Itunes freezes when transferring purchases from ipad

Can 't trasfer purchases or syng my ipad with itunes, it just freezes

Hey there wbh1967,
If I understand correctly when you are trying to transfer your apps and content from your iPad to your computer, iTunes quits unexpectedly every single time but your iPhone works without issue. To start troubleshooting the software on the iPad,  I would start by quitting all the running apps on the device:
iOS: Force an app to close
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that reset the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes and then restore it as a new device and verify that it works.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.
You can always download your purchased apps from the iTunes store to your computer directly using the "Download previous purchases on Mac or PC" section from this article:
Download past purchases
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,
Sterling

  • ITunes freezes when importing music from CD and also when playing,

Just recently iTunes has started to freeze when importing music from a CD - it just stops and the progress bar remains as it it. The whole mac then freezes and I get the spinning beachball. I can't use any other application. The same thing is happening when I play music - it's ok for a song or two and then freeze and the beachball appears. I've downloaded iTunes again and reinstalled and it's just the same. Using Safari and Mail etc is no problem at the moment.
I also have a problem getting the iMac to recognise external hard drives - it won't show them on either firewire 400 or 800. I can see my 1TB drive using usb ( it shows up on the desktop, whereas on firewire it doesn't do this) but if I try to open it and see the contents in finder, it opens, but doesn't dispaly the contents of the drive. I can see the disk size but just get a grey spinning wheel in the bottom right hand of the finder window. Timemachine does not work.

I have had the same problem & itunes crashes when i try to import a file. Now i can't even start itune. I've reinstalled itunes so many times, without a fix, I've lost count.
I did post and had no reply. I'll watch this post with interest.

  • Itunes 9.2 Not transferring purchases from iPad to Laptop

I've never had a problem transferring applications from Iphone -> iPhone 3G -> iPhone 3GS -> iPad. But today, when I was attempting to transfer my applications to the iPhone 4, they did not appear.
2 Hours of troubleshooting (and a few calls to apple), I've discovered the following:
    1) The applications are not being synced onto the laptop. This can be detected in two (2) ways - first, there is an exclamation mark beside the app, missing artwork (seen through the iTunes Library / Apps Screen) - Second, Get Info displays an error message, "The applications could not be used, because the original file could not be found", finally, the "Mobile Applications" directory on my laptop doesn't have the file. It really isn't being transferred onto my laptop.
I've tried the following diagnostic steps
    1) Power Cycle Everything.
    2) Right Click on the Device, and click on "Transfer Purchases" (though Apple swears this should be automatic)
I am able to download the applications onto my iPhone 4, and I'm not charged for them - but, getting them onto the iPhone 4 that way will probably take me the next four - five hours of determining which ones are missing, and downloading them one at a time.
Anybody else run into this problem and come up with an innovative solution?

  • Itunes freezes when transfering books in iBook

I've been having a problem with transfering .epub file format books or .pdf file books in to ibooks via itunes. Whenever i drag and drop any .pdf file or any .epub file itunes freezes and doesn't respond. It happens when im deleting a particiluar book from ibooks via itunes as well. Itunes stops responding while its "Updating" files on the ipod touch.
I have an ipod touch 4th generation running the latest os. iO5
I've attached a screenshot so you can see exactly what im seeing, please help.

Browsing these discussions will probably give you some hints.
More Powerbook and iBook users have the same problem.
Many of them could solve it by letting the CD 'spin down' (could take a minute or 2) and then running iTunes.

  • Different iTunes Accounts and Transferring Purchases from Apple TV

I'm having difficulty transferring purchases made on the Apple TV to the Synced iTunes. Here are the details:
    - This is the case with Purchased TV Shows and Purchased Movies.
    - Purchases made on Apple TV, with iTunes Account #1 (Mine) DO NOT transfer to the Synced iTunes on the iMac.
    - Purchases made on Apple TV, with iTunes Account #2 (Wife) DO transfer to Synced iTunes on the iMac automatically.
    - I have tried all combinations of Authorizing and De-authorizing Account #1 and Account #2 on the Synced iMac, both individually and combined.
    - Music, Movies, and TV Shows authorized to Account #1 (Mine) DO transfer from Synced iTunes to the Apple TV when Account #1 is Authorized on the Synced iTunes.
    - Both Accounts were Authorized on the iMac iTunes when the initial sync happened.
Any thoughts or experiences about why only one set of purchases transfers back to the Synced iTunes from the Apple TV? My next action will likely be to Re-Sync the Apple TV to another computer (MacBook Pro or G5) with both accounts authorized on the different machine to see what happens. I'll take suggestions before spending the time syncing.
    Thanks!
    Erik

    Ian:
A good thought, however It didn't work with either Account #1, Account #2, or No Accounts logged into the store.
I think the next step will be total re-connect of the Apple TV and the iMac. Items purchased on Account #2 that did sync to transfer back to the iMac should be safe as we have the files in the iTunes Library. Hopefully we'll get the rest of the items purchased on Account #1.
    Thanks
    Erik

  • My Itunes freezes when i connect my Ipad. Help?

I have a 3rd gen Ipad with version  6.1.3 installed and Itunes 11.0.2.26 installed. I am trying to connect my ipad to my laptop (windows 7). Each time I connect the USB cable, Itunes recognizes the ipad and trys to connect to it. As it trys Itunes freezes and i canot do anything. (if i am listening to music it wil continue until that song is done) The rest of my computer is fine and not frozen. Itunes will eventually get to the point where it will show a little picture of the ipad instead of the circular loading symbol. But at that point itunes is completely frozen and i can't even open any menus. If i then unplug the ipad, itunes will free up like nothing happened. i have tried reinstalling itunes, restarting my computer, resetting the device manager, restarting my ipad, tried all of my USB ports, tried connecting with my Wireless internet disconnected, and probably a few more things i can't think of, oh and when i run the diagnostics, it tells me that there is no ipad detected. And when i am plugged in, my ipad charges for a split second then says it is not charging in the top right corner. Help?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • ITunes freezes when I connect my iPad, what is causing this?

My iPad continuously boots me out of my apps when i try and use them, Someone suggested I clean it and refill it. My problem is that when I connect it to my PC to sync it with iTunes, my iTune software freezes. I can click on anything with no result. As soon as I disconnect the iPad the last command I gave it responds.
Here is what I tried already:
I ran a dianogtics test on iTunes while the iPad was disconnected and everything is fine.
I ran it with the iPad connected (I hit the test button seconds after I connected the iPad) and everything is still fine. it even stated that my iPad was connected.
I made sure my iTunes has the latest version.
I also checked the iPad for any updates and it stated it was up to date.
I made sure there was no apps running on the iPad hen I connected it.
I tested my PC for any problems and there was none, including my internet connection.
On the iTunes screen it shows my iPad connected, but, just like every other command, it will not respond when I click on it.
    Please someone help.

Is iTunes freezing on the iPad or on your computer?
Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • ITunes Freezes when transfering a CD

As soon as I upgraded to iTunes 6 it freezes when I try to transfer songs from my CD. I spent 3 hours with a genius at the Apple Store to no avail. The phone tech guy had no clue and never heard of iTunes freezing, I think they all need to start reading the forum topics. There is obviously a problem but I don't see any useful information. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

  • My iTunes freezes when trying to sync iPad

This appears to be happening when I open iTunes on my iMac and it attempts to connect and sync to either iPad in the house.  If the iPads are off and they don't try to connect, iTunes opens and works normal.  When I turn the iPads on and the attempt to connect wirelessly, then iTunes freezes.  This only began after the last update. Can anyone help me?

Sorry, this is my italian version. I tried to disinstall, clean and reinstall but it's no use.
    My OS is Windows 7.

    HI,
    Try force quitting an application.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake for a few seconds until a red slider appears, then
press and hold the Home button until the application you were using quits.
If that doesn't help, turn iPad off, and then turn it on again. Press and hold the
Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears, then drag the slider. Then press and
hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Hope this helps,,,

  • ITunes freezes when transferring to iPod Nano (2nd gen)

Hi All - Slightly atypical issue. I purchased a refurbished 2nd-gen iPod nano, but am having continued difficulty getting music onto it. I am not auto-synching but adding them manually.
The nano connects fine, iTunes sees it fine. However, when I start transferring songs, iTunes will randomly freeze up. What's strange is that I CANNOT shut iTunes down, even trying to end-task in Task Manager. I have to hard reboot my system, and as soon as the freeze happens, the iPod loses the "DO NOT DISCONNECT" screen and returns to the menu, as if the connection has been broken.
As of Today, October 21st 2007 I am running the most current versions of both iTunes as well as the iPod software.
Any advice? I have a very large (130GB+) iTunes library that I've painstakingly manicured to include all obscure artwork, correct genres, etc so I'd rather avoid re-installing everything from scratch.
Thanks in advance! This is driving me crazy!

I have the same problem on my nano (gen 1). I have done everything it says in the book, and nothing helps. I have restored several times, but it seems to make no difference. Sometimes everything is recorded, sometimes hardly anything. At this moment it made it through about 3/4 of my songs and has stalled. I don't even know if the Itunes program needs reinstalling or my Ipod is at fault.
I find it hard to believe this problem is not on the trouble shooting list.

  • How do I PREVENT transferring purchases from iPad to Mac?

I have limited space on my MacBook air, I don't not want my iPad purchases transferring.  How can I stop this?

I sync (over wifi) my ipad3 to my 2011 MBA (running mountain lion) to transfer photos from iphoto on my mac.
Unfortunately every time I do that iTunes tries to transfer my purchased videos from my ipad back to my mac. If I dont sync and use iCloud (which I do for everything else) how do I transfer the iPhoto albums?
I don't want to use dropbox to manually copy albums from iPhoto nor is possible to send photos from a mac to an  ipad using photostream yet, correct?
Is there a solution, apart from waiting for new version of iTunes which will finally realise that people use iCloud for purchases???
(of course the video sync box if OFF on iTunes but it still wants to transfer the purchases).

  • Screen sometimes freezes when transferring to/from external hard drive

I have a brand-new macbook pro 15" (standard settings). Ever since I've taken it out of the box it's been having this intermittent problem where the screen freezes. The first time it happened was when I was migrating my files from my time machine backup. I didn't make much of it then but it has kept happening for the last 3 weeks or so since I got the computer.
When it happens I can still move the cursor around the screen but nothing responds. I can't close or quit anything, or even force quit. The only thing that works is to restart the computer using the power button. This has led to me losing work on more than one occasion (VERY frustrating). I've tried leaving it for a while to see if it eventually 'wakes up'. It doesn't. I've checked the hard drive and other hardware and haven't found any errors. I've installed all software updates.
All I've figured out is that this seems to happen when I'm transferring large amounts of data to or from an external hard drive. It happens with several different drives, which work fine on other computers, so it's not just the case of one malfunctioning external hard drive. It doesn't happen consistently either - sometimes transferring the same info later on works fine.
Has anyone had similar problems and/or (even better) found a solution? I'm planning to ring apple support once they're open and will update this if I find out anything else.

    Tia,
Songs transfer to the iPod form iTunes. iTunes can obtain the song files from any location: main HD, secondary HD, ExHD.
You need to get the song files on the ExHD recognized by iTunes. Then you just need to sync the iPod to iTunes.
This is the high-level explanation. If you need more info, read the links below and/or post back.
