ITunes freezing in middle of update to 10.1.2

Help! iTunes installation is stuck at the very end of the update process. Don't know if it's related, but my Macbook Air also appears to be offline, and when I try to get on my wireless network via the menu bar, it won't respond. Network and internet are fine, I'm typing this on another Mac and had no problem connecting.
Has anyone else had problems with the update? CommandOptionEscape does nothing. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
UPDATE: Now I have a black screen with a cursor. The cursor can be moved, but the laptop is otherwise unresponsive.

My update for iTunes 10.1.2 is doing the very same thing. At the very end of the installation it freezes and the installation can't be completed. What do I do? I've tried installing 3 or 4 times and it stops every time at the same place.
What's going on. Help!

  • Itunes freezes when trying to update

my system crashed last week and i had to restore the operating system. since then i've been slowly putting it back together piece by piece. i used a program called ipodcopy to take everything (music/video/pictures) off my ipod and put it back on my computer and my new itunes library looked just like the one on my ipod but now that i've added more music and want to update, i've hit the last (i hope) wall in this reconstruction.
i've made sure to switch settings like auto. update back on and unchecked enable disk use. when i agree that doing all that will replace what is currently on my ipod with what is currently in the library and say yes to linking this library to the ipod rather than the old one - it freezes. i tried a few times over the last two days and the same thing happens.
i'm almost there. someone please help me!

No, a restore shouldn't take an hour.!!! Like maybe 10 minutes, max.
If you had to put iPod into Disk Mode before restoring, the iPod screen may display "OK to Disconnect" and you may need to reset iPod.

  • ITunes Freezing after 11/2012 update.

The new iTunes upgrade keeps causing my iTunes to freeze whenever I attempt to click on the search bar.  I have to continuously force quit and restart the program.
Any idea on what could be causing this?  I have restarted my M.B.P numerous times hoping it would solve the problem, but nothing at all happens.

    Hi,
I'm having similar issues. When open iTunes, I now wait a couple minute before trying to sync iPad or iPod, or add or delete files.
iTunes appears to doing something in the background and usually lasts 2 or 3 minutes. This background active occurs  when I have updated iTunes match, the deleting files I want to replace with the matched version.
This very annoying as it stops downloads until background work finished. There are also memory issues.
Has only happened since last update.

  • ITunes 7 freezes when I select update iPod

I just installed iTunes 7.0. When I contect my iPod video, it takes a more than few minutes to be recognized. Then I get the options to update the iPod software or restore the iPod. When I select update, everything freezes, and after an hour or two, I have to kill the program.
Also, I get the warning that I have more music than the iPod can hold. I have ~ 47 GG music, and a 69 GB iPod.. ?
I tried all this sites recomendations (5 R's, etc), and it seems to be getting worse (I have less memory available on my iPod).
    What's up??

Yeah when I plug mine in to update it automatically, iTunes freezes, but if I update it manually it works fine. I had the same problem with the storage with my old iPod, it would always say that it was full and that I couldn't put more music on. I just restored my iPod and it was fine.

  • Can't access the music on my iPod, iTunes freezes up

Hello out there, I have a problem with my fifth generation 30 GB iPod video. It has worked like a dream until yesterday. I plugged my iPod into my computer (HP laptop running Windows Vista) and it showed up in iTunes as usual. I dragged three albums onto my iPod and it did the usual routine of updating. When it was done I clicked the eject symbol in the iTunes menu and waited for the battery to show on the iPod screen before disconnecting. I turned on the iPod to listen to these new tunes and now my iPod appears to be blank. Under artists, albums, songs, etc there are no longer any options.
Okay, I have the day off from work so I figure I'll just sync it back up and put all 30 gigs back on. I plug the iPod in, iTunes opens automatically, and then freezes. After unplugging the iPod itunes resumes working. I try this several more times, restart the computer, restart the iPod, etc and it keeps doing the same thing.
Frustrated (as this happened once before with a much older iPod several years ago) I headed over to these forums. From looking around I saw the five R's that are always suggested. After reseting, retrying, and restarting, the problem still persists: I can't access the music on my ipod, and itunes freezes.
I then updated to the newest version of itunes. This also did nothing to solve the problem. I want to attempt to restore my ipod, unfortunately this is not possible because I can't access the iPod options through itunes because it freezes as soon as the ipod is attached to the computer.
After reading several threads on these support forums I stumbled on this one: (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1480926&tstart=0) in which a user recommends downloading an alternative iPod manager. I followed the link in that thread and settled on a program called poddox, hoping I could just throw all my music back onto my iPod with it. So I again plugged in my ipod, waited for itunes to freeze, closed it as it was not responding, and opened podox. Podox reported that all of my music is still on the iPod (it says there is less than 200 megs of space available).
Unfortunately poddox won't work for me either. Upon attempting to use it to remove all the data on my ipod my computer crashed and restarted. This is strange because although itunes freezes when the ipod is plugged in, it still appears as a removable disk in windows.
I returned to the apple website and downloaded and older, seperate ipod updater software from 2006. I installed the software and it restarted my computer. When I ran the ipod updater I received a message informing me that this software was no longer supported and that if i wanted to update my ipod's software or restore it I should just do it through itunes v.7 or later. The program then quits, and I have no choice.
I'm about ready to pull my hair out here. What can I do? It seems like a real catch 22 in that I need to restore my ipod for itunes to recognize it but i can't restore it because itunes doesn't recognize it. From what I gather there is no way to restore it without using itunes, is this accurate? What can I do to either delete all the data on my pod and reload it, or make it appear again in my ipod's menu/interface? Any help you guys can give is greatly appreciated, I will be monitoring the responses to this thread in case anyone should need more information from me. Thanks again.

right, figured it out. had to put it in disk mode, then reconnect, then it was recognized, then i restored and put everything back onto it. hope this helps anyone else who has a similar problem

My Iphone4S was in the middle of updating its latest software then suddenly it switched off, it hasnt turned on since and I've tried to reset it but only the apple sign appears then the plug into ittnes symbol. I've tried to plug it into itunes but it says my phone is on repair mode which is why it needs to be restored first in order to connect to itunes. I have also then tried to restore it but the error sign appears.

  • Itunes freezes after I plug in my 4.3 updated Iphone.

I updated itunes to the most recent version and then updated my iphone4 to version 4.3. Everything seemed to have finished and worked ok until I went to try and sync my iphone again. I open itunes and it works fine but as soon as I plug in my iphone itunes frezes and my iphone never shows up. As soon as I unplug the phone itunes works fine again. Same with the iphone, as soon as its not connected everything works fine but when I connect it itunes freezes and in task manager it says that itunes is not responding. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you,

Here is the actual solution.  This was making me crazy too.
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes (8.0.2)
Plug your USB cable into your computer.
Turn your iPhone off by holding the power button down until you see “slide to power off”. Do as instructed.
Now press and hold the Home button while reconnecting the USB cable to your iPhone. After iPhone is connected it should power on the device.
Continue holding the Home button, you will see the Apple logo appear and then finally a “Connect to iTunes” will be displayed, now is the time to release the Home button. You will then see the following image:
After this DO NOT RESTORE YOUR DEVICE!!
Unplug your device and turn it off holding the power button only.
Now start your device again, it will start up like normal.
Now plug it back into your computer.
Itunes should see it as normal and not freeze anymore.
    Good Luck!
