Itunes hanging on wake up

i have a weird problem with my itunes witch just recently started. when i wake my macbook up and start itunes it will hang for about 30-40 sec before opens. i can either wait or force quit and restart. ones i get it started it will open fine till i put macbook to sleep then it will happened again on wake up. the weird part about this is that it does not happened all the times but 90%. i reinstall itunes but it did not fixed the problem. i went to apple store twice but could not recreate a problem. the first time the guy deleted some files, the second time he did reset on RAM. problem still here. i don't wont to go back to the store as im afraid i wont be able to recreate this problem. any ideas as to why this is happening?

After doing some searching around i found the answer.
I installed the stand alone product of quicktime and this solved my problem.
Many thanks

  • Itunes hangs up and I have to shut down and restart

When I click in itunes, and I roll and click again, my itunes hangs up and the wheel never stops turning. I have to force quit itunes. After trying to open it again, this window comes up with this message:  The itunes library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file. WHAT??
What is this and why does it all of a sudden keep going to this since I have updated to the Mountain Lion OS?????
Appreciate all the help in resolving this issue.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply. What I found to be the problem was my external hard drive. It would go to sleep and would not wake up when I wanted to get into my media files. This has been frustrating, to say the least. I have a Seagate Network 2TB connected. Seems I've had my share of problems with Seagate. I plan to replace this device with something more Mac friendly.

  • ITunes hangs when phone plugged in

When I try and sync my iPhone to my MacBook, iTunes hangs forcing me to Force Quit the application. I did have an error message about Sync Manager, but found nothing usable about that topic and also an unknown iTunes error 0xe800005e, but again nothing about this topic either.
    Can anyone help.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try here. iPhone Basic Troubleshooting
    Try a different USB port.
    Try deleting this file.
    com.apple.PreferenceSync.plist
~/Library/Preferences. Move that file to the Trash.
Make sure you have the lastest version of iTunes. Launch iTunes without the iPhone connected to your Mac. From the Menu Bar, click iTunes/About iTunes. The most recent version is 9.0.1.
If you need to update your iTunes software, from the Menu Bar click iTunes/Check for Updates.
    Repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
    And try Restarting your iPhone.
To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments. Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

  • ITunes hangs when I connect my phone

    iTunes 10.2.1.1, iPhone 3GS iOS 4.3, Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.
Short summary: when I connect my phone to sync, iTunes hangs. If I let it sit for a minute or two it will eventually crash. If I disconnect my phone before this then iTunes starts responding just fine.
    Details:
I just "flattened" my computer: formatted the drive, reinstalled the OS (and upgraded to Win 7 SP1 off of a DVD with the combined install). The computer waas fine before this, I just wanted to do some spring cleaning. My iTunes library is sitting on a server and has always been accessed over the network.
After the re-install of the OS I installed iTunes and pointed it at my library. That was fine. Then I connected the phone. At that point it was running iOS 4.2.something. I decided to upgrade to iOS 4.3. That seemed to work fine. After that when I connect the phone iTunes hangs.
I decided to reset the phone with the option to erase all content and settings. iTunes now worked ok. So I did an initial sync, telling it to set it up as a new phone. I did not sync any music at this point--I have ~22GB of music, it takes a long time to sync. This still worked fine. So then I sync'd the phone again, this time installing all the music. Again iTunes hangs.
I wondered if the library was screwed up. So I installed iTunes on a laptop (running Win 2008 Server R2), pointed it at my same library (still over the network). Then started over: reset the phone, clearing all settings & content. Sync from the laptop. It works fine. Sync the music from the laptop, it still works fine. It also seems clear that it's not a problem with the iTunes library.
Back to my original computer, the one with problems, my wife is using it logged in with her account and syncing her iPad without any problems. However, she has very little music on her iPad, maybe one ripped CD, whereas my iPhone has hundreds.
So the issue seems specific to this one computer & phone that has a lot of music on it. I never had a problem on the computer before, but that was iTunes before 10.2, iOS 4.2 (and earlier), Win 7 without SP1, ... So I've changed lots of things at the same time and am not sure which one really created the problem. Although I wonder if it's a problem with Service Pack 1. I don't have any concerns about a bad install of the SP, since I did a full install of the OS that already had SP1 integrated into it. But maybe iTunes 10.2.1.1 has an issue with SP1.
    Any suggestions?

I've been following a Windows forum about the freezing problem. It happened to us and our three iOS devices immediately after upgrading Windows 7 64-bit to SP1. There were plenty of others with the same problem. Rolling back SP1 solved it instantly. Reinstalling SP1 caused it instantly. No amount of cleanly uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime, iTunes, or any components helped.
Although I have an image of my system before SP1 that I could revert to, I didn't want to. Luckily *a temporary fix is to run iTunes in Vista compatibility mode*. The iOS device will now be recognized most, if not all, of the time. ITunes will run like molasses, but that's better than being unable to sync any of your devices ever again. (I could describe compatibility mode, but you seem PC-savvy.)
Here is the specific trouble I am addressing, although it is only part of your trouble. We plug in one of our iPhones or our Touch, iTunes hangs for a couple of minutes. Windows sees the device as a camera if applicable, but the device never appears in iTunes. It's worth repeating that Windows doesn't have trouble recognizing the device. The problem is with iTunes.
And yes, everyone tried all sorts of things with the Apple Mobile Device utility. People even tried "nuking" all their USB drivers and letting them get rebuilt on startup. The only temporary fix found so far is Vista mode, and the only permanent fix is downgrading the OS to before SP1.

  • ITunes Hangs when I plug in my iPod Nano

I'm hoping someone can help. When I plug in my new iPod Nano, it shows up in iTunes, but iTunes hangs claiming it is Analyzing Track X of Y. It will do this for infinitely long without making any real progress. If I look under the event viewer, I get some mention of Hard Drive device failure, etc.
    Any clues? Thanks.

  • Itunes hangs with itunes match in Mountain Lion

    Right!
I've seen all the "Itunes hanging" issues that Apple is choosing to ignore. So I'm adding my bitter experience to this too!
    I have:
Re-installed Mountain Lion, tried to run the latest version of itunes, and pulled down my cloud stored library. It hangs itunes, then hangs Mountain Lion.
    I have:
Created a new user, and tried to do the same....it hangs itunes...then hangs the computer.
    I have:
Tried using the rescue partition, and it ....yes, youve guessed it hangs itunes, and hangs the computer.
I don't have wirless on, and am using a network cable. I've tried using wifi....
    My machine is:
    Mac Pro
    Processor  2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  12 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)
I'm a film editor and photo-journalist hence the amount of ram.
Allof this started when Apple released Mountain Lion.....IT ALL WORKED BEFORE!
Can the developers figure out what is happening, or are they focusing their efforts on trying to create the next rich experience pioneered by Mr.Ives.
Fed up with this, I used to be proud of using Apple, however, I'm starting to like the look of Windows 8.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers

    Hi judysings
    Thanks for your help.
I tried to follow for each topic from your link. Actually it doesn't contain any topic about uploading issue.
After I turn on my iTunes Match again, the same problem appears. My iTunes hang again after iTunes Match status bar updating in a while.
Before I turned on, I've check and never seen any duplicated except from different albums.
Actually, this problem happened since a few days ago that iTunes down for the whole world area. So, my iTunes database most likely the same even before and after it down. My one seems not fully recovered.
    Anyway. Thank you very much

  • Itunes hangs when burning cd's - possible solutions

    Hello everyone,
I've had what appears to be the same problem as many many more people on this site.
I haven't got a complete fix, after 4 months of trying but I've got as far as I have with the help of Toonz and the people at Apple.
Now here is what I have found:
    1. The problem with my Itunes hanging at burning only happens if I have a mixed playlist that I am trying to burn. When I say mixed I mean a mix of purchased tracks and uploaded tracks from my cd collection. Just uploaded tracks work fine.
    2. If I just burn a playlist of purchased tracks it works fine too.
    3. If I don't control alt delete when it hangs, and I wait for up to 2 minutes, the burn evenutally kicks in. Don't do anything. Just leave it and see what happens. I was having to control alt delete to get out of the unresponsive Itunes, but by chance, yesterday, discovered that by leaving it it finally burnt my cd! This was a mixed cd with both purchased tracks and uploaded tracks.
Now, the people at Apple don't yet know why this is doing this. It only happens since version 6 of Itunes. This version (I think) was the first to introduce the "checkingplaylist" stage of burning and they seem to think that it might just be something to do with that.
Anyway, that all helped me. It is still frustrating to have to wait for a couple of minutes, but it's better than nothing. They are still trying to get to the bottom of this for me, too.
I hope this helps at least some of you.
Please give me some feedback if it has, as I'd love to know that all my efforts over the last few months could help others!
    Good luck
    Jane

    I think I'm in love...
I just spent the past 3 hours running through reinstalls of iTunes, looking at every support topic and finally found this wonderful, wonderful thread.
I am having the same exact problem with mixed playlist burns.
I also have great success with waiting for only about 1-2 minutes while iTunes shows "Not Responding". Then it fires right up and burns perfectly.
Thank you for posting this quazi solution, and it has helped me tremendously. Well, at least it has saved me from having to transfer all of my music to a new digital music manager.
I hope this issue gets resolved soon

  • ITunes hangs up EVERYTIME I try to Upgrade my iPhone 4 from iOS 4.3.5 to 5.1.1

So I have a jailbroken iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.5. I want to undo the jailbreaking so I downloaded iOS 5.1.1 but EVEYRTIME I try upgrading, iTunes always hang up. iTunes hangs up even when I just connect my iPhone. • Itunes Hangs as soon as iPad or iPhone connected

I am running OS X 10.9.3 on a MacBook Air with Itunes 11.2.2 (3). iTunes runs quite happily until i plug my iPad in. The iPad is identified and then iTunes hangs. I have disabled automatic synching but I am at a loss as to what to try next. I powered off my iPad and retarted iTunes, in then promptly connected to my iPhone via WiFi and hung. The hangs are during the initail connection and the synch/back-up never starts.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices
Right-click or control-click the line and select

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Trash. Relaunch the application and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select

  • ITunes hangs when attempting to connect to Airport Express

I searched and couldn't find anything directly relevant. Here is my problem:
I am using a Powerbook G4 to stream audio to an Airport Express. This has worked with no major issues for almost two years on a WEP encrypted network. Yesterday I did the following:
Update OS from 10.4.9 to 10.4.11
Update iTunes from 7.4 to 7.5
    Change encryption to WPA
The Airport Express light is green, and I can access its settings through Airport Admin Utility. The Airport Express is visible as an option in iTunes, and when I select it a small window pops up saying something along the lines of "Connecting to AirportName". The connection never happens, and iTunes hangs on this window indefinitely.
Any thoughts? I did the updates so I could use my new iPod touch, and I switched to WPA because I read somewhere that it is more secure.
    Thanks for any help

I had a similar experience and found patience to be the answer. For some reason it took 5-10 minutes for my Apple TV to get past the "Loading Mike's Media" message. In the meantime my iTunes was unresponsive. My library is not exceptionally large (about 160gb with 57 movies and 67 TV shows).
After that initial long wait, I tried switching back and forth between Apple TV as the source and my iTunes as the source. Each subsequent reconnect to iTunes only took about 40 seconds.
I have no idea why it takes so long. I did a little probing, and iTunes was neither using much CPU nor doing much I/O during the long wait. Quite odd.

  • MacBook Pro Retina Mountain Lion + Dell U2713hm hangs after wake-up

This is a more specific description of my problems here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4385171
I use a Dell U2713hm together with a MacBookPro Retina under Mountain Lion. The Dell is connected via the Thunderboldt to DVI-D adapter that is sold by apple. The Dell has a USB 3 Hub. The upstream is connected to the Apple-DVI adapter. I use a mouse and a Logitech keyboard, which are connected to the Dell USB hub.
The display blanks from time to time for some seconds, which is suboptimal and I would be greateful if this could be fixed. But the biggest problem is that the system hangs after wake up. Sometimes the external monitor just stays dark, sometimes I get the login screen, but cannot type since the swapping wheel is shown. I have to reboot the machine.
To me this looks like a USB(3) sync problem.
If there are any ways around this I would be really glad. Is there a way to disable USB3? I also noticed that the speed of components that is displayed in the system profiler depends on the ports I use for keyboard, mouse and camera ...
    Thanks!

The solution is to dump the 100€ mini-display port DVI-D adapter that apple sells and buy a mini-Display to Display-Port cable for 6€. No crashes, no annoying interruption of the display (which I had several times the day for 2 or 3 seconds). There are very short interruptions now, but it is much better than with the apple adapter. The apple adapter needs a USB port, which is not necessary with the simple cable.
As for the monitor: Burn In, otherwise great. The burn in can be erased via monitor menu but should not be there in the first place.
    Hope this helps.

  • Itunes hangs during radio streaming and has to be forced quit

Itunes plays radio streams ok for a while, but eventually the music stops. Pressing stop to restart the url doesnt work, the whole of itunes becomes frozen and unresponsive and needs to be force quit everytime.
Its very frustrating as when you restart itunes it needs to then check the whole library.
Playback is fine for all hard drive content. Happens on both ethernet and airport connection.
Cant seem to find other people having the same kind of issue.
Have reinstalled itunes several time to no avail.
    Any ideas?

I think I have the same problem and I am pretty sure I can give a recipe for replicating it: listen to any radio stream; when the stream gets interrupted for buffering (if you have multiple windows open, you probably won't notice the little dialog box popping), press the "PLAY" key on your keyboard. Voilà. iTunes hanged.
I've submitted countless bug/crash reports on OS 10.5 and OS 10.6. Something changed in Lion (10.7) in that even though iTunes still *has* to be force-quit, it doesn't count it as a crash and so there's no prompt to submit a report.
Frankly, I am kind of amazed that this years-old bug which probably affects just about everyone listening to streams is not fixed already.

  • ITunes Hangs With Iphone 3G connected

Hello there. Well the story goes: I drag+drop my entire music library to my new iPhone earlier in the day and when I tried to connect it again, Itunes hangs and needless to say does not ever show the Iphone although windows DOES recognize the Iphone asking me if I would like to import photos etc. upon connection. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes to try to fix the problem and to no avail.
Note: When i disconnect the Iphone from the computer, iTunes un-freezes and will show my Iphone for a split second before, of course, it goes away because it isn't connected to the computer.
Anyone have this happen to them and know the solution?
    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi
I'm having the same problem. At first connecting the iPhone 3G worked fine, but now it will freeze iTunes whenever connected. Looking at the processes, iTunes will be churning about 50% of the CPU usage. I have re-installed iTunes to no avail, and even done a fresh installation of Vista, where again it worked at first before starting to hang again. iTunes loads fine if I stop the Apple Mobile Device service, but then of course iTunes can't see the iPhone.
I do also think it might be related to Vista "identifying" the iPhone as a camera, causing iTunes to get confused.
Vista is 32 bit, iTunes is 7.7.0.43, iPhone is 3G. User is not a complete moron.
    Anyone?
