Itunes freezes when I try to play music video or tv show - bought on Itunes

Hi everyone,
I've been using iTunes since Christmas and it has been working smoothly enough until today.
Today I've had my PC upgraded. I don't know much about computers but apparently there's twice as much space as there used to be and better graphics. I tried testing this by playing a tv show from on iTunes but it didn't work. Whether it's a music video or tv show, anything that requires 'watching' the screen goes black and flickers back and forth between the black screen and a frozen iTunes as if the video is about to play.
Can anyone let me know how to fix this? Has it something to do with the upgrade?
Let me know if I need to provide anymore info.
Many thanks,
YIB

  • Itunes freezes when I try to play a video..?

I have a windows 7 pc - when I try to play a tv show that I bought from itunes, and yes, it's already downloaded, itunes freezes. I've tried using itunes on different user acconts but no dice.

itunes will freeze even WITHOUT playing a song...
7.6 release of itunes was rushed so Jobs could look good at Mac Convention.
Apple didn't seem to care it was completely buggy and usless for a program. And to top the cake, if you called Apple to try and find out why iTunes was freezing and running slow, Apple blamed your computer. So 1000s of iTunes users have bad comnputers (even though they are all 100% above the minimum requirements for iTunes to run). sad Apple...how about take ownership??
there is only 1 good fix at the moment. uninstall 7.6 and reinstall 7.5 (see other threads to see how to do this flawlessly).

  • I have downloaded I Tunes 10.7 and now the program shuts down when I try to play music videos?

I have downloaded I Tunes 10.7 to my computer and now the program closes when I try to play music videos. Is there a fix out there I can try?

from what I read on the discussion boards there seems to be little or nothing to do that may not mess up the computer (Like jerky videos if Quicktime fix is tried) except wait for Apple to do a proper fix with updates at this point. I am not willing to try the fixes explained so far. The reviews of them are spotty on them working if at all. My I Tunes works on everything but the videos and that is better than nothing which did happen at first. So I will keep watching for any other fixes that might be promising or an Apple Update.

I don't know how but after two hours of trying to sync, Somehow the files that I wanted to transfer, worked. I don't know how or If I got another -54 but, all I know is that this has happened alot. I usually take hours to sync stuff. I figured this out at the last moment trying to transfer all my photos trying to create a clean slate. I somehow found my files on there.

  • IPod freezes when I try to play music

My click-wheel iPod is fine and works perfectly... until I try to play music. When I press play, it suddenly freezes on the screen and no sound plays. The headphones are fine. Then, if it does finally play something, it stutters and is very slow to react when I press anything, or it misses out songs altogether. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem? I've tried to reset it about 7 times, I've downloaded the iPod updater software and it's fully updated.
    Please help!!

Since you've already done the "5 R's," your next option should be to visit your local Apple Store (should you have one) to have an expert check it out. If you're still under warranty, there shouldn't be a problem; if not, repairs might be your best option.
    Apple's advice: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1394
Salt and electronics - not a good mix. If you cleaned your headphones, and thoroughly, you've minimized any chance of potential damage.

  • Itunes "Freeze" when i try to Import music AND putting it on to my Iphone

When i try to put Mp3's from my collection into itunes it imports some songs and then crashes on the same files. I then have to exclude these folders when im putting the music into itunes. THEN, when i try to put music from the music library to my Iphone 3gs 16gb the same thing happes, but with different songs. when i get it to sync, it does so until i reaches a spesific song, then it just tries syncing that song forever and finally the whole program crashes. What can i do?

Changed how?  Did you update the Apple ID with a new email address or create a new Apple ID?
Keep in mind that content acquired from iTunes is permanently tied to the Apple ID it was acquired with.
If you created a new Apple ID, stop using it immediately.

  • ITunes freezes whenever I try to play any videos

    iTunes 10.7
    Windows 8 64 bit
The moment I try to play a video iTunes locks up. I have to "end task" in the task manager. The only way it will work is in iTunes Safe mode.
I tried disabling Direct3d accel in Quicktime -- did not work.
I completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes using Apple's KB. - did not work
I reverted to older version. - also did not work
I reinstalled video drivers - did not work
Checked for plugins - there are none.
iTunes has basically become unusuable for me. I can't watch any videos.
Can anyone help? I have no idea how to troubleshoot safe mode issues and Apple's KB didn't help.

Do you use audio output via HDMI?
Stereo output via HDMI doesnt work, in this case try to use external (for notebooks internal) speakers and set them as your default audio device.

  • ITunes8 freezing when I try to play music

I've never had a problem with iTunes before, but ever since downloading iTunes 8, I've noticed that it freezes whenever I play music on iTunes. It'll get through a couple of songs, but in the middle of a song an error message will pop up:
    "iTunes 8 has stopped working.

I am on a Windows Vista computer. I've never gotten a "Blue Screen" when itunes freezes. This is a very frustrating problem because when I work on my computer, I'd like to listen to music and not have it freeze. I have plenty of free space (30GB) on my computer and I downloaded the correct version of iTunes (32bit, not 64bit). I don't know why this is happening.

  • ITunes closes when I try to play any video file.

I purchased a movie in the iTunes store. Now when I am in iTunes all the audio files work fine (music, podcasts, etc) but any video file takes me to a black screen and a popup that says "iTunes has stopped working". I tried opening the files in Quicktime media player but received an "unknown error". I was able to to download the movie from the cloud and play it with no problems.
Originally this happened whenever I opened iTunes but after reinstalling it the issue was limited to videos.
I have reset proxy settings in case it was an issue with the iTunes store
I have tried various playback resolutions
I am using windows 8 on an Acer Aspire V3
16 GB RAM and 1 TB HDD
I have update iTunes and Quicktime.

    I need help

Based on what someone else said, I am getting the "rotating ball of eternal sadness".  Yup.  That about describes it.

  • TS3430 iTunes crashes when I try to play any video whatsoever.  I disabled direct3d but this did not work.  I started iTunes in safe mode and it corrected the problem but when I look in the folders mentioned in the troubleshooter there aren't any plug-ins

It is the latest version of iTunes btw.

  • ITunes freezes on me when I try to play music from a CD

When I try to play music from a CD, it will play two tracks in a row fine. After that, the program will freeze and I'll have to exit it. It keeps doing this on me, and even after uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, it still does it. It's weird how it only freezes after playing every two songs.
It also only does this to CDs. It's fine when I play music already downloaded on my computer. I recently updated to the latest version of iTunes, if that might have anything to do with it.

Boy this discussion sure seems useless. Comeon Apple! Time to step up the support! This is where you are weakest as a company.
Well anyway, I have the same problem. My old optical drive in my macbook pro crapped out when I dropped my laptop, so I just installed a brand new drive (UJ-857e), simultaneously with upgrading to Leopard, so it is unfortunately impossible for me to isolate this problem to itunes 7.5 vs. Leopard. It is clearly not a hardware problem however, since the cd's play fine with other audio programs.
So what I can offer as a work-around fix is to suggest you use a different program for audio cd playback than itunes and all should be fine if your hardware is fine. My program of choice is VLC, which in my opinion is the best free program out there for video formats of all kinds (most codecs included) and plays audio fine too.
