs, btw:

I get it during the install.  thank you for replying Pat.

  • Itunes freezes with windows 7 when dialog boxes are opening?

I have an issue with itunes (i am running whatever the latest version is) and Windows 7 - it freezes for long periods when I do any actions which lead to additional windows pr dialog boxes to appear.  For example when I click to create a new playlist there is sometimes a very long wait for options window to appear, when I click to delete a song and waiting for confirmation box to appear, etc.  I have been experiencing this issue with every version of Itunes and windows

It is enough. I am fed up now.
iTunes does not update automatically on my Windows 7 (64) and never did on my previous Windows 7 (32).
Yes, update freezes again and again as it did on my old computer. So what the hek do you want me to update?
    And no:
I do NOT want to borwse any more tutorials.
I do NOT want to personalize my experience.
I do NOT want to check out any community discussions.
I do NOT want to 'see around the communities'!
I just want to have fun! If possible with my iPod, if not I'll change that to another device too (and in order not to unsatisfy any other person not even donate it to an NGO).
One more chance for Apple an iTunes:
Just tell me what to do in order to fix my update problems - or else I shall be gone.
    CU? Your decision.
