ITunes getting hung up

The other day I went to open itunes and immediately after the window popped up I got the color wheel. well, it never went away after a couple of minutes, so naturally I went to force quit. That closed the window, but in the dock it showed that iTunes was still open. apple/option/esc to force quit didn't work either. restarted the computer. tried this same thing a couple of times, still nothing new. went on the internet to see how to uninstall itunes, and found a help topic saying to move the itunesx.pkg file from HD>Library>Receipts folder into the trash and to trash the application file, then go into disk utility and repair disk permissions, then it said to reinstall itunes or an older version. here is the thread link (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6053722&#6053722). so anyways, I have done all that 4 times, twice with trying to install version 7.5 and twice trying to install the newest version...still does the exact same thing, every time! this is growing very frustrating, and that leopard disk sitting on my desk is starting to look like a great way to be done with all this. anyways, if anybody has had these problems or knows of a better solution, i would really appreciate the help. i have never had a single problem with itunes that i couldn't fix myself, so this is kinda new to me. btw, I have a .txt file with the problem report that comes up when I force quit itunes. if anyone knows how to read it and can diagnose this problem from it, let me know and i can e-mail it to you...the forum said it was too long to post on here. thanks again

Yikes! I've never heard of this happening... If I was in your shoes, here's what I would try.
The first thing I would focus on is your MacBook. Unplug all iPads from the MacBook. Restart the MacBook. Run a permissions repair (Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility) on your MacBook. Check for an iTunes update (if there is one, install it). Restart your MacBook and log back in.
Then, take one iPad out of the charging cart and try plugging it directly into your MacBook. Does it mount in iTunes? If so, try restoring that one iPad with iTunes. If it doesn't work, unplug the iPad from the MacBook. Try holding down the Wake/Sleep button and Home button for 10 seconds then let go of just the Wake/Sleep button but keep holding down the Home button while you plug in the USB cable into the MacBook. When you see the recovery mode screen on the iPad (cord and iTunes icon) let go of the Home button. Try restoring in iTunes again.
When you are able to get one iPad to restore successfully, then try with your entire cart.

Try this:
Quit iTunes.
Start an elevated command prompt (Start Menu>All Programs>Accessories>right-click "Command Prompt">choose "Run as Administrator")
Once in the command prompt, type "netsh winsock reset" and hit ENTER.
Reboot your machine.
Restart iTunes.
If that doesn't resolve it you'll have to go to iTunes>Preferences, on the Devices tab click on the backups shown and delete them. Then try syncing again.

ITunes gets hung-up while playing

Since upgrading from 7.0.1 to 7.0.2, I have been having trouble with iTunes getting hung-up. While playing a track, it will get almost to the end (about 1-3 seconds left), then it won't go any further in that song, forcing me to skip to the next track. This happens about a third of the time. Any ideas as to a solution? If I can't fix it, is there a way to go back to 7.0.1? Using a Titanium PB G4, OS 10.4.8. Thanks.

I'm having a similar problem. After upgrading to iTunes 7.0.2 (running on my iMac), iTunes frequently stops playing. Technically, iTunes looks like it's still playing in my case, but there is no sound coming from either the computer speakers or the AirPort connected speakers. This happens several times an hour--VERY annoying. Any advice?

Since getting iPhone 4S, iTunes gets hung up whenever I do anything.

Even something as simple as selecting or unselecting an album brings up the rolling ball of death for 1-2 minutes. Also, syncing can take up to 10 minutes. Is anyone else having this issue? Is it a 4S issue or an iTunes problem?

It may help to remove the iPod Photo Cache that resides within your iPhoto Library, as detailed in the article linked below.

I have the latest version of Itunes downloaded and installed to my computer. I have a music library already created for my replaced Ipod Nano. I've just purchased a new Nano. When I try to access the Itunes store from the Itunes program, it gets hung u

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes, but it still gets hung up when trying to access the Itunes Store from the Itunes program.
I've been unable to register the new Nano or sync it with my library.

This doesn't seem to make sense for my situation. I don't sync anything between outlook and my ipod touch.
I have no other USB devices connected to my computer.
I have no other Windows users on my computer - only me and I am the administrator. However on my diagnostic, it said this user is not the administrator. Weird.
So I have tried to follow that you referred me to, but still I haven't got it working yet. Do you have any further suggestions?

Classic getting hung-up

Also when I am writing a text message and I need infor from someplace else eg: the calandar or the internet and I go through the browser, I sae the text so I can come back to it, but when I do it gets hung-up and freezes. It sometimes takes 3 to 5 min and will unfreeze, other times it gives me the "failed to save message" error and i have to do it all again.

I'm having same problem
My beloved ipod classic was stolen last month. Just replaced it with a new (used) ipod 7th gen 160G. I'm on a MBP, latest version of Itunes (mistake). Music syncs fine. Some of the podcasts (my favorites) are not even showing up in the summary, so that I could attempt to sync them, but they are still there in itunes.

HT201272 I previously purchased the serina rider album "harmony" the song "circle of the sun" would not download, kept getting hung up. I cancelled the download, however when I tried to re download I was charged for it. I want my $ back.

I have just subscribed to iTunes Match and trying to uoload or match my library. it gets hung up in various stages and cannot move forward. I am also seeing many songs on my iphone that do not belong to me. I am ready to give up, but have no idea how to get my money back.

i leave my phone plugged in to sync and it gets hung up on the backing up stage, 2nd to be precise its iphone4 and yep itunes is up to date

If you have windows try this:
Quit iTunes.

Once in the command prompt, type "netsh winsock reset" (with our the quotes) and press ENTER.
Reboot your computer.
Restart iTunes.
Connect your phone and try syncing again.
If you have a mac, or if you have windows and this doesn't fix it, you probably have a corrupt iPhone backup from a previous sync that must be deleted. To do this open iTunes, go to Preferences, on the Devices tab you will see a list of your backups. Click each backup and click Delete Backup. Then connect your phone and try syncing again.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

The 50 when launching iTunes can indicate a damaged Apple Application Support. So first I'd try a Repair install of your Apple Application Support.
Restart the PC. In your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select Apple Application Support, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does the repair install go through okay? If so, does itunes launch without the (-50)?

Upgraded to tiger, mail gets hung up on importing old messages.

I had my pwrbk tuned up and upgraded to Tiger. All files were swept onto a dvd for back up and just plopped back on again after the install. When I click on mail to 'mail' it wants to import my "existing Mail messages into the new version"... so I 'continue' as it requests and (sighhh) it procedes to import (sighhh) my 4500 or so (who's counting) messages. It gets hung up on #1363 (which I believe is in the 'sent' folder) and the time remaining keeps increasing...- I mean - I gave it a chance - the battery (brand spank me new) ran all the way down AND we plugged it in too ... it happens every time. How to bypass this import without deleting all my old emails and just excise the offending hanger-upper?
