ITunes freezes up upon opening

MY recently downloaded iTunes 9 keeps freezing up as I open it. Sometimes, I'm able to click into iTunes Store or one of my Music playlists or other tabs, but then it freezes right away after that. Today, I tried upgrading to iTunes 9.0.1 through Apple Software Update, and it succesfully downloaded. But, midway through the installation, it said something like error occurred, please try using tools > download manually. But now iTunes 9.0.1 won't even show up on the updater. What should I do?

sorry to double post but I've tried reinstalling and I've found out my iTunes version is 9.0.1.8 but it still goes unresponsive after about 15 seconds or immediately after entering store.

  • My iTunes freezes immediately after opening. How do I fix it?

My iTunes (10.2.2) application freezes immediately after opening. This is after having to check the library. I have left it frozen before for several minutes before force quitting. What should I do?

  • ITunes freezes / will not open / will not sync / will not detect Iphone

I am having numerous problems with iTunes. A few days ago iTunes began to freeze after opening, or not open at all. If it did open, it would not detect my iphone and would freeze when I plugged it in.
After reviewing these forums, I completely un-installed and re-installed iTunes, Quicktime, all the Apple Support applications, and Bonjour. I had to do this several times. I also ran anti-virus software, registry error software, disk-error checking software, with no results. I also ran a system restore to a date when iTunes was working. Eventually I got to a point where iTunes would open somewhat reliably, although slowly. However it would still not detect my iPhone, would often freeze after I connected my iPhone. Additionally, all of my audio files (music and podcasts) would not be detected by iTunes, and their associated libraries would show as empty, however the files were in the correct location on my hard drive.
I do not know what to do from this point...I have un-installed and re-installed iTunes upwards of a dozen times now, that can not be the problem. To the best of my knowledge, this problem began happening at random; I did not install any new software or make any changes to my system immediately prior to these problems occurring. Right now, after another re-install I am back to a point where I can't even get iTunes to open. Any help would be appreciated.
    My System info:
    Computer: Asus Notebook UL50VT/UL50Vg Series
    OS: Windows 7 Home premium
iTunes version: iTunes 10.1.1 for Windows 64-bit
    iPhone: 4.2.1
    Please Help!
    Thank you

Try this open your music app and access the store from there first, once done then you can go to the iTunes store app, try it and see if it works

  • ITunes freezes when I open the store

Ever since I downloaded the latest iTunes, it freezes when I try to open the store. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling, but it didn't fix the problem (as I have found in the past usually works when I have a problem with iTunes). I have no idea why it's doing this or what I can do to fix it. I received a lot of iTunes gift cards for Christmas and would loove to be able to actually use them. Any ideas? Thanks.

EDIT: I've re-installed twice now. After re-installing iTunes froze for about 10 minutes before it opened the "Welcome to iTunes" window. It appears to be able to access store pages, just not without freezing for 10min. at a time for every single thing I enter or click (including 10min. per character I type in a text box). Any help would be appreciated.

  • Itunes freezes, it wont open

out of nowhere, whenever i started my itunes, it kept on loading and loading. importing .xml files i have patiently waited for 45 mins, yet nothing happened.
    need help badly.

I'm having a similar issue on my Intel iMac. I launch iTunes 8.0.1 and within 3-5 minutes, iTunes beach balls and I must Force Quit the application. I'm not having any such issue on my MacBook Pro. I have a large movie/tv show library which I store on an external 1 TB drive connected to my AEBS. I always make sure I have that drive mounted before starting iTunes so that it can locate any of those files. But I don't know if that's the issue. I really only started having these freezing issues on this iMac once iTunes 8.x came out. I've gone so far as to recreate the library from scratch, remove the preference files, and reinstall iTunes. Still freezes.

  • ITunes stops immediately upon opening after installing on Windows 8 64 bit Laptop

I've installed and uninstalled iTunes 11.1 64 bit version several times but every time I try to open it I get the error message that it has stopped running and windows will try to find the probelm. Unfortunately Windows doesn't tll me anything.
My other machines (XP, Vista Home and Windows 7) work fine with the latest iTunes versions.
Would appreciate any help. I've tried all the help documents on Apple's site.

  • ITunes locking up upon opening

For whatever reason, all iTunes does now when I open it up is instantly lock up. I tried it twice, restarted by MacBook, and tried it again but only got the same result. What could be going on?

Huh, it just finished opening. I guess it wants to take about five minutes to open now.
There is definitely something wrong with that.

  • Error -42032 after Installing iTunes 11 -- crashes upon opening.

I updated to iTunes 11 and it had been working fine for a few days until today.
It randomly crashed when I used the search box to find a song. Upon reopening the program I got an "Error -42032" message that I've googled and can't find any information about:
About 5 seconds after I hit ok, iTunes crashes again. I'm guessing a reboot might fix this, but I'm curious as to what this error means.

I think mine is doing the same thing. My library loads fine, but when I try to switch to the store it comes up with an error message. The error report forces itunes to close. I tied deleting and re-downloading itunes again but had no success. Some help would be much appreciated.

  • HT4759 April 16, 2014: Even though my browsers meet the ICloud requirements, it continues to freeze immediately upon opening. ***?

I've been trying to troubleshoot this for days. I use ICloud.com to check my personal email at work on my PC desktop. I usually use Chrome and have tried IE, but ICloud continues to freeze within moments after opening yet. I've followed instructions to clear cache. I do not have plug-ins installed. Why is this so difficult? What an awful user experience.
Can anyone tell me if someone is working on this issue?

  • ITunes quits unexpectedly upon opening, even after updating all software and the program itself. Need help!

Itunes has been problematic for weeks now. ONce I click the itunes icon to open, it fails to do so. IT simply says "Itunes quit unexpectadely". I have even tried to delete itunes but cannot due to the fact it says it is required by Mac OS X. After sending multiple emails to Apple, and other troubleshooting resources, I am yet to find a difinitive answer to this problem. I have installed the new version of iTunes multiple times (given the present updates), and this has failed to fix anything. My MacBookPro is running the latest software as well. If anyone has encountered such a problem, and has any advice on how to fix such a situation, I would be greatly aprrecciative! Thanks again!

After much troubleshooting, I discovered that by unchecking 32-bit mode in the Info pane of the itunes app, it was then able to open. However, I have a sound plugin called Hear by Joesoft that now will not work wih iTunes, as long as I open it in 64-bit mode (can no longer open iTunes in 32-bit mode). I am guessing this will have to be updated or fixed on behalf of Joesoft.

  • Is anybody elses itunes freezing up when opened?

when i open itunes, the rainbow loading wheel pops up and i cant do anything and have to force quit itunes. This only started after i got the new update

Since updating to the most recent version of iTunes I'm experiencing the same type of issue. In my case it appears to be related to iTunes and virtual memory. I've seen it gobbling disk space just when open, not being used, with nothing playing. In the space of a couple of minutes 4Gb of disk space evaporated. The app. shows as not responding in the Dock pop-up menu. Force quitting freed the space again. Left it running yesterday and it eventually ran out of disk space. There is an attendent slow-down in performance of the whole machine (naturally enough) with lots of SPWODs.
I've tried reinstalling and I'm considering reverting to the previous version if I can.

  • ITunes Keeps Crashing Upon Opening

I'm running iTunes on my Dell Laptop with Windows XP. Since I downloaded the last patch from a week or so ago, each and every time I boot up iTunes, it loads the interface then promptly crashes stating "The instruction at '0x009102eb' referenced memory at '0x00000007'. The memory could not be 'written'."
I have been anxiously awaiting a new patch hoping that would fix the problem, but thus far, no luck.

+Nope, the only things I've put onto my iPod is about a gig and a half of music and half a gig of pictures. Only programs/plugins on it are the three games that came with the iPod itself.+
Hmmmm. Okay, let's see if we can narrow this down a bit further.
Let's try an experiment. (It's not a cure, we're just trying to work out if this is a systemwide crash or if it's associated with a specific XP user account on the PC.)
Head into your user accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights. (There's help documentation on how to do that at the left of the control panel screen.) While you're in that control panel, switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
Now log out of the old account and log into the new account
Launch iTunes. Eventually, you'll be presented with a blank library screen. (That's normal ... your music is off in the other account.)
Try plugging in the nano now. *If iTunes doesn't crash, do not associate the nano with the blank library.*
Does connecting the nano crash iTunes in the new user account?

  • OS freezes/stalls upon opening Applications folder

    hey
for some reason or another my computer always seems to freeze for about a minute (whilst emitting some very stressed sounding noises from the processor itself) any time I access my Applications folder. I've tried defragging my hard drive, reinstalling the system numerous times, freeing up space on my drives and, sadly due to my inherint lack of any REAL computer knowledge per se...that was all I could think of. Any suggestions anyone??!!?

Hmm. Could you define the "stressed sounds" a bit more? If you have a ton of applications in the folder, it could be the hard drive doing its thing. Do you hear these "stressed sounds" at any other time?
    Best,
    ~FifthWheel
