I have an older iPhone and have installed the iTunes 7.7 along with the other updates that came with it. After I did this, I plugged in my iPhone to update the software to 2.0. Everytime I do this iTunes freezes before the iPhone even appears. HELP! Thanks!

  • ITunes freezes, can't update ipod, windows and itunes doesn't see my pod

    I have a 2nd gen Ipod with the really sensitive buttons under the screen and whenever I try to plug my ipod into my PC w/xp nothing good happens. It used to be fine about a month ago and now its screwing up. I never dropped it or did anything bad to it.
    I plug it in.
    I get a windows error message in the bottom right that says "this blah blah blah has malfunctioned and windows can not recognize it"
    That message soon goes away and windows makes that little ding sound.
    After that iTunes just freezes up. I cant minimize it, play songs, or do anything. completely frozen.
    My Computer doesnt even see it.
    The ipod flashes "do not disconnect" until I unplug it.
    When I unplug it itunes starts working after a couple seconds.
    Sometimes it will completely drain the battery right after I charge it fully and it will reset itself and stay off.
    anybody know whats goin on?
    Ive done pretty much everything on this website to fix it and nothing.

    Are you sure that there is no way to change the
    format?
    I never said there wasn't a way to change the
    format.
    To change the format, select it in iTunes on the Mac
    and select Restore.
    I am having a similar issue with my daughters ipod nano. It was formatted for windows when we bought it (we have the songs on a mac) but it only downloads some of her library not all. Having looked in some of the forums it suggests restoring however when we plug the ipod into the mac the button for restoring the ipod to factory settings is not highlighted. In this case how can the ipod be restored to a mac setting? We are using the latest itunes software and OSX operating system.

  • ITunes freezes randomly when updating 60Gb Video

    Had a 40Gb Photo. Now have new 60Gb Video. Have updated iTunes software. Have update iPod software. When I plug in to load songs and pictures, iTunes will randomly freeze up. Have left it as long as 6 hours in case it was working in the background. In force quit,iTunes says 'Not Responding'. Have to hard-remove, as force-quit will not unlock the computer. This is random, it has loaded 18 (out of 4,000), or 256, or 857, or any other number. Does not seem to lock up on any particular song. Have changed setup and tried to load in small numbers, it seems to work for music (though this is not optimum or correct). Won't work with pictures. If it freezes, all the pictures that were previously loaded in small numbers are lost.
    Someone suggested removing the preferences, but I can't find out how .
    to do this.
    Thanks for any help.

    I had the same problem back at xmastime and I finally found that a plug-in called "multi plugin" which was installed by "evil lyrics" was causing the itunes crashes. It only crashed when syncing with the ipod. This was when the ipod was new so it was trying to load everything but itunes would crash after 5 or 10 minutes of syncing.
    I got rid of it by uninstalling itunes, deleting the itunes program directory that was left behind, and reinstalling itunes. Once I did that everything worked fine.

  • HELP!! No problem with Itunes, but can't update or mount nano

    I've searched these discussions forever and tried myriad of suggestions and still nothing works. Here's the problem
    My nano charges fine and Itunes recognizes it and updates the music fine. My nano plays fine. However, my nano never stays in disk mode. I can change the option and Itunes updates it. I disconnect the nano, reconnect it and it shows up in My Computer for about 30 seconds, and then immediately disappears. I've noticed that it shows up in My Computer only until Itunes recognizes it. As soons Itunes recognizes the nano, it disappears from My Computer. Also, as soon as Itunes recognizes it, it immediately looses the "disk mode" and I have to turn the option back on again.
    This causes me to be unable to mount the nano and I can't update or restore the nano using the updater, so I'm still on version 1.1.
    I've tried the hard reset of the nano; still the same problem. I've tried using disk management to format or change letters, but it disappears as a drive before I can get it started. I am dumbfounded.
    ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS?????
    Nano 2 GB   Windows XP

    Well, your post didn't help but I had an "ah hah" moment and finally got it working. I set the nano in disk mode again, and disconnected, but this time when I reconnected I had the updater program ready to be clicked on and My Computer open. As soon as the nano showed up in My computer, I immediately hit the Updater program and was finally able to get the nano to mount. When it finally mounted, I was able to format the nano from My Computer, and when that was done was able to restore. NOw it works again!

  • Missing All Apps in iTunes AND can't update iphone software

    APP PROBLEM- just happened today
    There are zero apps showing in my app folder all of the sudden. My phone shows that 77 updates are available, and yet, not a single app shows up in the apps folder itself. When I click "check for updates" in the app folder, again nothing.
    IPHONE SOFTWARE PROBLEM- been happening for months
    When I plug in my phone to update and sync it says I have software version 4.1 and "A newer version of the iphone software is available (v 4.2). Click to update" so I click "update" and then it says "This version of itunes (9.2) is the current version". Well I didn't click update itunes, i clicked update for the iphone software. So I can't update the software. I have a 2nd gen iphone.
    The only change that's happened is I think I tried downloading the newest version of itunes and it said my operating system is too old for it. So, itunes 9 opens fine, my music is in there. All of my apps have disappeared and I can't update my iphone software. Please help.

    Thank you. So, as far as the iphone update, I'm out of luck unless I get a new operating system, right?
    Yes, I tried restarting my computer to see if they would reappear. I just checked the library on my hard drive and I can't see any applications there. They are still not coming up in the apps folder in the itunes library either.
    Any ideas?

  • ARGH! iTunes Freezes, Can't Force Quit, and Whole Computer Locks Up

    iTunes freezes when downloading movies (says to check network connection, which is fine), then I can't quit iTunes or force quit. I "quit" and it remains active in the dump at the bottom of the screen.  Then Safari freezes and I can't do anything but use the on/off switch to re-boot. I've removed iTunes and re-installed. Didn't fix the problem.
    Of note, iTunes downloads a little bit at a time the movie files, so after off and on rebooting and trying to re-download each time, after a few days the movies eventually download.
    Any ideas?

    I have the problem when I have to force quit. I also have the pinwheel for no apparent reason and have to wait until it stops to do anything. It is frustrating as it does not happen in Safari. I like to use Firefox but it is getting very annoying. I have the pinwheel pop up when I am even typing. I tried your suggestions about starting it up in safe mode and that doesn't seem to work.

  • ITunes freezes downloading app updates

    I'm running 10.5 (141) on my iMac running Lion and am running into a problem where iTunes will constantly freeze when I download my app updates.  If I download updates individually, there doesn't seem to be a problem and if I turn off simultaneous downloads, the probelm will be less frequent but it always seems to happen if I have a bunch of apps to download.  The scenario is this, I will click on "Download All Free Updates" and it will start downloading away.  Things will be fine for a while but after a few minutes of downloading, I'll notice that suddenly the progress bars stop moving and the estimated times start going up.  At this point, iTunes is effectively hung.  I can sometimes press a few buttons like "pause all" and this will pause all the non-active downloads but not the ones in progress.  Even though I can get to the Finder, I cannot quit iTunes, force quit iTunes or restart my system.  If I try to force quit iTunes from the dock, that will usuually cause the dock to freeze.  Each time this happens, my only recourse is a hard reboot.  I've tried having Activitiy Monitor running and a Termimal window open at the same time but when this happen, both of those apps hang at the same time so I'm not able to type any commands or quit any processes.
    This is any annoying problem because each time I do a hard reboot, I risk corrupting my iTunes library.  I've had similar problems with iTunes in the past freezing but those were random.  This always happens during app downloads.  I had hoped that this kind of thing would stop once iTunes was a true Cocoa application but it still seems to bring the whole system down whenever it has a major problem.  My guess is that it's crashing some network process and that in turn in hanging the whole system.
    Luckily, I don't actually need to update the apps on my computer and can do it directly from my iDevices but it's frustrating that this problem exists.  Any ideas?

    I can't believe that no one answered Eric D's querry!  It has been over a year!  Come on Apple iPad users, help us out.
    I have a similar problem that arrose recently.  I have had my iPad for a couple of years, no problem.  But recently, I notied that I had a number of apps that had free upgrades so I began to download them.  ArtRage is one of my important apps as I use it on my iPad andI have ArtRage Pro on my iMac.  However, when I attempted to download the latest upgrade, ArtRage froze.  The app is greyed out on the iPad and it can't be used and I can't download the upgrade either.  When I try to upgrade, it goes to "waiting ..." then, I receive an error window, "Unable to Download Application."  ArtRage" could not be downloaded at this time: with a "Done" and "Retry" button.  If I hit the Retry button, eventually the same error window reappears.  This is a Catch 22!  Moreover, the ArtRage App is frozen so I can't even use the previous version.
    I checked with ArtRage help and they say this is an Apple problem (or a Appstore problem).  I now have my SketchBook Pro app frozen like this also.  These are two of my most importat and most used apps.  I need help.
    Just to make things clear, I was able to download Dragon a few minutes ago.  So this problem does not effect all the apps I need to download.

  • HT201359 What do I do? Can't delete credit card from iTunes and can't update apps

    I'm having problems with deleting my credit card from my iTunes account. Tried everything possible. I tried making a purchase but it didn't go through so now it's not letting me update my apps. What do I do?

    "None" should be located right next to where you chose what kind of credit card you are using. You should be able to find it, if you go to your account and click 'Edit Payment Information' Then where it says what kind of card it is it should be right after PayPal. But if you can't find it, can't you just highlight the information and backspace it?

  • ITunes freezing after latest update 10.6.3

    Yesterday, iTunes installed an update to 10.6.3, and since then freezes less than a minute after launch. The beachball just spins and iTunes is completely unresponsive. It is usually downloading a new podcast at the time, but that is simply because that's the first thing iTunes does if I'm not syncing.
    I tried restarting.
    I tried restarting in Safe Mode.
    I tried restarting without anything connected to any ports.
    I tried uninstalling iTunes, restarting, installing a new download from apple website, and restarting again.
    I'm not sure what to do next....
    Everything was working fine up the the moment the upgrade finished.
    I'm running a fairly new Macbook Air running OSX 10.7.4 with all software updated.
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi,
    I'm having similar issues. When open iTunes, I now wait a couple minute before trying to sync iPad or iPod, or add or delete files.
    iTunes appears to doing something in the background and usually lasts 2 or 3 minutes. This background active occurs  when I have updated iTunes match, the deleting files I want to replace with the matched version.
    This very annoying as it stops downloads until background work finished. There are also memory issues.
    Has only happened since last update.

  • ITunes freezing on iPod update & restore

    I have been browsing the forums all night and have tried every solution. iTunes locks up every time I try to upgrade my iPod firmware or restore. I have reinstalled iTunes 7, uninstalled and reinstalled the iPod Windows USB drivers, turned off all firewalls (in case of internet connectivity issues), reset the iPod and even reengaged it in disk mode. Anyone else have a similar problem? Oh, and the audio on my iTunes stinks just like everyone else's. . . .

    Okay, I should have replied to this topic by now as I think I know why it is happening, at least for some of us. I am now using iTunes 7.02. I first noticed this issue with Itunes 7.01. I have 50GB of songs and they dont fit on my internal drive, so I have an alias in my iTunes folder that forces iTunes to load my library from an external drive. This external drive is a USB 2.0 FAT32 formatted drive (so I can move songs between my PC and my Mac).
    Anyways, as soon as I moved a small portion of my library back to my internal drive to test, the freezes stopped happening when I connect my 30GB iPod video for syncing. I don't know if this is because my external drive is USB 2.0, FAT32, or both. I think this issue happened with my firewire external drive as well, so maybe it's the FAT32 partition on my external USB drive that is causing the issue.
    I hope I have helped someone. If no one else is using a library on an external drive, then maybe I haven't helped at all, but maybe I am on the right track. Either way, I have ordered a new 160GB internal drive for my Mac Mini from mcetech.com so that I can copy my entire 50GB music library off of my external drive.

  • If I use my iPad to store my iTunes library, can I update my iPod through the iPad?  Or must I keep iTunes on a PC to serve as a hub for updating iPad and iPod?

    Just got an iPad.  My plan was to store my iTunes library on iPad and update iPod through the iPad.  Can I do that, or must i keep the library on a PC to serve as hub for all updating?

    Home Sharing is only for PCs that are connected in the same network

  • My pc will not let me install the newer itunes, how can I update my phone without losing all my purchases (i'm thinking i'll have to delete itunes and re-install right?)

    I've had my Iphone4 since 2011 but the current operating system is still 4.2.1. I'd gone quite a while between buying things on itunes directly to my phone and synching it to my pc. When I eventually synched it, it told me that I needed to upgrade to a newer version of Itunes. When I try and click on it to get new version my pc will not do anything. The only thing I can think of doing is to uninstall the old itunes and re-install the current one but i'm guessing i will lose all my purchases. Is this the only way to go about this, any help would be gratefully appreciated - thanks mark (chunky74)

    uninstalling iTunes and it's additional components does absolutely nothing to the music/apps/etc that you have downloaded or purchased.
    before uninstalling iTunes, try going to the itunes website, download the install file there and manually install it.
    If you do have to uninstall iTunes, please make sure you're following this article to make sure that you're uninstalling all of the components correctly and in the right order. Uninstalling iTunes, but not doing it the 'right' way is essentially a waste of time

  • American vs French Itunes store can't update a same App?

    I have been trying to download a applications from the USA while I have created my account in France.. I can't do anything on my apps. I need to change from american to french store and I can't find it easy to do.

    You cannot access the US Store from a French iTunes Store account. To use a French account you must have a French bank-issued credit or debit card and a local French billing address for your account.
    Change iTunes Store Country on an iDevice
    1. Tap Settings;
    2. Tap iTunes & App Stores;
    3. Tap View Apple ID;
    4. Enter your user name and password;
    5. Tap Country/Region;
    6. Tap Change Country/Region;
    7. Select the region where you will be located;
    8. Tap Done.
