ITunes gift cards & download problem

I am trying to help my son download songs onto his new iPod. 1st problem that occurred is that I don't get the option to purchase w/ a gift card. It automatically is charged to my credit card. I am unable to get my options set to being able to edit my shopping cart, etc.
2nd problem is that I am unable to get the songs from my computer to my iPod. I get an error message that I am not authorized to play the songs on this computer. How frustrating. I am the administrator of the computer and have the ability to do whatever I want, i.e. download, chat, etc. I don't understand this at all.
Can anyone help me with one or both of these issues?

to redeem a gift card, firstly dont try and create an accoutn. go to the itunes music store homepage. on the top right side corner it should have some QUICK LINKS
select redeem and then type your code in there.
a lot of people have been having difficulties today due to a backlog of traffic on the servers... try that.

I'm don't think that gift cards are currently available in India (and as they are country-specific you won't be able to use cards from another country).

How Do I Use An iTunes Gift Card?

I was given an iTunes gift card for Christmas. It says: "Open iTunes and click on iTunes Store. Click Redeem." I am then instructed to scratch off the label and enter the gift code number. I am then to download my content "and enjoy."
I would like to "enjoy." The only problem is, when I open iTunes and click on iTunes Store, there isn't any "Redeem" opton available anywhere. I'm not going to list everthing that appears on the drop-down menu under iTunes Store, but "Redeem" isn't one of them, and I can't find "Redeem" anywhere else on the home page for the Store.
So how do I use an iTunes gift card?

Problem solved. It seems I did not have the most recent version of iTunes. Once I updated to the current version, the "Redeem" link appeared. I'm not going to tell you how old my existing version was. Let's just say I was a tad out of date.

I went in, clicked on Redeem, plugged in the gift card number and, voila! - my account has been credited with the amount of the card. I am good to go.

I redeemed a $15 iTunes gift card, but iTunes won't let me download anything. It keeps asking to sign in for billing and I do, but it says security code is invalid on debit card, when it's not. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Apple "verifies" your billing credentials with every transaction.

If the total purchase price of the media including any applicable taxes or fees exceeds the balance of the redeemed card, then the difference is charged to your debit or credit card account.

TS1424 iTunes account continues to get "hacked", downloads [asian characters] app, then uses my iTunes gift-card money for in-game purchases.

So what's going on?
It all started a few months ago when I realized that the $20 iTunes gift-card credit was used without my knowledge. Someone had purchased an iPhone app that was obviously foreign. I immediately changed my passwords to something I've never used anywhere, ever. The next day, I noticed that whoever downloaded the "app" used the card AGAIN to make in-game purcahses. Scared, angered, and confused, I called Apple who proceeded to tell me to change my passwords (despite my explanation) and then deactivated my account for a week. They reimbursed the stolen money and I thought everything was good... until now.
There are only 2 devices that are authorized to access my iTunes account - my iMac and my iPhone. I do not join any unreliable websites or download any malicious (appearing) software, much of it being recommended-by-apple apps. I just went on to iTunes today 9/9/12 and noticed that I was downloading something and there it was, once again:
I have no idea how this is happening and/or how to stop it. They want to charge me $40 to talk to them on the phone since my gear is older than 90 days. If anyone knows what to do, or why this is happening, please help!

There is no fee for email support. Also, in 99.9% of cases these in-app purchases, and what you describe are due to family members using the device and not aware they are carrying out in-app purhases.
Restrict in-apps and you'll see this will stop. I'm sure iTS will also regurgitate this as well to you.

After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with gift card issues. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:
If you can't redeem your iTunes Gift Card or code
Contact iTunes Store Support
If the code is completely scratched off or you still can't redeem your gift card, contact iTunes Support:
Go to the iTunes Store support page and choose your country.
From the menu on the left, choose Contact Support.
Click Contact iTunes Store Support.
Follow the instructions.
iTunes Store Support might ask you to send these things:
Image of the full front and back of your gift card
Sales receipt showing when your card was purchased
Serial number from your gift card

My itune gift card says it's not authorized. I've tried to redeem by typing in upper case letters and lower case letters. I've never had this problem before, what do I do so I can use this gift card?

I have typed in typed in the code as seen mostly upper case and I have tried lower case also. Neither is working. I've never had this problem before. Yes, the retailer is supposed to activate the card. Otherwise they'd lose hundreds to shoplifting. What you normally should do is go back the retailer from whom you purchased the card and discuss the problem with them. They should either correctly activate the card or give you a new one. If they refuse to help, as some retailers do, or this was a gift so you cannot contact the retailer, go here:

and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.

Problem with redeeming Itunes gift cards.

I have a problem redeeming Itunes gift card. Got a message about the ID has not been yet used with the Itunes store and was ask to review my account information. During the prosess I alway was stopped by the message that I have to contact Itunes support.
I have tried serveral times and stil can not access the app store.
Please help!

Try viewing or updating your account and payment informaiton by clicking iTunes > Store > View My Account, enter your password > edit the Payment Type under Apple ID Summary.

How to download an album after redeeming it on an iTunes gift card
