Itunes freezes when synching with ipod

When I connect my ipod to synchronize my itunes library it starts to synchronize then very soon freezes. Not even force quit closes itunes. This is very strange as this never used to happen and I have updated neither my ipod nor itunes. Can anyone help?

Do you have any Disk Scanning software on your computer? if so, what program (is it McAffee?)
Also, have you tried turning your firewall and all security and internet security settings to OFF? (after closing iTunes)
After doing that, connect your iPod and open iTunes. See if turning off the firewall helps.

  • Itunes freezes when syncing with ipod

My itunes is freezing when i try to sync with itunes. Manual management does not cause freezing, but automatic syncing causes it to freeze after five or fewer podcasts / songs are transferred. The ipod is brand new, and ready to use. I've tried all the normal steps, such as reinstalling software, ect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the response. I have installed, reinstalled the latest itunes, ran the diagnostics, looked through troubleshooting guides and forums before posting on this forum. Aside from Itunes freezing up in automatic syncing, both itunes and ipod seems to run normally.
Could this be a problem with the library or some type of miscellaneous file? Any suggestions?

  • ITunes freezes when synching with iTouch

When attempting to sync, iTunes repeatedly freezes and I have to "Force Quit." I'm running the latest version of iTunes (on MacBook w/ OS 10.5.6). Have re-installed iTunes to no avail. Tried to restore but it crashes while connecting to iTunes. Tried on a friend's computer and crashed his iTunes.
Any thoughts? Otherwise the iTouch is working fine, but I can't sync to any Mac using iTunes.

  • ITunes freezes when syncing with iPhone, but works fine with iPod?

It's a bit of a long story with my iPhone/iTunes problem. In late July, my iPhone stopped syncing properly. It's an iPhone 4. Basically, I tried to add more photo albums to sync onto my phone, something I have done before. It began syncing, then notified me that it couldn't sync 'x' amount of photos. It was a pop up on my phone screen. I tried deleting my cache in My Pictures, still errors. Then it seems like everything possible has just glitched when I sync as weeks went on. It wouldn't sync music. The songs would appear gray and failed to play. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it doesn't. Now, iTunes freezes when it reaches the end of the sync and I have to ctrl+alt+del to close iTunes as it stops working.
I took my iPhone to apple, and she ran diagnostics and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. She told me she couldn't run diagnostics on my iTunes because it's a Windows laptop and she's "not trained to work with them". She said everything seemed fine with my iPhone and asked if it was possible if I have a virus. I've had no other problems with my laptop whatsoever and I have a decent virus protector that we pay for monthly.
I have tried restoring my phone twice, with a backup. I tried again WITHOUT a backup, and still, it freezes when it syncs, some songs are gray on my iPhone and won't play, and photos refuse to sync, period.
I then tried syncing my dad's iPod with my iTunes, and it worked. I also tried syncing my iPhone on my dad's laptop, and it worked. So something is clearly glitching between specifically my phone and my iTunes. I'm avoiding uninstalling iTunes at all costs because I don't want to lose play count information as the majority of my playlists are created this way. I thought iOs 7 or iTunes 11 (now 11.1) would fix it, but neither did.
Can anyone determine what the problem could be and how to fix it?

  • Itunes freezes when connecting and ipod does not show up

When I connect my nano 3rd gen in windows vista using itunes 9 my ipod does not show up and itunes freezes. the ipod remains with the connected screen and I cannot close out of itunes. Any help would be wonderful... Thanks!!

I have (finally)solved the problem with my iTunes freezing! Here's what I did:
1.I backed up my entire music library to an external hard drive.
2.Then I completely uninstalled iTunes 9 from my computer.
3.After a re-boot I then completely deleted my entire music library. (this can be a little scary so I double checked my music library back up on the external drive)
4.I Googled iTunes 8 and found it at
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/06/28/apple-itunes-8-2-and-quicktime-7-6-2-di rect-download-links/
    5. I downloaded it but before I installed it I copied my music library back to my computer. I did not copy everything that was in my original iTunes music folder however, I only copied the music, album art work, applications, games,Tv shoes, and podcasts folders. I placed those folders in a new folder called iTunes on my computer. I did not include any of the iTunes database files eg: .itl / .xml / or .itdb files as these were created in iTunes 9.
    6. Now I opened iTunes 8.2 and added all of my music and other media content.
    7. Next I attached my iPod nano to my computer. Then Windows automaticly open a window asking me if I wanted to scan for problems or continue without scanning. I had windows scan for problems and once that was done my iPod nano began to sync. Oh what joy!
I think, and this is only a guess based on what I've read here on Apple's discussion pages and my own experience, that there is a problem/conflict or bug with iTunes 9, Windows Vista and the 3rd -4th generation iPod. I will NOT be upgrading to iTunes 9 until Apple has addressed this issue. It seems to me that there are a lot of people having similar issues.

  • ITunes No Longer Synching With iPods, Not Connecting with iTunes Store

iPods: both iPod touch, 2nd Generation, 8GB
    iTunes: (Most Recent Version)
    Issue:
For a while, the iPods of myself and a family member have not been able to synch our iPods with iTunes anymore: when plugged in, it only appears to charge, does not show up in "Devices", does not do anything. I've run Diagnostics several times, tried redownloading iTunes, & checked settings, etc.
Also, whenever I try to go into iTunes Store, it says that it "Cannot connect to iTunes Store", even if connection to the internet is fine.
These problems started occurring simultaneously, as well as out of no where. As I recall, I had no problem synching & going into iTunes Store the day before.

Ask your other family members if they did. Something has to have changed.
I am betting it's something on the PC, since two ipods going bad at the same time would be highly unlikely.
If you have auto updates turned on for Windows & security software, it might not even be obvious they occurred.
You can try restarting your modems/routers/and PC, in that order.

  • How I fixed the iTunes "freezing when synching" problem

My version of iTunes (the latest version) would freeze whenever I tried to synch. I ran a virus check (found 3 viruses and cleaned them), then I restored my iPod in iTunes, which erases all the music off the iPod. Then I synched the iPod and the problem is gone. Not sure if this will work for you, but it did for me. Good luck.

your welcome, all of you. But there is a sad part ot this...
I noticed that the only option that worked for me was Windows 2000 and that the others (Windows 98/ME, Windows 95, and Windows NT) did not work. This leads me to believe that with more and more updates coming, sooner or later Windows 2000 will be obsolete to the iTunes software.
I know a lot of people who prefer Windows 98 and 2000 over XP because of modibility and hacking ability. So for Windows to essentially throw 98 out the window and not care to make iTunes compatible with it is pretty stupid. I highly doubt those Win98 users want to shell out about $100 to upgrade just to use a free program.
Just another piece of evidence in my theory that Apple is fading out Windows to coax people into buying more Macs.
    .....Le Sad....

  • Itunes freezes when synching genius

Help!  iTunes freezes my PC when I launch it.  I've repaired it, uninstalled and reinstalled. I think there may be a registry key I need to remove in order to truly wipe if off my PC. I am unable to access my iTunes Library.  It launches but when the program gets to a portion where it says it's synching Genius preferences (which I do not want nor care about) it freezes and I have to remove the battery of my laptop in order to reboot the computer. Any ideas?  I have the latest version of iTunes.

  • Damaged music files when synched with Ipod

    Hi
I have a Mac Book Pro, and an 80GB Ipod Video. When I synch between Ipod and Itunes, some of the music tracks get damaged. Parts of the songs dont play properly for a few seconds then revert back to normal. I assume this is when it is being written to the Ipod disc, but how do I ensure seemless transfer?
    thx

    OK,
After hours of working on this I beleive I have figured out how the iPod organizes photos if your a syncing it with a windows directory.
The iPod uses the order in which the opertating system stores the photos in the file directory. What this means is renaming the files has no impact.
However, if you rename them in the order you want them, then do a select All, which is normally control-A, then drag them to a new folder, the operating system will then copy them by their alphabetic name into the new folder (You may have to be view the original folder sorted by name.)
Now in this new folder the operating system has stored them in the file system in the same order as they were named.
Now set the iPod photo sync directory to this directory and it should work.
Here is a second tip. There is an awesome shareware utility called irfanview www.irfanview.com This utility will allow you to rename an entire group of files with, for example, the date the pictures were shot.
After renaming, do a select all and copy to a new directory. Then link the iPod to this new directory and you will have the photos on your iPod in the order they were shot.
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE IF APPLE JUST TOLD US THIS!

  • ITunes freezes when transferring to iPod Nano (2nd gen)

Hi All - Slightly atypical issue. I purchased a refurbished 2nd-gen iPod nano, but am having continued difficulty getting music onto it. I am not auto-synching but adding them manually.
The nano connects fine, iTunes sees it fine. However, when I start transferring songs, iTunes will randomly freeze up. What's strange is that I CANNOT shut iTunes down, even trying to end-task in Task Manager. I have to hard reboot my system, and as soon as the freeze happens, the iPod loses the "DO NOT DISCONNECT" screen and returns to the menu, as if the connection has been broken.
As of Today, October 21st 2007 I am running the most current versions of both iTunes as well as the iPod software.
Any advice? I have a very large (130GB+) iTunes library that I've painstakingly manicured to include all obscure artwork, correct genres, etc so I'd rather avoid re-installing everything from scratch.
Thanks in advance! This is driving me crazy!

I have the same problem on my nano (gen 1). I have done everything it says in the book, and nothing helps. I have restored several times, but it seems to make no difference. Sometimes everything is recorded, sometimes hardly anything. At this moment it made it through about 3/4 of my songs and has stalled. I don't even know if the Itunes program needs reinstalling or my Ipod is at fault.
I find it hard to believe this problem is not on the trouble shooting list.

  • ITunes freezes when i connect iPod?!

I've had my iPod one week - one week!!! - and already something has gone wrong.
iTunes works fine when I'm just listening to music or what have you, but when I plug in my iPod, within a few minutes the iTunes freezes. iPod says not to disconnect, I have no choice but to, and have to alt-control-delete to get rid of iTunes.
iPod seems normal....plays fine when I'm using it and stuff. Basically they work fine independently but when I connect them, it all goes wrong.
So is it the iPod or the iTunes that's poorly, and how do I fix it?! Please help!
    Lucy. x

OKay, I've somehow managed to fix this problem (not sure how, changed the settings I think) but in doing so I've managed to wipe my iPod, and when I tried to put music back on, half the music has suddenly got exclamation marks by them and won't play.
    What have I done?!

  • Itunes freezing when synching

itunes freezes and the message in the itunes activity box is "Finding Purchased items on XXXXX's iPad"

Hi, I found a solution to our problem.
1st- erase iBooks that seems to be the one to blame for all our trouble
    2nd- back up iPhone
3rd- disconnect your iPhone from your computer and go to Settings/General/Reset/ and Erase all Content and Settings
4th- re connect to computer. Itunes will ask you if you want to configure it as a new device or restore from back up. Restore from your back up.
Result. You have you Iphone free of iBook trouble and ok to sync again.
This is what I did and worked from me.. hope it does for you too.
    Bests
