ITunes Frezes When Syncing

I posted this in the iPod area, but will try here too:
When I attempt to sync music I then get the message "iTunes could not copy "Song Title" to the iPod "Dominic's iPod" because the file could not be written"  The symbol to the left of the message is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point inside.  After closing the error window, iTunes says "Syncing Dominic's iPod" Finishing sync, with the moving candy cane stripe.  Eventually that freezes too, then the message and strip go away and a final error window pops up. "The iPod "Dominic's iPod" could not be synced.  The device timed out."
I have already tried restoring the iPod to it's original settings and have redownloaded iTunes.
I tried with the Windows Task Manager open.  The status of iTunes goes fron "running" to "Not Responding" when the error message appears.  It goes back to "running" after clicking OK on the "iTunes could not copy..." error window.  Then goes back to "not responding" when the candy cane stripes freezes.  And finally back to "running" when the device times out.
All music files are Apple Losless Audio File (m4a) ripped from our personal CD collection.  They reside on a Synology DS211j NAS.  No settings on the home network have changed since my last succesful sync almost 3 weks ago.
I am running:  Win 7 Pro 64 bit
                     iPod 4G (iOS 5.1.1)
                     iTunes (10.6.3.25)
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dominic
iTunes, Windows 7

Did you check the option in iTunes to reduce files sizes to 128 kbs? That can make syncing a lot slower, since iTunes does the transcoding on the fly during syncing.

  • Itunes crashes when syncing Ipad with mp4 movies in photo folder for keynotes

I'm trying to upload a small MP4 video onto my Ipad to use in Keynotes. I place the video in the photo folder and select sync, then tunes crashes.
I had created the video in Corel Video Studio pro 3 and created MP4 file. Copied to the IPAD and had it all working. I then made changes to the video and reconverted and now Itunes crashes when syncing.
    Itunes 10.4.1.10 Ipad 4.3.5
    Please help urgent

I had the same problem, and it turns out that the problem is having the same file into different folders. For example I had an MP4 in iTunes, and the same file in the photos folder that was being updated to the iPad. So I just removed one file and it syncs perfectly.

  • ITunes hangs when syncing large files to network attached drives, ideas?

I've done a lot of research on my problem and have come up blank so far. This is my setup and situation. I use a macbook pro and iTunes 10, but since I use a small SSD, I do not have much room to keep iTunes media on my disk. So, I use an external USB drive, formatted HFS+ J, accessible over my AirPort Extreme as a networked drive and am trying to keep my media there by setting my iTunes Media folder location to my "/Volumes/<drive name>/iTunes/iTunes Media" under iTunes>Preferences>Advanced. For the most part this works, but there are a few gotchas that are making this setup unusable.
The biggest problem is if I try to sync a large file (for example a 250MB app) with iTunes to my networked storage, the culprit almost always being a large iOS app in Mobile Application folder, iTunes will hang with the spinning color wheel, and in the toolbar shows "Not Responding". This also hangs the Finder. After this situation, I pretty much have to force quit everything and reboot my machine to get the Finder and iTunes back to health.
So, I thought that I would try keeping the iOS apps on my local drive and just move my music out to a network drive. But iTunes doesn't allow any granular configuration of the sort (big FAIL on Apple's part), and I've read up that iTunes does not play nice with symbolic links or else I would keep the iTunes Media location set to my local drive and symlink the Music folder out to my network drive.
So, given that 1) I don't have enough space to keep everything local, 2) trying to keep everything on NAS causes my machine to fail when syncing my iPhone or trying to consolidate my iTunes library because of large file transfers over the network making thing go insane, and 3) iTunes doesn't easily let you manage your library with symlinks, any ideas on what I should do?

i assume you are connecting wirelessly to the AEBS, correct ?
as a test, run an ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN ports of the AEBS (you might want to turn off airport on your machine), then try again.
    does the problem persist ?

  • ITunes Crashes When Syncing iPhone or iPod

I am running iTunes 8.0.2 and I am having problems syncing both my iPhone and iPod to my Mac via iTunes. When I connect either device and start the sync process iTunes will crash to the desktop and then ask me if I would like to relaunch it. There are no error codes of any kind but it does give me the option to report the incident to Apple (which I have done twice now). I've tried restarting the Mac, I've tried rebooting both the iPhone and the iPod but every time I connect either one and initiate sync, iTunes crashes to the desktop. I am not experiencing any other anomalies in iTunes and everything seems to work fine between iTunes and my Apple TV including syncing. Anyone else seeing this behavior - it just started today out of the blue. Is there a way I can reset iTunes without losing my music library? Also, when I synced the iPhone to iTunes and it crashed I discovered later that iTunes has lost two of my paid applications out of iTunes and deleted them off the phone as well. As best as I can tell they are gone. What the heck is going on here?

This is probably the same issue as this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1885983&tstart=0
Itunes 8.0.2 crashes during sync to iPhone or iPod with the EXCBADACCESS exception. The problem does not affect Apple TV syncing.
No word from apple yet, but it seems to be a widespread problem.

  • ITunes freezes when syncing with iPhone, but works fine with iPod?

It's a bit of a long story with my iPhone/iTunes problem. In late July, my iPhone stopped syncing properly. It's an iPhone 4. Basically, I tried to add more photo albums to sync onto my phone, something I have done before. It began syncing, then notified me that it couldn't sync 'x' amount of photos. It was a pop up on my phone screen. I tried deleting my cache in My Pictures, still errors. Then it seems like everything possible has just glitched when I sync as weeks went on. It wouldn't sync music. The songs would appear gray and failed to play. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it doesn't. Now, iTunes freezes when it reaches the end of the sync and I have to ctrl+alt+del to close iTunes as it stops working.
I took my iPhone to apple, and she ran diagnostics and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. She told me she couldn't run diagnostics on my iTunes because it's a Windows laptop and she's "not trained to work with them". She said everything seemed fine with my iPhone and asked if it was possible if I have a virus. I've had no other problems with my laptop whatsoever and I have a decent virus protector that we pay for monthly.
I have tried restoring my phone twice, with a backup. I tried again WITHOUT a backup, and still, it freezes when it syncs, some songs are gray on my iPhone and won't play, and photos refuse to sync, period.
I then tried syncing my dad's iPod with my iTunes, and it worked. I also tried syncing my iPhone on my dad's laptop, and it worked. So something is clearly glitching between specifically my phone and my iTunes. I'm avoiding uninstalling iTunes at all costs because I don't want to lose play count information as the majority of my playlists are created this way. I thought iOs 7 or iTunes 11 (now 11.1) would fix it, but neither did.
Can anyone determine what the problem could be and how to fix it?

the same thing is happening with me. itunes will freeze and then it wont put songs on my ipod.
im starting to get upset since i just went out and bought a new ipod. thinking that was the problem.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

  • Why is itunes crashing when syncing iPad in Windows 7?

When syncing my iPad via iTunes using Windows 7 Professions (SP1)... iTunes crashes repeatedly. This just started. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I deinstalled-reinstalled. Problem persists. I get the error message: "iTunes has stopped working. Windows will close program & notify me if solution available". I checked Microsoft's support site but didn't find anything. I'll check again. Thx for the help.

  • My itunes freezes when syncing apple tv

I upgraded to the new version of itunes and my apple tv did it's software upgrade too
But now i can't sync my apple tv with my itunes it just freezes, i've done factory restore on the apple tv and it just won't do anything!

I was able to get my iPad synced just now by going into the control panel and accessing "Services".  This is located in the "Administrative Tools".
There you will find a service called "Apple Mobile Device". Select that service and you should see options on the left side of the window to stop or restart the service. I stopped it, started it again, and I was able to sync my iPad, finally.
I saw the instructions for this on another thread.  I tried to find it again to post a link for you, but no luck.
In the meantime I also set up the iPad backup to go to the cloud rather than my PC. This also seemed to be less taxing on the system when syncing.  I don't know which action enabled me to sync (for now), but something worked.
It's somewhat infuriating. Let me know if you find out anything else. I need documents on my iPad for work, and if I can't load them on there it has become a very expensive and heavy paperweight.
    Cheers!

  • Itunes crashes when sync pictures

im traying to sync new picture in a folder  they are around 680when the sync going by 630 the itunes crash and windows 7 close the program. who i can fix this issue. thanks

There's a bug with 10.1.0.54 that is causing "iTunes has stopped working messages" (citing CoreAudioToolbox.dll in the Problem Reports for the error) for some folks when importing CDs with the AAC encoding, adding/converting files to AAC, and in some cases syncing devices.
Short of rolling back your iTunes to 10.0.1.22 and your Apple Application Support to 1.3.2 (CoreAudioToolbox.dll is kept in the Apple Application Support program files), there's a few possible workarounds.
    (1) Change your importing prefs to use a different encoding (won't help with the device syncing variation though), and/or don't use the option to convert to 128 kbps AAC when syncing.
    (2) Replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a 7.9.3.0 as per:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12576816#12576816
    (3) Or, replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a shadow copy of a 7.9.3.0 as per:

  • ITunes crashes when sync'ng my iPods

    Hello All,
I'm recently experiencing problems when I ask iTunes to sync with my ipods. It starts transfering music when suddenly a message saying iTunes stopped working and will be closed followed by a message stating that Windows is looking for a resolution an will inform when it is available.
I suspect that a recent registry cleaning process may be the root cause for this, however the problem persists even after I hve reinstalled iTunes 10.1 from sctrach.
    Any Help?

Please help, Im tired of listening to music while running!!!!!

    Hi Alpo2788,
If you are having an issue with iTunes becoming unresponsive when attempting to sync content such as podcasts to your iPod shuffle, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • Itunes freezes when syncing ipod classic 160GB

I just downloaded the new itunes 1.6.1 and everytime i try to sync my ipod classic it gets about a tenth of the way through syncing the songs then completely freezes, i have to exit using task manager and it leaves me with no songs on my ipod. I've tried resetting my ipod and such but none of it has worked, i've spent the last 3 hours looking for a solution but there is nothing out there, please help!!!

Try connecting the iPod Classic to a different USB port set (like the ones on the back of your PC), and make sure you're connecting it directly to the PC, not through a USB hub (like the ones built into keyboards or monitors).  If iTunes still freezes, run Windows Update and make sure you update all of the hardware drivers for your PC, especially ones marked "Chipset" or "USB Controller".  Frequently, when iTunes freezes mid-sync with a USB device, it's because of an error with your USB controller or that set of ports.  The steps above should get you syncing properly again.
If that doesn't work, try connecting your iPod Classic to another PC and sync some songs to it.  If iTunes freezes there as well, it may be a problem with your iPod Classic (unlikely, but possible), and would warrant a Genius Bar appointment.
    Hope this helps.

  • Itunes freezes when Syncing ipod

Recently, I have updated to the newest version of Itunes.  When I attempted to sync my ipod (80GB classic), itunes froze.  I had to force a shut down and when my ipod ejected, all the songs were gone.  I managed to get my ipod to restore factory settings, but now it will not sync more than 600 songs.  Once it hits about this threshold, itues freezes and the 'syncing' icon on my ipod switches the the 'connected' icon, but itunes continues to try and sync until it freezes.
I have attempted to add music manually and in different orders to see if it is a particular song causing the crash, but regardless of the order, once it hits about 600 songs, down goes everything.  I have to force a shut down, which effectively erases all the songs, and start over again.
Any thoughts on how to break the 600 barrier?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Trash. Relaunch the application and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

    Can anyone help?

I ran Repair Permissions on my MBP hard drive and this corrected the problem.  My iPhone now syncs perfectly with iTunes. I was about to, at the suggestion of Apple Support, remove iTunes and reinstall the program.  But I thought I would try the old "standby" Apple cure (Repair Permissions) first.  And it worked!! Hope this helps others with similar problems.
And, oh, BTW, if your iPhone 3GS battery dies, try charging it up with the AC adapter firstI think this whole problem started when I plugged in my dead iPhone into my MBP with iTunes running and iTunes, and/or the Mac didn't like it.  FYI.
