ITUNES HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE PROBLEMS
PLEASE HELP ME. I CAN NOT GET INTO ITUNES. I KEEP GETTING THE ERROR MESSAGE "ITUNES HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE" ERROR . WHAT MUST I DO? ITRIED TO REINSTALL THE SOFTWARE,BUT IT DID NOT WORK. HELP
First, try to check your Quicktime installation--this has been discussed over and over again on the forum. If Quicktime won't launch--that's the problem. You can uninstall and reinstall this application.
I just had this failure a few days ago. I chose to "repair" my Quicktime installation instead of re-doing the whole thing. I TURNED OFF MY VIRUS PROTECTION AND FIREWALL BEFORE I PROCEEDED! Then, I let Windows run a repair and everything worked properly afterwards!

"iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close" -Gapless Playback
I've had this problem for a while now and I'm just plain sick of it!
Every time I start up iTunes it does the "Determining Gapless Playback" thing, but when it gets to certain songs it freezes up and I get an error message that says:
"iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close"
This happenes to a lot of songs (a few dozen)and the only way I can actually access my library is by hitting the 'x'next to "Determining Gapless Playback" before it gets to the songs. However, now I can't even do that because it gets to the song immediately.
I need to know if I can disable the gapless playback or somehow debug this (I have reinstalled iTunes, Quicktime works, I have reloaded my library, done a system restore, and changed users/startup programs... nothing works)
PLEASE help!
I run XP if that helps.Kar,
Check out the steps Roy B posted in this thread. They are long and a bit convoluted, but they seem to have done the trick for many others having this problem. -
"iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close" - can't open iTunes
Hi guys,
I'm a huge Apple fan so I obviously decided to upgrade to Apple 7.0.1 the day it came out... installed it. Opened it up, but within just a few seconds i got a Windows message saying
"iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close"
I reinstalled it and still have the same problem.
First few days I could atleast keep iTunes open for a few minutes before the message, but now its down to just a few seconds.
I run Windows XP if that helps any.
Please help me fix this problem or tell me how I can put iTunes 6 back on my computer --- I need my music!
ThanksAfter downloading and installing 7.0.1 my iTunes would not open either. Even worse is you can't go back to v6 if you had v7 running--the database is updated.
Luckily I was able to get my iTunes to open again by doing the following:
Click Start/Run
Type in "%userprofile%\application data\apple computer"
Right click on the iTunes folder and rename it to iTunes.bak.
Close the window.
Click Start/Run again.
Type in "%userprofile%\local settings\application data\apple computer"
Right click on the iTunes folder and rename it to iTunes.bak.
Close the window.
Try opening your iTunes again. It may re-ask some general setup questions, but mine opened without the error, and it still had all my music. However, I did have to re-authorize my computer.
I used to never be leary about updating iTunes... guess Apple's software ain't no peach, either.
Hope this helps someone.

Itunes has encountered an error and needs to close...HELP!
I am trying to get my son's new ipod nano ready for music, I have downloaded itunes, but it will not open. When I click on the icon, a message that says "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" It asks if I want to send an error report. I have uninstalled and reinstalled (twice) I do not have Norton or any other anti-virus, apparantly. I have restarted a couple of times. I have ready MANY threads on similar issues, tried most with no luck. any suggestions, son is bgetting anxious-all he has done is look at his new ipod for 2 days!
emachines Windows XP 1.80GHz Intel Celeron, 40GB hdThis error could be caused by a number of things. Try it one more time, and if the error comes up write down what kind of error it is (ie. Symantec, Runtime,). Then do a google search for that. You may be able to find a solution elsewhere.

I recently updated my iPad 2 to iOS 5 beta 2 and updated iTunes to the second beta. Now whenever I connect my iPad toitunes,it instantly pops up with an error message saying "iTunes has stopped working. A problemcaused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program." iTunes still mdetects my other two iPhones and iPod touch on 3.1.3, 4.1, and 4.2.1. Also, iTunes will recognize my iPad just fine on the administrator account.
You are using ADE on Windows or Mac ? and their versions ??
Please restart your machine and try once again.

Itunes has encountered an error and needs to close
Hey >< Alright, so i didn't start having this problem until today. It was working fine a week ago, and I've tried tons of options.
(Uninstalling completely and doing completely clean reinstalls,
trying quicktime with it, so on.)
I also have the newest version of itunes installed.
I've tried restarting my computer several times, disabling my virus protection.. Nothing works.
The computer i am using would be a Windows XP Professional; SP3.
The product i am using itunes with would be an Iphone 3GS. Anyway, No matter how hard i try, I've even tried installing older versions.
To no avail. The Error details I'm getting are these:
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 10.6.3.25 ModName: gdiplus.dll ModVer: 5.2.6002.22791 Offset: 0002edde
I would really like some help. I honestly don't know what to do next.Okay, Turns out Quicktime isn't working either.
This is what it's giving me:
EventType : BEX
P1 : QuickTimePlayer.exe
P2 : 7.72.80.56
P3 : 4f8f7ca4
P4 : QuickTimePlayer.dll
P5 : 7.72.80.56
P6 : 4f8f7c8a
P7 : 00005b6d
P8 : c0000409
P9 : 00000000
I really want to put music on my iphone.. -
ITunes has encountered an error and needs to close XP SP3
Hello everyone,
I know you might have discussed this before, but I could not get the right discussion about it. So yesterday, my windows decided to go from XP SP2 to SP3. Internet Explorer got installed and now everytime I try to open iTunes I get the same error. When I check the task manager, I can see iTuneshelper.exe working. Does anybody know how to fix this?. I think Katrina posted something about DEF and give permission to iTunes to run, is that right?
Looking forward to hear from you,I used RegCleaner and found a lot of bad entries in my registry. Cleaned it, erased any folder for iTunes or Quicktime and rebooted. Installed iTunes+Quicktime again and it worked. Lost everything though. In case somebody might need this information

Apparently quite a few people have been bumping into the problem that, when trying to update Itunes on windows, it complains about a missing Itunes.msi file. If you Browse for this file however, you’ll find it in the location that it’s supposed to be (C:\Program Files\Apple Software Update\Packages).
I tried a few things to fix this, including downloading the latest iTunes from Apple’s website. After about 30 minutes of digging, I discovered that there’s a very simple fix.
1. Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
2. Install the program (MS Office not required!)
3. Run the program from Start->All Programs->Windows Install Cleanup Utility
4. Click on iTunes, and then click the “Remove” button
5. Run the iTunes installer! -
Itunes has encountered an error and needs to close, while importing music
Can someone please help me? I have been getting this error all week and everything was fine 2 weeks ago. I have done EVERYTHING under the unexpected quits, freezes or launch issues in the itunes support!!!!! What can I do next? I have even "repaired" itunes.
Kar,

How do I fix iTunes. It all of a sudden stopped opening one day? I have uninstalled and reinstalled it but it still won't open. How can this be fixed?
Generate another of those error messages and click the "Click here" link in the error message box. What modname and modver are showing for the error? (Precise spelling please.)
If the error is a BEX and thus doesn't show an modname or modver, let us know what P1 through P9 items are showing for you instead. -
"itunes has experienced an error and needs to close"
while trying to import my c.d. collection to itunes, i quite often get the message "itunes has experienced an error and needs to close. do you want to send the error to microsoft?" it usually takes me about 20 minutes to import 1 c.d. to itunes becuase i have to keep re-opening itunes after it closes. i never lose anything i have already imported. sometimes i will get through 5 songs before i get the error message, sometimes i cant get through a single song. whats the deal here??
What if you try importings CDs to your computer (not to iTunes) Is this normally working? If yes the problem is in ITunes and if no the problem is maybe your CD player. If the problem is in iTunes you should try to download the latest version from the Apple pages and then update/reinstall.

"Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" problem.
Before you read anything, please understand that I am literally being driven to tears right now and that I am on the brink of insanity.
On Saturday, I tried to update my iPod with new songs and apps that I got from the iTunes stores since Friday. Itunes would open but in the next 10 seconds following it, the error window that says "Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" etc. came up. I let it go for like two hours, thinking it was a small bug or something, and I ran a virus scan too, just to make sure (I just switched to AVG too on Saturday). Two hours later, iTunes STILL wouldn't work and by that time, I was about to become upset. I uninstalled and then reinstalled iTunes about 5 times that day. Now today, iTunes is still giving me the same problem. I know other users have faced similiar problems but someway or another, they found a way to fix it.
I have tried EVERYTHING to fix iTunes. I even did a Quicktimes and an iTunes run to get rid of any and all files associated with the two programs. When I finally thought the nightmare would end, I downloaded iTunes again. However, not only did it NOT work but now EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY SONGS that I had in my library were GONE. No traces, nothing. Even the movies that I had on it had vanished. Everything single thing that I bought in the iTunes store disappeared. Now, at this point, I am now both incredibly frustrated, and crying my freaking eyes out now. (Understand that I am 15 years old and I grew up with music as my only solace.)
Somebody, just please help me through this ****. All I wanted was to just update my iPod so I could listen to it in school, and now my music is gone, along with a dead iPod. -_-I found my solution! In case you're still having trouble, here's what I did (please pardon the odd grammar, I copy-and-pasted this from another one of my questions!):
And for those of you who are still experiencing this problem, this is what I did. Although I don't know your details and your own specific problems, I hope this can be at least a helpful guide. (The solution was incredibly simple and easy that I am extremely mad at myself for deleting all of my files now...)
First, just for safety measures, run a virus scan and a malware scan (so you can get rid of those icky programs lurking in your computer). Once you're done with that, check to see if your computer has an update for you (those automatic updates you get that comes with every Windows computer). If you do, click on it and update your computer. Once it's done, restart your computer and VIOLA! Itunes is fixed, Quicktime is fixed, and Adobe Reader is fixed.
It's insane. I guess this just goes to show that even the simplest of things can fix such a mind-boggling problem! Before you take extreme and drastic measures, follow through with the simplest of solutions first! -
Ever since the update, when I load iTunes it encounters an error and force closes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything Apple twice and that hasn't fixed the issue. Is there a way to go back to an older version of iTunes?
