Itunes freezes when plug ipod in

hey my ipod has been playing up a bit
it comes up with the unhappy face sign and the folder sign...therefore i have restored it but nothing seems to happen!
now when i plug in my ipod, itunes just freezes and stops working so i have to control alt delete and end the task!
it also came up with the message
iTunes.exe - Device Time out
The sppecified 1/0 operation on \Device\Hardisk1\DR5 was not completed before the timeout period expired.
can anyone help?
many thanks in advance for your help!

I GOT THE SOLUTION
At least for my IMac! As usual, the most stupid thing was underestimated. I started to have the "freezing" trouble when I connected my Ipod Nanop, last month, than my Ipod Video and Mini Ipod too.The strange thing was that befor the Nano, the mini worked well. But, when I bought the Nano (one month before the Video) i simoultaneously bought an hub system (2.0, self-alimented), and I put the cable for the ipod connection into the hub, while with the former mini Ipod was connected directly to my IMac. Today I disconnected the hub, I put the Ipod cable again into the IMac, directly to the Ipod, and everything magically worked perfectly. I copied all my 4.000 songs library in a while, without freezing anything but my fingers (this winter is very cold in Italy!!!!).
Hope to have helped you. tell me....

  • Itunes freezes when my Ipod is connected

Whenever I plug in my ipod, my Itunes freezes. When it does resume running, it wont show my ipod. I know that it is connected becasue it appears under computer, but it wont appear in Itunes. Anyone know what to do? I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

Try restoring the iPod via iTunes. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If your iPod is with in the one-year warrranty, not abused and defective Apple will replace it.

  • ITunes freezes when my iPod is pluged in.

When I plug in my ipod into my computer itunes only freezes, my computer is still functional. when I am listening to music on itunes and I plug in my ipod the music keeps playing, and when I unplug my iPod iTunes unfreezes instantly. What is wrong?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try another cable
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • ITunes freezes when connecting ipod

I just recieved my 60GB iPod video and followed all the instructions exactly as supposed to...
Step 1 was loading the software, which I had no problems with
Step 2 was importing music to my computer, which I already had from my previous iPod
Step 3 was connecting the iPod, this is where I ran into problems!
I connected the iPod and the "Do not disconnect" screen was flashing on the iPod as it should, but iTunes did not open. When I tried to open iTunes myself it was frozen. I also tried to see if the iPod was appearing in windows explorer but that was frozen too. When I disconnected the iPod, iTunes and windows explorer began to run perfectly. I've spent 3 hours reseting, reloading and restarting everything but nothing has worked. Also, my laptop is very new so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. If anyone knows what to do please let me know!

I am having the same problem of my PC freezing when I plug in my 60 Gb iPod. My PC is runnging Windows XP professional. If the iPod is plugged in to the USB port everyting but the mouse freezes. As soon as I unplug the iPod the PC works perfectly. I uninstalled iTunes and the iPod utility and I still have the same freezing problem when the iPod is plugged in. I have a feeling their is a conflict with the iPod and my USB which is USB 1.1. When I plug the iPod into my Sony Vaio laptop everthing works perfectly. I am gooing to get a USB 2.0 and try that next. .

  • ITunes freezing when connecting iPod Touch to it, switching library soon

    Hello,
Soon I will be getting a new computer, and I have recently been starting the process (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US) in which I can move my current iTunes library off my old computer onto my new computer using my iPod. I was down to the "Copy iTunes folder to iPod" step (I did not do the step), when I had to leave, so I saved all my new settings on my iPod Touch and iTunes and disconnected my iPod. When I came back later that day to finnish the process, I plugged my iPod into my computer, and it froze iTunes, but not other windows open on my computer at the time. When I unplugged my iPod, iTunes went back to working like normal. It has been doing this for a few days now, and I have tried many things, which have been proven unsucessful. I really need to start using my new computer, but I don't want to do it without my iTunes library, since after I begin using my new computer, I will no longer have my old one. I need help very fast, and I will appreciate anyone who is willing to give me advise.
    Thank You.

I also have an older version of iTunes. I think it was the last version of 7.

  • ITunes freezes when syncing ipod 10.5.1.42

Everytime I go to sync my ipod to itunes it gets almost finished and itunes freezes up. When itunes freezes so does my entire computer to the point where only the mouse moves, and I end up shutting it down. I'm not sure if it is my computer, ipod, itunes, or other underlying issues. Does anyone have a solution or troubleshooting tips. I have searched the internet all over and this site, but nothing seems to be working. Is it the version? Should I install a previous version of itunes? It seems like some people are having similar issues.

  • ITunes freezes when Ejecting iPod

Every time I try to eject the iPod using one of the two Eject buttons in the iPod menu, iTunes seems to freeze, and I have to Manually Eject the iPod(At least I think its Manually Ejecting the iPod, to go into my coputer and use "Eject" on the shortcut menu)
What could be causing this, and how do I fix it?

I have the same thing.  It started this week.  I have the most recent version of iTunes.  My ipod Touch and iPad Air 2 work fine.  When I eject my (brand new) Nano, the nano ejects, but iTunes freezes.  I have to go and force it to close.
    Help please.

  • ITunes freezes when verifying iPod

My macbook freezes when verifying my ipod on itunes 10.5.

It may help to just wait 10 minutes or so after iTunes has "frozen". This same thing happened to me, it was verifying and crashed. I tried reinstalling, restarting the ipod, etc, etc. It happened about 10 times with me quitting the program through task manager each time it froze. Finally I just decided to let it sit for a while after freezing instead of exiting, and lo and behold, the sync started after about 5 minutes. Try this for now and hopefully Apple will fix this bug eventually.

  • Itunes freezes when syncing ipod classic 160GB

I just downloaded the new itunes 1.6.1 and everytime i try to sync my ipod classic it gets about a tenth of the way through syncing the songs then completely freezes, i have to exit using task manager and it leaves me with no songs on my ipod. I've tried resetting my ipod and such but none of it has worked, i've spent the last 3 hours looking for a solution but there is nothing out there, please help!!!

Try connecting the iPod Classic to a different USB port set (like the ones on the back of your PC), and make sure you're connecting it directly to the PC, not through a USB hub (like the ones built into keyboards or monitors).  If iTunes still freezes, run Windows Update and make sure you update all of the hardware drivers for your PC, especially ones marked "Chipset" or "USB Controller".  Frequently, when iTunes freezes mid-sync with a USB device, it's because of an error with your USB controller or that set of ports.  The steps above should get you syncing properly again.
If that doesn't work, try connecting your iPod Classic to another PC and sync some songs to it.  If iTunes freezes there as well, it may be a problem with your iPod Classic (unlikely, but possible), and would warrant a Genius Bar appointment.
    Hope this helps.

  • Itunes freezes when Syncing ipod

Recently, I have updated to the newest version of Itunes.  When I attempted to sync my ipod (80GB classic), itunes froze.  I had to force a shut down and when my ipod ejected, all the songs were gone.  I managed to get my ipod to restore factory settings, but now it will not sync more than 600 songs.  Once it hits about this threshold, itues freezes and the 'syncing' icon on my ipod switches the the 'connected' icon, but itunes continues to try and sync until it freezes.
I have attempted to add music manually and in different orders to see if it is a particular song causing the crash, but regardless of the order, once it hits about 600 songs, down goes everything.  I have to force a shut down, which effectively erases all the songs, and start over again.
Any thoughts on how to break the 600 barrier?

  • ITunes freezes when connecting iPod Touch - even after restored

    Hi,
I have an iPod Touch 32GB 4th generation, I have never had any problems with it until now.
Today I tried to connect it to my iTunes (on my MacBook Pro - late 2011 model) in order to sync it so that I could transfer some of my new music and iTunes would freeze. The mouse would pinwheel and I would have to force quit (it would not respond for over 30mins if left unattended). I created a new admin user and the itunes on the other user recognised the iPod just fine. I used the other user to restore my iPod in the hopes that when connected to my library again, it would be a 'new' ipod and so it would no longer freeze. Unfortunately this was not the case, despite my library recognising an ipod in recovery mode and being able to restore it (so that I can now at least use it in its most basic form). It has subsequently frozen each time I connect my iPod. How can I fix this? Should I just wait for the next iTunes upgrade?
    Thank you
    Frances

    Hi Frances,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
The sugestions in the article below should help. They will resolve most issues that cause iTunes to stop responding when an iOS device is connected to the computer.
iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3219
    Symptoms
In rare instances, iTunes may become unresponsive when connecting an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your computer. iTunes may become responsive again after you disconnect the device from the computer.
    Resolution
Expand All Sections | Collapse All Sections
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
Install any available software updates for your computer.
For Mac OS X: Click the Apple () menu, choose Software Update, and follow the on-screen instructions.
For Windows: Refer to the documentation for your computer for instructions on using Windows Update to update your computer.
Update iTunes to the latest version.
For Mac OS X: Click the Apple () menu, choose Software Update, and follow the on-screen instructions. You can also download iTunes from the Apple website.
For Windows: Use Apple Software Update, or download iTunes from the Apple website.
Test with automatic syncing disabled.Reconnect your device and test to see if the issue still occurs. If your device is recognized successfully, you may be able to isolate which type of data is causing the issue. Do this by deselecting all syncing options under each of the syncing tabs and then sync. After that, re-enable your sync options one at a time until the issue returns.
Note: If the issue only occurs when syncing data from the Info tab is enabled (For example: Contact, Calendar, Mail account or Bookmark syncing), reset the Sync History (for Mac OS X instructions see this article, for Windows see this article).
For Mac OS X: Click the iTunes menu and choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab and place a check next to option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically." Click OK.
For Windows: Click the Edit menu and choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab and place a check next to option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically." Click OK.
Check your device for podcasts. If there are any podcasts, manually delete all podcast episodes from the device by sliding your finger across the podcast episode's name and tapping Delete. Once all podcasts are removed from your device, reconnect it to the computer, open iTunes, and test.
If possible, test to see if connecting your device to a different computer with the latest version of iTunes installed resolves the issue.
    Test with iTunes plug-ins removed.
    Quit iTunes.
Navigate to the following folder, based on your operating system:
    Windows XP:  C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins
    Windows Vista or Windows 7:  C:\Users\[username]\App Data\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins
    Mac OS X:
~/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins   (The "~" represents your Home folder)
    /Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins
If any files are in this folder, move them to the Desktop temporarily.
Open iTunes and test to see if the issue is resolved. If so, you may leave these iTunes plug-ins removed. If you wish to re-use these iTunes plug-ins, consult the vendor for the iTunes plug-ins to see if any updates are available.
If the issue also occurs on a different computer:
If the issue does not occur on a different computer, or no other computer is available to try:

  • Itunes freezes when verifying ipod when ipod is connected

So yer my itunes has frozen as soon as i connect my ipod. Constantly telling me it is 'verifying' .. problem is the 'verifying' never ends.. does anyone have a solution for this?

  • ITunes freezes when plugging in phone with podcasts

I have an issue where anytime I plug in my iPhone 3GS, iTunes will freeze if I have any Podcasts that I had downloaded separately to my phone. If I delete the podcasts the phone, I'm fine -- but I'd rather not have to delete my podcasts every time I want to sync.
I have "manually mange music" checked for my phone. Is this part of the problem?

My workflow is to never download anything from the iTunes store, app or otherwise, directly into my iPhone.

  • ITunes freezes when updating iPod

I am using a 60 GB iPod video. I recently lost my library in iTunes but I simply added the folder that contained all of my albums back to iTunes and made a few adjustments and it's back to normal. Still, I know the iPod recognizes it as a different library so I wanted to update it.
I go to do this and it gives me the usual "___'s iPod is synced with another library, would you like to delete the current library and replace it with this iTunes library?" or something long those lines so I click "Erase and sync" and it seems like it's updating but iTunes just freezes. It's done this three times including once after a restart.
I'm really becoming frustrated with iTunes as of late so I hope someone has a quick fix for this problem.

    It worked on 4th attempt.
