Itunes has encountered a problem and must close..send error report etc.

I upgraded itunes (not even sure why since my old version was working fine) and now I keep getting the error that "itunes has encountered a problem and must close...". I did try the "msconfig" advice but that did not work. I even tried to use the CD that came with my ipod (March 2005) and the only option I get is to "uninstall" which I hesitate to do because I do not want to loose my itunes library. Does anybody have any other suggestions?? I greatly appreciate any help. I have read through some threads, but some of the "help" links that were inserted are no longer working.

I updated to 8.1 and it closes as soon as the shuffle is plugged in.
So I tried disabling auto-sync. No luck
So I tried loading an older version of iTunes - says I have to have 8.1
So I tried uninstalling and removing all itunes related files - and reinstalling. Still closing every time I plug in.

Ive been trying to open my itunes for the past week and keep getting the same message " Itunes has encountered a problem and must close". Ive tried everything uninstalling and reinstalling numerous amounts of times. I've tried to uninstall quicktime and download the freestanding version no luck there. Every time I try to open iTunes or Quicktime from my desktop or anywhere else, this message comes up: "iTunes has encountered a problem and must close. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please click here to send an error report." Because of another problem on my computer, I have had to reinstall all my progams recently, including iTunes, but after installing and reinstalling a number of times yesterday, it cannot open. Other programs, like skype, are all working fine. Can someone help me figure out why my system can't open iTunes?

I keep receving this since I downloaded Itunes 7.2 that "Itunes has encountered a problem and must close." I have tried to Delete Quick time but its not in my program files but its in the control panel under quick time. When I click on it says" an exception occured while trying to run"C:\WINDOWS/system32/shell32.dll,Control_RUNDLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\QUICKTIME.cpl",QuickTime"..56 Before this I removed itunes software and thought I removed the quick time software.. i'm packing for a three day drive to chicago, il and would really like to have my ipod updated by morning. for a while, i was unable to open itunes or reinstall it. now that i have, it won't open, giving me that "itunes has encountered a problem and must close" window. anyone know how to help me out?

Did it work OK before and suddenly quit?
If so, that sounds like malware. Try scanning for malware with ewido (Free at www.ewido.net/en/)
If you just recently installed any other software, security update, windows update, IM update, yadda yadda, now would be a good time to mention it.

The only other thing I can suggest is to use the Repair option for iTunes.
Download the iTunes programme (do not uninstall your current iTunes) and then "install" the new copy. At some stage you should see an option to "install" or "Repair". Take the Repair option.
Once you've done that, if you still have a problem, I don't know what else to suggest, except to search through the discussions to see if anyone else has had the problem and managed to fix it.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

Since the install yesterday I keep getting an error message which itunes has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a soluion is available.

Ok. So I created a new account and iTunes did work. I went back into my original account and tried again and just to be more clear, after I open iTunes it asks me to accept or decline the agreement, I do that, then it says "updating library", and then one all the bars are full it closes and says "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close."
okay, let's start working through the user-account-specific causes of this message.
one possibility is damaged itunes preference files in the user account in which you're getting the crash. (there's a different set of those in each different user account, which is how we can get crashes limited to a single user account.)
if that is what is going on, we can often get past this by rebuilding the preference files in the account that is crashing. for the preference files rebuild technique, see my reply to kusma in this post:

I have just purchased the photography package on my windows 8 computer and everytime I open photoshop an error message pops up saying that windows has encountered a problem and needs to close the program. Keep in mind that it's your responsibility to provide a problem-free working environment on your computer for Photoshop, and system software (such as display drivers) can have problems.
Look in your Windows Event Logs (specifically, your Application Log) for the info requested above on the specific crashes.

"Internet Explorer 6.0 has encountered a problem and must close" when trying to download of Adobe Re

I've used a long time the Adobe Reader 6.0, but lately it could not open in the browser many pdf files written with the new Acrobat applications. Then I tried to download Adobe Reader 8.1.3 from the Adobe site, understanding that Reader 9 still has some bugs, and I got really stuck...
It seems that the root of the problem lies in an Active X add-on for IE (gp.ocx , published by Adobe Systems Incorporated).
After releasing a lot of security limitations on the browser, I've finally got:
"IE has encountered a problem with an add-on and needs to close".
The following add-on was running when this problem occurred:
File: gp.ocx
Company Name: Adobe Systs. Inc.
Description: Adobe DLM
I have verified that this ActX add-on appears as Enabled in the list of IE add-ons, but I could not update it (may be it is old or rough enough to stop IE 6.0 in a XPpro sp 2 environment. An intent to disable it caused another Installation failure. A trial to update it resulted in an announcement that it is not clear where to update it, if any.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve or at least skirt this problem?

The problem occurs during installation.
At the first stage, short download installs the GetPlus
DLM (Download Manager). I can see it installed in
Settings --> Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs.
Then it leaves a shortcut with the Adobe icon in my Desktop
reading "Resume Adobe Downloads".
When I press it (shortcut to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" AND ALSO TO "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NOS\nosget_start_manager_15235.html")
the real download of the files should begin.
It just opens the downloading applet and before downloading anything

Error message: firefox.exe has encountered a problem and must close appears when clicking on certain links

This only began recently and only on certain sites, for example, links within the New York Times site. I've updated Firefox and plugins. I also checked for nsBrowserOpt.dll file within Firefox components - not present.

I'm asking for more information.
Please try that in [[safe mode]] and check for the issue.
