ITunes Freezes with DRM-free upgrade

I recently took the plunge to upgrade all eligible songs to the Plus version, about 130 in total. However, iTunes freezes whenever the download commences. I tried doing each download one by one, and the freeze occurs with start of the next song to download. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and am up to date with new software updates. Any ideas?

The same problem happened to me recently and the itunes support was of course very "helpful" in giving me useless links to the iTunes support pages. My fix around the freezing problem as it happens when iTunes is trying to replace the older song with the newer version is to quit itunes then move the entire music library to another location on your HD. Relaunch itunes then go to check for purchases to restart the download. Everything should go fine. Once the download is complete you will have to combine the new and old music libraries by moving some files around. Its not the easiest but Its the best solution I had to this annoying problem that the itunes support staff does not seem to care about.

  • What's Up with DRM Free Music??

Read that music is now DRM free. What does that mean? All songs from iTunes store are DRM free? What does it mean to be DRM free? Just curious.

That means there are no restrictions in the music files themselves that limit what can be done with it. Click here for more information.

  • ITunes freezing with error -50, -3259 and 9006

Okay, so I have had a problem with iTunes freezing in relation to downloading Podcasts since around version 8.  After updating to 10.2.2 on 10.6.7, iTunes has turned into one big fail.  Downloading anything produces any of the following error codes: -50. 3259 and 9006 after about 30 seconds.  After any error code is displayed, a few seconds later iTunes freezes with the pinwheel of death and no matter how long I leave it, I end up having to restart using my computer's power button.  After 2-3 restarts like this, the iTunes library is corrupted and the app freezes while loading the library.  During this library freeze, the drive where my iTunes library is stored is ejected.  This happens on both internal and external drives.
Here is what I have done thus far:
    Uninstalled iTunes completely.
Created a new user account and installed iTunes 10.2.2 to that account.
    Added various media.
I have absolutely NO problems with iTunes until I download a podcast or something from iTunes U.  Then, the issues occur and I cannot seem to get rid of them until I unistall completely and reinstall to a new user account.
I would like to be able to use iTunes WITH podcasts and iTunes U on my main user account without the freezing.  Any suggestions?

I seem to have fixed my own problem.  I just thought I'd post my solution since I read posts from many, many people having similar issues.  So hopefully, this helps someone!
I found a file in /Library/Preferences called com.apple.pcast_integration.plist; the file text included QuickTimePro and Podcast Producer Export in its strings.  Deleting the file solved my problem.  I went from my main user account freezing constantly and throwing up errors to working 100% smoothly with just deleting that one file.  I cannot believe this simple action solved a problem I've been having for so long!
I do not understand how this file is being referred to in downloading podcasts.  I have tried everything, even loading and playing all types of media from old libraries I thought were corrupt, but cannot seem to make iTunes or Quicktime recreate the file...nor can I find anyone else having trouble due to this file.  Could it be a remnant from an old installation, or something that somehow deployed along with a podcast?  If anyone can tell me more about com.apple.pcast_integration.plist, I would appreciate it.  And let me know if removing it helps you!

  • DRM Free Upgrade: All or nothing?

I'd like to take adavantage of the offer to upgrade my library but today there is only one of my purchased albums being offered for upgrade.
If I take the offer today, do I forego the "special offer" price to upgrade other albums that I've previously purchased assuming they become available in iTunes Plus at some later point in time?
Are more and more pre-existing albums going to be added to iTunes Plus or is this it?
    Mike

As of today, there's no time limit on upgrading a track or album to the DRM-free versions. The only limit is if you wish to use the "Complete Your Album" feature and move to the DRM-free versions; for that, there may be a time limit. For more information, see the iTunes Plus Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
Are more and more pre-existing albums going to be added to iTunes Plus or is this it?
Eventually the full catalog of material distributed by EMI though the iTunes Store should be made available in the new format. When, or more accurately if, content from other record labels will ever be made available is unknown, but thus far the other labels have been resisting the idea of dropping DRM on any of their content.

  • Itunes freezing with Ipod Touch on Windows 7x64 when setting up

    Hi,
I have an Ipod Touch 3G and a new Dell XPS16 Core I7 with Windows 7 x64. The Ipod cannot be Synced or restored properly. When connecting it it says there is an issue with the Ipod and it needs to be restored. The actul restore seems to go OK but after on the screen to setup new Ipod when I click OK Itunes just freezes. Seems like other people have similar problems.
I've put some troubleshooting steps and findings below.
1/ Though Itunes was corrups so uninstalled and reinstalled, no luck.
2/ Wanted new clean windows install anyway so formatted drive and reinstalled windows from scratch. Updated all drivers and BIOS to latest version. Installed latest Itunes. No other apps just Windows and Itunes. Same result. Itunes library is also empty so there is nothing to sync.
3/ Tried different Ipod (3rd Gen Ipod Nano). This works fine can restore and sync with no freezing issues.
4/ Tried Ipod Touch on 2 different PCs (one with XP 32 bit and one with Windows 7 32bit). On these machines the Ipod touch works fine.
It seems that there is either an issue with X64 Windows 7 and Ipod Touch 3G. Any suggestions.
If I go to Apple I'm sure they will say the Touch is fine because it works with 2 other PCs. If I go to Dell they will probably say the machine is OK because other Ipod works fine and I don't have issues with any other devices.

    Hi,
Thanks for the information. Will try this later and post if it helps. i have tried many many supposed fixes but no luck. At the moment I have clean Windows 7 (no bloatware) latest drivers, latest BIOS and only Itunes installed. Still does not work.
Spoke to Apple on the phone who said they think it's most likely USB drivers. I was using this Ipod with Windows 7 32bit RC for months without any such issues. As soon as i got the new laptop it has been non stop problems.
I did notice Apple have not updated the software since late October, 2 months ago. I have logged a call with Dell but I have a sinking feeling that that will send me back to Apple.
In my case I noticed when it freezes that Itunes is using a reasonable amount of CPU which does not change. In my case 13% of my 4 core I7. I have also noticed that other USB drives tend to lok up and not be accesible when Itunes freezes. Do you get similar symptoms?
My gut feeling is Itunes x64 has some issues. The Itunes App does not seem to be 64 bit either even when installing 64 bit version. May just be the drivers which are 64 bit. If we can find a few people with reproducable issues on different hardware I will forward this to Apple as I still have an open support ticket.

  • Ipod 5G missing from itunes, freezes with 'do not disconnect'

my ipod simply cant be seen on itunes and whenever i plug it in, it will freeze with 'do not disconnect' and not able to do a legal, safe removel.
hav to remove it illegally and do the 'reset' to clear the 'do not disconnect' message.
ipod is still functioning and can only be charged using direct power, but will freeze when its plug into usb port.
    any help on this?
    Thanks

this may seem crazy but.........i had a similar problem for quite a while. my ipod worked perfectly and then all of a sudden for no reason (i thought) my ipod would stall out. the do not disconnect would flash and i couldn't do anything. this happened to me regularly. i did the restore and all that jazz.
one day i was seriously in tears about it. my husband said he would mess with it and voila! it worked perfectly. was he magic? hardly but he took the case off of it. i didn't have a big hulking case but a rubberized one and i guess the bottom piece was just a bit off. it seemed to connect but in reality it wasn't making a good connection.
i took the case off and haven't used it since and have not had a similar problem. its a thought.........if you have a case or something that might be keeping it from making a good connection.

  • ITunes freezes with iPhone, when connected to network

iTunes started to freeze with latest version (9), when iPhone is connected.
I tryed everything from the Apple support page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1421
The last sentence on that page is "Disconnect your computer from the Internet"
iTunes is working well with iPhone, when network is disabled, but how I can fix it? What could be the problem?

    Hey Hoods ginest,
Check out the following article, it'll go over how to sync your photos to your iPhone using iTunes:
iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4236
You'll want to read the section titled "Syncing photos to devices" and then "To sync photos from a folder on your hard disk to your device."
    Take care,
    David

  • Itunes freezing with new 5G iPod

    Hi,
I've just got a new 5G iPod and when it is doing the update thing...itunes just freezes with loading.
    I'm confused.
(Using a 17" Powerbook running 10.4.7 and just done all the updates for itunes and ipod)

I just solved a similar problem, and I'm trying to get the word out. I found that my Firewire ports had gotten jammed up somehow. Unplugging and then plugging back in all the cords worked for me. I you're using USB, the same thing can happen.
Until I hit on this, I had tried every other fix Apple recommended with no success. I wrote more about this at MacFixit forums:

  • Itunes freezes with Windows 7

Help! I have an issue with Itunes freezing everytime I open it. Its getting really irritating and I'm getting ready to return my Ipod. I love it but the software is not cooperating...

I had the same problem and resetting winsock resolved it.  iTunes would endlessly display "Accessing iTunes Store" without ever actually connecting.  I couldn't Authorize my computer to play purchased music or buy new music.  I would have to kill iTunes in Task Manager and restart iTunes.  I am running Windows 7, installed latest version of iTunes recently.  Uninstall and reinstall didn't work.  Here's how my husband finally got it working:
The last 4 or 5 lines at the bottom of the document (pasted entire string of text below) are the things that I ran to get it working:
Make sure that c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS file has 127.0.0.1 in it!
    Reset ipconfig
    Flush DNS
    Reset all winsock networking connections
iTunes is NOT enabled in Windows Firewall.
Connection attempt to Apple web site was unsuccessful.
    The network connection timed out.
Basic connection to the store failed.
    The network connection timed out.
Connection attempt to Gracenote server was successful.

Last successful iTunes Store access was 2013-02-04 14:12:42.

  • Itunes freezes with autofill

    hi folks.
    Using iTunes v 5.0.1.4
Shuffle v 1.12 or whatever the latest update is.
Every time I try to use the autofill function, iTunes freezes necessitating a restart of the program. has anyone on here experienced this, and what suggestions do you have for fixing it.
    Thanx, RKL

Okay After updating about 10x's I give up. I have lost about half my songs on my iPod, but all my music remains in my library. And everytime I update I still get the same message. "Some of your songs in the iTunes music library were not copied to the iPod because your iPod software is too old." Even though I updated 10x's. Ugh, please help

  • Itunes freezes with a spinning cursor whenever it detects my Iphone. Please help

    I have a Macbook Pro running OS X version 10.9.5 with a 2.9GHz Intel Core i7. Memory is 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3
All software (including itunes) is up to date on my Macbook, & iphone 6.
This problem started 2 days ago when I updated itunes to version 11.4. Prior to that I had no problems.
Once I installed the itunes update I tried to plug in my iphone 4S to do a backup and I have had the same freeze result ever since that day.
Today my iphone 6 arrived so I used my office computer (a PC) to backup my 4s. I then upgraded & downloaded my info to the 6.
Alas, once I tried introducing my new best friend to my macbook I got the same nasty response...
Can't we all just get along?
I did search a few conversations and saw someone who had the same issue. The fix that worked for them was to go and seek out the sync system folder location where they ended up finding a "sync system folder" and a "sync systems folder". Deleting the ladder apparently did the trick for them so I took a look in the same location on my macbook only to find that I had only the 1 sync system folder.
If anyone can help here it would be so greatly appreciated...
    Thanks

  • Anybody NOT experiencing iTunes freeze with their Classic?

There have been a lot of threads on here about the inability, once initially synched, to actually use the iPod Classic in iTunes without it draining 100% CPU and causing cripplingly long freezes every ten seconds.
For me, that made the machine unusable, as the simplest tasks of updating podcasts, creating playlists, or adding songs were near-impossible without endless problems, so yesterday I called up Apple, and as they still claim there are 'no known problems' with the Classic, and none of their suggestions helped fix the problem, they are sending me a new Classic to replace what they consider a 'faulty' unit.
However, I have read so many tales from people getting a replacment Classic and still experiencing the same problems, that I was just wondering: is there anybody out there who has an iPod Classic filled up to over 50% capacity who is NOT experiencing freezing issues in iTunes?
It seems to me that we are all saying the same thing: our iPod Classics (80gb or 160gb), when filled over 50% (I have over 12,000 songs on mine, about ten podcasts, multiple playlists, about 22 TV shows) stop working with iTunes and crash the programme with minute-long pauses every couple of seconds that make it unusable.
So that I can have a little hope for the arrival of my replacement iPod on Monday; regardless of any other bugs they may be experiencing with their Classic, is there anybody out there who is NOT experiencing the iTunes bug and whose iPod Classic is flawlessly capable of connecting to their computer operating in iTunes as effeciently and swiftly as their previous generation iPods were?
    I'd love to know!

Hmmm...that does seem to be a good point; only one of those of you whose Classics are working fine in iTunes is using Windows, everyone else seems to be on OS X. I myself am using Windows XP Home Edition (SP2).
In one way perhaps this is a good thing, as it suggests a firmware/software problem rather than a fault with the hardware itself; but still...as I will still be using XP on Monday when my replacement comes, and have no plans (or finances) to buy a Mac in the near future; it doesn't bode well.
That said, one of you is using Windows XP with no problems (although it is the professional edition I think), so perhaps it's still not just a Windows compatability issue?
This has been really helpful so far so keep those answers coming. Hopefully on Monday I shall have some good news to report, but either way I shall let you know how it goes with the replacement.
I just hope Apple are listening and getting to work on an upgrade to sort all this out and clear up the confusion.

  • Itunes freezes with simple tasks

i have a big collection over 380 GB of music, im getting so upset at itunes. it started great but over time has decreased its value. i have stopped buying things from itunes. when i have itunes open simple things like scrolling down makes it freeze up. anyone have a suggestion. i have started to look at other music managers but do really like itunes, well at least use to.

I agree with you about your upgrade choice. Sticks of RAM aren't very expensive these days--it's a pretty cost-effective (and easy) way to upgrade your computer.
As far as external hard drives go--both of my backup hard drives are hooked up via firewire. I do occasionally use an USB external drive to transfer large files between computers--but it's not always attached to my computer. I haven't seen much of a difference in speed between firewire and USB when transferring data.
HOWEVER, I learned a very hard lesson about USB 2.0 and music on an external drive about two years ago. I made the unfortunate mistake of buying a Maxtor external drive that could hook up via firewire or USB. I already had one Maxtor hooked up via firewire, so I decided to use USB for my second drive and make it my dedicated music drive. I spent weeks ripping hundreds of CDs to this drive--at the time I had approx. 250 gb of music. One day I tried to play some music and was horrified to discover that this drive had mysteriously become "unformatted". I lost all of the music files. In my followup conversations with Maxtor (who replaced the drive because it was defective, by the way), I learned that it is preferable to hook up up external hard disks to Windows systems using firewire. Apparently USB devices preform a lot of I/O tasks and if something happens during one of these procedures the device can fail (my sad experience). Unfortunately no one tells you this in the sales literature. It takes a bad experience to learn this information.
After learning this, I purchased an internal drive for all of my music files--spent several more weeks re-ripping everything and then backed up the whole hard disk using the replacement drive I got from Maxtor (now hooked up via firewire). Things have worked just fine in the past two years--and I'm happy to know that I have a complete copy of all of my music files--should another hard drive failure happen at some point in the future.
As you know, there is nothing more boring than sitting hour after hour ripping hundreds of CDs to get a digital library set up! I hope I never have to do this job again!

  • Itunes Freezing with iPod sync

    Hi There,
So when I plug my iPod into the computer and load up itunes. I get prompted with a unauthorization of a few songs (due to an older itunes account; I merged with my girlfriend) Secondly, it then proceeds to update all the songs on my iPod(all 382 of them). When it gets to about number 56 it freezes.
I restored factory settings on the iPod, I unstalled (in the order listed in apple support, and then restalled the itunes.
Any ideas on how to fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem with my iPod however the max I've ever got to is 8 songs. I've looked alot into this as it's really frustrating because my iPod was an Xmas present I was really excited about. I still have no solution to the problem however I have found out that it's not the iPod it's iTunes. Not much help I know, but it's something
