ITunes freezes whenever I try to open it

I installed the latest version of iTunes (7.3.1) and QuickTime. According to Apple Software Update, both of these programs are up-to-date. However, iTunes freezes when I try to listen to my music library by clicking on a song. I have already uninstalled and installed iTunes & QuickTime several times to no avail. Is anyone experiencing the same problem as I am?
Any suggestions?

Solved my own problem by dumping all of the newly imported files in the trash and emptying the trash. Twas a case of overload it seems.

Hi my MacBook is freezing whenever I try to open an application. I have tried resetting the system management controller, however no success. How can I wipe my hardrive and reinstall it again. PS: I no longer have the installation CDs, can I download it from Apple?

To get replacement installation disks, call Apple.  Have the serial number of your MBP ready and a credit card.  There is a fee.
    Ciao.

  • ITunes Freezes when I try to open it

I've been having issues with my MacBook since upgrading to Leopard. I eventually had to perform an "erase and install," but first backed up my files on CDs. In particular, using a feature on iTunes, I backed up my 4000+ iTunes library on approximately 30 CDs. A while back I previously used these CDs to "restore" my library when I had to erase my hard drive a few months ago (prior to my installation of Leopard).
I was only on the second CD during my restoration when the progress indicator just stopped transferring the songs to my library. Unfortunately I cannot remember the exact circumstances under which I stopped the process, but I did abort it after the second CD. Now, whenever I attempt to open iTunes, the window pops up showing my library, then my cursor turns into the multi-colored pinwheel (I can access the dock and desktop, its just a pinwheel with iTunes). In the window that normally displays song information, it says that it is attempting to connect to the iTunes Store, but it never connects. This goes on as long as I let it. Sometime I am able to force quit, and other times I am forced to reboot using the power button.
At first I obviously tried rebooting, then I read these forums and tried a few things to check the disk, including pressing Apple+S during boot up to bring the command screen and ran "fsck -fy." It check my disk and said it was fine. Then, using disk utility, I verified the disk (no problems). Next I verified disk permissions, and everything was normal except this:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
When I repaired permissions it gave me the same message.
Are these problems related? Do I need to do an erase and install again... is that even normal to have to do about 3 times in 6 months?
One last thing, I recently used software upgrade to download and install 10.5.1. As had happened to me before I even upgraded to Leopard, the process was not successful, and I had to manually download and install the upgrade (which worked). Like I said, this was not the first time this has happened on this machine, although the last time it happened was with the last release of 10.4, and I have since upgraded to Leopard, and erased my HD at least once. Sometimes I wish I had never upgraded from by PowerBook G4...

    try these user tips:
try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.
and, if you have flip4mac installed
I found that the TSLicense plugin was causing the problem.
    From the log:
    PlugIn Path: /Library/Frameworks/TSLicense.framework/Versions/A/TSLicense
    PlugIn Identifier: net.telestream.license
This pIugin is installed with the Flip4Mac Windows Media Components. I solved the problem by uninstalling the WM Components via the uninstaller at /Applications/Flip4Mac/Flip4Mac WMV Uninstaller.pkg, after which iTunes opens successfully.

  • Itunes crashes whenever I try and open the store

Hello, and this is my first post. For a day or so now I cant get into the itunes store, and when I try to it crashes and I get a report generated that starts like this:

Well, now we know it's something likely system-wide. Try a few things:
1.) Completely disable your anti-virus software. Maybe even experiment with uninstalling it temporarily.
2.) If you are connected to the internet via a router, disconnect it and connect directly via your broadband modem.
    3.) Disable any firewall software.
4.) Disable any web accelerator software.

  • I downloaded Lion for my Mac and now Firefox freezes whenever I try to open the NYTimes crossword site.

I've been using Across Lite for years to do the NYTimes crossword puzzles. I just downloaded Lion to upgrade my Mac OS. I've downloaded the new version of Across Lite to fit with Lion, no problem. But when I go to the NYTimes crossword page, Firefox freezes. Sometimes it won't even open the page, sometimes it opens the page but then freezes. I haven't had this problem with any other site.

hello, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...

  • ITunes freezes whenever I try to play any videos

    iTunes 10.7
    Windows 8 64 bit
The moment I try to play a video iTunes locks up. I have to "end task" in the task manager. The only way it will work is in iTunes Safe mode.
I tried disabling Direct3d accel in Quicktime -- did not work.
I completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes using Apple's KB. - did not work
I reverted to older version. - also did not work
I reinstalled video drivers - did not work
Checked for plugins - there are none.
iTunes has basically become unusuable for me. I can't watch any videos.
Can anyone help? I have no idea how to troubleshoot safe mode issues and Apple's KB didn't help.

Do you use audio output via HDMI?
Stereo output via HDMI doesnt work, in this case try to use external (for notebooks internal) speakers and set them as your default audio device.

  • Whenever I try to open the iTunes store, it won't load.

Whenever I try to open the iTunes store, the page will load about halfway and then a blank white screen will appear. I don't receive an error message or anything. The only thing that I can view is my iTunes account settings. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes several times but it hasn't solved the issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem.  I went into software updates and updated security, and two other updates (can't remember exact updates) then restarted my macbook.  My macbook wouldn't start!
I found information about restting the SMC (System Management Controller).
    Unplug the power adapter.
    Remove the battery.
Hold the power button down for 5 secs.
Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
    Press the power button.
My Macbook started up and I opened up itunes and the itunes store opened up with images.
I think the resolution was the software updates, but I'm not 100% sure so I included every step that was made.

Generate another of those errors, and click the "Click here" link in the error message box.
What modname and modver do you see for the error? (Precise spelling, please.)
If the error is a BEX and you thus aren't seeing a modname or modver, let us know what P1 through P9 items are being listed for the error.

Why is it that whenever i try to open my itunes, it says " itunes requires quicktime 7.5.5. or later???

    QuickTime 7.5.5 for Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL27
    QuickTime 7.7 for Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/dl761
=New version of Quicktime installed but application reports it needs to have that version installed=
Open Application > Utilities > System Profiler and check the Quicktime version in Frameworks vs. the version in Applications.  I recently helped where the person had re-installed their operating system.  It had kept the newer Player application but had reverted to an earlier version of the underlying support framework that works with many applications.  Re-installing Quicktime 7.7 took care of the problem.
Installation get stuck at "configuring installation" - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2592979?threadID=2592979  - uninstall Quicktime before installing.

  • TS1368 On my iPhone and iPad I can't access iTunes whenever I try to open it it gives the message cannot connect to iTunes store

On my iPhone and iPad I can't access iTunes whenever I try to open it it gives the message cannot connect to iTunes store any advice

Okay than this definitely was not Apple. Apple support techs never have access to your mouse. It sounds like this company installed some software on your Mac. It is hard to tell what their intentions are but just assume in these situations that all your data was compromised. Possibly all your online accounts have been compromised such as social networks, banks, etc.. The smartest thing to do would be to change all of your passwords and reinstall OS X on your Mac. It sounds extreme but that's what happens when a 3rd party company gains control of your computer.

  • ITunes freezes when I try to find songs that's been removed from iTunes media 'locations' but the songs are still on the computer..

I know where to find the songs.. I know how to move them into iTunes.. sh*t still doesn't work. It freezes whenever I try to move the songs back.
iTunes being heavy and slow.. only program on my computer that takes longer than opening internet explorer

iPod touches or any iDevices from Apple sync only to one computer. If you sync to a different computer, all your music will be replace with the music from the new computer's iTunes. If the music were purchased from iTunes, you can re-download them again otherwise the music on iPod touch will be deleted. Do you have iTunes backup?

Whenever I try to open an app on my Mac it just bounces on my dock and then settles. At first it bounced the disappeared, and then I had to reinstall it, but now it just bounces. Any help?

Try one or more of the following:
    > Restart Your Computer
    > Uninstall and Reinstall iTunes
    > Reset iPod (nothing will get deleted)
    > Look in My Computer (Windows 98, XP) OR Computer (Windows Vista or 7) and see if your iPod is in there.
In some cases (and this happened to me before) plug your iPod in and out your computer a few times. It should get it going. If not, then I strongly recommend starting your computer.
