ITunes-Front Row info sync

I've ripped a couple of TV shows into iTunes and updated all the information on the files but when I open Front Row the TV shows appear as unknown. Any ideas whats wrong?

If I try to move avi and xvid to itunes. They will not import.
I assume this is the case becuase itunes is only allowing files into itunes lib that will sync and play on a vid ipod?
Close... Quicktime has to be able to support the formats for them to be accepted into iTunes.

  • Itunes / Front Row mp4 and avi and xvid

    Hello.
I have started collecting and moving my videos to my macbook.
From my linux/windows days I have avi xvid/divx files.
I have divx player installed on my mac and those files play fine if I click on them.
They also will play if I put them in my movie folder and use front row.
If I try to move avi and xvid to itunes. They will not import.
I assume this is the case becuase itunes is only allowing files into itunes lib that will sync and play on a vid ipod?
However with the move to appleTV and such there are those that are going to want a HQ video that maynot sync on ipod.
Basicly, I just need to know what format I need to start experimenting as far as size/quality ratio so that I can move my vids to that format.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Is it possible to play one music video after another in itunes/front row?

Hi all. Can anyone help me with this problem? When I use the movie part of front row to watch and listen to music vids I have front row goes back to the movie menu after each video has ended. Is it at all possible to watch one video after another without having to scroll down to the next music video after each music video has finished playing? Not sure if im being incredibly dense but any help would be greatly appreciated. I have Apple Care and they have no idea what im on about!
    Thanks Rob

I've been doing some experimenting on this. I made a smart playlist in iTunes to gather all my music videos (which I have previously tagged with 'VIDEO' in the comment field).
In Frontrow, iTunes will not play the video at all- it just shows a single frame and plays the audio; in Movies, music videos, it will play one music video correctly, but then go back to the music video menu. This seems to be a known problem.
My solution is to go back to the desktop and use iTunes in the old fashioned way! Selecting my new VIDEO smart playlist will play all my music videos in any order I like using the normal parameters i.e. random, alphabetical by artist, album, name etc..
    Hope this helps.

  • Itunes/front row Authorization Issue

THis is the first time i al very upset with an apple software. One week into the use of my new Macbook I was extremely thrilled to see the Front Row app running with the remote. I decided to import the mostly used Audio CDs that I have (originals) and imported them in MP3.
I hook up my Macbook to my home theater, sit down, use the neat little remote, and my music won't play
"Computer not authorized to play this track".
So now what? What can I do to play my tracks?
    Paul

You are trying to a play a track that was purchased from the iTunes store. Just open iTunes and try to play the track again. It will prompt you for the user name and password that were used when the track was purchased. It will then authorize playback on that computer and then should play fine.
Any tracks you import yourself from CDs don't need authorization.

  • Stom Mac Mini from sleeping when iTunes/Front Row is playing

Just like the title says ..
When I play music through front row/iTunes, the computer still sleeps. This is not the case when playing videos. I've looked everywhere for setting to change this, but can't seem to find it.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Blue

It's not the computer but the monitor that falls asleep when using iTunes.
You can change this in syspreferences, energy saving.
Sleeping of monitors is suppressed when you watch videos in full screen mode.

  • ITunes & Front Row

I recently did a fresh install of leopard and followed the process of copying/ backing up my whole iTunes folder and then replacing the iTunes folder within ~/music after the fresh install. iTunes opened up as I had left it before. Sweet!
I opened Front Row yesterday to watch a TV episode that I had downloaded and it cannot find anything in my iTunes library! Music nor movies. I'm newish to Mac. Has the replacing of my iTunes folder caused problems? Do I need to direct Front Row to my iTunes Folder (although its in the place that it should be)? Do i need to do anything with plists?
    Hope you can help.
I hope I have done right by posting this here. I did check out the front row board and i didn't know if it was an itunes problem rather than front row.

found out solution myself. updated front row

  • Getting back my iTunes/Front Row partnership

Does anyone know a way to keep the music I start in Front Row to continue playing in iTunes when I exit Front Row as in past versions? Also, vice versa... I like using Front Row to play music when we have people over and the main problem is that I can't use Airtunes with Front Row
Am I missing some sort of setting somewhere?

Did you back up your files before wiping the MBP? If not, everything is gone. Apple does not provide for a second free download. It has been reported that sometimes will they allow for a once in a liftime occasion to download a second time but it is totally at their discretion. They specifically say the user is responsible for backing up their own files.
If you did back up, what procedure did you use?
Uh, technically rebooting a computer isn't rebuilding it, it's just restarting the computer.

  • ITunes + Front Row + New Sorting Tags = suck

Well...maybe it's not broken, but it's annoying. I LOVE the new sorting tags. But they don't apply in Front Row. Is this the same for everyone else? Does anyone have a workaround?

I've had to take my seasons (southpark) and actually separate them by seasons in iTunes rather than have them all grouped under Southpark. In iTunes under TV Shows each season is listed as Southpark Season 1 for the show name.
If I didn't do this then they all were grouped together when viewing.

  • HD movies good in iTunes/Front Row, not on Apple TV :(

I have a library of 100+ HD movies, all of which play fine on my MacBook with 2GB RAM. Out of the group, only 30 show up on the Apple TV, and of those, only 4 play audio along with the video.
    Any ideas?
    Setup:
    - Apple TV 40GB, current software
    - Connected to Panasonic plasma via component & analog audio
    - Late 2007 MacBook, 10.5.6, 2GB RAM
    - iTunes 8.whatever, the latest
    - iTunes library stored on external 1TB WD MyBook

Happy to report after much trial-and-error, I've been able to convert 80% of my videos using Handbrake (as MKVs, MOVs, and M4Vs). Here's the specs for those who are interested:

  • Interrupted music on iTunes & Front Row.

After playing music for a while it begins to freeze & other systems suffer an operating lag. Is extended use (especially at maximum volume) causing a power drain that effects software efficiency? Should I get external speakers?

In iTunes preferences select "advance" and change the default iTunes directory.

  • IPod and Front Row refuse additons to "TV Shows" Videos Category

I am having a problem where videos that I add to the "TV Shows" category of videos in iTunes refuse to upload to the same category on my iPod or in Front Row. When I add videos to iTunes (properly encoded for playback in iTunes, Front Row and on the Fifth Generation iPod) they automatically go into "Movies". If it's a music video, I'll go into "Get Info" for the file and change the "Video Kind" to "Music Video" and it will change to be in the "Music Video" category of videos in iTunes. Then, in Front Row and on the iPod, it will show up under "Music Videos" also. However, if I change "Video Kind" to "TV Shows" for a file I want to be in the "TV Shows" Category, it will move into that category in iTunes, but not in Front Row or on my iPod. It will move out of "Movies" on the iPod, but the only place it will show up on the iPod is under Video Playlists > Recently Added. Anyone else have this problem? It seems weird that I can add videos to "Movies" and "Music Videos" in Front Row and on the iPod, but not "TV Shows". If I want a video that is a tv show to show up on the iPod or in Front Row (other than the "Recently Added" playlist), I can only add it to "Movies".

    I know I don't have one.
But its the mechanism that is the same - its the stik atom that controls it. Apple/iTunes doesn't let you SET that piece of information. Yes, you can take any video file and in iTunes set it to "TV Show", but delete the file from iTunes and re-add it. Is it still a "TV Show"? No, because that information is only set in the iTunes database that other applications use - like FrontRow.
The stik atom controls whether iTunes sees it in the first place as a "TV Show". The principle should be the same on the iPod. Using AtomicParsley, the actual data that Apple embeds in its iTMS video files can be seen - its called metadata. For example, in my free episode of Monk, the word "Monk" only appears a few places in the file. And with the exception of 1 place where it has to be happenstance in the actual video stream where its "MoNk", it only appears in the metadata.
iTunes doesn't let you set lots of information - can you set "Album Artist"? No, because Apple doesn't provide for it. How about description? Well, yes, but only through Applescript. For the new TV show stuff - the only current way is through the use of AtomicParsley. There is also a hack for the iPod called mrtvpod if you want to try that.

  • Front Row plays audio but not video of MP4 H264 AAC files

    SL 10.6.6
    Here's the problem:
Take an MP4 movie file encoded with H264 and AAC thats plays with no problems in QT, iTunes, Front Row
Open this file in QT7Pro, add a mask using a GIF file then export as MP4 using video and audio pass through to avoid re-encoding
The new video file plays OK in QT and iTunes but only plays the audio track in Front Row - the video is just presented as a blank screen
This happens to every file i've tried it with.
I've tried trashing all front row caches/prefs/app support folders, installing/uninstalling/re-installing perian. i've tried changing the file extension to .mov .m4v .3gp - still the same problem the file plays perfectly except in Front Row
All the posts I can find on this topic seem to refer to subtitles causing a problem - these files have no subtitle track
    Any suggestions?

I have faced the same problem exactly. Some seasons and one movie I have detected so far, do not show any video at all. If I open the same files in iTunes, they show ok. If I open the same files in QuickTime thought no video also. I guess it has something to do with QuickTime then. Try it yourselves in order to see if it is the same problms with you guys. If that is the case I will try to extract an older version of QuickTime from the installation package via Pacifist and see if that works.
Even if it doesn't work I am pretty sure they will come up with a new update fixing this, but the point is that Apple isn't used in making bugged updates, up until recent. What is wrong with them lately?
Anyway, as soon as I have news in the afternoon I will let you know

I too have the same problem.  The audio drop out of sync in about 5 sec in not uncommon for the audio to be 30+ sec behind video.  Apple needs to fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   its a joke,  my iphone is all messed up after the last update as well.  at one time not to long ago apple products and software were top rated, not so much any more, more and more problems are showing up and apple is unwilling or unalbe to fix the many issues.  Apple needs to fix the audio sync problem, it not the computer hardware or other software it ITUNES!!!!,  there is no workaround other then hitting pause and hitting pause and hitting pause to temp fix the problem.

  • ITunes and Front-Row no longer in Sync

Since I moved my whole iTunes library to an external drive, Front-Row is no longer showing if a TV Show is new or not. And it won't update the iTunes counter for that show. The video-podcasts are working correctly. When I download a new one, it shows as new (with a blue mark) on front-row. But not the new TV-Shows I downloaded. I'm using Tiger, Mini-Mac Intel and Front-Row 1.x
The iTunes library is still at my internal drive, I just moved the Music folder to the external drive, and setup iTunes to read from there. Front-Row does show everything correctly, but its not in sync with iTunes.
    Thanks for any help.
