ITunes Functionality Suggestions

Can Apple add the following suggestions to the 'wish list' for iTunes:
1) Stop ctl & click on tick box selecting/deselecting all tracks - this short cut is easily used by accident when selecting tracks for editing and effectively erases all previously selected tracks for syncing (so blooming annoying!). Selection of all tracks can be acheived by ctl/a anyway.
2) The option to store all selected tracks within iTunes. Preferably with multiple list storage (bit like a playlist). This can then be used to restore previous library selctions for syncing. This would be particularly useful if syncing with more than one iPod.
If anyone knows how to achieve these within the current product, please let me know.

  • Migrating/recreating existing iTunes functionality on a new drive

I have an apparently-unusual and somewhat complicated problem. I have two drives on my PC, and iTunes is currently installed on my (now-too-small) C drive. I want to get rid of "everything iTunes" on my C drive to free up much-needed space there, and either create or re-create my existing iTunes functionality, but on my G drive. That is, I don't want to have to "re-teach" a new installation of iTunes where everything is and where everything goes, if possible.
A great deal of my media libraries are not located in iTunes' C-drive folders, and are housed on my G drive. I really really don't want to have to add all those songs back into my libraries and playlists manually. But a fair chunk of my podcasts, music, movies and so on are contained within iTunes' various folders on the C drive. So to preserve them, I copied the "iTunes" folder from "C:/Documents and Settings/Owner/My Documents/My Music/iTunes" to my G drive root directory, renaming it simply "iTunes". I then redirected my existing C-drive iTunes installation to recognize this folder, changing it via "Edit >Preferences >Advanced >iTunes Media Folder location >change". (However, as a test, I renamed my C-drive iTunes folder to make sure that iTunes really was looking to my G-drive copy of the folder, and iTunes promptly lost track of everything, all my libraries, DL'ed music and movies, etc. I undid the renaming, and everything showed up hunky-dory again. So even though I told iTunes to look to the G drive folder for this information, some part(s) of it are still using the C-drive folders for it.)
So. Is it possible to somehow transfer my C-drive iTunes' knowledge of where all my media files are on my computer, which songs are in which playlists and so on, to a new G-drive install of iTunes? The media files themselves aren't moving--iTunes would be. I would also need my idevices' backups to locate themselves on the G-drive, and my future purchases to download there as well. As a lesser issue, is there any trickiness about deleting the existing C-drive installation of iTunes without mucking up the G-drive install, once I get the G-drive install up and running properly? (I'm reluctant to create a new install of an existing program until I have some idea of whether the two would interact.)
I have searched this procedure a couple of different times using Google, but haven't been able to find a reliable set of instructions addressing this particular situation. I find it hard to believe that no-one else has experienced this problem before, but I can't seem to find any record of how to solve it.

Cool... Earlier in the thread you mentioned that you'd also got media scattered around the G: drive. In the long run you'll find the next transition will be much smoother if you consolidate this media into your *G:\iTunes\iTunes Media* folder. Consolidate makes copies of the files that are outside the iTunes folder inside the iTunes folder so you'll either need to have enough room to afford to temporarily double up these files or, if that's a problem, you can do it in batches. You can consolidate everything in one go using *Library > Organise Library > Consolidate files*, alternatively select group of files, right-click on them and click Consolidate to do it in stages.
I'm assuming at this stage that you're happy with letting iTunes organise the files. If you prefer to keep your own layout (perhaps you've put certain genres in their own folders or prefer longer file/folder names than iTunes uses) then it is possible to get things organised in a way that is both under your control but also portable, however it requires a script to relocate the files as moving by hand and relinking is tedious.
An advantage of getting everything organised inside the one set of folders is that your library can be easily reconnected if the drive letter changes. It is also possible to use a tool like SyncToy 2.1 to clone the library to another hard drive or network share for backup purposes, knowing that the backup will ready to use straight away should the need arise. A working backup is as important as knowing where your your towel is...

    Hi lindaasw,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Do you have the latest version of iTunes for Windows installed?  I would turn on the sidebar and the menu bar just to make sure you are seeing everything.  If the iPhone is still not recognized in iTunes, follow these troubleshooting steps:

Sounds like the CD drive died. Luckily they cost next to nothing to replace. Or get an external LaCie instead. I have a dual G4 1.25 and the CD drive was always so anemic I use a LaCie Porsche with it.

  • I'm getting an error code 9 when trying to restore apple tv 2 thru iTunes any suggestions?

I'm getting an error code 9 when trying to restore apple tv 2 thru iTunes any suggestions?  the error comes up when itunes tries to verify the update.  I hook the apple tv back to tv and says I need to connect to itunes.  the original problem was the power went out and the apple tv light kept blinking.  I tried restarting it but would not work.  Any Suggetstions?  Thank you.

Try again tomorrow.  All Apple servers are undergoing a huge number of hits.  I think tomorrow or even the next day, all upgrade and activation servers will be in better shape.
Any time millions of people want to do exactly the same thing online, there's always trouble, LOL.

Hi, in my older Itunes version next to my library I had Itunes "Genius" suggesting songs. I don't have it anymore. Hpw do I reset it?

Go to iTunes prefs, general, Genius checkbox. It should be checked if you want it. Is it? If so, go to the Sidebar and look for Genius (should appear near SHARED or ITUNES DJ). Click it. Does it have a button for "turn on Genius"? If so, click that.

  • IPod Classic won't sync and crashes iTunes. Suggestions?

Hi, hopefully someone can help me!
I have a 80GB iPod classic for 3/4 years, never had any syncing issues until now that weren't fixable by a reset.
However a few days ago I was at my parents' house and charged my iPod using their computer. The first time there was the standard message "This iPod is synced with another library" etc etc but subsequently it crashed iTunes. It was recognised by the computer as a portable media device, all the normal folders were there etc.
Now that I'm with my regular laptop, I'm having the same issues but have realised that the iPod won't sync. It crashes iTunes when it's connected and when I disconnect the iPod, should iTunes works but it displays the message: "The iPod cannot be synced. The required folder could not be found"
Any suggestions on how to fix this? I've tried updated my iTunes software and resetting the iPod (pushing menu and centre), but neither has had an effect.
Edit: I should add that since charging the iPod on the other computer, I have also had issues with the click wheel, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
    Thanks in advance!

  • AppleTV no longer appearing in iTunes.  Suggestions?

Let me start off this post by saying that I work as a computer programmer, so I'm not unfamiliar with following support guides, etc. So with that said, please don't tell me to follow Apple Support for this, as I've done every single step out there.
I have a new AppleTV connected to my TV via HDMI. Everything was up and running just fine, I had over 100 gigs of music synced up to it, and then, after the latest iTunes 7.3 upgrade, it stopped recognising the device.
I have tried everything at this point, short of completely reinstalling the OS.
    Closed & reopened iTunes, check.
    Reinstall iTunes, check.
    Restart computer, check.
    Reboot router, check.
    Try a different router, check.
Force DHCP release & renew, check.
Restore ATV to factory spec, check.
    Pick new iTunes library, check.
Turn on port forwarding for UDP 5353, etc., check.
Place computer in DMZ, turn off all anti-virus & firewalls, check.
    It just never shows up.
ATV gets on my network just fine, I can watch YouTube videos & movie trailers without a hitch, I've tried resyncing to a new iTunes library, etc., it simply doesn't work.
The only thing that has changed is iTunes, and since I cannot find an older copy, I can't try an older version to see if it appears in iTunes prior to 7.3.2 again.
Any suggestions? I am simply out of ideas and have spent hours trying to figure this out. I'm at the point where I'm about to either defenestrate it or sell it on eBay.

    Hi Brad,
I saw that thread previously, unfortunately it didn't help me.
When I go to the Sources menu on ATV, my options are "Connect to new iTunes" and "Syncing". If I select the latter, per your instructions from AppleCare, the only option I get is, "Turn On Syncing". If I select that, I get a new passcode to enter into iTunes, but ATV never appears in iTunes to enter in that code.
I do not have "Change iTunes Library" as an option.
Furthermore, the ATV tab under iTunes Preferences does not have an ATV listed in the "The following ATVS are allowed to connect to iTunes" menu.
I am at my wits end with this device, I simply haven't the patience for trying every possible combination of activities to try and make this work.
Anyone interested in a 160 GB AppleTV?

  • Basic Shopping Cart Functionality suggestion

This is really one for the ideas section.
In addition to the multiple fields on one line suggestion.
I know a fully blown shopping cart is not going to happen here as Randy has already mentioned but even some basic functionality would go a long way to providing a basic "in-form" alternative.
It would involve being able to have "total" fields that would for example add or multiple or subtract the totals of other cells in which data has been entered and would really need the multiple fields in place to be effective.
For example - a basic widgets form... maybe not so basic but shows some potentiality.
    Column A        Column B       Column C      Column D     Column E    Column F      Column G
Product            Price            Quantity         Reference     Total          Discount         Total
    Widget A           $1.00            _____            _______      $x.xx           $x.xx               $x.xx
    Widget B           $2.00            _____            _______      $x.xx           $x.xx               $x.xx
    Widget C           $3.00            _____            _______      $x.xx           $x.xx               $x.xx
    Widget D           $4.00            _____            _______      $x.xx           $x.xx               $x.xx
    Totals                                       xx                                     $x.xx           $x.xx               $x.xx
    Postage                                                                                                                      $x.xx
    Total Payable                                                                                                             $x.xx
Column B would require a new text field type that is unchangeable by the user that reads as a number.
Column E would multiply the price in B with the quantity in C
Column F might for example look at the quantity in C and calculate a 10% discount if 5 of more widgets of a particular type have been ordered
Column G would take the total in E & subtract the discount in F
The totals would add up the entries in all the above data
If someone had a second page of items, the top of the second page might have a cell option which is equal to the total of the previous page (ie let this cell=that cell)
At some point we would be able to determine what data show up on the paypal receipt and which cell has the final total for the Paypal payment.
While it doesn't have the full add to cart functionality, within the form it would do the same thing.
Fully blown shopping carts tend to be expensive & for those of us that don't need/can't afford one for what we do, this would go a long way to providing a good alternative.
To be honest I'd pay extra for this kind of thing. Adobe's doing some amazing things with the like of FormCentral,SendNow,EchoSign etc - I'd really like to see this addition considered.

Obviously it wouldn't have stuff like stock control and up, customer sign-ups with returning customer features and so on that full shopping carts have.
Would open the possibility for optional weight based shipping calculation if you assigned weights to each widget - multiply by quantity & add totals...

  • Ipod New Features and Functions Suggestions?

I'm sure with the continuous updates for the Ipod Software that there is a place where we can make suggestions but I can't find it? That said, I have an idea I would like to post so that someone from development could take under consideration. As well this could be a thread for other's ideas as I'm sure we all have them. Here we go:
    1. Wouldn't it be great if while listening to music on your iPod using the shuffle feature, if you heard a song you like, you could press a button and have it return directly to the album from where it's located. When you have 20 - 60 GB of songs, scrolling back through menus to get to artists or songs is long and painful. This would also save serious battery time, etc.
    2. How about a feature on Itunes that allows you to sort or count how many songs (and size) that you have checked versus what you don't. I have 60 gb of music but only a 20gb iPod. Currently you have to use the "Allow iPod to create a playlist" feature to select 20 GB worth of music and then edit from there.

There is a form you can use to submit suggestions for future iPods; messages submitted there will be read by the iPod engineers, while suggestions posted here may not be.

  • I get error 2324 when trying to update itunes.  Suggestions?

I get error code 2324 when trying to install the latest itunes.  Any suggestions?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • How do you make an itunes feature suggestion to Apple?

I'm trying to find a place to make an itunes feature suuggestion to Apple, but all I seem to be able to find is a "request music" link...
If this is the only place, then here is my suggestion...
I am a video editor and I use itunes to play my music, but also to audition sound effects and production music tracks. But when I do a shuffle play of my entire library, I don't really want to hear these sfx and songs (or the audiobooks I've taken from an audiobook CDs).
Therefore, I think it would be useful if there was some kind of "flag" that said "this is not a song" or "don't include in shuffle".
Alternatively, what would be great for me, is if itunes could have multiple libraries, then I could have a normal music library, a sfx and production music library and an audiobook library.
Anyway, I guess I can dream.
    Chris.

The iTunes feedback is confusing indeed. I use the general Feedback page to report bugs and to do suggestions.
They assure that the messages will be read, but you won't get a reply.
As this is a user-to-user forum, it is highly unlikely your suggestions will be read by Apple employees (except moderators).
You can exclude songs from shuffling by checking 'Skip when Shuffling' in the 'Options' tab of the Info window (Get Info of a song; shortcut: command-I)
Unfortunately, you can only do this song by song.
Using this script, you can enable/disable 'Skip when Shuffling' of all selected songs.
You could put the songs/sfx in a playlist, select them all (command-A) and run the script.
To run multiple libraries, you can choose between these two applications:
    iTunes Library Manager and Libra.
Although not real instant switchable libraries, both apps. can create multiple 'iTunes Library' files, which enables you to have separate libraries for all kinds of files.
    Hope this helps.

  • Im having a hard time setting up my mini. when im prompted to the available wifi networks, no space is given for a password nor is there a place for me to use my itunes info even though its suggesting i attempt setup using my itunes account. suggestions?

im having trouble setting up my mini. any suggestions?

"When I'm prompted to the available WiFi networks, no space is given for a password."
That's because you might end up choosing a network that does not require a password.
Choose your netowork first, then, if needed, you will be prompted for a password.
I don't understand your comment about iTunes info at all.  After you choose a network and give its password, you will be asked about Apple ID.

  • Need Itunes sync suggestions - ATV Day 2

Hello, I have tried to sync my itunes to my ATV. Not all the songs/albums are sync (it seems it is sync very slowly). It is taking forever to sync. Is this normal? How long should it take (about 500 albums - about 4000 songs). Any suggestions on making it sync faster? I am using a Wifi connection from my MacBook. Thanks

I think I can answer this one.
I take it your single first of all.
Ok Dave, when it's done loading, you'll be married and have 2 kids.
You might have come across my post 'Day 2 w/ATV'
I learned a few things in the past 30 hours. My ATV is 32Gb.
    Your model must be 40Tb.
Just to fill 32Gb took all of today constantly re-selecting content to remove to make space.
You might try an ethernet connection between the 2 devices to see if data can process faster.
I haven''t tried to confirm, but in theory it's supposed to work.
Any suggestions on making it sync faster? I am using a Wifi connection from my MacBook. Thanks DAVE
