ITunes "hangs" after playing first two tracks

Testing with three different CDs, I have discovered that my iTunes "hangs" after playing the first two tracks. That is, it will play the first two tracks fine, then appear to play the first two seconds of the second track again and stop. I am also unable to eject the CD or quit the program, instead getting the Spinning Beach Ball of Death, so I must force-quit the program, after which I am able to eject the CD.
I have repaired the disk permissions and verified the disk with no problem in both cases. I have also shut down and restarted a few times between tests, but to no avail. I hope this issue is not an indication of a physical problem with my drive. (I have not tried running Disk Warrior yet, but that may be my next step.) Also, this problem occurred both before and after I upgraded to 10.4.11 so it seems to be unrelated to this OS upgrade, but it may be related to my upgrading to iTunes 7.5. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks,
Paul

Yep, that did the trick. Many thanks! In fact, after unchecking Error Correction and successfully playing a CD all the way through, I even rechecked EC and immediately tried playing the same CD, with the same problematic "Track 2 Hanging" result.
Odd that this should be the solution, though. It begs the question as to whether or not EC should ever be checked. I realize that this feature is for importing and not for playing tracks, but it seems tedious to have to remember to check EC when importing and then uncheck it for playing. I guess I'm asking whether or not EC is effective enough to warrant the inconvenience of having to uncheck and recheck and uncheck, etc. Any thoughts on that?

  • Silence at start of first two tracks

Whenever I burn a CD, or bounce the CD, I end up getting silence at the start of the first two tracks. It is not an added pause between songs, but actually silences the music, which should be playing under it. Then about 10 seconds into the track, the music suddenly jumps back up, 10 seconds into the song.
Is anyone else getting this? I've tried with plugins on the mix, without plugins, but no luck. I tried creating a new CD with new songs, to see if that CD project had somehow been corrupted. The new project did it as well. I haven't trashed my prefs or anything yet. I'll give that a try, but anyone else have any ideas?
Oh, and yes, it plays just fine when I'm listening to it from Waveburner itself. There are no misplaced fades or anything.
    Thanks

  • Ipod frozen after playing every two MV

It's so confused that my ipod always frozen after playing every two Avril's mv, with only a play and battery icon on the screen. For some reason it's perfectly ok when playing other mv and music. Nothing same happened.

    Tracy,
Under the normal process, your iPod mini will show the running bar, indicating that it is trying to complete the restore process. Try to do a restore again and plug it to the AC charge striaght away. You may need to do several attempts

  • ITunes will only play first track from an album!

    Hi all
Have recently upgraded to iTunes 9.2 and it's broken!! For some unknown reason when double clicking on an album in my library, unlike in old iTunes the whole album would play, it now only plays the first track then stops. It will play all the tracks, but I have to keep selecting the next track to play. I want the old, fully working and polished iTunes I'm used to, not this half baked ill thought & rushed out alleged "upgrade"
Any help or advise would be gratefully appreciated.

Have the tracks become unchecked? iTunes will skip unchecked tracks, so if they're all unchecked, iTunes will play one and then stop. If this is indeed the case, re-checkmark the tracks - control-click on any checkbox will select or unselect them all - and you should then have continuous playback.
    Hope this helps.

  • Itunes hangs after  just listening to music with Album Art work turned on.

I have been having issues with iTunes hanging and I have to open up task manager and kill the process. It doesn't Hang my system, only iTunes. I have noticed that the itune's process is taking up about 1.4 GB of memory and that each time it hangs it is around that amount. I have almost 38,000 Songs in my iTunes folder and I have album Art work for all of them. Is there some limitation on the amount of Art work? If I turn off the Art work it will run all day long with no problem.

Not necessarily.  I was asking that cause iTunes match will upload album artwork for the first track of a CD and it wont display until after you play the track you want artwork to display for.  As far as it not displaying when being synced via iTunes, I am sorry but I don't have any idea.

  • Itunes hang after latest updates

Since the last updates to my iMac iI find that the iTunes is constantly Hanging. It does not matter if I'm not using iTunes, as soon as its working in the background it hangs sooner or later. When I work with my music files in iTunes it usually hangs after less than 30 minutes.
    How can this be?
I do not want to start with a new music player since I have used iTunes for the last 10 years and I have all my music in it.
But the way its acting now it seem like I have to use something else since iTunes is simply not working properly.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a general summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a particular line of text to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
These are not specific instructions; just an overview. The details are in parts 7 and 8 of this comment. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. Load this linked web page (on the website "Pastebin.") The title of the page is "Diagnostic Test." Below the title is a text box headed by three small icons. The one on the right represents a clipboard. Click that icon to select the text, then copy it to the Clipboard on your computer by pressing the key combination command-C.
If the text doesn't highlight when you click the icon, select it by triple-clicking anywhere inside the box. Don't select the whole page, just the text in the box.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window to activate it. Paste from the Clipboard into the window by pressing command-V, then press return. The text you pasted should vanish immediately.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

  • Why does Final Cut Pro change my title's baseline after the first two titles when exporting a master file?

    Hey Guys,
I want to use a Zoom title (Titles -> Build In/Out -> Zoom).  I only want the title, not a subtitle.  So I insert Zoom's everywhere, type in my stuff for Line 1, delete the contents of Line 2, format it (font, tracking, etc.).  Everything looks great in the Viewer.  I let it render, then export a Master – same as source.  I open the MOV, the first two titles are great.  Then every title thereafter looks like someone changed the position by 100 pixels south of its original location.
Here's what I've done to troubleshoot it:
Removed all Zoom's, inserted new ones, removed the contents of Line 2 and left Line 1 alone (i.e. it still reads "Title").  When I export, everything's fine.  The moment I change formatting or put in new copy in Line 1, same thing happens – every title changes position by 100 pixels down.
Downloaded Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager, trashed pref's/
I'm using a TTF with a bold type body only.  Figured I'd leave it at Gill Sans Bold.  Same thing happens as soon as I type something custom into Line 1.
I had a text style saved and removed it.  (Which wasn't easy.  Solution here.)
Has this ever happened to you?
    Thanks!

    Hey Jim,
Thanks for the follow-up.  Here are some more details:
    OS - 10.8.2
    FCP X - 10.0.7
I can't update either of these because of my Avid installation.
Something else I didn't mention – this happens in a 4K project.  Notice how a default Zoom title looks:
Lines 1 and 2 are almost stacked on top of each other.
    Here's my title style:
Here's what the title looks after I apply the title style, modify Line 1, and remove the contents of Line 2:
And here's how it looks in the exported master file MOV:
    Notice how it's pushed down?
Then I decided to make a 720p project.  No more title problems.
So if you have some 4K footage, Jim, give it a go.  Or if there's another 4K-er out there, try this and let me know.
    Thanks!

  • ITunes freezes after playing one song

Since upgrading to the new iTunes that was released today, after playing one song in iTunes in Windows, the program freezes and the only way out is to End Process on it. This only happens the first time that Windows starts up. After iTunes freezes and I End Process on it, and then run it again, it doesn't have this problem until the next time that Windows starts up.
Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

Turns out "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" was doing something that held up the computer when I used iTunes. So I followed these steps to disable the service permanently (since I don't use Windows Media Player): http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/fix-wmpnetwk-exe-in-windows-7/

  • ITunes only burns the first two discs of audible book over and over

I have purchased, downloaded, and burned many Audible books in iTunes successfully . . . until now.
NOW I cannot get my current purchased book to burn correctly.
    What I do...
I create a playlist for the audiobook.
I drag the audiobook into the playlist.
I right click on the playlist and ask it to burn to disc.
I am told the book will have to be spread across multiple discs.
    I click "ok".
The playlist begins to burn to disc.
I am prompted to insert another disc.
    I do so.
This goes on and on for what seems like too many discs (normally, an unabridged audio takes about 8-12 discs depending on the length.)
I check the discs in a portable player and discover that the first two discs are fine, but that the third and fourth discs are just repeats of the first two discs.
I check the rest of the discs I have burned (18 at this point) and find that the first two discs are repeated over and over and over again!
What I did to try and resolve the issue:
I checked to see if I had the latest iTunes downloaded.  I do.
I emailed Audible and they had me delete all occurences of the audiobook from my system and then re-download a fresh copy.  I did.
Tried to reburn the new playlist with the new downloaded audio book.
The same issue occurrs and I waste another 18 discs.
It should be noted that the only reason I only wasted these 18 discs each time and not more is because I finally cancelled the burn.
iTunes was still asking for more discs on disc 18 (and the audio book was only about 10 hours long).
Any help resolving this would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

THIS... is precisely why I use Toast.
I know that doesn't help a lot, but I have NEVER been fond of iTunes for burning.

  • My itunes are only playing on two of my three aiport express. Why? The green light is on Airport Express. The WiFi is connecte to my commuter. I am hearing music in the other rooms...

My itunes are only playing out of two of my three airport express. Why

Ok, it sounds like what your are trying to do, up-and-above your current configuration, is to both extend your Internet connectivity to additional wireless computers AND stream iTunes to a stereo...correct?
If so, your AirPort Express (AX) will need to operate as either a Remote or Relay Base Station in Apple's Wireless Distribution System (WDS) mode. (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107454) In order for this to work, you would have to use either another AX or an AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS). However, there are some other 3rd-party routers (like Linksys) that may work as well. (ref: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121820)
What is the make/model of your current wireless router...and does this connect directly to your ISP's DSL/Cable modem?

  • Itunes freezes after playing 10+ songs

Anyone else have this happen? I click around listening to samples, then after about 10 itunes will not play another. I can get it to work again by closing itunes and closing the process itunes.exe.

I am not sure, but try repairing it with itunes setup. If that dosnt work try reinstalling itunes. if that dosnt work, then i have no idea. =(

  • ITunes hanging after moving library to wifi drive

I have MacBook Pro (bought Feb 2011, upgraded to Lion), Airport Extreme and a new external hard drive connected through Airport Extreme. Today, I moved my library to the remote drive and imported a HUGE collection into iTunes (some 25+ GB of songs). While importing 1655th song out of 4200+ songs, iTunes hanged and I had to 'force quit' the process. Since then, iTunes just keeps hanging everytime I start the program.
Connectivity to the wifi drive is not a problem, as I am sitting practically right next to it.
While trying several things, I upgraded iTunes to the latest version (10.4.1), but the issue continues.
Do I just leave the MacBook next to AE to give itunes a chance to sync the huge collection? Is the collection corrupted and needs to be made again (how do I do that)?
    Please help!!
    Thanks
    Harmeet

Move it all back to the C: drive to exactly where it was before, and follow these directions to fix it.

  • ITunes hangs after startup

I open itunes, which takes its time opening, then once it is fully open it will hang at between 50-100% CPU usage for at least 15 minutes before I can do anything. I would like to know if there is anything I can to to alleviate this.
This is a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit, the computer has 3gigs of ram, a Dual Core Xeon 3.0ghz processor, and the library is about 260gb and is being shared from a samba share from linux over gigabit. However there are no problems with using the Zune player over the network so it is not a network latency problem.

I did two things which resolved this problem.
    1.  went to device manager and noted an error on the Apple USB driver.
Fixed by reinstalling it from c:/program files/common files/apple
It took a couple of tries but eventually it resolved.
    2.  Go into Control Panel / Programs   and then right-click on Bonjour and select repair.
    After that it worked.

  • ITunes Hanging after updating few songs

Just bought a new 80GB and have been trying transfer songs from my library. My library is in an external 200 GB hard disk. I upgraded to iTunes 7.2. Run XP
Now i Tunes hangs regularly after updating songs ranging 20 to 200 or so songs. I have over 7k songs and find it a big trouble to force shut iTunes each time.
Have tried resotring with same result.
Any solutions I would be mighty obliged.

I do not have shuffle turned on. I do have one track that without the check. I thought that this check meant skip when shuffling. When I look at the options for the track (Get Info/Options) "Skip when shuffling" is not checked. iTunes does not quit on this song.
