Itunes freezes when I connect my itouch

My itouch use to work fine but recently when I connect my itouch, itunes will freeze and not respond. When I disconnect the itouch, itunes will unfreeze and work fine. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes as well as completely reseting my itouch. Neither have solved this problem. Please help.

I just had this problem also. While I was searching for a solution, I left the ipod plugged in to the computer (with iTunes spinning it's ball of doom) - eventually (after five minutes or more) iTunes started to sync to the iPod, and now all is well.
Only thing I'd done with the ipod recently is download a bunch of stuff from AppStore...
Hope you get it sorted.

  • Itunes freezing when I connect my itouch

    Hi there
So I've had an itouch 32gig for a month or so and its been fine up until this week. Now whenever I try to connect it to itunes it seems to lock up \ freeze itunes. The ipod is fine. It shows on the screen that it is recharging when connected via usb but it locks itunes.
As least it locks itunes for approx 98% of the time. On a rare occasion itunes will recognise the ipod and try and synch, although the synch can be very slow and eventually just lock up. I'm running V2.2 on the itouch and have re-installed itunes for a second time today but there has been no change.
If I remove the itouch from the usb connection, itunes unfreezes and works fine again. But connecting the too together is close to impossible!
Argggg, can aony one suggest some ideas here of whats going on and how to fix?
    thanks

Sounds exactly like the problem I had with my iPod Touch. I found the problem to be corrupted applications on the iPod Touch itself. Try this and let us know if it works for you too. Perhaps it's the solution for many frustrated iPod Touch owners.
    1. Diconnect your iPod Touch
    2. Open iTunes
    3. From the menus click 'Edit' => 'Preferences'
    4. Click the 'Device' tab
    5. Select 'Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods' and click 'OK'
    6. Connect your iPod Touch
    7. Click on your iPod device after it appears under 'Devices' in the left panel of iTunes (this may take upto 20 minutes depending on the severity of your corruption)
    8. Click on the 'Applications' tab
    9. Ensure 'Sync Applications' is selected
    10. Click 'Selected Applications'
    11. Deselect all of your applications
    12. Click 'Apply' - This will sync your device and remove all of your applications from the iPod Touch. When the sync is complete, disconnect your iPod Touch
IMPORTANT - On your ipod Touch you may find some application icons that were not successfully removed. This is because they have some level of corruption. Don't worry, this is a good sign. Continue on.
    13. On your iPod Touch hold down one of these icons until all of the icons begin to wiggle
    14. Those icons showing the small 'X' in the upper left-hand corner should be deleted by touching the 'X' on the icon
    15. Delete each of these applications one at a time - Don't worry they'll come back after you sync with iTunes again
    16. Once they are all deleted, power off the iPod Touch by holding down the power button on the top of the device for about 4 seconds and sliding the red arrow to the right
    17. Wait about 60 seconds or so
    18. Turn the device back on by pressing the same power button for about 1 second
    19. Now reconnect the iPod Touch to iTunes
    20. Click on your iPod device after it appears under 'Devices' in the left panel of iTunes
    21. Click on the 'Applications' tab
    22. Ensure 'Sync Applications' is selected
    23. Ensure 'Selected Applications' is still selected
    24. Select each application you want transfered back to your device - Select just a couple this time around as you can add the rest in later syncs
    25. Click 'Apply' to sync these applications to your iPod
    26. Disconnect you iPod Touch
    27. Confirm the applications you selected are available on the iPod Touch
    28. If application corruption was your problem then future sync process should return to it's normal speed - which will feel super fast!
Let us know how it goes.

  • My itunes freezes when I connect my ipod....help!!

I have installed the new update (Windows 8 64 bit)  & my itunes freezes when I connect my ipod.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

please advice what is to be done to repair it.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Itunes freezes when I connect my ipod....possible corrupt file?

I reinstalled itunes to the latest version.
And I'm still having the same problem: My itunes freezes whenever I connect my ipod. And when i disconnect it, it unfreezes and it shows "My Ipod" in itunes for like a second then goes away.
Now, when I reinstalled again, i noticed a message saying that Windows is missing components required to fully install Itunes (itunes installed anyway) or something like that. Now, i connected it to my parents' pc and it works fine.
Is there something wrong with my pc? Is there a different program where i can transfer my music to my ipod? (I am using Windows XP btw)
Also is there a way to move all the songs on my ipod to an external hard drive?

    Similar problem here:
When I'm playing songs with iTunes and connecting my 3G 20GB iPod, my computer will hang up completely - screen goes dark and I have to reset my PC.
However, when my iTunes is "idle", i.e. not playing a song or doing anything else, connecting and syncing the iPod will work just fine.
I'm using the newest (6.x) Version of iTunes on WinXP SP2 with a 3G iPod 20GB.

  • Itunes freezes when I connect my 80G Ipod Classic

This has been happening for a while now, and I couldn't figure it out so I just stopped using my Ipod. I can still listen to the music on there, but its getting old and I want to put new stuff on it. But thats when the problem occurs.
I plug in my Ipod using a standard cable to the USB ports. First I get a messagr from windows asking me if I want to scan and fix any errors with the Ipod. This nevver does anything, and it just sits there infinitely so I always hit no. At this point, Itunes is opening. It opens, I can see the main screen, but By now it is already frozen. When I click on it, I verify this. It turns white and doesn't do anything. EVER. FOREVER. (I have also downloaded another program as an alternative to Itunes to see if it will work, but it does the same thing. Freezes.) So I know its not Itunes. The ipod on the other hand shows what it normally shows. That it is connected and to eject before disconnecting etc....As soon as I unplug my ipod, everything unfreezes and I'm looking at my Itunes home.
I read somehwere that Podcasts might be causing this, and it said that I have to delete all Podcasts in order to fix this. I REALLY want to try this, but I can't possibly delete the god forsaken podcasts off without the use of Itunes.
Also, I really really don't want to restore the Ipod, Because theres a **** Ton of music on here that I put from my Old PC that I no longer have anymore. So if anyone knows a solution that doesn't involve doing that, that would be top priority. If I do need to do that, POST AWAY. I'm starting to get desperate anyway...
Thanks in advance, and hopefully someone else has resolved this issue. I am standing by to provide ANY more info that you need from me.
    IPod Classic 80GB
    Itunes Version 10.6.1.7

I would suggest that when you are adding music to your iPod,
Connect to USB 2.0 port at the back of the PC and dont use any USB hub.
    Disconnect all other USB devices
Preferably disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus program
If you do a Disk Diagnostic on your iPod, there would be high numbers on the Realloc and Pending Sectors, which is causing the sync failures and Itunes freeze. The excellent post by tt2 will help you understand your problem.
    Have a nice day!

  • ITunes freezes when i connect iPod?!

I've had my iPod one week - one week!!! - and already something has gone wrong.
iTunes works fine when I'm just listening to music or what have you, but when I plug in my iPod, within a few minutes the iTunes freezes. iPod says not to disconnect, I have no choice but to, and have to alt-control-delete to get rid of iTunes.
iPod seems normal....plays fine when I'm using it and stuff. Basically they work fine independently but when I connect them, it all goes wrong.
So is it the iPod or the iTunes that's poorly, and how do I fix it?! Please help!
    Lucy. x

OKay, I've somehow managed to fix this problem (not sure how, changed the settings I think) but in doing so I've managed to wipe my iPod, and when I tried to put music back on, half the music has suddenly got exclamation marks by them and won't play.
    What have I done?!

  • My Itunes freezes when i connect my Ipad. Help?

I have a 3rd gen Ipad with version  6.1.3 installed and Itunes 11.0.2.26 installed. I am trying to connect my ipad to my laptop (windows 7). Each time I connect the USB cable, Itunes recognizes the ipad and trys to connect to it. As it trys Itunes freezes and i canot do anything. (if i am listening to music it wil continue until that song is done) The rest of my computer is fine and not frozen. Itunes will eventually get to the point where it will show a little picture of the ipad instead of the circular loading symbol. But at that point itunes is completely frozen and i can't even open any menus. If i then unplug the ipad, itunes will free up like nothing happened. i have tried reinstalling itunes, restarting my computer, resetting the device manager, restarting my ipad, tried all of my USB ports, tried connecting with my Wireless internet disconnected, and probably a few more things i can't think of, oh and when i run the diagnostics, it tells me that there is no ipad detected. And when i am plugged in, my ipad charges for a split second then says it is not charging in the top right corner. Help?

  • ITunes freezes when I connect my iPad2

I recently bought an iPad2 but have not been able to sync it with iTunes yet, because every time I connect the iPad, iTunes freezes and becomes unresponsive.
I use a Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 7 64-bit Professional, and the latest version of iTunes. When I first connected my iPad, Windows recognized it as a new device and installed it as a "hard drive"...but iTunes doesn't recognize it. In Task Manager, iTunes shows up with a "not responding" msg next to it.
And while connected, the iPad doesn't show any indicator of sync in progress (and doesn't even charge). Once I disconnect the iPad, iTunes starts responding again...but of course, no sync has been done. Even if I just leave it for a long time (tried up to 30 mins), the situation doesn't change.
So far, I've tried the following to troubleshoot:
    1. Connected the iPad to different machines - I tried both a Macbook Pro and another Sony Vaio laptop running Windows 7. On both of them, it syncs with iTunes just fine. So that rules out a problem with the iPad itself.
    2. Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes completely, including all the folders created under AppData, My Music folder, etc. Also removed and reinstalled all other components such as Bonjour, Quicktime, Apple Software Updater, Apple Mobile Service, etc. But this didn't help.
    3. Uninstalled the iPad from the Device Manager, and reconnected it. This time Windows didn't try to create it as a separate hard drive, but iTunes still behaved the same - hangs when the iPad is connected, and doesn't sync/charge.
Does anyone have further ideas on what I can try to get iTunes to sync with my iPad?

I'm having the same exact issue, I have also tried everything. Apple says its a hardware problem with the iPad, but Im out of the country and cant simply go switch it out. Plus I dont think thats it at all....
Any advice? Everything has been restarted, different USBs, Cords, Updated, Uninstalled iTunes, Downloaded new iTunes...etc...
iPad and I are off to a rocky start.

  • ITunes freezes when I connect my iPad, what is causing this?

My iPad continuously boots me out of my apps when i try and use them, Someone suggested I clean it and refill it. My problem is that when I connect it to my PC to sync it with iTunes, my iTune software freezes. I can click on anything with no result. As soon as I disconnect the iPad the last command I gave it responds.
Here is what I tried already:
I ran a dianogtics test on iTunes while the iPad was disconnected and everything is fine.
I ran it with the iPad connected (I hit the test button seconds after I connected the iPad) and everything is still fine. it even stated that my iPad was connected.
I made sure my iTunes has the latest version.
I also checked the iPad for any updates and it stated it was up to date.
I made sure there was no apps running on the iPad hen I connected it.
I tested my PC for any problems and there was none, including my internet connection.
On the iTunes screen it shows my iPad connected, but, just like every other command, it will not respond when I click on it.
    Please someone help.

Is iTunes freezing on the iPad or on your computer?
Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • IPod and iTunes freeze when I connect my 80gb iPod Classic

Ok so I've had the 80gb Classic since August 08 and I recently got a new PC (Installed drivers recently, good spec). When I connect my iPod it freezes, so does iTunes and so does My Computer. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, downloaded latest update, reset iPod, updated drivers.
When I disconnect it says it needs to be reformatted and sometimes it offers me this option when I connect without iTunes open, but then I press OK and it crashes. How can I reformat it easily?
Don't care about loosing files on my iPod.

I had an issue once where iTunes wouldn't see the iPod, and the iPod would act like its trying to connect but would never complete (On a Windows Based PC).
The only way I got around that issue with my 80GB Video iPod was to do a reset on the iPod (menu and center for a few seconds until it rebooted). After that the device was good and would sync fine.
However, if your device is saying otherwise like the format option then I'd be concerned... And I would recommend doing a restore first before a format... Try the reset, and connect.... If you are concerned once you get it syncronized then do the restore option through iTunes!
