ITunes has detected an iPod in restore mode

I keep getting an error message stating that "iTunes has detected an iPod inn recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." when I connect it to my PC running iTunes 7.0. When I restore it to the factory settings, I still get that same error message.

YES YES YES - it's the infamous drive letter mapping issue! I have seen this several times and helped a few people fix it. In the OLDER versions of iTunes, the behavior was that the iPod simply didn't appear in iTunes. Much less destructive than restoring the iPod only to find that it just keeps popping up with the same message! The BEST way to solve this problem is NOT to unplug/unmap other drives! It is to REASSIGN the drive letter of the iPod to an UNUSED letter. In Windows this is done in the Disk Management utility (right-click My Computer and select Manage from the menu, then go to disk management and right-click on the iPod and assign it a new drive letter!) Windows will REMEMBER the drive letter you assigned so that you can keep all of your mapped drives and other external drives plugged in and all will work TOGETHER! If only the error message in iTunes was a little better. It could say something like, "Your iPod is either in recovery mode, or is sharing a drive letter with another device on your system..." Something like this would help people at least TRY to diagnose the problem before simply restoring the iPod, which, as it turns out, is TOTALLY UNNECESSARY!!

  • "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode" restore and doesn't work

I'm trying to put my music on my new iPod and keep getting this error message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore the iPod before it canb work with iTunes". I click "restor to factory settings" and then the same error message comes up when it's complete. iTunes does recognize my iPod, it just doesn't seem to realize that I've already done what it's telling me to do. Going around and circles and can't get my music on...:( Help, please?
    Thanks!

  • Updated my Ipod got "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." Error.

I had some new albums I bogut from Itunes and wanted to put them on my Ipod Touch. Went to do that, ITunes said there was an update. I downloaded the update and then I couldn't see anything in my Ipod nor listen to anything. The screen of my Ipod shows a USB cable pointing to Itunes and when I plug it into ITunes again I get the message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." And the ONLY option it gives me is to restore my IPod to factory settings. I looked online for answers but all I see are people having problems with this because they bricked their phone, which I haven't ever done or even know how to do. Would appreciate some help, planned on spending my day off listening to my new albums.

If you are in the USA you can redown
If the music is not in your iTunes library (it is not in the backup that iTunes makes), you can redownload it if you are in the USA.

Are you sure it is 1043? I've never seen that error before. But you can try disabling your security software, connecting the phone to a USB port directly on the computer (not a hub), and trying to restore again.

If you are using XP, and you went through the procedure at the bottom of the previously linked document to change the iPod's assigned drive letter, and you also tried putting it into Disk Mode...
If you have not already, try shutting down your computer and disconnecting all USB devices, including hub.  Start up with only standard keyboard and mouse connected.  Just to be safe, put the iPod into Disk Mode again

Run iTunes.  Connect iPod to a direct USB port on computer.  iTunes may prompt you about "recovery" and ask you to do a Restore.  Try to do a Restore again.

  • "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore"

When I updated my iTunes software, I connected my Ipod to my laptop to charge. By default, it opened iTunes. Immediately upon doing so, my nano flashed and displayed the message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore". I followed the instructions to reset, but to no avail, the message never disappears. However, if this helps at all, when attempting to reset the nano, the nano turns off, the apple logo displays, then returns to the same message. I do not want to "restore" my nano unless absolutely necessary since I'll lose everything I have stored on it. I'm open for suggestions. Thanks for reading.

  • ITunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode loop

    Hello,
I have an Ipod 5 and during update of the OS to the latest, the process got an error.
No my Ipod is in recovery mode. Everytime I download the Update (Restore and update) there is this constant pop up that comes up (iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode).
I click ok everytime but then after 5h download there is the Processing file part which when I click ok on the pop that constantly keeps coming after some it, all stops and I need to restart the process again for 5h. Keeps going on like that.
Its really annoying stuck in an update like that which only a minor patch. I can't use my ipod for days now.
    Could you please help.
    Thanks

  • 'iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode' loop. Help?

On Friday I plugged in my iPod touch (4g) to download the new ios 5 (from 4.3.5), but about when it reached about 4 minutes remaining, the error message 'iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore the iPod before using it with iTunes.' appeared. I've tried restoring it about 10 times now, the closest being  just 2 seconds away from finishing.
The iPod has the screen on the usb pointing to the iTunes symbol.
It does NOT show up under computer, or under disk management, so I don't know if i can change the drive letter. If there are alternatives, please let me know!
I've tried using another computer and different users - all of which comes up with the same error, so I'm thinking that it is the iPod that is the issue.
When i attempt to restore it it says it should take around 15 minutes, but usually the error comes up within the last 5 minutes.
The iPod info just says Name: iPod
                                      Capacity: n/a
                                      Software version: n/a
                                      Serial number: n/a
Really don't know what to do, any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately not yet. Any thoughts on this are useful...
