ITunes freezes when trying to upgrade iPod touch software

I just purchased the iPod upgrade software, the iPhone 2.2 software upgrade. As iTunes is backing up my iPod touch, it freezes before it can finish the job. This has happened 3 times now, and I am still unable to update my iPod version.

Sorry. I just needed to restart my MacBook.

  • Itunes freezes when trying to sync Ipod Touch

    Hi,
I have just installed the lastest version of itunes (11.2.2.3) after having issues with installing I finally cracked it with help fromn the support forum.
I am now trying to sync my Ipod touch and everytime i try and sync itunes locks up and have to end task in windows task manager.
any ideas on how the fix this?? im running windows 8.1 and have had no issues syncing till instlling the new update.
    any suggestions greatly recived.
    Cheers

    Yes.
The same thing has happened to me. After the hideous update they did a couple of months ago I didn't think they would mess things up like this again. And why, I, as a costumer have to go to all the trouble to create another account to see if the problems persist? If they weren't there in the first time, why should I struggle to fix it? It's APPLE's product and it should respond to the costumer's needs. I guess the best solution is not to install the upcoming updates.

  • Computer freezes when trying to sync ipod touch

I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 64 bit and I'm not sure if I had this problem. I have the 64 bit version of itunes downloaded and I got a new 32gb ipod touch for christmas today. I plugged it in and set it all up and when it goes to sync, it shows that it gets to the 5th song out of like 500? songs I have and my whole computer freezes. I have my itunes setup so that it gets my songs from my external hard drive. I don't know if that would be a problem by trying to send my songs from my hard drive to my computer and then to my ipod. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

i am having some success with my touch now by right clicking on the itunes icon and selecting, troubleshoot compatibility, troubleshoot program, program worked on earlier versions, then select, win vista service pack2. this is probably not a permenant fix but for the time being it seems to work. hope you have some joy with your setup. • ITunes freezes when I plug my iPod Touch 4 in and it won't sync.

    Ok guys,
So recently, I have had MAJOR problems with my iPod touch (not jailbroken) and they're driving me INTO INSANITY!!! So, a few weeks ago, I added a movie I downloaded onto my iTunes. All **** broke loose from there. At first I wasn't able to sync. My iPod was detected but it wouldn't sync unless I restored it. Later, it began to not sync unless I plugged it into my computer without iTunes up. iTunes began to freeze and become unresponsive. When it froze, it would began to actually sync, just not say. Then it began to not sync at all, and now I can't do anything.
I am at my witts end. I am deperate. I have tried averything under the sun from deleteing practically everything on my iTunes to updating iTunes to trying to reset Bonjour. Down below are links to every problem I have. They keep piling on each other to where I can't find just one post to describe. And these people decribe it better than I do. Can anyone help? I don't want to have to reset iTunes or re-install. I have precious apps that NEED to be backed up.

I forgot to mention, whenever it does sync, it just gets stuck staying "verrifying ipod".
Try having that topped off with freezing.

  • My itunes freezes when i connect my ipod touch?

I have had my 4th gen. 8GB iPod Touch for about 8 months now. It has worked perfectly, up until now. When i plug my iPod in, iTunes finds it( after about 30 seconds) and it just shows the little icon showing that it's syncing, or loading. It keeps doing that, and when I click on it nothing happens. I cannot access my iPod at all and i tried reseting it but that didn't help. It just deleted all my music so now im screwed. I have updated iTunes to the latest, as well as my ipod to iOS 5.1.1. I have reset my computer, reinstalled iTunes, but nothing helps. If anyone has experianced this, I need help. Thanks.

Try placing the iPod in Recovery mode and connecting to your computer and restoring via iTunes.

  • Itunes freezes when trying to sync ipod

this started to happen when i had to re-install itunes because they deleted all my content. it was the old version anyways, so i installed the latest version. now, whenever i connect the ipod into my computer and itunes detects it, itunes freezes and my new content doesn't get synced. the battery sign on my ipod shows that it's connected, but itunes doesn't respond to anything i do. Only after i disconnect my ipod does itunes start working again. any suggestions?

My 80GB ipod and itunes also freeze during sync. I tried resetting ipod, had Best Buy restore ipod, and have an extended warranty with Best Buy-they sent in my ipod and I got a replacement ipod. I have already checked my anti-virus and have scanned my computer for any problems, which none came up. So my laptop and ipod are good. Did not have any problems with ipod or itunes until I got the new update for itunes 9.2. The problem is with itunes updates, now I have an ipod with no music and cannot sync my music back into it. If they can't fix this, I will get rid of this ipod and never buy any apple products ever again.

  • Itunes freezes when trying to insert IPOD

    Hello all,
We are trying to restore a click shell IPOD (+ HP). When Itunes is running and the IPOD is inserted in the base attached via USB to the computer (Dell D620), Itunes freezes thus preventing the restoration. I have tried to deinstall Itunes and reinstall but no luck. Any ideas?

Since no one has replied to my requests, I will reply to myself.
It turns out that the IPOD may have had really bad stiction.
I got it restored using the origninal HP+IPOD CD installer. But then when trying to get all 485 songs downloaded in Itunes it got to about 147 and hung. So, I "carefully" tapped the sides of the IPOD actually harder than many times before. I then did a soft reset on the IPOD and started to download the 485 songs again from Itunes. This time it worked with no problems. Now, the question is whether it will hold up this time or start "sticking" again.

  • ITunes freezes when trying to restore ipod

    Hi guys
At the moment whenever i plug my ipod in itunes says it is in recovery mode and needs to be restored.
Once i restore it and the ipod resets though, itunes freezes completely and wont shut down from task manager.
To open it again I need to restart the entire computer but when I try again it goes back to the start and is just going around in loops.
    Any ideas?
    thanks

Did the problem start after installing Windows 7 SP1, there have been numerous reports of iTunes freezing connected in some way with USB.
I don't have a solution at the moment although it might be possible to find more with Google.
Some people have resorted to uninstalling SP1.
Here is an example of what can be found:

  • ITunes freezes when trying to disconnect iPod

It is a strange behavior. I can sync my iPod. But when i am trying to disconnect it iTunes will freeze. I need to disconnect the iPod over the windows taskbar, then it works.
    Anyone got an idea?
    Best regards
    hj

Thanks Nigel. I have certainly tried the suggestions on that Apple page and the situation now has somewhat gone back to normal - but I think what made the most difference was the brute-force approach of dropping the iPod at waist level on a carpet that is making the rounds on some forum posts. That, and leaving the iPod alone for a while, look like it did the trick... don't ask me how or why that happens, and I certainly don't condone this "technique"... but hey, can dozens of iPod owners be wrong?

  • ITunes freezing when trying to sync iPod...

This problem just recently started, but I can't fix and need help! Whenever I try and sync my iPod it syncs maybe a few songs and then freezes, then if try and force quit iTunes or eject my iPod my entire computer freezes and I have to force restart my computer. It has been fine until about a couple days ago, I don't know if it's my iPod or what, I've thought about reverting it then trying to sync it again, but I don't want to do that and then not have anything on it if it doesn't sync, so that is my last resort. I've seen some other people are having the same problem but haven't seen many solutions...any help would be appreciated!

I am also having a very simalar problem but i am glad to hear it is also happening to someone else.
I still haven't been able to decide what the actuall reson for this problem is, for a while i thought it may have been an "intel problem" as one of my frends kindly put it, but i am now lead to belive that it is a problem with the auto sync.
For a temporary solution i have been updating my ipod manually but even then it does frezze occasionaly. So i would be very intersted if anyone has any solutions or resons why it happens.

  • ITunes freezing when trying to synch iPod?

I'm using Windows Vista, I've had the iPod Classic 80gb for a couple months now with no problem, but last night and this morning whenever I try to connect the iPod itunes just freezes all together and will not synch, I can use it without the ipod connected, but if I start itunes up with the ipod already connected I can't even use it.
So far I've tried rebooting, reinstalling itunes, and restoring my system back to Thursday and still nothing works, I did notice it downloaded a new driver for the iPod is that it? otherwise what can I do to get it working again?

Urbandmythx has an excellent suggestion. First try unplugging ALL devices except keyboard, mouse and iPod and see if it acts any differently.
Next, you might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes without lock up...
    Putting iPod into Disk Mode
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Finally, I assume Vista has some sort of "Safe Mode" you can boot into? Try that and then connect the iPod. If it does not freeze up, that would rule out a hardware issue somewhere and instead point to a software or driver conflict of some sort.
    Good luck,
    Patrick

  • ITunes freezing when trying to sync iPod Classic 160

    System stuff
    MacBook Pro OSX 10.5.8
    iTunes 10.6.1 (7)
    iPod Classic 160g
This iPod is only music, no photos, podcasts, movies, anything else.
I have had no issues syncing my iPod on my MacBook Pro, until the last two times, both times coinciding with iTunes updates.
The first time i had an issue, I got error messages telling me the disk couldnt be written to, and told me to restore the disk. I did this, and after 3 times it restored and synced successfully.
Yesterday I began to sync and it worked, but was going extremely slow. In aabout 3 hours it had added about 600 songs out of 2200. (Now I know its a big sync, but I often add a lot of music at once. It's my job.) After it got that far, iTunes froze. I force closed iTunes and that ejected the iPod. I lt it rest a few minutes, restarted my computer, and plugged in the iPod again. iTunes opened, it started syncing and then froze while determining tunes to sync. So I force quit, unplugged the iPod, opened iTunes and set to not automatically sync. Plugged the iPod back in, and restored the disk. Ive done this a dozen times, at least.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.
    Thank you in advance!!

  • Upgraded to 10.5 on windows 7.  now itunes freezes when trying to download old apps.  any solutions?

10.5 upgrade erased apps & books from ipad.  itunes freezes when trying to download from windows 7 computer.  Any suggestions?

I am using Window Vista 32bit and have the same problem. After trying uninstall, reinstall, ccclean registry, over and over again and still cannot install itune 10.5. And finally concluded that this might be a registry corruption problem. The following steps is what I did to fix the registry isssue and get my itune 10.5 installed.
    - Run Window update - and check the history file, if you see some failures in previous updates, there is something wrong with the registry.
    - un-install all the apple related software (itune, safari, boujour, apple update, etc).
    - For Vista 32bit, go to the following link and run the script to clean up the registry. I am not sure if other WIndow OS will work or not.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-Error-8000FFFF
    - run the Fix-it script. you have to select the Agressive mode (even thou the pop up window advise not to do this)  in order to clean up the registry. When I try without checking the box, and it did not fix the problem.
    - reboot PC
    - Run window update. It will discover a lot of old updates that need to be installed (I suspect that the fix it script delete a lot of stuff in the registry and removed previous updates). I got 53 updates that need to install.
    - run the update and wait for a longtime (mine took ~2 hours).
    - reboot PC
    - run cccleaner
    - reboot PC
    - install itune 10.5
Now it works. Hopefully other window OS has similar step to fix this. I can only say it works for me using window Vista 32bit. and so far, my PC works correctly.
