ITunes frequently crashes

I find that when booting up my computer, which has my iPod plugged into it, after I log in and it goes through the tortuous syncing process, it will nearly always crash, leaving the iPod with a "do not disconnect" display. If I restart iTunes, it will complete the sync normally.
I'm getting pretty tired of the drill and thought I'd capture a memory dump of the crash and submit it, but, I can't find anyone to give it to! You'd think they would want something like this.
Is there any way to submit a memory dump of this thing so it get fixed?
About all I can tell from the dump is that it crashed because of an access violation (0xc0000005).

***I accidently posted my comment before I finished editing it in my word processor.  Please see the full post below:
I have pretty much the same issue here.  It has been happening with my Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit HP Pavilion dv8 laptop since I bought it in November of 2009.  itunes freezes anywhere from a few times to several times a day and without any particular action that sets it off, and with never an error message occurring. Furthermore, I always have to kill iTunes using the Task Manager as it cannot be closed through the frozen application window, and right clicking on the taskbar icon and trying to close it fails to give any results.
I keep iTunes and its associated software (Bonjour, QuickTime, etc.) as well as the drivers for my PC and Windows 7 all up-to-date, but that has failed to resolve the issue.  Four reinstalls of Windows since November of 2009 have also failed to fix the issue and even deleting all iTunes and Apple related settings and software from the “AppData”, “Program Files”, “Program Files (x86)”, and “ProgramData” folders and doing a completing clean reinstall of iTunes and re-importing my media files from scratch (not importing my previous iTunes Library and settings) fails to solve it.
Additionally, on two separate occasions I have followed all of the steps in the support article "iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues" at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717 without success.
Interestingly enough, on my Sony Vaio VGN-S260 laptop running Windows XP 32bit, I never experienced issues with iTunes even though using it constantly from 2005 - late 2009, and even through major service pack updates, culminating in Windows XP Service Pack 3.
I hope this helps and also that someone can finally come up with a solution for this problem.
Cheers!

I'm using itunes 10.4.1 on my alienware m15x and it keeps on crashing. It crashes all the time. adding musics, crash. converting music, crash. is there any solution to this? I don't even use genius

I've done some research and apparently re-installing itunes will solve the problem.

  • ITunes 12.1 still frequently crashes when accessing store

When I updated to iTunes 12.0.1 from iTunes 11.4, iTunes started frequently crashing on launch or if it would launch, when accessing the store.  This continues with iTunes 12.1.0.71.  It's crashing less often, but still does.  When it doesn't crash, I frequently get messages about network connections being reset.  I can sometimes get to the store, sometimes not.  Trying to update Genius or iTunes Match always fails though.  If I try to run the network diagnostics, it also crashes.
The above problems only happen when I'm in my office.  If I'm at home or if I VPN to my home, iTunes works fine.  11.4 works fine at my office so iTunes isn't blocked by my corporate firewall, but for whatever reason 12 and up has problems.

    Hello Morac,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you are experiencing issues with iTunes for Windows unexpectedly quitting. Most of these issues can be resolve by using the following article - I’d give the steps a go even though you have isolated the issue pretty well:

  • IPhone 4s frequently crashes, and Apple genius is recommending iTunes backup

We had our iPhone 4s replaced recently, and restored it from our iCloud back-up (we always back up to iCloud, and not to iTunes).
After a couple of days, we started experiencing frequent crashes, as in the phone becoming unresponsive, the hour glass showing up and getting stuck, and other problems which wouldn't be solved until we did a hard restart. Also, the battery was draining pretty fast.
We then took it to a genius bar, and my wife is told that it is because we had restored the phone from an iCloud back-up??? They said we'd need to start backing up to iTunes now to avoid this problem or the crashes would happen again. Unfortunately I wasn't there, and she didn't get any knowledge base article or anything that would substantiate what they were saying.
So they are recommending we back up to iTunes now to avoid this issue, and that we turn off our phone at least weekly.
Is anyone aware of a similar issue or a related knowledge base article?
    Baffled...

I suspect your wife either misinterpreted what the genius was trying to tell her or the genius she dealt with is not quite up to snuff.
When you see problems like yours, that are software, not hardware, & you find that the backup of a previous phone was restored to the new phone, this almost always means corruption in the backup. Restoring from a corrupt backup will merely continue to restore the problem. What the genius "may" have been trying to suggest is to delete your existing iCloud backup; restore the phone as a "new" device in iTunes; follow that by syncing your content back to the phone. You can then backup to either iCloud, iTunes, or do both.

  • Never had an iTunes version crash as much as 9

I can't believe how many times iTunes 9 has crashed on me since first installing. I have literally lost count! It mostly (if not every time) seems to occur when browsing the iTunes Store. I have noticed it happening more than once when all I did was tap the Back arrow at the top to go to the previous store page- waited a few seconds with the progress bar not moving, then... crash. It seems iTunes automatically sends a report on reopening, so that's ok. I really hope they iron out these bugs because the old saying "it just works" isn't the case anymore.
Anyone else with more frequent crashing?

Only when loading a video on either iTunes 9.0 or Quicktime. It's getting ridiculous. Also, when using search or scrolling down in my iTunes Library (6,857 songs), it's extremely slow. I would rather wait another month for iTunes to be bug free rather than being frustrated with it until the next update is released.

  • Using Aperture 3.51 I am having frequent crashes and freez ups when editing Canon raw files?

    HI,
I have an IMac with 4 G of Ram and am using Apeture 3.51. When trying to edit CS2 raw files I experience frequent crashes and freez ups of the whole computer. Any suggestions?

You didn't mention any color calibration being done on your monitor.  This is an essential part of any color-correct workflow.  What are you using to calibrate your monitor (and your printer)?
Print profiles (for soft-proofing as well as printing) are for specific combinations of paper & printer.  The nine you have are each, most likely, for a common paper (perhaps mfr'd by Canon) to be used with your printer.
I don't know what you mean when you say "I choose a high standard print option".
Have you read the User Manual chapter on printing?

There is also a good appendix on calibration:

  • HT1349 My iTunes keeps crashing every single time I open a Windows PC or Laptop and the "Matching with the itunes store" starts.  It's driving me nuts because I can't sync to my iphones or my ipad.

My iTunes keeps crashing every single time I open the software on any of my PCs and laptops.  Once the Itunes match features starts it's ony a matter of a minute or two before the software crashes.  I have tons of new songs that I want to sync to my ipod, ipad and iphones but can't get it accomplished.  Any suggestions??

  • Frequent Crashes after upgrading to ML (Macbook Pro 15" 2010)

I have been experiencing numerous, frequent crashes ever since upgrading my computer (Macbook Pro, 15", 2010 model) to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard. The crashes appear to be very random; they don't happen at startup and aren't associated with any particular application or action. For example, I once experienced a crash while opening a file in VLC. After restarting, I was able to use VLC without any problems, and instead experienced  a crash when opening a bookmark in Safari (which wasn't a problem earlier). In all cases, the screen turns black for a second and then the computer forcibly restarts.
Below I have pasted the details of the error report that the computer wants to send to Apple. I've had nearly 20 of these since upgrading on Wednesday night, and I don't know if they are all the same. But hopefully someone can help me here; I don't know how to interpret this log in order to pinpoint what is causing the problem. This looks a lot like the "kernel panics" that others have reported, but I just don't know what that means or how to fix it.
Also, I ran Software Update and am currently up-to-date.
    Thanks so much,
    Anthony

  • ITunes Match crashes during 3rd step when uploading songs to the iCloud

    Hello There,
I have just one issue with iTunes Match which causes me to be slightly skeptical, although it is such an amazing way to listen to music ect.
I have about 15000 songs and most of them were added on the iCloud, however only around 200 still needed to be added manually on the iCloud. The issue appears right after the second step where the songs starts uploading. All of a sudden iTunes just crashes and asks me to close the program.
Just to add I am using a dell desktop PC with windows 7, and everything is up to date including latest updates of the iTunes.
What can I do to sort this issue out, so the rest of my music can be added to the iCloud without having iTunes to crash during uploads?

    hi,
    See this link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4914
I have read elsewhere that some people have used match with XP successfully but they were having more and more problems with each upgrade of iTunes.
Have you tried removing the tracks that are still waiting to be matched or uploaded. There may a track that is causing the problem. Once you have removed outstanding track update imatch. If this works, gradually add the tracks back a few at a time.

  • How do I stop my iTunes from crashing

Hey can some one help me out my iTunes keeps crashing and I don't know how to fix it

    Hello there, Mateorocks.
The following Knowledge Base article povides some great troubleshooting steps for your issue:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
    Particularly:
Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.

  • ITunes keeps crashing and won't let me update to ios 5 + many more problems with iTunes

Here is alist of all my problems:
Whenever I try and sync my iPhone     to my computer it doesn’t work and then my iTunes crashes, there are no     error messages it just freezes and crashes.
After I have done this my iTunes     doesn’t even open and crashes strait away.
My iTunes also crashes     sometimes when I am just trying to move from (for example) music to     movies.
My iTunes also refuses to     access iTunes store (no errors it just doesn’t work).
Sometimes I can get past the     backup issue by cancelling the back up and letting it sync, but no it won’t     even let me do that it freezes and crashes before it can even transfer my purchases.
All thishappens if I can even open up my iTunes.
I amcurrently running ios 4.3.4 as I can even update to ios 5 I am running (tryingto) iTunes 10.5.
I have trieduninstalling and reinstalling iTunes about a 1000 time and it hasn’t doneanything (done as instructed on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923). I havebeen trough tones of pages on the community and on the other support pages thatapple has but I have found no answers. I have also tried to install an olderversion of iTunes but it just comes up with an error message saying all myfiles are configured to iTunes 10.5 and noting work on that either.
This hasbeen going on for ages and I know there is a lot to deal with in this post butplease if anyone has any ideas, knows, or has dealt with any of the above please help.
    Thank you

I am having the same problem. I'm wanting to update to iOS 7, the 'Update Now' button is available, but it says I can't download due to no Internet connection. I DO have an Internet connection, but either way it won't let me update. Help!

  • Windows doesn't recognize Ipod and causes iTunes to Crash. . HELP!!

    Hi,
Recently, I plugged in my ipod (30GB Photo) to my computer (running windows XP with SP2) and it caused itunes to crash. I rebooted the machine and tried again and the same thing has happened. I've spent the past day trying to fix it. I have done the following things and nothing has worked:
    -reset my IPOD
-formated my IPOD (erased all the songs)
-uninstalled and reinstalled ITUNES & QUICKTIME
-tried to reinstall the ipod on the computer using the original cd.
-disabled startup items to check if anything has been conflicting
-tried all the usb ports on my computer and 2 different wires
I don't know what else to do! I don't think the ipod is formatted for windows anymore (is that possible?) and whenever I try plugging it in, iTunes freezes up until I unplug the ipod. As well, Explorer recognizes it as a "Removable Disk" not IPOD.
Please helpppppp! Thank you sooo much

    Hi there
You're pretty much describing a problem I had yesterday.
I've got the 2gb model and initially it was working fine. I run off a 4 port usb hub with other equipment running as well.
Everything was okay but I kept getting a balloon telling me that usb 2.0 would be faster, so I routed my extension cable directly to a usb 2.0 port on my computer and all of what you describe started.
The PC showed my nano as a removeable drive but could not be acesssed. If I managed to get it recognised in itunes (took forever) then it just said it was corrupted and was unable to restore.
After much cursing and trawling the internet for answers, I gave up and put the cable back to the hub.
    And.....everything worked again !!
I can only conclude that my hub (quite old) does not work on usb 2.0, or putting the extension cable (5m) straight into my PC causes a power drop / signal loss ??
Are you using an extension cable or a hub? something to try.
    Good luck anyway
    Regards

  • Frequent crashes with CS5.5 all of a sudden.

Hi.  I've been running AE CS5.5 fine on my Pentium I7 Win7 12 gig RAM, clean system, but suddenly I'm running into frequent crashes that I'm trying to isolate.
When it happens, it occurs when I try and do a RAM preview.  It renders the frames fine, but when I inturrupt it (keypad INS key) to play what it has, it sometimes says that it can't continue... saying something went wrong with Trapcode Particular, then the Tint filter, and then some other filter.  I don't think they are actually to blame.. just victims of something else.
The system seems sluggish often, too.  Normally, it's fine, but (I would imagine) when the RAM is filling up with the previews, it sometimes acts like it's an ancient computer... very slow pause before reacting to anything.  Generally, a Purge All clears it up immediately, but I'm not sure why it is straining so often, with an I7 processor, 12 gigs of ram, and a clean system.  Wasn't doing that with any other projects, and I suspect it has something to do with this one.
I THINK it might have been triggered by my inclusion of particles (although they are hardly enough to strain the system, and I've done this before fine).  Renders fine, no crashes.  Really, only just when I hit the keypad INS key to play a RAM preview.... and that's only about half the time.  Otherwise, it's working just fine.  So, it's seemingly random, although I suspect it's something with the RAM being eaten away as frames are stored as I jump around the timeline.
I believe it wrote a diagnostic txt file somewhere, but I don't know where it put it, unfortunately.
Sometimes, even a newly started AE and project load will crash immediately when I try and preview.
Another possible clue...  I have audio files (.wavs mostly), and sometimes when I would view the waveforms, I get some sort of error there too, but it continues on just fine (showing the waveform).
I'll often get the 'AfterEffects can't continue... Contact Adobe' window, with (0::42) at the bottom.
Only other error I sometimes get is the 'AE can't continue: Damaged Item (26:311)' one... usually when I'm trying to save the crash file before it closes the app.
Any suggestions as to where to begin?  Is that log file worth looking at?  If so, where would that be?  It's only happening sometimes... otherwise, it runs just fine (and has always rendered the whole scene no problem).
Hope someone can help.  Sorry if this is yet another tediusly vague and all-to-familiar post!
    Thanks

That I have yet to determine.  Certainly doesn't seem to crash if I take off the effects layers, such as particles.  I have to isolate each thing and see.  It's just difficult, since it only crashes SOME of the time, so it's hard to get an obvious cause/effect.
As far as I know, I'm using the most current version of Particular.
Seems a few things are running odd.
AfterEffects definitely becomes very sluggish in its response to mouse clicks at points... an obvious delay after each action, as if it needs time to think of each action.  Seems to be a memory thing (as it's fixed with a purge), although I'm not sure why it reaches a point where AE is struggling to keep it's own interface responsive.
Still getting occasional errors when I try and view waveforms of audio layers, although it continues on fine after the error message.  The error itself is kind of vague, so of no real help.
Just did another full render test, and it does it perfectly fine every time.  Something to do with the RAM preview, it seems.  Seems RAM is acting up both in that sense (RAM preview) as well as the sluggishness AE sometimes gets into (seemingly after you have previewed and/or jumped around the timeline a lot, so (in both cases) a lot of frames have been stored.  Still not sure why it reaches a point where it's struggling.  Disk Cache is on, so it shouldn't 'run out of RAM' in that sense.  Really confused...  An I7 with 12 gigs of RAM shouldn't be struggling like that (...even though it's random and only occassional).  I was wondering if I have something configured wrong in the memory settings.
