Itunes freezing while importing a certain cd?

I am trying to import "Audioslave" by Audioslave and it keeps freezing while trying to import the second track on this album. When this happens I am forced to eject the cd to get itunes to respond. If I uncheck all but the second track, the rest of the cd will import fine. The cd is in fairly rough condition, with some scratches, but I thought if this was what caused the problem the cd would not import at all. Would this cause it to freeze like this or is it something else? What other issues could cause this?
Thanks

That sounds like the problem is in the CD. But first, if you have not checked the error correction box, check it and try to import that track again. If no joy, rip that track in another program, such as Windows Media Player or CDex.
If those don't help, the next thing to do is to get one of those services that will re-surface your CD for a few bucks, to solve the scratch problem. If all else fails, buy that one track from your favorite online music download store.

Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

  • Itunes Freezes While Importing...

Hello everyone. I am having trouble importing one of my cd's (Clipse: **** Hath No Fury). It is the original cd, not a copy. When importing, it is going at about 4.4x speed, and when it gets to track 10, it just freezes, and my drive makes a little sound like its trying to pull the data from it, but the import bar just remains still. any idea on what i should do? thanks in advance..

I too have had the problem of iTunes locking up and going non-responsive. I find it hapens when I am importing music with the "Use Effort Correction when Importing CDs" option checked (its under Preferences>Advanced>Importing).
It is usually one song that causes the problem.
My current solution is to restart the computer. The hang is pretty bad and pretty much kills the whole computer when it happens.
After I restart iTunes, I UNCHECK the offending song that caused the problem and re-import he CD. It normally goes okay. I then uncheck all the songs that imported successfully and check the offending song. Before importing, I go to the Preferences>Advanced>Importing dialog box and UNCHECK the "Use Effort Correction when Importing CDs" option. I can then import the offending song (usually). After I am all done, I go back and set the "Use Effort Correction when Importing CDs" option and ensure that all the boxes are checked for the songs on the CD.
One might ask why not always leave the error correction off? I find that occasionally thre are mistakes on my system when I leave it off. I thus prefer to leave it on when ever possible. I lost a hard drive and re-imported about 400 CDs. I had 9 CDs with issues and on 8 of them it was just 1 song. I wrote down which songs were issues so I wil have it if I ever need to import from them again. The 9th CD has multiple issues and generally is guaranteed to cause a hang inserting it into the computer...I figure it has some type of copy protection on it.

  • ITunes freezes while importing from CD's

My problem does not appear to be throughout the system or software, but only appears when I am trying to import from CD's. It will recognize the CD, obtain all of the track info, begin the import process, and then freeze. Worse, it appears to affect the whole OS - I generally have to manually turn off the computer to shut down. It does not happen every time; I can often import several CD's before it will happen. It may, however, have something to do with certain CD's, as there are a few that I have tried to import numerous times that invariably freeze the computer.
    Ideas? Help!

  • ITunes Freezing While Uploading CDs...

For some reason some of my CDs seem to freeze up iTunes, while importing. The CD will upload usually until the last song and will freeze w/ one second left of the upload. These are all CDs I've uploaded before without trouble. Anybody know what the issue is?

I have found that both on my home Mac and work PC, that iTunes will freeze when trying to play an Audio CD. It will do it usually between tracks. I have turned off error correction in the Preferences - Advanced - Importing. It seems to solve this very unApple like problem. I have seen many problems like this over the past year and fear that this will continue. I am used to locking my PC at work once things
work, and updating my Mac to get all the extra features. Now I feel like I am using Microsoft products. OSX 10.5 search (Spotlight) does not search all of my hard drive so I can not do any searches unless I copy a folder to an external drive and search there (lame).

  • ITunes freezes when importing music from CD and also when playing,

Just recently iTunes has started to freeze when importing music from a CD - it just stops and the progress bar remains as it it. The whole mac then freezes and I get the spinning beachball. I can't use any other application. The same thing is happening when I play music - it's ok for a song or two and then freeze and the beachball appears. I've downloaded iTunes again and reinstalled and it's just the same. Using Safari and Mail etc is no problem at the moment.
I also have a problem getting the iMac to recognise external hard drives - it won't show them on either firewire 400 or 800. I can see my 1TB drive using usb ( it shows up on the desktop, whereas on firewire it doesn't do this) but if I try to open it and see the contents in finder, it opens, but doesn't dispaly the contents of the drive. I can see the disk size but just get a grey spinning wheel in the bottom right hand of the finder window. Timemachine does not work.

I have had the same problem & itunes crashes when i try to import a file. Now i can't even start itune. I've reinstalled itunes so many times, without a fix, I've lost count.
I did post and had no reply. I'll watch this post with interest.

  • Itunes freezes when importing cd's

Everytime I try to import a cd itunes freezes on track 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12. I have to force quit itunes like a dozen times before itunes quits and I can remove the cd from the drive. What is going on? Is it some setting I have? This happens on 9 out of 10 cd's. They are not very scrathed up at all. Any ideas?

Same happening here. If I have a CD which iTunes isn't happy with (presumably too scratched), iTunes just locks up. The machine won't let me bring up the force-quit dialog, nor can I easily switch to other programs (and when I do, the whole machine is really sluggish).
I'm going to switch off the audio correction option for importing -- my guess is that iTunes just gets in an infinite loop trying to read corrupt data from a CD, and slowly ends up hogging all the Mac's resources.

  • Computer Freezes while importing and converting music

I recently updated to Itunes 10.1.2, and now anytime I want to import a cd to my library or convert a non-aac format song into aac format, my computer freezes. Whats weird is my computer only freezes at 99.9 % importing/converting. i.e If I want to import a cd with 16 tracks, itunes will import the first 15 and then almost finish the 16th when my computer freezes. The first 15 songs are then added to my library and run properly upon restart of my computer but the 16th is not. Converting does the same thing even i convert only one song. I've tried re-installing, and downgrading to an older versions of itunes (9.2.1.5) and the same problem occurs. Any suggestions?

  • FCE Freezes while importing video

While importing video, FCE freezes, usually within 3-4 minutes of capture. I have to force quit. I am using Capture Now. I have no problem importing with iMovie. In fact I've been importing in to iMovie and then copying the clips into FCE to get around the freeze. I have my clips saved to a 500GB external drive and my camcorder is a Panasonic PVGS-300. I have imported into FCE many times before. This is the first time this has occurred and I haven't changed anything in my setup or added anything to the system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    I'm having the same problem.
Yesterday, I captured 45 minutes in 4 minute sections, and spent the morning editing.
It got slower & slower & slower.
I saved all, quit & browsed the internet for a while.
The computer continued to whir for some time.
I went back into FCE & it was back up to speed.
I suspect imminent hard drive failure.
Does anyone have an opinion on my diagnosis?

  • ITunes freeze while listening radio through Apple TV

    Hi there.
I've got problem with iTunes. It's freezes while I listen internet radio through Apple TV. It happens after about 15-20 minutes. Music continue plays but iTunes freezes and do not open. All updates to Mac and Apple TV has been installed.

    Hi Dreanmachine1,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
When you purchase a song on your Apple TV, it is available on all of your devices. There are a few reasons why you may not see the song on your iOS devices or your MacBook Pro. They may not be set up to download purchases automatically, or you may not have been signed into the iTunes Store.
I'd suggest trying to download the purchases on your other devices using the steps in this article:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
You may also want to check your automatic download settings, so you can receive future songs automatically. See this article for help:

    All the best,
    Jeremy

  • Itunes freezes after importing CD

Itunes works fine, if just listening and navigating through my library, but when I import a new CD via the CDROM, itunes freezes up and it is necessary to restart the computer to get itunes to work properly again. I am currently using Itunes 7.5 as I am afraid to upgrade after reading all the problems in these discussions, not chancing on making things worse. This problem started obvioussly after agreeing to Apple's suggestion to upgrade itunes software.

Does it freeze if you just import one song?

  • ITunes freezes after importing one cd and alters normal computer function

After I import one CD, my computer will not recognize any other cds I insert and itunes freezes. After I force itunes to quit, my computer continues to "act up" and will not retrieve any webpage information from the internet. If I try to restart itunes it fails to open and does not give me any sort of error message. I have to reboot my computer to resume normal function.
I did the remove and reinstall of Quicktime recommended in other discussions since those problems seemed similar to mine. However, it didn't do the trick.
I am running McAfee, not Norton.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
      Windows XP

Also having issues with similar problem. Also cannot burn CD's with new music purchased, however, old music works perfectly. I noticed that after purchase, there is also a return on the account purchasing FROM. DOn't know if this means that the music is no longer licensed, as it would seem that it is unpaid for at this time. Are you able to assist? This would be easier by phone, but no phone support available.

  • ITunes crashing while importing from CD

I am a very new first-time iPod owner and am very frustrated by iTunes crashing with an access violation while importing from CD.
This has happened with a number of different and brand new CDs and it will import a number of tracks but then falls over. If I try to just import the particular track it will crash again but other tracks are imported OK. However if I drag and drop the same track from a windows explorer view into iTunes it will then import fine without crashing.
Any suggestions? OS is XP Pro. PC is Athlon 64 Dual Core with 1GB RAM. iTunes v 6.0.1.3
    Peter

I seem to be having the same problem. I insert the cd and it reads it fine. I click to import and iTunes locks up. I use task manager to close iTunes and system is still bogged down. I have paid several people $$ and they don't seem to know the problem. There has to be a conflict somewhere but where?
Last person to help suggested that I use WinAmp to rip the cd and THEN import to iTunes.
Hubby has a Creative Labs MP3 and ripped 100+ cd's prior to iTunes installation with no problem.
    Can anybody out there help?

  • After updating to iTunes 10.5, iTunes freezes while syncing and doesn't recognize a cd in the cd drive

I have a 160gb iPod Classic that is about 3 years old.  I just added new music to iTunes 2 days ago and synced my iPod.  Today, when I opened iTunes, it asked for the update to 10.5.  I allowed the update, added some more music to my library and synced iTunes with my iPod again.  When the sync was done and I ejected my iPod, it appeared that all of my music, videos, podcasts and photos were erased from iPod.  When I try to sync it again, iTunes freezes about 10 miniutes into syncing and then only about 300 songs appear on the iPod.  I tried to restore the iPod which has led to more difficulties.  Also, I noticed when I attempted to add music to my music library, iTunes no longer recognizes that there is a disc in the CD drive.  I am running Windows 7, 64 bit and there seems to be alot of problems in the community after the iTunes 10.5 update.  I have also been getting unknown error messages followed by the codes (-48), (-50), (-120), and (-53).  Does anyone have any answers??? Help Please.... I have a library of 13,144 songs and I want them back on my iPod.

Since updating to iTunes 10.5 I am unable to view the iTunes Store - using Windows XP; Have the minimum system requirements changed for 10.5? What has changed? The Sync in 10.5 also seems to be slower than previously. What exactly does 10.5 deliver, to Users?
To make matters worse, in iPhone OS.5 it is not possible to purchase a Series (for instance) unless there is sufficient space to download direct to the Phone; Previously you could confirm the purchase on your iPhone and then use iTunes 'Check for Available Downloads' to download. This was the only available work-around to a dysfunctional online Store. Nice one Apple - you have successfully prevented me from making purchases (of any size) from your store; Why was this change necessary and how is it desirable?
NB: it should not be necessary (nor is it desirable) to uninstall anti-virus software to acommodate iTunes; although you may need to modify its configuration (confirming the Store connection is 'safe') during or after install

  • ITunes freezes while transferring TV season from Apple TV back to computer

I bought a season of a show on the Apple TV and it downloaded the entire season fine. When I open up iTunes and it starts syncing, it indicates that the computer is transferring the shows from the Apple TV back to the computer, but then iTunes freezes in the middle. The Apple TV appears to be fine. I'm currently running Custom Sync as the option.
I'm running 2.4 ATV OS, the latest iTunes (8.2) on a Windows XP. Network is a Linksys 54G wireless router.
I've looked at some things and have tried reauthorizing, rebooting, etc. It's a pain because I have some new content that I want to get on the Apple TV, but it defaults to transferring shows back before adding new content from iTunes onto the AppleTV.
    Any thoughts?

Thanks for the update, but that doesn't really help me since my computer (desktop) and my computer about about 50 feet from each other and I really have no desire to unplug either to sync. The reality is that this has been a problem with 2.4 since it was released a month and a half ago and there is no reason why Apple hasn't fixed it by now.
What this has led me to do is not download any shows to my AppleTV, I just buy them on my computer now and the downstream sync works fine.
