ITunes freezing, and won't even force quit

There was an update to iTunes about a week ago. Since that update iTunes freezes when launched. "If" it starts working after I patiently wait several minutes, it freezes again as soon as I choose any menu option. If I connect my iPad it begins to synch, but it freezes during step 1 of 6 and never starts again. I tried holding down the power button to restart the computer, but unfortunately Lion opens the last used apps on restart, so guess what opens and freezes the computer again. If I manage to get it to force quit, everything else on the computer works fine. I'm using a 27" iMac with Lion and have 12 gigs of RAM. Any suggestions?

Uncheck Genius and possibly Podcasts, and TV Shows to fix the stalls, freezing, application not responding, in itunes preferences/general!!!
Wow, what a difference.
I have personally done a disk permission repair, completely uninstalled itunes and tried older version, to no avail.
As soon as I unchecked these items, mega difference!!! Fast now.

I just want to say thanks. I lost sleep friday night because I couldn't sync or upload anything to my ipod and iTunes told me to restore it. Well I did and lost over 11 gigs of music (I have it all backed up but thats not the point). On saturday morning I tried to upload tunes to my other iPod and couldn't. So I now thought that my mac was corrupted and spent the better part of the day reinstalling Leopard to still not be able to upload anything on the iPods without freezing. Then I went to the forums and tried this tip of un-checking the Genius option and that worked! I guess I should have checked the forums first. I think this was added with the last update of iTunes. Don''t they check these things?

I have Cs2 andOffice for Mac 2004 installed on an Os 10.6.3 system. This weekend my computer did an auto pdate to Os 10.6.8 and now I cannot save or print from any office or CS2 Apps. What happened. Office also freezes and I have to force quit.

What happened is that version 1.0 of the security update was available for a bit of time this weekend, and that disabled Rosetta. Version 1.1 brought it back.

Upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1 for Mac, constantly freezes and crashes, have to force quit, bad bugs. Switching to Safari.

I upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1, and it now constantly freezes, won't respond at all, and has to be force quit and restarted. Within less than 5 minutes of use, over and over and over... I'm assuming it is a bug in the Mac version.... Am switching to Safari as I can't waste this much time constantly quitting and restarting and getting my tabs all back up. Any suggestions on ways to let Firefox know about the bug would be greatly appreciated. It worked fine until I upgraded :( Am running Mac OS X 10.6.7

Every time I open system preferences, it freezes and I have to force quit.

Everytime I open my system preferences to do, or change, anything it freezes and I a have to force quit, I have tried deleting .plist files and restarting and its still reoccuring.

Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. The version is noted there.
Troubleshooting advice can depend on that information.
You can add that information to your Apple Support Communities profile. At the top of any ASC window click Your Stuff > Profile > Edit. You must be signed into to do this.

The Quick selection took is causing my Mac's Photoshop to freeze and has to be force quit?? Help

Photoshop was been working fine for just under a year and all the functions have worked as they should but all of a sudden every time i use the Select tool (Auto select tool) it just just freezes and the loading wheal come up (only a very small part of the picture selects before it freezes). I then have to fource quit out of photoshop, then i can open it up again and it will just do the same? I need a quick fix as i am doing Photography for an A-level and i need photoshop for my exam. You should update your operating system to OSX 10.10.1 or better still the latest version 10.10.2
After updating the OS it’s also best to trash the prefs.
Quit PSE12 if its running.
Launch Finder and find the user Library by clicking the Go menu whilst holding down the Optn (alt) key (n.b. the library is hidden until you press the optn key) and inside the Library folder select the preferences folder. Then trash the following files:

Since I downloaded the last update for Firefox, it freezes and I have to force quit.

Once I force quit, everything works fine until I open Firefox again.

I am using Photoshop Elements 12 and when I am importing pictures the system freezes and needs to be forced quit. When I restart it it continues to bring the pictures in eventually. What is the solution to this?

I would do another rename to disable or just delete all the OldFilm.AEX and OldFilm.AEXOLD in that NewBlue Folder.
If you do, please let me know if that OldFilm.AEX regenerates itself the next time you open Premiere Elements 13.
Here is the strange story...at least from my Premiere Elements 13 Windows perspective...never had the No Disc error issue
Here are some details to sort through trying to figure out why you have 2 OldFilm.AEX file in the NewBlue Folder.
1. The original OldFilm.AEX file of Premiere Elements 13 has the date of 9/4/2014 (just before the version was released on 9/24/2014).
After the 13.1 update is done (whenever date), that OldFilm.AEX file has the date of 1/31/2015. I first saw notification of the 13.1 Update
release early in February 2015.
2. Now in Premiere Elements 13.1, if I take my OldFilm.AEX (date 1/31/2015) and disable it by renaming it to OldFilm.AEXOLD, close out of there, and reopen
the program, the OldFilm.AEX is not seen to regenerate. The OldFilm.AEXOLD remains there as its lone self.
3. So, I am thinking that your OldFilm.AEXOLD in the screenshoot is "original equipment" that you disabled to get rid of No disc error.
Why the OldFilm.AEX is there also is not clear, but the dating on it suggests that it came along with the 13.1 Update.
Bottom line: let us try the deletion or disabling one more time and see what happens.

I recently update to OS X Yosemite and I also updated my iTunes to 12.1 - but now every time I plug in my iPhone 6 or my iPad mini, my iTunes freezes and I have to force quit. So now I can't even plug in and sync my devices or update them or do anything!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I did a factory reset on my late 2008 MacBook from a Snow Leopard disc. It installed fine, but as soon as I began to use the computer (safari) it froze. Couldn't even force quit. So I held down the power button to turn it off, and now it won't start up.

Hi. Don't worry it's nothing serious. Insert the Instal Disc (Snow Leopard) and press the C button while turning on the computer. Once you see the desktop, go to Utility and choose Disk Utility. Select the Macintosh Partition on the left window pane and then click on Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions on the bottom right corner. Wait for both processes to finish. Click on the Apple icon (top left corner) and choose quit. Your computer should restart. See if it reboots normally. If not you can always reinstall the OS following the same steps. Good luck!
