Itunes genius with ipod songs

I don't have a lot of free hard drive space so I keep all of my music on my ipod and erase it from my computer library after transferring it over. How do I get genius to look at the music on my ipod and not my empty computer library?

can u get genius on an updated ipod or just the second generation?

Can anyone tell me how I can replace my entire iTunes music library with my iPod music?

The transfer of purchased content to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7, look under under File>"Transfer Purchases from iPod". A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others as well, they are generally quite straightforward. If your library is currently empty and your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting to iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. For the duration of the transfer change your update setting to manual so you can use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it: iTunes Keyboard Shortcuts for OSX
Whichever of these transfer methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • HT203167 I synced my ipod touch and for whatever reason I have now opened an itunes library with some songs missing. Theses songs still remain on my touch but the ipos will not sync them back on to my library!Any ideas?

I synced my ipod touch  and the library opened up with some songs missing. These songs remain on my ipod, I thought that by syncing they would return to my itunes library. But they won't. Has anyone seen this before?

You should be able to copy iTunes purchases back to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. For music purchased from other sites or copied from your own CDs then are they not already on your computer and/or on a backup ? If not then you will need to find a third-party program that can copy them off the iPod.

  • Load new computer's itunes with ipod songs

I want to load iTunes from my ipod onto a different computer than was used to originally create the ipod playlist. Is this a problem?

The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

  • Iphone/Itunes mixup with Ipod

After backing up my 4S itunes started transferring Genius to my phone.  I didn't realize what it had done until too late, so it erased the music I had just on my phone (didn't want my ipod music on there - don't ask).  It hadn't done that before.  How do I get the old music back on the phone?  I didn't know if a restore from backup would bring the old musci back.  It still shows up in itunes under my phone.

If you are saying it continually repeats, then try this:
With a song playing tap on the artwork. A time bar will appear at the top, with a shuffle icon on the right and a repeat icon on the left. Tap the repeat icon.

  • Trouble syncing iTunes files with iPod.  Help!

    Hi. Newbie, so be gentle.
I have a lot of songs on my computer. Sometime in the past couple of months, something prevented me from updating certain song files (and the files would vary). What would happen is the iPod would go through the syncing process and get hung up on one song (visible in the the status bar in iTunes). After it gets hung up, the syncing process would stop and I'd get the "OK to disconnect" message, but the file never showed up. On occasion, deleting the song and attempting to resync would make the iPod usuable again (and then I'd just have to reload the song and try again--sometimes that would work, other times it wouldn't).
After numerous problems with this, I talked to a rep at my local Apple store, who suggested that restoring my iPod would be the best solution. So I did. After taking multiple attempts to restore, I finally got the iPod blanked out. But now when it tries syncing to get all of my songs back, it again gets hung up on one song and stops attempting eventually. So from almost 5000 songs on my iPod, I've gone to 14.
Please help! I don't want to buy another iPod (especially because I don't know whether this is a hardware issue with my iPod or a softeware issue with my iPod or iTunes--buying another iPod isn't a guarantee that the same thing won't happen). Hoe else can I troubleshoot this issue?

Sad to say, but I think you have some corrupted music files.
Those are the worst to filter through....
My iPod was doing something similar. Wouldn't update. I finally found the bad file. It wouldn't play in WMP or winamp either, so it wasn't just iTunes being funky.
Luckily mine were like, 5 bad files in a row. Otherwise it takes forever to isolate which ones are causing it.
You could send feedback, I guess...if iTunes finds a bad file, then skip it, instead of shutting down the entire sync process. Maybe if enough of us send this suggestion, it will be implemented.

  • Sync multiple iTunes libraries with iPod?

How do I sync several iTunes libraries (selectable by holding down ALT while starting iTunes) with my iPod Touch (4th generation)?
With limited hard drive space on my Powerbook I've chosen to create an iTunes library which more or less just contains podcasts and internet radio stations etc. and use an external drive for another library which contains all my music.
I was hoping I could switch between the different libraries and have my iPod sync to both of them, but alas I get a message when switching over to the "music" library that my iPod "belongs to" another library and that if I choose to use the current one everything will be erased and overwritten.
So how do I prevent this from happening while allowing me to add music from the second library?

I'm not sure if I've got it right but I've played around a bit after reading the above and come to the conclusion that I first need to check (turn on) the "Manually manage music and videos" (and most likely "Open Itunes when this iPod is connected") options in iTunes when I click on my iPod icon on the left column.
But much to my surprise I can still have iTunes automatically (or so it seems) sync my podcasts which makes things a whole lot easier than doing that manually for each podcast update!
For everything else (music, videos, PDF files/books/audiobooks, iTunes U, Ringtones etc.) I will need to manually drag and drop over to the iPod. To make things easier I created a playlist folder named "Manually transfer to iPod" with various playlists inside (just to make it easier to see what my iPod contains from that particular library and to organize things neatly).
And instead of dragging the items from each playlist over to the iPod I simply select the folder, then drag all the items on the right hand side (contents) over to the iPod.
I haven't tried switching libraries yet, but I assume I'll be able to add media from there as well without any problems.
    Was this what you meant?

  • I have tried for days to up-date iTunes genius with no luck at all... HELP!

Virtually all the music in my iTunes library is in sync with the iTunes Genius function, except for the *NEW* music that I installed 5 days ago.
There were no problems loading the music on to my computer and every one of those tracks play beautifully in iTunes.
The problem I have is when I go to up-date genius. ITunes gathers all the new information then transmits it to Apple. Then it says “Waiting for Apple to deliver your Genius results…” What happens then is, slowly, but surely Apple fills in the result info onto the time-line bar at the top of my screen until it fills completely. There it stays filled completely for HOURS, still those music files says “No Genius Suggestions”.
I have done this repeatedly for 4 DAYS, waiting for HOURS each time for Apple to up-date those tracks with no success.
Please, if you can I could use someone’s help…
My laptop is a Dell Precision M6400 and my OS is Windows Vista Ultimate (service pack 2). I have 4gig of RAM & my system type is 32-bit Operating System.
The iTunes version that I’m running is VERSION 12.1.1.4
    Thank you for your time…

Because once it has charged enough to be powered on as soon as you turn it on it says battery is at 20% and will not charge anymore after that, it just runs for about 5-10 minutes before the battery dies again. The battery cycles discharge/recharge daily and its not on the charger at full charge for more than a couple hours and is never totally dead for more than a couple of hours.

  • Problem syncing itunes 12 with ipod classic on a PC

Hi I just purchased a new Lenovo Yoga Pro 3 and installed the latest itunes 12 on it, but it won't sync with my ipod classic.  The itunes detects my ipod classic, but won't sync the music files and just ejects the ipod instead.  I have tried installing an older version of itunes onto my computer (version 11) but version 11 won't work on this laptop.  Please help!

Unfortunately I cannot get the movies to play through Quicktime at all on the PC - the movie seems to play (timer runs and the little triagle moves), but all I get is a blank screen... The first time I tried to play one of the files, QT told me I may need to download additional codecs (although it did not indicate which one) - and directed me to the third-party codec download site. However, after downloading several of the different codecs, the .mov files still won't play through QT on the PC.
Rule of Thumb: never download codec components arbitrarily. Since the files load into the QT Player, what you should have done was open the "Inspector" window and check the "Format:" entry to see which codec was used to compressed the video and then download the "correct" QT codec component and only the needed one.
Is it not possible to get these files to play on a PC since they were imported and made on an iMac with iMovie?
I would tend to suspect that you may be using an HDD or DVD camcorder here. Basically, the MOV file container is generic and can hold any valid combination of audio and video compression formats. DV would have imported as DV content. AVCHD or HDV would have imported as AIC/AIFF content which is normally supported intrinsically by QT. On the other hand, the content from MPEG2/AC3 based camcorders employs a special iMovie '08 import/conversion module which converts the AC3 to AIFF and the MPEG-2 "P-frames" and "B-frames" to "I-frames" which effectively turns the video into an M-JPEG track but leaves it labeled as MPEG-2 content which would likely confuse the QT Player. Further, if iLife '08 itself installs the playback component for this compression combination, you may not be able to locate/install a Windows version of this playback codec at all and may end up having to convert your DVD stored MOV files on an iLife '08 equipped Mac.

  • How do I stop iTunes erasing my iPod songs?

I'm new to iPod, so I wasn't aware clearing iTunes library (in an effort to save disc space) of songs would also cause the iPod to update and erase it's contents of songs. Bang went 4 hours of recording. How do i stop this happening again? I set the preferences to only update the play lists but either I reset it and forgot or it went back to default update and erased the contents of the iPod. Would checking a manual update only solve this unfortunate problem? thanks.

Thanks for that Logan, but I have another question.
How do I access my iPod preferences in iTunes WITHOUT the iPod attached? As you know, you need to attach the iPod to have the iPod preference tab appear, which auto starts the erasing of iPod songs (Which I don't want)
Would sliding the "HOLD" switch on the top of the iPod mini stop any changes or update happening, giving you an opportunity to access the iTunes/iPod preferences and change them?
I don't want to find out by having another 4 GBs of songs erased! (I think I'll back them up to DVD)

  • Ipod library in ITunes freezes with Ipod Mini - HELP

    Hi!
    I have the folowing problem.
When I connect my Ipod Mini, te ITunes recognizes the Ipod and shows me the content of it. However, I can't play any of its songs nor add other songs; everything related to the Ipod in the ITunes is frozen. Please note that I can hear the music outside the Ipod through ITunes. I have already tried the 5R`s but doesnt work.
    Please help!!
    Than you in advance!
    Alan

You have to pod set on "Auto Update" if you want to drag/drop and play songs on your PC from the pod, you have to set it to "Manual update" rightclick the pod in iTunes select "iPod Options" and here you can change it to that if you wish.
If you do this tho you will have to manually eject it from the PC everytime

  • How itunes syncs with ipod?

I have preaching in itunes that I want to sync with my ipod. It does the sync but everything is backwards. Meaning, in itunes, 1 sermon has 6 chapters and it starts at 1 and goes to 6 in the correct order. When I sync with my ipod, it syncs backwards, starting with chapter 6, then 5, then 4, etc.
How do I sync from itunes to my ipod so that it looks identical to what I see in itunes?

    Hey there,
Under the +Get Info+ Info tab, are there track numbers associated with these? If there aren't, you could number them appropriately and that could fix your problem.
To do this just right click the sermon track and right->click +Get Info+ and then head over to the Info tab and assign a track number accordingly. If they still sync backwards, try reversing the order. Hope this helps.

  • Itunes Problem with loading songs

I'm trying to load songs into my itunes. I select "File" then "Add File to Library". I have to do it 4 songs at a time. If I select more then 4 songs the stupid program just goes back to the main screen and loads nothing. I've updated my itunes to the latest version. No change.
Is this a "Feature" of the software or just a bug?

You can go to File -> Add Folder to Library, and then highlight a folder, and iTunes will import all songs that are in that folder, or subfolders of that folder, that it can recognize the format of.

  • Itunes Freezing with iPod sync

    Hi There,
So when I plug my iPod into the computer and load up itunes. I get prompted with a unauthorization of a few songs (due to an older itunes account; I merged with my girlfriend) Secondly, it then proceeds to update all the songs on my iPod(all 382 of them). When it gets to about number 56 it freezes.
I restored factory settings on the iPod, I unstalled (in the order listed in apple support, and then restalled the itunes.
Any ideas on how to fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem with my iPod however the max I've ever got to is 8 songs. I've looked alot into this as it's really frustrating because my iPod was an Xmas present I was really excited about. I still have no solution to the problem however I have found out that it's not the iPod it's iTunes. Not much help I know, but it's something
