ITunes Freezes Seconds after Startup

Hi,
It seems like after I installed the newest version of iTunes, it freezes seconds after startup, I literally can't do anything with it, I've even tried restarting it, and it still does nothing.
Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix it, would love to be able to add and remove podcasts/music.
Thanks

Hello & Welcome to Apple Discussions,
I can post an error log if anyone will find it helpful.
Please go ahead & post it, most recent you can find more info the better. Your Home folder/~Library/ Logs-> Crash Logs most recent one.
Just copy and paste it in to a reply. They can be interesting to see i can't quite read them,( working on it:) I know others surely can. Good luck.

  • Itunes consumes 100% of CPU 15 seconds after startup

I was using iTunes 8, and experienced the following very annoying problem : 15 seconds after startup, the itunes application starts to consume 100% of CPU, and the application is not responding anymore. If I started to play a file within those 15 seconds, the file continues to play normally, but I cannot stop it anymore, and I cannot work on my PC (as 100% of CPU is taken by iTunes).
I tried to upgrade to iTunes 9.2, but the problem persists.
Any idea what can be the cause of this problem ? It prevents me to use iTunes on my PC.
    Config of the PC :
    - Windows XP
    - 1 Gbyte RAM
    - AMD 1.14 GHz

    Sorry Itunes 11.0.2

  • Windows Freezes 5 seconds after startup about 70% of the time

To start, I formatted my machine, installed Leopard, ran Boot Camp to set up a Windows partition, used a SP2 Windows XP CD, and started the Boot Camp process fine. Everything was good the first couple of days. Then however I very frequently found that when I start up windows, occassionally the mouse and keyboard would cease to be responsive and I'd be forced to hold the power button to reboot. I've noticed this happens at exactly the same time the brightness goes down 1 level so my best guess is whatever Boot Camp process is being started up is what's causing this.
Typically what happens is I'm in OSX, I click the Reboot option, hold down the Option key when I see the gray screen, then select Windows. Once I get a mouse cursor, I start moving it in circles and wait about 5 seconds after the desktop has loaded. If the mouse freezes, I reboot and try again. If it doesn't, I figure I'm good to go and continue using my machine.
Sometimes also around the same time instead of freezing it just immediately reboots the machine.
This problem is occuring way more than half of the time. Luckily it's only at startup and if I just keep trying until it works, then I can continue to use Windows without any problems.
I own a full version of Parallels and this problem has never occured when I start up my Boot Camp partition with that. I feel like that gives a reasonable amount of confidence to the difference in the Boot Camp service/drivers.
    What can I do?

    * Here is how I partially solve this annoying problem:
In activity monitor, one can clearly saw that Paralells 3 is jumping from one core to another (why is so, I do not know - perhaps they wanted to make similar thermal load on both cores).
Confirmation in syslog: an 19 07:06:29 aeroflot kernel[0]: [Parallels] IPI stat: rescheduled 1 cpus out of 2.
Removing vmmain.kext from kernel does not solving anything because Paralells requires this kext to be loaded in order to work!
    1. Disable one core if you have dual CPU. This will resolve "core jumping" problem. The system will work with reduced performance, but since Paralells is still unable to use multiple cores, it might be less painful.
    2. Try to avoid automatic loading of vmmain.kext during system startup when you boot both cores, or better, you can load vmmain manually when you want to work with Parallels 3.

  • ITunes freezes momentarily after any action

Ten seconds after I start playback, or pause, or move something between playlists, or delete something, or really do anything at all in iTunes, the program freezes (pinwheel cursor) for a few seconds. If it’s playing a video, the video playback freezes as well.
Has anyone else experienced this, and have you been able to fix it? Is it just me? Is my iTunes library too large?

Having the same freezing issues ever since I installed iTunes 10. Looks like there are some work-arounds but none that aren't a total headache. Check out some other strings in the forum and you'll find instructions to download 9 and revert. From the forums it looks like this is a universal problem but Apple seems mum on the issue. Completely unacceptable to roll out an "update" this significant and have an issue of this scale. I've been an Apple advocate for years but lately they seem to be dropping the ball in their rush to get new products to market and create buzz. Well done Apple - you have now firmly cemented my decision to give up on your products.

  • Can't make LOM working more than 20 seconds after startup

    Hi.
This bottle in the sea because I don't succeed to make LOM working.
    The story is the following.
I have 5 Xserve Intel involved in a Xsan installation. Port 1 is used for public LAN, port 2 for private LAN, as usual.
I've configured the LOM settings for port 1 locally with Server Monitor with another IP in the public LAN.
Then I've added the Xserve in the Server Monitor of an iMac used for the administration of the SAN.
The messages I get are a waiting for an answer of the Xserve or the fact that the information have not been updated... for a long time. All the Xserve present the same problem. At this moment, it's not possible to ping the LOM Port 1.
If I add the server locally in its own Server Monitor with its LOM IP, it doesn't work either but if I try "127.0.0.1", I get the hardware informations as expected.
I've tried to shutdown a Xserve, unplug the power cords, wait one minute, plug the power cords, start it but it doesn't fix the problem. Perhaps I should have unplug the other cables ?
    Finally, I've noticed that :
    - when the Xserve is shut down, I can ping the LOM Port 1
    - during the start up of the Xserve, the iMac gets its hardware informations for a couple of seconds
    - at the moment when the login window is visible in ARD, the LOM Port 1 is no longer ping-able
    - the Server Monitor on the iMac says that the connection with the Xserve has been lost.
That is to say that the iMac receives the hardware informations of the Xserve during 20 seconds after their startup, not more
I've tried to use the command sudo IPMITool lan print 1 and it seems that the configuration is correct.
I have also another problem with Server Monitor. If I try locally (with the 127.0.0.1 address) to edit notifications, I don't succeed to complete the "To" field whereas I can comlete the "From" field. Is there a known problem with the GUI here or do I have to change my glasses ?
Any idea is welcome now ! I'm lost.
    All the best.

    Hi.
I've investigated the problem. It's simple but I 've found no solution at the moment.
The problem appears when the Xserve is connected to the Cisco Catalyst 3750G switch, can't be reproduced when the Xserve is in direct attachement with my Mac.
All the ports of this switch have been set to "Desktop" with the Web interface (after Express Setup) and the negociation (speed/duplex) is auto by default.
When the Ethernet negociation setting on the Xserve is "Automatic", the Xserve doesn't fully boot. When it is started, you have to unplug and plug the Ethernet cable so the startup is completed. Very strange.
When the Ethernet negociation setting on the Xserve is manually fixed to 1000-FD, the Xserve starts up without problem. When the Xserve is stopped, the LOM Port in pingable. When it starts a little, the LOM Port is still pingable but at the moment I think the manual setting is applied, the LOM Port is no longer pingable. This is the key of the problem.
So I tried to fix the speed/duplex in the switch and leave the Xserve on "Automatic". The story is the same: the LOM Port is desactivated after a few seconds of startup.
When the Xserve is on "Automatic" and plugged directly to my Mac, the problem doesn't exist.
The problem does not exist with the Mac Pro leaved on "Automatic".
So the problem is between the Xserve Intel and the Cisco Switch. Perhaps something to do with its settings but I do not speak "Cisco" regularly
The Cisco has product ID WS-C3750G-48TS and the Software is 12.2(25)SEE3.
I made the same test with the "private" Cisco switch product ID WS-C3750G-24T and the problem is the same.
For the moment, I leave the Xserve with the speed/duplex fixed because I prefer that the machines boot, rather than being able to consult LOM remotely when they are hanged (it works locally on 127.0.0.1 on each Xserve started).
Next step would be to play with setting the spanning tree "portfast" on the Cisco ; if it lets the Xserve to be set on "Automatic", perhaps it will solve the LOM problem and by the way the edit notification problem.
    All the best !

  • PowerMac G5 freezes shortly after startup without fail

    Hi,
I have a PowerMac G5 running Tiger and am having an issue with it freezing.
The whole system will freeze, including the cursor, about a minute after startup. Sometimes it happens during startup and sometimes its longer than a minute, but it always happens.
I haven't installed anything new lately and I'm not sure what would have caused this.
I was able to boot from the install CD but unable to run it because the system freezes before I can do anything. I tried booting while holding down Command+S and was able to boot, but still have the freezing issue.
Anyone have suggestions on what to try next? Please let me know if you need any particular information to help determine the cause.
    Thank you!

  • My computer freezes right after startup

My MacBook Pro 13 inch is always freezing right after logging in. And it has the spinning ball and just freezes there and I can not do anything but to wait but nothing happens. I am writing this on a iPad because my Mac is not working. I really need help! MacBook Pro 13 inch OSX 10.8.4.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • First time backup on Itunes freezes just after backup

My Iphone 3G has had its first backup but freezes just after in the process program screen at 20090705..... I am running Windows Vista. Please help as I would like to complete the process.

Make sure you don't have any iTunes addon installed (many of them are visualisers that may do other things like display lyrics and so forth). They can remain even if your reinstall itunes.
go to the iTunes folder and backup your itunes library xml and itl files to another location then delete them and try starting iTunes then.
That might help figuring out the problem

  • Freezing right after startup

    Hi,
Recently, my macbook pro has been freezing on me right after start up. It boots fine and then right after loading my desktop, it freezes. The mouse curser is always at the apple icon on the top left corner. Is there anyway to fix this problem other than just turning it off and on? Sometimes it freezes even after multiple tries of pushing the power button off/on manually.
I'm running Leopard, OS X version 10.5.5. If anybody can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Try to boot from your OS installer disk and Repair Disk from Disk Utilities. Have you installed anything recently? Have you tried booting while holding down the shift key?

  • My itunes freezes when after I hit the letter a

Hi, I have a few computers this is doing it on. First I hit the letter "a" then when I go to type in the next letter my itunes freezes and I have to shut down Itunes.
Other letters are fine. This is on Vista and WIndows 7

I'll assume you are using a Windows computer. Uninstall iTunes and reinstall using the directions in one of these support documents, depending on your version of Windows.

  • IPod touch 2g freezes soon after startup (i.e. it's unusuable)

As per the title. Every time I boot it up, it freezes soon after, normally after performing an action (pressing an on-screen button, etc). Once frozen, it doesn't unfreeze, so I have to hard reset it. Leaving it in sleep also freezes it, although not as quickly. Before experiencing this problem, my iPod would occasionally freeze itself while I was sleeping (it would have been in sleep mode while this happened, and the battery was sometimes drained when I woke up).
So far, I've tried DFU+restoring it to 4.3.1 twice, and once to 4.1. It's been able to sync my music (and to play it, once!)
My iPod is two and a half years old, and is not damaged in any way that would influence its performance.
I can provide any extra information that's necessary.

If the problem persists after restoring to factory defaults/new iPod (you did not state that that was the restore you performed), then I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem.

  • Apple TV freezing immediately after startup

Hi, I've been away for a fortnight and suddenly my Apple TV no longer works. It starts up as normal and shows the startup video clip, then it displays the menu with "Top Movies" selected, however it doesn't display any movie thumbnails above the menu like it used to. The remote won't do anything at this stage (except the white light on the Apple TV flashes when a button is pressed).
Then after 4 minutes 20 secs (same time every time) the Apple TV restarts by itself and comes up with the language choice and then the recovery screen. I ran the diagnostics check and it said it's working correctly. The remote works at this point.
If I then choose to restart the startup clip displays and then it freezes exactly as before.
Using "IP Scanner" I can see that it's on the network and I can ping it. However it doesn't show up as a device in iTunes and I can't connect to it with Remote app on my iPhone.
It's running the latest Apple TV OS, though at the moment I have no way of finding out what that version is right now as it freezes!
I live in the UK - could it be possible that it's trying to display a movie thumbnail that's causing it too freeze? I've had this problem with a video in My Movies that I encoded using VisualHub.
I'd rather not do a factory restore at this stage because I've changed the original 40GB HD to 120GB and had problems doing a factory restore when I last had problems with it over a year ago.
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions
    Tim

It IS hot, but looking through other posts it would seem to be normal for ATV.
It does get hotter than you might expect without it being a problem, heat is dissipated through the casing, the bit you need to watch for is the ambient air temperature, if the heat is unable to escape because it is an excessively warm environment or it is placed in a cabinet, problems can occur. However in such circumstances it seems that the unit doesn't restart properly straight away, ie it seems to need to cool, and it also seems that this doesn't necessitate a restore.
(AaMoI, where did you get the avatar from and can it be stored in Fonts? - just curious).
    , this one. (shift + alt + K)
By component do you mean a cable with three different coloured plug-ins?
    Yes
I was leaning towards early sign of hardware failure, but because it works normally for awhile after a factory restore, perhaps as you suggest there's a faulty cable or a software glitch.
May or may not be, but it's possible, so I'd tend to try it myself.
