ITunes Frustration

First of all, the "iTunes music card" button won't work, so I can't use my iTunes gift card. Second, when I try to download something, it says that I lost my net connection. Someone told me to use McAfee privacy serveice- but I don't have that on my computer, and for some reason it won't download! Please help

And FYI, a bit of background on what the Playlists are --
The Playlists are really just indexes to your song files - pointers to the song data, not copies of the songs themselves. So feel free to create (and change and delete) as many customized playlists as you wish - the songs will still remain in your "Library". Just keep track of what is highlighted in the left 'Source' column.
Further, to that, your physical songs will stay where ever they were when you created them, or imported them to iTunes. They can be anywhere on your hard drive, or on external HD even, as well as the Apple default location of ~user/Music . The only caveat is if you have the iTunes Preferences-Advanced set to 'Copy files to iTunes Music folder..." in which case iTunes will quietly copy all songs you add to its Music folder.
This may be perhaps more info than you asked, but eventually you will want to know these details as well...
Usually the Apple help system is decent (I know it is often better than my experiences with Microsoft web help), but as you've found in this example, sometimes you just need someone who has done what you wish to give a clear explanation. 8^) Thus the wonderful users on Apple Discussions.

  • ITunes frustratingly slow with NAS

I've been having the same usability problems with iTunes since I moved all of my media files to a NAS device (DNS-321) over a year ago. itunes has become almost cripplingly slow. It takes almost 5 mins to start, and then regularly hangs so that I cannot click on any items for 1 to 5 mins at a time. I've given up using it as a music player and primarily use it to sync my iPhone, but I can't even adjust the settings without waiting for itunes to respond. Syncing the phone takes about 30 mins without any input.
Is anyone else having the same issue or have a solution? I'm using a Core i5 Windows 7 machine with 8 gb of memory.

    Hello,
I posted on another thread, but thought I would post here too.  After much frustration with my NAS, iTunes library and Windows 7 x64 install, I finally did what I was too lazy to do in the past and uninstalled Itunes 10.4.1.10 and all of its associated programs (iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update) on my Windows 7 x64 system.  Be sure to rename your profile's "c:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes" folder to something like "iTunes_old".  I then rebooted my system,  downloaded iTunes 9.2.1 (http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes9/061-8727.20100722.Cde32/iTunes64Setup.exe) and installed it.  I added (File - Add Folder To Library) my iTunes folder on my NAS and let it sync.  Once that was complete I ran "Start - All Programs - Apple Software Update" and installed the latest version of iTunes that it presented.  Once I did that, VOILA, it works fine with no pausing, freezing, BSOD .... nothing!  Everything worked fine with iTunes 9.2.1, but I wanted the new functionality that iTunes 10 offered so it seems installing a fresh copy of iTunes 10.x.x on a new system will not work, at least in my experience.  It seems that we need to install iTunes 9.2.1 first and then upgrade to 10.x.x.  Best of luck!  :-)

  • ITunes Frustrations!!!!

My husband and I have been struggling with this iTunes ...
The first time after re-starting our computer, iTunes seems to deal OK with my iPod. Recognizes it, updates it etc. Then, I'll correctly unplug my iPod, go back and start up iTunes with my iPod plugged in, and I get a message saying that the iPod software was not correctly installed, I need to re-install it.
I've re-installed iTunes after re-installing it twice already, but every other time I try to use iTunes with my iPod, I get this message. It's ANNNNNNNOOOYYYYIIIINNNNGGG!
I can't figure out how to get this to stop. Just want to play!
    Thanks for your help!

Hey Terry thx for the response.
Yes frustrating indeed. Today is my oldest daughters 11th Bday and I was trying to download a few of her fav. songs for her have at her sleep over party tonight. I decided to download the whole Fall Out Boy album. Well it deducted the money from out account but we have nothing to show for it. Nothing in the Ipod/Itune library, nothing on the ipod and I also did a search for the album on my computer itself but there is nothing at all.
I emailed Itunes last night about not knowing how to download single songs and also emailed them this morning telling them that when searching for an artist no single songs list for purchase only full album purchases. No response as of yet.
I also called apple 1-800- 275- 2273 and waited for 23 minutes (thank god for speaker phone) before recieveing assistance. She toldme basically that it was a itune problem and to wait for their response via feedback/email.
I dont really know what to say or think. My daughter really wanted an "IPOD" but I myself have much more user friendly mp3 players. I am seriously thinking about returning the IPOD and the 200.00 in itune gift cards we purchased.
It feels like a big sham. I have nothing to show for the "Fall Out Boy" album I purchsed for 9.99. Even though she only wanted one song I figured somehting would be better than nothing but we still have nothing -9.99 of course. Im seriously confused but thx again for the help!
    have a nice day!

  • Cannot burn cd's from itunes - frustrated to say the least

I have created a playlist from cd's of my own and a few from itunes. I bring up the playlist and click on the burn cd circle and it asks to "insert a blank cd". After I do so and close the door it then says "checking media". After a minute or so it spits the cd out for a few seconds and the cd door closes again and then nothing. I tried to change the burn speed to 4 and it did nothing. I've tried to use different cd's. I've updated all drivers to no avail. It worked one time before after several attempts, but that's it. • Getting Music on new iTunes frustration

So I downloaded the most recent update for iTunes last night and eventually go it to download.  Now today I am trying to put all my music back into iTunes since I had to uninstall my old one but none of the things I tried will actually work. This is the same computer I have used iTunes on for years now.  I haven't had an issue with iTunes and putting music on before now.  My disc drive isn't working right so I can't use that otherwise I probably wouldn't be having issues right now. Help!

One of the new features in iTunes 7 is allowing the iPod (has to be version 1.2 for Video iPod I think).
Authorize your new computer (when you put iTunes 7 on it after you get it) by going to Store -> Authorize Computer. Put in your store details and Authorize.
Then, connect your iPod and go to File -> Transfer Purchases from "(iPod Name)" and it will put all the purchased music from your iPod to your new computer.
For your other music, just turn disk use on for your iPod. To do that, go into your iPod Summary page and check 'Enable Disk Use'.
Then select all your non-bought music in iTunes and copy it into your iPod (if you have Windows it will show in My Computer).
Then just copy and paste it from your iPod to your other computer through My Computer.
Hope this isn't confusing and helps!

  • Using iTunes *just* to transfer music to the iPod?

    More iTunes frustrations...
As my original hard disk is nearly full, I've installed a second hard drive (let's call it G:); this is where I intend to keep my music files for use by my Squeezebox.
Before installing iTunes, I copied the contents of My Music to G:\My Music. The idea was to let iTunes loose on the original set, doing whatever it has to; then transfer the results to the iPod; then delete the original set and (somehow!) persuade iTunes to leave them on the iPod. After this, I would put files onto the iPod by transcoding FLAC files in G: to mp3 files somewhere else, then dragging them onto the iPod; then deleting them from the hard disk. (I'm not bothered about having anything in sync with the iPod.)
This is now beginning to look like a forlorn dream .
First problem: when I installed iTunes, I am pretty **** sure I told it only to look in My Documents\My Music; yet it seems to be full of references to files on G:. Curiously, only a selective set, not even all tracks from some albums; it's as if it populated itself by reading playlists rather than folders. (Yet I've checked: none of my playlists under My Documents refers to G:) So why on earth did it add files from G: to its library?
Second problem: I told iTunes not to convert my WMA files during setup. This would create AAC copies in my iTunes folder, and my disc is nearly full. But iTunes still added the WMA files to its library; and now whenever I sync with the iPod, iTunes hangs for about 10 minutes while it works out that it can't transfer all these WMA files. Is there an easy way to delete them from iTunes? I do NOT want to have to go through track-by-track, as there are several thousand of them.
Third problem: for use with the Squeezebox, I've added artwork to each album as a JPEG file in the album folder. For the many albums I have that are not found in the iStore, all I seem to be able to do is to select all the tracks of each album, do Get Info, then drag the JPEG into the Artwork box. Again, this isn't something I want to have to do for several hundred albums. Is there really no way to tell iTunes to get the artwork for each album from a file in the album folder?
Fourth problem: I thought that I could select a large number of tracks and do "Get Artwork" from the iStore, so at least some of the above tedium could be avoided. But if I select more than a screenful or two of tracks (in the with-artwork view), then Get Artwork just hangs after 5 albums or so. I can still use iTunes for other things, but now Get Artwork won't work until I quit iTunes and restart.
Fifth problem: trying to switch the iPod to "manually managed" has resulted in its entire contents being replaced with one album when I dragged-and-dropped it onto the iPod icon. (See my earlier post on this.)
Sixth problem: if - as it looks - iTunes did populate itself by reading my .m3u playlists, why didn't it recreate the playlists themselves? I've built up a large number of playlists for use with both the Squeezebox and our Zens, so it'll be a pain to have to recreate those by hand in iTunes. Can it really not do this?
I'm seriously considering uninstalling iTunes, wiping its library, then doing whatever it takes to make sure that it only finds music when I want it to! But I thought I was already doing that; and I don't plan to go through very many wipe-and-restart iterations!
Yes, this looks like a bit of a moaning list; but I need to decide fairly quickly whether I'm going to return my iPod because it doesn't fit in with how I want to organise and use my music. (I also need to test the iPod itself to see if it fits my requirements as a player; there are some surprising shortcomings compared to my old Zen Touch, but it's possible I just haven't learned the interface yet.)
Perhaps I should consider trying something other than iTunes, such as Anapod; might it be a better match for my requirements? (My wife and I already use Notmad for our Zens, and think it's far better than Creative's own tools.)

Second problem: I told iTunes not to convert my WMA
files during setup. This would create AAC copies in
my iTunes folder, and my disc is nearly full. But
iTunes still added the WMA files to its library; and
now whenever I sync with the iPod, iTunes hangs for
about 10 minutes while it works out that it can't
transfer all these WMA files. Is there an easy way
to delete them from iTunes? I do NOT want to have to
go through track-by-track, as there are several
    thousand of them.
OK, answering one of my own questions: I realised that I can add a "Kind" column to the tracks view, then order on that. This puts all the WMA tracks together, so I can select them all and then hit Delete.
If only the remainder didn't look so few.
I've yet to see what will happen when I sync my iPod...

  • Why doesn't iCloud recognize changes I make to update my iTunes Library?

    ?? iCloud   ~   HELP!   ~  iTunes??
    ?? iPhone ??
    What am I MISSING Here?
iCloud and iTunes frustrate me beyond belief every time I manually clean up
    and iTunes on my PC
Does anyone out there have a solution to the following?
Why does iCloud intrepret reorganized files as additional files?
iCloud interprets my manually edited and reorganized files in iTunes as NEW additions rather than deletions...
...Therefore, every time I open itunes software, plug my iPhone into my PC and sync my iPhone via iCloud...
...iCloud downloads a horrible pile up of mega gigabite duplicates, triplicates, plus, plus, plus, to my iPhone!!!
How can I make my own permant edits, deletions and changes to contents backed up in iCloud storage if I cannot even view whats being stored there????

    Nancy,
Did you ever get an answer? I also downloaded a TV season pass but am unable to see the episodes on either ITUNES or AppleTV. I received the email notification for a new episode but it still does not download. When I go to ITUNES, I am told all episodes have been downloaded. Can anyone help?

  • HT3576 iphone is disabled connect to itunes HOW????

i have connected my phone to the computer and nothing. phone still reads disabled connect to iTunes. frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, my iPhone 4S got fixed by itself after about 5 hours being disabled. A "friend" was trying to break into it. Here's what I did. I connected it to the iTunes computer I always connect it to. My only option was to restore it, but I had not backed it up for months, so I decided to at least copy my pictures. I was using iPhone Browser to copy all my pictures (about 10.5GB) so I left it alone and went to watch TV while copying.  When I came back to my computer to check the copy progress I checked my iPhone as well and the DISABLED message was gone and I was able to login again!    YEAH!  So I guess it's just a matter of time, from the moment it got locked till' it was good again was about 5 hours. Anyone with the same experience please confirm so we know what the fix is.  Thanks!

  • I want to back up (NOT sync) my iphone calendar to my PC. Last time I lost my entire calendar. How can I avoid this?

I find the term 'sync' maddeningly imprecise and iTunes frustratingly counter-intuitive. So here's the situation: iPhone calendar - bulging; Outlook calendar - zilch. I want to back up FROM iPhone TO PC. Last time I tried this it seems the blank Outlook calendar over-wrote my iPhone calendar. Result - tears before bedtime.
Also I keep getting the message: 'The information on the iPhone... is synced with another user account. Do you want to sync this iPhone with the information from this user account instead?' (What is a 'user account'? How can I find out what the iPhone was previously synced with? And does it matter?).
It then asks whether I want to 'Merge Info' or 'Replace Info', with a button provided for each of these choices.
Thus there are three questions, with buttons capable of answering only the last two. How do I indicate 'no' to question number one?
I'm totally confused and scared stiff of losing everything on my iPhone calendar. At present I am accepting the possible loss of my iPhone as being a lesser risk than my failure to understand these incomprehensible instructions and make the wrong choice.
    Can anyone help, please?

It doesn't matter if your password isn't working. you can change Apple ID here

  • I want to Sync my iPhone 4 to iTunes however I get an error message from iTunes each time I connect the phone to the PC saying that I should restore to factory settings. Frustrating because it's already annoying enough that I can't drag and drop mp3's!!!

I have never been so frustrated before in my life with any phone. I find it obnoxious as it is that I cannot simply drag and drop files (especially MP3's) straight from my PC directly into my phone, which I have been used to doing up until now. Everyone who convinced me to get the iPhone has instructed me that my frustration can be fixed by downloading iTunes and syncing it all up via that program (which I have never used before). So, I downloaded the program successfully, however when I connect the iPhone 4 to the PC and iTunes is open, I get an error message that 'iTunes cannot read the content of the iPhone "iPhone" and that I should go to the Preferences tab of the iPhone and select 'restore' to restore this phone to factory settings. First of all, I don't understand why I need to do that. I have already downloaded apps and other important things in the 2 days that I have the phone. I am also scared that it will erase my contacts. This is such a headache. Music is very imporatant to me, but I am getting so frustrated that I don't have freedom over the phone which I thought was supposed to be one of the best out there. I would really appreciate help in this matter. I am sure the phone is great but I am on the verge of taking it back and getting something else.

    Hey joshuafromisr,
If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:

  • Why is iTunes so frustrating and un-user friendly?

    Hi all,
I switched from an android phone and table to the iPad and iPhone about 6 months ago and cannot believe how much easier to use they are. I've not had one single issue with Apple's hardware and honestly don't think I could live without my iPad, it's my TV, my library, my stereo, my PC. I use it for absolutely everything.
However, iTunes for Windows is one of the worst pieces of software I have ever used. I have a 2.6ghz laptop with 8gb of ram running Windows 7. iTunes is constantly hanging up my system, crashing to the desktop, taking hours to do a simple sync and tonight I have encountered an issue where iTunes is refusing to import the mp3s I have asked it to.
I have booked a call for tomorrow morning regarding the latter issue, but I really just want to know why iTunes isn't as good as their hardware. It really ruins my user experience with my Apple products. How can they get their hardware so right and their software so wrong? The maddening thing is that unless I jailbreak my products I have absolutely no choice but to use iTunes to get content onto my devices.
I've done a Google search on iTunes problems and there literally thousands and thousands of people who have been experiencing these issues year after year. Funnily enough it appears to be Windows users that suffer the most, iTunes seems to run as you would expect it to on Macs.
I'm so frustrated that if my play around with my friends new Google Nexus tablet goes well at the weekend I may sell my iPad and iPhone and return to android, that is of course if the Nexus can do what my iPad can do, and do it well.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how to make iTunes work better or have any insight into the reason why Apple does not seem to be listening to the thousands of people complaining about the iTunes software? Any input would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
A very frustrated and disappointed iPad lover!

I totally agree. I have been an avid apple user, iPhones, iPad, iTouch, iMac and apple tv... until I get to try Samsung Note 4 and was surprised how easy to configure everything. Apple keeps on changing the set up for itunes in so many ways that busy people really don't have time to sit down and learn with it. My last iPad 4th Generation will be the last for this and will jump into Android. There are more problems that I don't have time to elaborate but if people will see the difference, they will surely give up Apple and jump into Android. The hardware quality of apple and the battery life has been noticeably diminishing. The issue on Audiobooks purchased has remained one of the problems for apple users. You can't just download the audiobooks you already purchased easily each time there is an update on the OS. I have done my research and I see a lot of people facing problems with this. If you want apple.. you should have the time to sit down and update always the software, learn the new things that keeps on changing for the better but most often conflicts with other applications that they need to ask you to download again the newest firmware and so on until you realize the gadget that is supposed to give you convenience and comfort is now taking so much of your time and will be part of your routine. On the other side, Android is not restricted... it is merely like an external gadget attached to your computer. And that makes a huge difference. I hope Apple will hear this and make iTunes not a requirement to transfer files from computer to your gadget. TIME is valuable to us as well, what is comfort and convenience if you spend most of your time attached to your gadget just because you need to keep up with it. A quarterly update or twice a year update with a specified date should be an answer to this... We should be in control of our gadgets and not be controlled by it. Apple is in control of the user... while Android users are not enslave with the gadget but controls on how we want to use them. Huge difference on that perspective.

  • Why can't i add playlists to my iPhone from my mac while they are connected? I keep getting the following message "some items (meaning all of them) were not transferred because iTunes match is enabled." This is incredibly frustrating.

I keep getting the following message "some items (meaning all of them) were not transferred because iTunes match is enabled." when I try to drag and drop a playlist, song, or album to my iPhone. This was NEVER a problem before iTunes match or the last iOS update. So what is the deal? Why can't i just add music to my phone from the mac? There is space on the phone. The only way I have found to get the music i want to the phone is to have it download from the phone. This is not something i want to have to do: go through and manually add every album and recreate a playlist on the phone when its there on the mac. And, even more irritating, since the new update, when the phone is plugged into the mac i can't actually view from the mac what music is on the phone. This is incredibly frustrating and any help would be much appreciated in managing my music libraries for each device.

    Hi,
You cannot manually manage music with match turned on on your iOS device. If you want to manage music manually, you will need to turn off match on your iPhone.

On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.
