Itunes - grey dotted circle - HELP

Hello guys, i have a problem that grey dotted circle appears next to my music in library. It is whole grey and when I sync it nothing syncs and I cant play the music on my iPhone! Help please!

same frustration here...
itunes wont sync my large (~5k songs) library to my ipad .  i have gone through the sync process many times. it seems apps are properly syncing... i only have a few books and those seem fine too.. strange thing is the songs appear as if they are on the ipad.. however when i select them to play the file must be missing because it just skips the song to the next song and displays a red square surrounded by a red circle. (by the way... what's with all the apple hieroglyphics these days.. what's a dotted circle? whats a red square surrounded by a red circle?)
i recently wiped my computer hard drive and reinstalled a windows. after reinstalling itunes i copied the the itunes library files back to their rightful places and itunes seems to work fine with all my original library, playlists, etc.
when i sync to my ipad... the music doesn't transfer... lots of dotted circles...
i tried the idea of wiping all the music off the ipad (by deselecting 'sync music' in itunes). hasnt' worked... itunes thinks there is No music on the ipad... and yet all the music still 'appears' on the ipad, many of the songs don't play, yet several do play. makes no sense.
This process was a whole lot better in the past when itunes actually showed you want was happening during the sync process... now it's just a black hole of 'waiting for changes to be applied' and 'waiting for items to copy'.

  • ITunes "Other" Problem & My Music Won't Sync It Only Shows Up In A Grey Dotted Circle. Why ?

On my iTunes "other" section it takes up way too much space and idk what it actually is in the "other" files that have it like that. When I try to put songs on there, it won't download to my phone. It only shows a grey dotted circle next to the songs and they're all grey as well. I've deleted songs from iTunes as well as my iPhone & still the same issues. Can someone help me with this?

I had this exact problem, but I think I've figured it out. Here's what i did step by step
    - connect iphone with usb cord
    - go to music tab under device, and uncheck sync music and apply changes
( at this point there was no music on my phone)
    - go to summary and check off manually manage music and videos
-drag the playlists i want to the sidebar under device (a green plus sign came up)
this worked after trying countless suggestions and my music synced right away.

  • Grey dotted circle - music - HELP!

Hello guys, i have a problem that grey dotted circle appears next to my music in library. It is whole grey and when I sync it nothing syncs and I cant play the music on my iPhone! Help please!

After over an hour, I think I just figured this out!  (at least it finally synched about 200 recent songs from my PC to my iPhone which would never auto-synch!)
Connect your iPhone to your PC.  Open iTunes on your PC and navigate to your iPhone. On the Music tab, select Sync "Entire music Library".  Navigate to the Summary tab, select "manually manage music and videos".  Click Sync (if it doesn't automatically synch).
This pushed all my recent PC additions to my iPhone.  Hope it helps others.

Hello This circle thing has been bugging me for days I have been making ringtones from my libary of music which is very easy to do. The difficult bit is when i add them to tones to sync with my phone they appear as shaded out with a tick in the box with a small dotted grey circle. I have tried everything and been very unsucessful but yesterday i managed to get my tones synced with my phone but it took me for ever so I would suggest if you are going to make ringtones do a few alltogether and then do it.
The only way I could get it to work was take the tick out of the box in the summary tab manually manage music, which in turn when i connected my i phone it took all my music and tones off my i phone 5 I then had to sync all the libary back to my phone whilst it was doing this click on the tones tab and tick the boxes of the new tones you want to add and press sync while  the libary is still updating and hey presto all new tones were on my phone along with all my music again. As soon as this is done please tick the box in summary to manage music manually as the next time you connect your phone it will take all your music and data off. I know this is a long way round the proplem having to take your entire content off and put it all back on but its the only thing that worked for me. Oh by the way after you have done this do a back up either to your computer or to i cloud so no data is lost.
    Hope this helps
    This honestly works xxx

  • Ringtones i purchased from itunes disappeared when my iphone 4s restarted and they only show up as 'on my device' in itunes library but with a grey dotted circle. How do I get them back? They worked until the phone restarted!

I purchased some alert tones on my iphone 4s via itunes yesterday. They all worked just fine until the phone ran out of battery and I plugged it in and restarted. They have vanished from the phone and when I connect to my PC they only show up as 'on my device' under tones and with a grey dotted circle by them. How do I get them back? This is crazy! I purchased one a second time, it worked, I switched my phone off and on again and it has gone again!!!

Having the same issue on multiple alert tones on my Iphone5c.  After purchase they disappear from the phone and show up on my itune under Tones grayed out with a dotted circle next to them.

  • HT1535 Grey dotted circles in iTunes music

I have half-transferred songs on my iTunes. Beside these song names, I have grey dotted circle lines. I want to delete it by using the right click but it does not sow me any options of deleting. Do I have to go to my summary tab on iTunes to change your settings to "Manually manage music and videos"????????????? Cus when I right click it, it only gives me three options of  "Play", "Get Info" and "Show in iTunes store". When I click manually manage, it says my iPhone is synced with another library, and it can only be synced with one library at a time so erasing and syncing these contents would replace the contents of this iPhone with this iTunes library? I have two iTunes library in this case.
Previously, I copied the music and paste the music into iTunes media > automatically add in. Then I autofilled in iTunes. But I went to stop the autofill suddenly then it became like this. I tried copying and paste again but it does not appear in my phone, only my music library.

  • Grey dotted circle deleted half of my library

I tried to sync about 25 songs and there was a grey dotted circle, so I searched how to fix it.  After syncing and unsyncing all music and doing several things requested by people, about half of my library is now gray and dotted. This includes music that I purchased from iTunes, downloaded from a different website, and copied from a CD. It started with 25 and now I am missing about 400 songs that were on my phone about an hour ago.

Worse yet, when it says its done syncing the items are listed in the phone, but if you click them, it scrolls through at light speed until it hits the next track that actually exists on the device.    And the missing songs are completely random..   From uploaded CDs it will be a random track in the middle of the album missing.
Same for itunes store purchases.    ***!!!!

  • Grey dotted circle

    Hi
Since updating my software to ios7, over half of my songs are now unavailable and are grey in iTunes with a grey dotted circle next to them. I cannot click on them and they wont sync onto my phone.
I feel like I have tried everything. Even paid £21 for itunes match thinking that might be the problem! :-(
Please can someone advise me in simple terms how to get these songs back
    Thanks
    Charlotte

    Hello chartom
Uncheck the box to sync music in the Music tab within iTunes for your iPhone and sync to remove the music. Once that is done, check the box again and sync to get the music to download to your iPhone.

  • What do the grey dotted circles mean?

Hi, I'm trying to add some cds I imported into my iTunes onto my phone but it won't let me. When I plug my phone in to sync I click on this iPhone and the songs I want are highlighted with this grey dotted circle?

Very frustrating.  Tried your suggestion but haven't had any luck.  Dragged and dropped albums easily yesterday.  Today, no such luck.  They appear normally in iTunes on my system, with correct album artwork for all songs, but on iPhone 4 are grayed out with little dotted circle.  Songs are checked.  When I try to edit them ("get info"), the album artwork box is actually not visible.  For an individual song, the album artwork tab is absent, and for multiple songs at a time, it just says "artwork" without a box present.  All the text is grayed out and un-editable.
Any other suggestions?  I truly am so ****** off about the changes in iTunes.

  • Grey dotted circle itunes

    Hi
I updated my Itunes to latest on 11/07/13.  When I attempted to sync my ipad retina display manually selecting playlists and albums, i see some tracks with grey dotted line next to them in playlists under the devices. These are my own creations, not bought, not downloaded from some site.  I have synced these songs hundreds of times over past several years without any problem.
Looks like it is due to a new bug in the latest itunes update.  Apple: this needs immediate attention.almost Ll remedies suggested in the forums are not applicable since this problem was never there earlier.

    same frustration here...

  • When I try to import songs/playlists to my iPhone 6, grey spotted circle shows up next to most songs and they won't play. Help

I just set up my iPhone 6. I made a full backup from my 5 to iTunes. Everything was backed up and transferred except any of my music. Simple enough to do it manually, I thought and tried. But when I transfer a playlist from iTunes to the iPhone most songs show up in light grey with a dotted circle next to them once they are on the iPhone list and they won't play.
There are lots of threats about grey dotted circles from the past. Does anybody know what the issue is? I have the newest iTunes version and IOS version (8.02) for the 6. Why is this happening and how can this be fixed? This is all my music on my mac and most of it was on my previous iPhone 5, so why won't it play on the 6?
    Thanks!

    OK,
I was asking a little fast. It did indeed not work for a little while (up to 20 minutes) but once I started chatting with apple support it started resolving itself. The grey dotted circles mean two things. 1) the computer was taking some time to transfer the songs onto the phone (quite some time for some songs) but then they appeared on my phone. and 2) those songs I purchased, I can listen to on my phone and my imac, but they will remain unable to play (grey dotted circle) when I look at them on iTunes in my iphone playlist. So, I can play it on regular itunes or on my iphone, but not in my iphone folder on itunes. I hope that makes sense.
So problem got resolved for me. I hope this helps.

  • Grey dotted cicles

    Hi
I have tried to add an album i purchased earlier this week, when syncing to my phone, it just doesnt happen. i then noticed a grey dotted circle next to all the songs in the album. as well as few other songs i have purchased recently.
I have read around on this forum and tried both removing all my songs which resulted in even more grey dotted circles throughout my libary!
it also not an issue of space as i have nearly 10gb left
    ive tried syncing manually too
ive updated itunes and rebooted by phone etc
anyone suggest anything else i can do as its getting seriously annoying now, especially now more songs are showing it.
    thanks

After over an hour, I think I just figured this out!  (at least it finally synched about 200 recent songs from my PC to my iPhone which would never auto-synch!)
Connect your iPhone to your PC.  Open iTunes on your PC and navigate to your iPhone. On the Music tab, select Sync "Entire music Library".  Navigate to the Summary tab, select "manually manage music and videos".  Click Sync (if it doesn't automatically synch).
This pushed all my recent PC additions to my iPhone.  Hope it helps others.

  • Grey dashed circle - What could it mean?

    Hi everyone
Just wanted to get some suggestions or feedback on what the grey dashed circle beside my purchased music could mean.
Here's what it looks like from "On This iPod" when the iPod is connected to iTunes. All the songs play fine both on the device and on my PC.
However, I have noticed many people with syncing issues with the new iOS..could it be possibly the reason? Updated to the new iTunes yesterday 11.1.3, hoping something would give, unfortunetly not! Still the same. Suggestions please   Apple please FIX this...

    Hi!
I also have three songs with this circle, BUT:
    * My media library is empty
    * iTunes was installed freshly (before that I had removed all Apple Folders from ProgramData, AppData/Local/Roaming)
    * iPhone 4s with iOS7.0.4 did not contain any files in the music library -> also empty
What I did was, that I have "toyed" with the music library on my iPhone.
To be more precisely, I have pressed the buttons "Download Song from iCloud" next to those three songs while the iPhone was still connected to iTunes.
Then I had cancelled the download by pressing the buttons again.
After trying to sync iTunes with iPhone again, those 3 broken entries with the grey dotted circle popped up in the msuic folder of the iPhone in iTunes. Remember: the music folder of the media library in iTunes is STILL empty! So no songs there!
I have already tried nearly everything with syncing to get rid of those 3 dead entries with the circle. Nothing helped. Syncing the empty media library did not help, manually deleting the songs from the phone did not help. After synching in iTunes they pop up again in the music folder, although there is nothing to sync.
This really seems to be a bug.
Now I will try my last option: creating a backup, reset the phone and restore it again.
BTW: iCloud sync program is not installed.

  • Why do songs that I just had on my iPhone have a dotted circle next to them and won't sync to my phone?

I recently downloaded about 20 new songs and put them into iTunes. I synced my iPhone with iTunes, but suddenly unchecked songs started syncing to my iPhone and the songs i had downloaded would not. I looked into it and under "on my phone," the songs had dotted circles to the left of them. I restarted the phone, i restarted the computer, and finally i cleared the phone and restored it to the back-up. After restoring it didn't work, I unsynced all of my music from the phone and tried to resync all of the checked songs onto it but ALL of the songs i previously had on the phone have the dotted circle next to them. I am so incredibly frustrated and have no idea why this is happening. Why it 1) downloads unchecked songs, 2) has dotted circles next to all of my songs, and 3) won't sync any music I have checked as they are all now marked with the dotted circles. Please help! How do i fix this?

I had this issue on my iphone 4, and two songs listed on the iPhone in iTunes had the dotted circle.  I researched it, and I found a hundred different answers.  Some were complicated like uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.  All I did was this...  In iTunes under Music, I simply unchecked Sync Music, and I deleted all music from my iPhone.  I then checked Sync Music, chose all the songs I wanted.  No songs in iTunes had dotted circles, and all songs on my iPhone played.
