ITunes freezing up when connecting iPad

All of a sudden whenever I connect my iPad to my computer it wont sync.  iPhoto opens & recognizes the iPad & I can see the iPad as a device in iTunes but the spinning wheel of death just keeps on spinning.
Already tried restarting the ipad, letting the battery run out and connecting it to another computer... no change. This started before I could update to the most recent iOS, so I know it is not a new software issue.
help?

If it occurs on another computer, it must be a problem with iPad and not with iTunes. You can try to restore by placing the iPad into recovery mode. This article explains the process.

iTunes 11.4 freezes up in y MacBook Pro when connect iPhone 6. I need to synchronize my info. Tks

I am running iTunes v12.1.1.14 on Windows 7 and I was experiencing the same problem. I found out that the issue started when uninstalling "iCloud". I do not want to use iCloud, but once I reinstalled it I could perfectly synchronize again. I hope this works out for some of you.

  • ITunes freezes up when connecting ipod

Okay I know this was a topic a few weeks back. iTunes has been freezing up when I start it either by clicking on the icon and then connecting the ipod or when I connect my ipod first and then itunes starts up. This was apparently a problem caused by the recent upgrade. I have been prompted to upgrade to a newer version. And of course because I am posting this when I just opened itunes the prompt did not come up.
My question is will this upgrade fix the previous problem caused by the previous upgrade? I've found that if I let my ipod stay connected that somewhere between 10-40 minutes will pass and itunes will recognize it. I'm running Windows XP on a Dell Laptop.

Try the basic 5Rs from Apple Support website.

  • Device not recognized in iTunes, freezes program when connected, no sync

Problem: iPod is not shown as a device in iTunes, but is shown as a drive on the computer...when connected it shows "connected, eject to disconnect" but it stays there indefinitely and I give up after 5 minutes...sometimes I get the "scan and fix" suggestion but it can't do it because it is in use...if I just disconnect it iTunes then tells me it can't sync because it doesn't have the related file...will sync just fine to the iPhone 3GS
My iPod hasn't been synced very often but I always make sure I have the latest iTunes software version. A few months ago I got an iPhone 3GS as well, and the problems seemed to start at that point. I want the songs to be on the iPod, not the phone, however, sometimes I download songs on the phone and need to transfer them into my iTunes library. I know I can have the songs on the phone but I don't necessarily want them there, although I just totally gave up and synced them to the phone tonight so I have something to listen to at work.
So, I plug in the phone and sync it, then transfer the songs, move them to the playlist I want them in, then disconnect the phone. No problem there. Then I decide I want to sync the revised playlist onto the iPod. When I plug in the iPod, it simply displays "connected" and "eject before disconnecting." It will stay that way indefinitely until I just unplug it. Once in a while it will show "synchronizing" for a few seconds and then it goes back to "connected." It is at that time it wipes everything off the iPod but does not put anything back on it. During this time I cannot operate at ALL in iTunes - I can't click anywhere or select anything. It's totally stuck until I unplug the iPod. The device is not displayed at all in iTunes (devices isn't even shown as an option), but it is shown as a drive on my computer. Often iTunes will suggest I scan and fix the disk, which I select to do, except then it tells me it can't do it when the disk is in use. I have tried shutting everything down and rebooting. I think at some point tonight I was able to scan and fix.
I have tried all the Rs up to restore. I can't do that because I can't get iTunes to recognize the iPod is there. I have: 1) updated Windows 2) uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes; 3) moved the hold switch and pressed the center and menu buttons at the same time, 4) moved it to a different USB port. In January I went through the whole rigamarole of restoring the iPod to factory settings, although I don't even know how I did that now.
This is extremely frustrating because every time I want to update the songs on the iPod it is a 3 - 4 hour process, for something that should take 10 minutes.
Is anyone else having these types of issues? I have a feeling it relates to having both products linked to the software, although it really shouldn't be a problem.

I am having the same problem but my son's Ipod 3rd gen was stolen and it has been returned to us. Of course everything has been erased. I am having the same problems and have tried all of the same things but cannot do that reset to factory part because it isn't being recognized in the Itunes and it is not synching. Could someone please let us know what to do

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • Itunes freeze PC when connecting iPhone

    Hi all,
When I start my PC from hibernation mode and open iTunes whenever I connect my Iphone to sync it, my laptop PC freezes and the only way to make it work is, hold the power button until it shuts down and then turn the laptop on.
This starting to happen when I installed the settings carrier update for the iPhone(not firmware 2.2.1)
Is anyone having the same problem????

    Hey,
Try disconnecting the other USB devices from the PC. Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to a USB 2 port on the PC, using the cable that came with it.
Also, try the tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717
Does iTunes have the same issue in another user account?

  • Itunes freezes up when my iphone or ipad is connected and charging for an extended time like charging over night.

Itunes freezes up when ipad or iphone is connected via USB for an extended time like charging over night or even several hours. I am running all current software with all updates on a Macbook Pro. When I hit Eject I get the spinning beachball and have to hit command-option-escape to get out of it or the beachball will stay present forever. Any suggestions?

Looks like new firmware upgrade solved this issue.

  • ITunes freezes (SWOD) when iPOD is connected

Since the latest iTunes upgrade to 7.7.1, iTunes freezes (SWOD) when my iPOD is connected. Worse, if one clicks on iTunes to make it the foreground application, the entire system becomes frozen and only powering off/on with the power button gets the system back (unless one forgets to disconnect the iPOD in which case one is back where one started).
This is an old iPOD that uses a firewire connection. Given how difficult it is completely crash a *nix-based system, I suspect a hardware interrupt is behind this but who knows? Searching the knowledge base and forums hasn't lead to any solution.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

You mean a clean install or system restore of Windows Vista?
Wow -- I hope it doesn't take something that extreme...
(And again: gawd I hate Windows!)
Any other suggestions of things to try/look at before resorting to that?
Also -- when I go to Device Manager, there are no issues at all in the USB controllers list -- and in fact my iPod isn't listed there at all. However, in the "Portable Devices" section , my iPod is listed there -- and the properties says that the driver is provided by Microsoft (not Apple) and is dated 6/21/2006 and is version 6.0.6001.18000

The problem is that your Mac software is quite old.  You must have a version of OS X on your Mac earlier than 10.6.8 (current is 10.8.3), so your particular version of OS X cannot support any later version of iTunes.  (The current iTunes version is 11.0.2).  In particular, your iTunes on your computer cannot deal with your iPad which has software that is much more current than your OS X operating system (and Mac iTunes).

  • When connecting ipad to iPhones personal hotspot via wifi it is showin up as 2 connections when only 1 device is connected. Is someone hacking my phone?

When connecting ipad to my iPhones personal hotspot via wifi it is showin up as 2 connections when only 1 device is connected. Is someone hacking my phone? I only figured out I had a problem when my partner did the exact same set up and it showed up as only 1 device connected. I have changed the password and turned it off/on and etc. the really weird thing is now when my ipad is turned off and I turn my iphone personal hotspot on it shows up with 1 connection (when I don't have anything connected) for about 5 secs and then goes off and then 1 device connected for about 5 secs and then back off. This just keeps going on and off. What is going on. Could my phone have a bug or be hacked. Please help as it is kinda freaking me out. Thanks.

    Hello asrt17,
This may occur if your iPhone is connected to your computer via USB, as it will automatically share the connection via USB.
    iOS: Troubleshooting Personal Hotspot
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2756
When Personal Hotspot is enabled, your iOS device automatically shares your Internet connection with your computer when connected using USB.
Example: When you connect iPhone to your computer to charge or sync with iTunes. To avoid unnecessary data charges, turn off Personal Hotspot when not in use.
    Cheers,

Thanks for your reply. My Mac is running 10.5.8: it's 4 years old.  When I try to update the OS software, I'm told there are none available.
Be careful - there's a difference between update and upgrade.  Your machine is saying there are no updates available, meaning no later versions of OS X 10.5 (Leopard).  However, you can very likely upgrade - at least to OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), and possibly then to OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
Updates are free, but upgrades cost a bit.  That's the dirference.

  • I have Windows 7 and just recently experienced a problem with itunes freezing up when I clicked on the "apps" tab.  Everything else seems to work okay in itunes.  I have uninstalled it and reloaded it 4 or 5 times, but still freezes up.

I have Windows 7 and just recently experienced a problem with itunes freezing up when I clicked on the "apps" tab which shows the apps that are loaded on my phone.  Everything else in the itunes software seems to be working okay.  The problem is in the part where you sync the newly purchased apps.  The apps will all be blank that are downloaded and that part of the software crashes itunes or freezes up.  I can get out of itunes okay after the freeze up, but it just stops me from syncing anything that I have newly added.  If anyone has had this problem before or knows someone that has, please let me know how I can fix it.  I have uninstalled and reloaded itunes 4 or 5 times, but the problem is still there.  I might add that I have been using itunes and purchasing apps for 2 to 3 years without any problems.  HELP.

You would get better response from the iTunes community forum.

  • ITunes freezes on backing up iPad while updating the software to ios 8.

iTunes freezes on backing up iPad while updating the software to ios 8. Please help asap

    Hi tac.sharma,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know circumstances that keep you from updating your iPad can be frustrating. In this situation I would make sure your iPad is backed up to the iCloud, just to make sure your information is safe. After you have that backup, I would suggest following the steps in the attached article to help you through this update process with iTunes.

  • Why am I getting sound distortion when connecting iPad 2 to amplifier.

I am getting sound distortion when connecting iPad or iPod thru amplifier using AirPlay or 3.5mm to rca cables. Also the sound has far too much bass. No problems when connected in car.

It sounds like a mismatched impedence.  What are you connecting to?   the output from the jack is intended for headphones, and is not just an audio out.
Try turning the volume on the pad way down, and use the gain on your amp, and see if that minimizes the issue.
There is a pure audio signal for both channels on the 31 pin plug, but you would need a special cable to use it.  I would bet they are available if you google.  Although I have read that the 31 pin signal is not filtered like the headphone output, so while it is a pure audio output, there may be some noise in it that would need to be filtered.
Try google for a 31 pin cable.  ( the input for the car is probably built to take a signal from a headphone output, while your amp may be expecting a lower power signal)
