Itunes has gone pear shaped for me

it was all working just fine - then i update my itunes and ipod firstly it all went american dollars and told me that song after song was not accessible from the uk store then after updateing itunes again it tells me that my network connection was refused etc etc - help!

When Disk Utility can't repair disk because of an unrepairable error, that usually indicates a bad directory. That's not necessarily a bad drive. Just some issues with the mapping of the hard drive at the directory level. Assuming you are backed up, you can try a third party directory repair solution. See this FAQ:

  • 10.4.6 Won't install now everything has gone pear shaped!

Tried installing via software update only to be told installation could not be completed, so I tried downloading the PowerPC update, ran the installer only to be told again that due to an error, can't be installed.
Now, when I try and run Software Update, it hangs, tried deleting SU prefs file but still hangs. When I try running the installer it gets as far as the section where you select a drive to install, only to be presented with a blank window and no drive to install on.
I've tried running Disk Utility from the start up drive only to be told that a back ground utility didn't start up for it to run.
Starting up from the Install DVD and running Disk Utility, running disk repair results in an unrepairable error, can't save the log to record the file, if needed will boot up again and write down the error.
Is the root of my problems the duff HD? Should I go for back up and reformat or am I looking at a new drive?
Any reasons for the update problems?
    Any help at all??
Didn't have any trouble like this before trying to update to 10.4.6.
    Thanks Gavin

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • My iTunes has gone transparent - how can I fix it?

My iTunes has gone transparent - how can I fix it?
When I load up iTunes I can see all of words but no background, its impossible to use! Please help.

Glad to hear you got things working again, Claire.
I had an IT friend of mine come over and it turns out it was the firewall, it wouldn't let iTunes have access to certain things so he granted it permission and it was instantly fixed.
Thank you kindly for reporting back about your resolution. Apologies for the nosy question, but which make of firewall are you using? (Although I've seen firewall permissions implicated in other iTunes problems, I hadn't seen one associated with a "transparent" iTunes before ... so I was thinking it might be worth checking on the possibility with other folks reporting a transparent iTunes where the DirectX and/or video drivers don't seem to be involved.)

Let's try a repair install of iTunes.
    Restart the PC first.
If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair".
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", and click "Change". Select "Repair" and click "Next" as per the following screenshot:

  • Windows installed updates and now itunes has gone!

last night windows installed updates as it shut down and now when ive loaded up in the morning itunes has gone. ive tried repairing through add/remove programs, downloading a new version and removing the old version but each time it comes up with this message:
the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unvailable. click ok to try again or enter an alternative path to the folder containing installation package 'itunes.msi'.
does anyone know where to find this or an alternative way of sorting it out?
    cheers.

    Hi
    First sorry to hear that.
Not all is lost. This is what you do.
    1) Goto itunes.com. Install iTunes. Open it. Sign in to itunes so it displays your email address in itunes.
After goto your itunes store in itunes. There is a purchased tab. Click on in. It should list everything you purchased, books, songs, apps. Press the cloud with the down arrow. That will start the download process to your computer. I know the movie part you must download one at a time or it will crash. I hope that helps.

  • ITune has created several folders for the same album title.  How do I consolidate those folders into 1?

iTune has created several folders for the same album title.  How do I consolidate those folders into 1 without consolidating all albums?

I don't think you want to combine all of the HTML into one file. That doesn't make too much senese. If you wanted to, then just copy everything from all 3 files between <body></body> and paste into one html file between <body></body>. I think what you're trying to do is create seperate static pages. I would read/youtube how to setup a blogger website. • It's all gone pear shaped - no HD log & transfer or ws export to Apple TV

    Hi
I have tried everything but admit to being stumped now. Problems are as follows:
About 3 months ago I saved a large number of .MTS files from my Panasonic HDC-SD1 high def camcorder. They loaded into FCE4 fine and I could log and transfer them all. I was not in a position to edit at the time so they have been sat on my hard disk. Today I tried to load them and FCE4 just says that it doesn't recognise them. I know I have loaded them before as I have edited one quick snippet and put it on my web page but now FCE (or iMovie08 or iMovie06 ) refuse to load the files. Is there an update that has screwed up the use of Panasonic MTS files? This is causing me a real problem as I can't find any way to load and edit them.
I was also trying to export a 16:9 DV film I have edited on FCE4 to use on apple tv via the default export option (this also worked 2 months ago) but now it exports via itunes as 4:3 instead of 16:9. Finder says it is 16:9, itunes imports as 4:3. All very frustrating.
    Anyone any ideas?
    Thanks
    Robbie

    Bonjour Michel
thanks for the post. I followed the link you suggested. I erased all the current files and re-copied the entire disk to my external drive. However, even with all the directory structure in place the FCE program fails to open them when I get to the MTS folder ... then it dawned on me to browse at the top level (the equivalent of the disk itself) and hey presto it works. Not intuitive but now that I have realised what to do the rest should be fine.
Thank you very much for your help.
Now if only I could re-create the structure of the ones from Feb (as the file info .cpi information has gone and I only have the .mts files) ... and the 4:3 in itunes ... still one step at a time.
    Merci beaucoup
    Robbie

  • Everything in iTunes has gone!!

I remember that once I restarted my computer and opened iTunes regularly, and I found my play list is blank which means everything has gone. its like I reinstalled the program. However I didn't. what I did was add my 3000 songs again.... and I also cannot load my library.
I'm just wondering what the problem was, and I'm afraid that could happen again on me.

These question marks are on your dock? And you can't open applications from your dock?
If so, try this: Open a new finder window and navigate to the Applications folder in your hard disk. The applications in question should still be in there (the Applications folder). So drag each of the application icons that you want to be available on your dock from the Applications folder onto your dock, one by one. Take each of your question mark icons that are on the dock and drag them off the dock to get rid of them. See if that fixes you up.
Now, if your hard disk no longer has an Applications folder in it, or the Applications folder is empty, you are going to have to reinstall OS 10.6 then do a software update to bring you back up to OS 10.6.8. You may be able to just go to the "optional installs" folder on the installer DVD and maybe all the stock applications are there -- I don't remember and I don't have an installer DVD handy to look. That would be way easier than doing a full blown OS reinstall. Also, as I recall, if OS 10.6 was on the computer when you bought it from the store, I think there should be an "extras" DVD that has a handful of applications that could be reinstalled from it, too.

  • My music on iTunes has gone completely wrong. Could anyone please help me?

Hello everyone. I'll try and keep this as unconvoluted as possible so here goes...
I have iTunes 10.4.1.10, although the problem started with the previous update. I was trying to sync music from a Top rated playlist to a new iPhone (a 3GS with up-to-date-software) when I noticed that some of the albums which I had previously has on had disappeared. All of  my albums are saved onto an external hard drive, but the album icons were not on the music library. I put the albums back on (and a few new ones) and a message came up saying that the albums/songs were already there and would I like to replace them; I clicked the 'yes' button. I went about giving the songs I wanted in my Top Rated with no problems and went to sync them as normal. This is where it goes wrong.
iTunes goes through the syncing motions (Steps 1 and 2), reaches Step 3 where it syncs the songs, syncs about 40 of the songs (there are 770 in total) before reaching one of the songs which I had found missing and had put on again. iTunes crashes ( I think that describes it: the 'syncing bar' at the top stays frozen on the song, it will not shut down but everntually stops trying to syns and I can shut it down again; and when I look at the iPod on my iPhone it says cancelling sync and then that it is updating the library before going back to normal).
This was done on the first attempts, now when I try it syncs one songs before the problem song before going wrong. A thing to note about the song before is that the song that ends up on my ipod isn't the one it said that it was syncing, and the songs do not appear to be added in any sort of order.
After this I get a message that the song that caused this cannot be found: 'Attempting to copy to the disk "Charlie's iPhone" failed. An unknown error occurred (-69).' Sometimes this is followed by a similar message which says that the song in question cannot be found.
When I put my hard drive into the computer it says that there may be a problem with some of the files on the hard drive and would I like to scan and fix them, but it does not specify whether those files are music files (there are photo files, Word files, all sorts on it). I haven't given it permission to do so yet, this has not caused problems with previous i-Pods -Phones or Tunes and I don't exactly see how this would affect it now anyway seeing as the files have been re-done (burned off of iTunes and stored on the hard drive directly), but this may help work out the problem.
A few last things. There is are albums which I definately have NOT put onto iTunes or my hard drive which has appeared on my iTunes music selection and I highly doubt are in the house (Bob Acri's self-titled album containing just song 3 and Fine Music, Vol. 1 by Richard Stoltzman containing the second song), they may have been added onto the computer by another family member and just innocently found their way on iTunes and my hard drive, but they're not the sort of thing anyone in my family would listen to, so maybe that might help someone diagnose the problem too.
Also, the same thing is happening with my laptop, which has the previous update to the one I mentioned above. This would suggets that its either the new updates fault or the hard drive's fault, I would suspect it would be the former as the laptop too did not have any issues like this, or indeed at all, before the two updates.
Anyway, thank you for taking the time for reading through, and if anyone could offer any hints or tip or advice to get iTunes back to speed I would be very grateful.
    Thank you!

Having a similar issue.  Everytime i restart itunes its like its the first time its run and wants to look for music.   Yes, please help!

  • ITunes has gone apesh*t! Please help! (can't locate files)

    Good day!
I recently installed iTunes 7 (a few weeks ago, I guess.) For the most part, it has been working fine. But tonight, when I opened iTunes, it asked questions as if it had just been installed for the first time.
Now, all my music is stored on an external hard drive (J: Drive), and it defaulted that it was in my "My Music" folder in "My Documents", so I fixed that, and that didn't solve my problem: It can't locate any of my songs. (Here's the weird part, it can play the handful of MPEG files I have, but not the 99% AAC files. Both types are on the external hard drive). It lists them, but can't locate them, and i don't want to tell it the exact location of almost 5000 songs.
I tweaked a bit with my "iTunes Library" music database file, but that didn't help. Does the XML file ("iTunes Music Library") have any purpose?
    Help me out!

    I'm having the same problem.
iTunes lost about 100+ of my songs. I can manually go through and fix them but I'd rather not go through each one and track it down. I can see what's wrong in the library xml file but fixing them there doesn't do anything.
I tried recreating my library files and iTunes completely lost the songs along with several podcasts and all my playlists. Thankfully I'd backed up the library files before trying this, so I'm back where I started.
The date sounds about right, was that when the update before 7.5 came out? I also noticed that iTunes had reset my library location around that time(caught it and fixed it though).
