ITunes Freezes When I Start To Sync iPod

Every time I plug in my ipod, itunes opens up and my ipod starts to sync. After a few seconds itunes completely freezes up. My ipod changes to connected and i have to use task manager to close itunes. After i do this I try to "safley remove hardware" but it says my ipod is still being used. I go back to task manager but itunes isnt open. The only thing i can do now is just unplug my ipod. After my ipod gets to the home screen, it has all the music it had before the sync. I just want my new music on my ipod and i have no idea wats wrong!!! Please help me!!!!!!

I have the same issue and I too have Windows Vista (32 bit, how about you?). My itunes works on my laptop until I plug in my ipod. The second my laptop recognizes it, my itunes freezes. My ipod (mini) says that it's connected though. When I try to disconnect my ipod, it says that it's still being used but Itunes isn't open according to the task manager. The only way to "safely" unplug my ipod is to turn off my laptop and the ipod's screen no longer says "do not disconnect". I can't add or take off anything from my ipod now.

  • ITunes freezes when I try to sync iPod

I have a 80GB iPod Classic and I just recently switched from a PC to Mac. Ever since the switch I haven't been able to sync with my iTunes library. I plug the iPod in, it recognizes it, begins syncing, and after 50 or so songs everything freezes. At this point all I can do is unplug the iPod (which I know is bad for it, but I have no other option - I've tried waiting several hours and it doesn't unfreeze).
During one of my attempts, I was able to update my iPod software and re-format it to Mac, so I know that is not the problem. I have tried resetting my iPod as well.
    Thanks in advance

I have always had this iPod with Mac, but having the same exact problem. It seems others are too, but nobody has any suggestions. Apple doesn't seem to offer any updates or patches even though i've reported this problem at least 20 times. Guess we're screwed.

My Itunes is up dated with the latest version and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. I have reset my ipod multiple times. I can't even restore my ipod because it freezes so fast I cant get the restore started. Someone PLEASE HELP!!

  • ITunes Freezes when I try to sync my new iPod Touch

I can't sync my new iPod with my iTunes library. I have posted in the iTunes forum, although my title says that I have solved the issue. It isn't, so I'm contemptlating reposting.
I bought a 64gig iPod Touch the other day to replace an old broken iPod. When I try to sync it with my main iTunes library, after a short while (5-500 songs) iTunes freezes and won't shut down. I have on a couple of occasions got a message saying the the computer can't write to the iPod, or the iPod isn't responding, or an "Unknown Error".
It seems to work fine with my laptop.
I found a page on fixing "Unknown Errors" and have tried most of the suggestions.
    I've tried:
*) Uninstalling and Reinstalling iTunes several times
*) Resetting and restoring my iPod several times
*) Updating my drivers - they are all up to date apparently
*) Stopping all unnecessary programs and services from running on start up
*) Creating a new user account and trying to sync my iPod from there. I have successfully managed to sync the iPod with a small number of songs or a film on my own account, so I need to test it with a fairly big library. I copied my main iTunes library into iTunes on the new account. The sync hasn't worked (although it is syncing the same files).
I found a post with a google search that suggested it could be a power drain on my USB port / Bus, or somet fhing like that. Not sure exactly what that means, but it sounded plausible. I have recently upgraded my graphics card.
I did also see a solution posted that suggested formatting the iPod using My Computer and the iPod icon, but I can't imagine that would do anything more than the restore iPod option in the iPod menu?
Can anyone help? Getting a bit fed up now... I've had the iPod a couple of weeks and have barely been able to use it yet.

Are you using security software on your PC? If yes, try to disable the software or check the settings. More info here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125

  • Itunes freezes when I connect my 80G Ipod Classic

This has been happening for a while now, and I couldn't figure it out so I just stopped using my Ipod. I can still listen to the music on there, but its getting old and I want to put new stuff on it. But thats when the problem occurs.
I plug in my Ipod using a standard cable to the USB ports. First I get a messagr from windows asking me if I want to scan and fix any errors with the Ipod. This nevver does anything, and it just sits there infinitely so I always hit no. At this point, Itunes is opening. It opens, I can see the main screen, but By now it is already frozen. When I click on it, I verify this. It turns white and doesn't do anything. EVER. FOREVER. (I have also downloaded another program as an alternative to Itunes to see if it will work, but it does the same thing. Freezes.) So I know its not Itunes. The ipod on the other hand shows what it normally shows. That it is connected and to eject before disconnecting etc....As soon as I unplug my ipod, everything unfreezes and I'm looking at my Itunes home.
I read somehwere that Podcasts might be causing this, and it said that I have to delete all Podcasts in order to fix this. I REALLY want to try this, but I can't possibly delete the god forsaken podcasts off without the use of Itunes.
Also, I really really don't want to restore the Ipod, Because theres a **** Ton of music on here that I put from my Old PC that I no longer have anymore. So if anyone knows a solution that doesn't involve doing that, that would be top priority. If I do need to do that, POST AWAY. I'm starting to get desperate anyway...
Thanks in advance, and hopefully someone else has resolved this issue. I am standing by to provide ANY more info that you need from me.
    IPod Classic 80GB
    Itunes Version 10.6.1.7
    Windows 7

I would suggest that when you are adding music to your iPod,
Connect to USB 2.0 port at the back of the PC and dont use any USB hub.
    Disconnect all other USB devices
Preferably disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus program
If you do a Disk Diagnostic on your iPod, there would be high numbers on the Realloc and Pending Sectors, which is causing the sync failures and Itunes freeze. The excellent post by tt2 will help you understand your problem.
    Have a nice day!

  • Itunes freezes when i try to sync my itouch?

My itunes works fine, but freezes whenever i try to sync my brand new ipod touch. it says it starts to sync the first song but then itunes freezes up. i have all the current itunes software and like i said the ipod is brand new. i tried turning off the firewall and security options but it still doesnt sync.

Yes I have had a nearly identical experience. Purchased a new iPod Touch - 2/15/2011. Connected it to my IBM Windows XP machine (SP3, latest updates, well maintained) that has served 4 other iPods (1 shuffle, 3 diff generation nanos, 1 classic, and a brand new nano purchased for Christmas 2010) flawlessly - no problems whatsoever
When attempting to sync the iPOD touch it (usually) goes through to step 4 - finishing sync, lists out the first song and hangs iTunes (I get 'not responding' with CTL-ALT-DEL). When I leave it overnight it times out and I get (iTunes unknown error -20). I called Apple tech support and between my tech knowledge and them here is what I have tried:
    - rebooted computer
    - reset iPod touch
    - uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes & other SW in sequence
    - switched USB ports
    - deleted songs which it was 'hanging' on
    To add to the fun:
....This same iPod touch when connected to my son's Lenovo laptop computer running Windows 7 syncs perfectly - no problemo
....The new Nano (Christmas 2010) syncs perfectly to this same Windows XP iTunes library
....If I try to sync the iPod Touch to other iTunes libraries on the Windows XP machine, it hangs...
Update from yesterday: I went to the genius bar and they handed me a replacement iPOD Touch. Reesult ?? same problem...
Help ! Any other ideas out there ???

  • Why is my itunes freezing when i plug in my ipod

I have one of the newer ipod touches and when I tried to put the newest update on it, everything went wrong. The newest update is on it, however, everytime I plug it into my computer itunes freezes. Ive tried everything that apple has told me to do.

Try the following (these are separate suggestions):
    Restart the computer.
Reset the iPod using the two button combo.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
If those actions do not help, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
then connecting to computer. If iTunes can now access the iPod without freezing, you should use Restore to erase the iPod and initialize the iPod's software. Then you can set it up and re-sync your songs.

  • Itunes freezes when I plug in my Ipod Touch - what should I do?

I know that this has been asked numerous times, but I haven't found a solution yet. The basics:
It was working fine yesterday, but when i plug in my ipod, itunes won't recognize it and it will freeze until I remove the ipod.
My 3rd gen ipod touch, when I try to access my music and videos (my photos are still there), just goes to a white screen.
After going to settings and about in my ipod, next to music and videos, it just says loading and won't do anything else.
I've reinstalled itunes and it has the latest update.
I've restarted my ipod many times.
I don't know what else to do. Everything else runs fine, the apps and internet connectivity is all great. Can someone please help me? This has been an absolutely terrible month and my ipod crashing is the icing on the cake from ****.

Whenever I connect my iPod classic or iPad, iTunes freezes and I have to force quit.
This happened in the previous OS and this one, and with all iTunes versions.
I'm on a 2006 iMac, upgraded to 10.7 from 10.6.8. I'm up to date on iTunes.

might be the answer to your problem as it was to mine.
"The problem, as it turned out, is all about drive letters. It seems that iPods do not like to share their drive letter with other devices, even if said devices are not connected.
If you're having this problem, try what worked for me:
With the iPod connected (and CPU at 100%, of course)
Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management
Select the iPod and choose a different letter. "

  • Itunes freezes when i try to sync apps

when i push the sync applications box i tunes stops responding

    Hi ,
Your Itunes freezes because you have too many apps (100+) . Which takes longer to load because it has to check for updates . Give it a few minutes to load . Open your browser and explore while its loads , check it every 2 minutes.
    Good Luck! & be PATIENT.

  • IPod and iTunes freeze when I connect my 80gb iPod Classic

Ok so I've had the 80gb Classic since August 08 and I recently got a new PC (Installed drivers recently, good spec). When I connect my iPod it freezes, so does iTunes and so does My Computer. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, downloaded latest update, reset iPod, updated drivers.
When I disconnect it says it needs to be reformatted and sometimes it offers me this option when I connect without iTunes open, but then I press OK and it crashes. How can I reformat it easily?
Don't care about loosing files on my iPod.

I had an issue once where iTunes wouldn't see the iPod, and the iPod would act like its trying to connect but would never complete (On a Windows Based PC).
The only way I got around that issue with my 80GB Video iPod was to do a reset on the iPod (menu and center for a few seconds until it rebooted). After that the device was good and would sync fine.
However, if your device is saying otherwise like the format option then I'd be concerned... And I would recommend doing a restore first before a format... Try the reset, and connect.... If you are concerned once you get it syncronized then do the restore option through iTunes!

  • ITunes freezes when I try to sync iOS devices

This problem started about 6 weeks ago - I believe before iTunes 10.4 even came out. When I plug in either my iPhone 3GS or iPad 2 to sync, iTunes (Windows 64 bit) just freezes. The only way to unfreeze it is to unplug the device. Typically I have to restart iTunes several times, and/or connect, disconnect, and reconnect the device several times before I can get a device to sync. It makes no difference if I connect the device with iTunes running, connect the device to launch iTunes, or launch iTunes with the device already connected.  I am always able to get the device to sync, eventually, but if I disconnect the device after syncing (e.g. iPad) and immediately connect the other device (e.g. iPhone) to sync, iTunes will freeze again. I'm fed up with this. This morning it took me 30 minutes of frustration to sync my iPad - a process that should take 30 seconds. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes but that didn't fix the problem. I've tried switching cables but that didn't fix the problem either. I have searched this forum and also the internet and have not found anybody having this exact issue. Help!

    Here is the fix:
    1. If frozen iTunes is open and iPhone is connected, right-click the task bar and select Start Task Manager.
    2. Click on the Processes tab.
    3. Look for the process distnoted.exe *32 entry.
    4. Right-click and select End Process.
    5. iTunes will now unfreeze.
    6. Close iTunes and disconnect iPhone. Wait 15 seconds.
    7. Reconnect iPhone. iTunes will launch automaticallly like it should and your iPhone will begin to sync like it should.
There appears to be an incompatibility issue with Apple's distnoted.exe process and maybe 64-bit OS's. All I know is that this works everytime although there doesn't appear to be a permanent fix to this issue. You may have to repeat these steps everytime you reboot your computer or update iTunes.

  • ITunes freezes when I try to sync my iPad

I've got a black MacBook running 10.7.3 and the latest iTunes (I can't tell you the version right now because it is currently "(Not Responding)") and a first generation iPad.
I don't sync it often, the last time being December, 2011.  I tried syncning it tonight any every single time, iTunes froze in the "(Not Responding)" state and the beach ball just spun.  I quit the process and started again and again and again.  I restarted my MacBook, restated my iPad, restarted my MacBook and my iPad.  Plugged the USB in after starting iTunes, before starting iTunes and a lot of other things including waiting several hours.
The same thing always happens, iTunes just sits and spins.  Nothing has seemed to help.  I've sent report after report after report after report to Apple.
When I'm able to get iTunes to go to the iPad page I see that the iPad has been backed up, but the sync never gets past step 5 of 7 and most of the time doesn't even get that far.
Perhaps on a related note, every time I open iTunes, it wants to sync with my first generation Apple TV.  This isn't so strange, but the strange thing is that the stuff that iTunes copies to the Apple TV during the sync is stuff that I know has already been sync'd.

One more thing, when I plug in the iPad iPhoto starts up automatically, but I have to start iTunes manually.
