Itunes has encountered a problem and is shutting down
I recently downloaded the updates for my ipad. Now, when I connect my ipad to itunes on windows 7, it appears to sync. Then clicking on ipad and apps, a window comes up saying "itunes has encountered a problem and is shutting down." I downloaded the itunes update hoping that would help, but no go.

I bought the Apple airport router I installed it with the provided disc and that same day my iTunes would not come up. For window users I get the box that reads iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience with a box that you click to Send Error Report. Here is the error……… AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 7.6.2.9 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000a019a
I figured that my music files somehow were corrupt and that shi_ happens. Well a week later I was having troubles with the Apple router so I returned it and uninstalled it from my program files C drive. Then I gave iTunes another shot and it opened. Weird, I know. Well my next router was a Net gear it worked fine but it lagged on COD4 while online with my PC, so I returned it. Then I bought a Belkin - N1 Vision Wireless-N Wireless Router and it did not come with an install disc just plug and play. That very same day my iTunes gave me that **** error again. This time I can’t try to uninstall it from my program files because it was plug and play. I already tried to do a system restore and I shut down my PC and start it back up without the router plugged in and still no luck. I also tried to repair iTunes and that didn’t work. I went to the Geek Squad and they tell me the two issues can’t be related (a router not allowing my iTunes to run). My computer is running on Windows XP Pro. I’m now playing my music through Windows Media Player. I’m in ****!!!! Can someone please help me!!!!! I also tried a few things on iTunes support and they didn’t work. I will be more than happy finically facilitate someone for helping me get my iTunes up and running like usual. Dallas @ [email protected] I’ll be checking this thread every day. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,......"The enstaller encountered errors before the requested operations for Quicktime could not be completed. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again."
Checking on things that can cause QuickTime launch errors and install/uninstall errors now.
Have you at any stage installed an ACE or K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, any copies of the programs QT Alternative, QT Lite or Storm Codec, or any media converter programs that can convert files into QuickTime readable formats?
(I'm checking on these things because depending on the versions of the programs/codec-packs, these can install earlier versions of QuickTime componentry on a PC, which can interfere with the running/installing of a higher version of QuickTime.) -
ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close... all the time!
I just bought an iPod nano (5th generation). I downloaded iTunes 9.2 for Windows XP. So far, I have only about 15 songs on the iPOD, because whenever I connect it to the computer an error occurs. It goes like this:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the unconvenience.

the information you were working on might be lost.

I'm starting to lose my sanity. Does anyone know what to do?I'm thinking your iTunes library got currupted somehow.

Rename this file

Itunes wont open, says Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
When I click on my Itunes icon a big box pops up and says Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience. And says tell microsoft about the problem, you know. And I've been trying to access the program for three days and it's doing the same thing, I got a trojan horse right before it started doing it, but I've gotten rid of it and scanned many times, it's gone. I also uninstalled and reinstalled both Itunes and quicktime but it still doesen't work, I really need ideas here..lol.
Please help me someone. I bought this Ipod 2 weeks ago for my daughters 18th and all we get is this stupid error message all the time. "Itunes have to close - error report etc etc." Have re-installed some many times I have lost count. Know very little about computers so need really simple instructions. I am really not impressed with this if any Apple technicans are reading this and want my money back!!!!

Itunes has encountered a problem and has to close.
When I opened iTunes the first time today, I had no problem, but then I went to the store, then my computer froze, so I closed it.. And now I downloaded the update and whenever I try to open it a box pops up saying "iTunes has encountered a problem and must close.. " Or at least something like that.
You also might find this information helpful:
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 9.1.0.79 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000000dd
and yes, my quicktime works fine..Yup, I've got the same problem although it's installed but now it just won't open and says it has a problem and has to close instantly the second you click a shortcut.
hi Frenchy!
you don't say explicitly so i'll ask you too. have you tried this procedure yet?
b noir, "itunes has encountered a problem. help please?" #8, 04:10pm Sep 18, 2005 CDT
make sure you follow the instructions precisely. if for any reason you can't complete the cleanup instructions, post back to describe the problem.
if your itunes still isn't launching after you try that, we'd better check to see if you've got a rare registry problem that can also produce the same error message.
we diagnose that by creating a new user account (with full administrative privileges). you can do that in your "user accounts" control panel. there's help documentation on it to the left of the screen. while you're in there, also switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
now log on to the new user account. can you successfully launch itunes from inside there?
keep us posted on your progress.

Itunes has encountered a problem and has to close ---- Please help me
I had to restore my computer this week. itunes was working fine before I restored. I have a video ipod. I installed from the disc but it encountered a problem half way through. I removed this using the control panel. I then downloaded itunes from apple.com. It installed it but it won't open, it comes up with itunes has encountered a problem and has to close.
I have used all the info on apple.com on how to deal with this, but to no avail.
Please can somebody help meI am having the same problem and error messages. I had a previous version of Itunes, but updated to the new version today after purchasing an ipod shuffle 2nd gen. I am told that itunes and quicktime installed successfully, but when i go to open itunes, i get the "Itunes has encountered a problem an needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." When i try to open Quicktime, it tells me "quicktime failed to initialize. error # 2905" when i go to the apple.com website and click on the Quicktime tab i get a "plugin error. The plugin did not initialize properly" Help.

Itunes has encountered a problem and must close..send error report etc.
I upgraded itunes (not even sure why since my old version was working fine) and now I keep getting the error that "itunes has encountered a problem and must close...". I did try the "msconfig" advice but that did not work. I even tried to use the CD that came with my ipod (March 2005) and the only option I get is to "uninstall" which I hesitate to do because I do not want to loose my itunes library. Does anybody have any other suggestions?? I greatly appreciate any help. I have read through some threads, but some of the "help" links that were inserted are no longer working.
Thanks!I'm having the same problem.
I updated to 8.1 and it closes as soon as the shuffle is plugged in.
So I tried disabling auto-sync. No luck
So I tried loading an older version of iTunes - says I have to have 8.1
So I tried uninstalling and removing all itunes related files - and reinstalling. Still closing every time I plug in. -
When I open iTunes, I receive an error that reads "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the convenience." When I click to see the error, it reads "AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 10.5.2.11 ModName: msvcr80.dll" Why ? I am overly frustrated. Please help. Not exactly sure which operating system I have. It is a dell laptop with xp.
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 10.5.2.11 ModName: msvcr80.dll
ModVer: 8.0.50727.6195 Offset: 00026b72
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 10.5.2.11 ModName: msvcr80.dll
ModVer: 8.0.50727.6195 Offset: 00026b72Well I was able to successfully revert back to iTunes8. Here's my steps:
1. In Add/Remove Programs I deleted all Apple products (iTunes, QuickTime, Safari, Bonjour, etc.)
2. I then check C:\Program Files\ and made sure all folders were deleted (QuickTime, etc.)
3. I then ran a Registry Cleaner program to make sure all entries from Apple products were removed.
4. I then rebooted my PC
5. I then downloaded iTunes8.0.2 from here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ipod_itunes/itunes802forwindows.html
6. After it installed it said it could use my iTunes library file because it was created with a newer version. So I re-created my library by following these steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
It took some time but iTunes is now back up and running. And I have all my playlists, etc. I haven't tried to sync anything yet. I'm just thrilled to have my iTunes back! -
Itunes will not open- "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close"
My iTunes will not open anymore, giving me the error message: "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes several times, and with different versions. Nothing I do seems to work. I have even copied the program files from a friend whose iTunes does work, hoping that would fix it, but to no avail. Has anyone discovered a way to fix this problem. I have a friend who has the same problem, but hasn't been able to fix it either.
What happens when you go into control panel, click on the Quick Tunes config icon, and then select the audio tab? If you get an error, Quick Time is corrupted. Also double check your sound card drivers. Can you play any sound at all? Does Windows Media Player function? What is you anti virus software?

Cannot open itunes, "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close"
I have tried numerous to times to download itunes update after having ipod display indicating not all songs have been transfered because of old version. I've tried disabling McAfee and getting windows updates, (I'm running XP)When I look in programs, ipod for updater it lists both 2004-08-06 and 2005-10-12. The error message reads" itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" Quicktime does not open either and gives the same error mess. Will uninstalling and reinstalling itunes help? and if so, I loose my entire collection right?
hi daytimer!
The error message reads" itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" Quicktime does not open either
hmmm. that strongly suggests that the itunes problem is due to a broken quicktime. let's try a careful standalone QT 7.0.3 reinstall first.
download and save the QT installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off all antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
does the install go through okay? if so, does itunes launch properly after that?

I get the message 'itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close' when trying to open itunes 11.1.1.11. I had to uninstall itunes so that I could load this version as the update to version 11 kept failing. The PC says 11.1.1.11 is correctly loaded, but I now cannot open itunes. Any advice on how to get itunes working again?
Hello there, ytnoj.
Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes can be a tricky endeavor and must be done in a very specific way. The following Knowledge Base article provides the step-by-step of the process:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows XP

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close
Just downloaded latest version of itunes with quicktime. Won't run. Get the Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close error to Microsoft message. Have latest Windows XP updates as well as latest Ipod updater. Have Norton Antivirus. Looked at task manager, nothing is running. Please help.
I shutdown my antivirus software(Norton). Downloaded the upgrade iTunes and Quicktime, then downloaded Quicktime by itself.(Don't know if this was necessary, but it worked.) Restarted the Norton. Problem resolved for now.

Since updating my iTune with the new version (10.2.1.1) I can't open my iTune!
I get the following every time I tried to open iTune:
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
The error report contains the following:
Event Type: BEX P1: iTunes.exe P2: 10.2.1.1 P3: 4d756476
P4: icuuc40.dll P5: 4.0.0.3207 P6: 4d3b6a8e P7: 00073335
P8: c0000409 P9: 00000000
Error Report Contents:
C:\DOCUME~1\BERLEW~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERb334.dir00\iTunes.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\BERLEW~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERb334.dir00\appcompat.txt
Can anyone here help me please??
I want my iTune back
MiguelThe problem is with the current version of icuuc40.dll .
Download the zip folder and extract icuuc40.dll from it.
When you open the zip folder the file is in icu\bin.
You need to replace your old version of icuuc40.dll with this one.
The file is in Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application support.

"Please tell Microsoft about this problem."

okay, it's time to check if you have a weird registry problem. (the problem i'm thinking about produces the same error message.)
we diagnose that by creating a new user account (with full administrative privileges). you can do that in your "user accounts" control panel. there's help documentation on it to the left of the screen. while you're in there, also switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
now log on to the new user account. can you successfully launch itunes from inside there?
