ITunes has reorganised albums-  where did Santana's Supernatural go?

I've just installed iTunes and imported MP3s from an existing folder ripped using Windows Media Player.
When WinMP ripped the CDs it organised them into Albums. For example- Santana's Supernatural into a folder for Santana and a subfolder for Supernatural. After installing iTunes I still have a folder for Santana and Supernatural but any of the songs he did with other performers are now in their own folders.
The same happened to several other folders such as Dave Matthews, Ja Rule, Nelly, Snoop, etc. Whenever another artist appears the MP3s have been removed from the proper folder and put in their own.
Is there a way of getting the old organisation back? If not, and I have to re-rip these CDs how do I keep it from happening again?
Thank you,
Rob

If you do not want them in the 'Compilations' folder of your music (as hudgie explains) but in the same Artist/Album folder, then the only recourse you have is to change all the Artist names to the same thing (take away all the secondary Artists).
Select all tracks from the same Album and 'Get Info'. Edit the Artist field to be the same.

Downloaded films (and those synced from your computer) should be in the Videos app (iTunes on the iPad is just the iTunes store) :

  • ITunes has stopped remembering where my library is

I am using Windows 8 and iTunes 11, whatever the latest version is.
My music library is F:/MyMusic/iTunes/iTunes Music. Everything is in the iTunes folder: the music files, the iTunes library files, etc. You can tell because the folder is "iTunes Music" that it was created a while ago, before it was changed to "iTunes Media" or whatever it is now. Anyway, I have never kept multiple libraries, or split my libraries, or anything. iTunes had no problem recognizing this setup or accepting that my library wasn't on the C drive until a couple of days ago. I've had it this way since I got my present computer a few months ago and put the library folder on it. I didn't have any problems then with getting iTunes to run the library from the F drive. Remember, nothing has ever been on the C drive.
Here's what happened: my iPod was dead. It is from 2006, so it's quite old and loses its charge fast now. Anyway, I plugged it in and got the message on it that says the battery is low. Same as always. Usually when it gets enough juice the computer recognizes the device, iTunes launches, it syncs and all the other stuff that is supposed to happen happens. This time, though, the iPod seemed to get stuck a couple of times. The screen would flash but then the low battery message would come back. After this happened a couple of times I unplugged the iPod. Then I replugged the iPod. This time it connected but when iTunes launched I got the license message. I hit ACCEPT and it opened up without any media at all. No music, nothing. It was as if iTunes was launching for the first time. My first thought was that my library had somehow been erased. That turned out not to be true. What had happened was that iTunes for some reason had created a new library in the default location in Windows 8 - C:\Users\Username\Music\iTunes. It had never done this before and I'm not sure why it started doing that now. The hiccup with the iPod my have been simply a coincidence, though I don't think so.
I found the original library on F where it always was and it was intact; iTunes had simply forgotten where it was. The problem is that even though I use the various tricks to get iTunes to recognize it, it keeps forgetting it. That includes changing the directory location in preferences and using the Shift+iTunes command to select a library manually. SHIFT+iTunes works for a little bit, but eventually iTunes forgets and reverts to the default library it has created on C. Sometimes it even forgets the C location and when I launch iTunes it throws the license at me. I have tried deleted both libraries, uninstalling iTunes, etc. etc. etc. Nothing has helped. No matter how often I tell iTunes to use the correct library on F, it insists on reverting to the default library on C, which it keeps recreating if I delete it. And as mentioned, sometimes it forgets it has created it, since half the time the license pops up as though I were using iTunes for the first time. Even when I open the F library, it throws the stupid tutorials at me, as though I'd never used it before.
I am at my wit's end trying to solve this. It may be something complicated, it may be something simple. But I have no idea what it is. iTunes was working fine and now has become utterly useless. Something has gone wrong. Any help solving it would be appreciated. I apologize writing a lot, but I thought I should be as detailed as possible. Thanks.

See the thread Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml? It doesn't seem to affect every McAfee user, and it seemed to get fixed, then came back again. iTunes routinely updates certain files by creating a new .tmp version, deleting the original, then renaming the .tmp copy. For one reason or another McAfee has been causing problems with the preferences file for some users over recent months, AVG with the main .itl file. In neither case does excluding the relevant file location seem to help prevent the problem. Try disabling McAfee as test.  I'd still recommend ditching it for MSE.

  • HT2905 Display Duplicates is missing from iTunes 11 .. Where did it go?

    Downloaded the Latest iTunes 11.
It looks good, except I can not find the Display Duplicates Function. Where did it go?

Two Windows scripts to make playlists of Duplicates and Exact Duplicates. Use shift-delete to remove selected tracks from the library as well as the playlist.
There is also my DeDuper script if you don't want to do it by hand. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background.
    Enjoy.

  • Itunes has 111 albums that are not mine...

My main computer (i.e. where all of the physical files are) is Windows 7.  I've turned on home sharing on that computer.
Downstairs is a Macbook Air.  When opening up iTunes there, it doesn't see my library (it's always been iffy at best), but it's showing me 115 albums on my Macbook.  In my entire life I've probably purchased 4 or 5 albums max from iTunes.  In browsing through the other 111, these are albums I've never seen, never owned, and for the most part would never listen to.  They are not physically on the Macbook or any other computer in the house.
I tried to reauthorize the Macbook in iTunes (even though it does show my Apple ID) but it just locks up.

To clarify, how many computers do you have ?
Windows 7, MacBook and MacBook Air?

    Sharing or Home Sharing?

So you’re on your MacBook Air and you open iTunes on it and view the Home Shared library of the MacBook?
Do any of these songs play?
There’s no “fixup” to the AppleID you need to worry about.

  • Since the latest Firefox update, the Personas icon (brown fox) that appeared in the bottom left corner, has disappeared. Where did it go and how do I get it back?

I have a Personas account. The brown fox icon was present in the bottom left corner of my screen before the latest version of Firefox downloaded, but is not there anymore. I have to go to the Personas web site now whenever I want to manage my Persona. Previously, all I had to do was click on the brown fox, and do what I wanted to do from there.
Why has this changed, and how to I put it back to the way it was before?

    Try this:
    http://www.downloadhelper.net/manual.php
You may need to manually add the icon to your toolbar.

  • C210M2 LSI MegaRAID has slot2 missing, where did it go?

CIMC doesn't have any errors, just seems the Slot:2
, SAS, HDD 135.972GB is missing in action
See attached screen show from MegaRAID BIOS Config Utility.
I have applied the latest host upgrade 1.3.1d.1

I swapped a known good 146GB drive into that slot.  I then swapped the LSI MegaRAID card with a known good (I have a lot of spare parts:) and it seems to be the chassis drvie enclosure, which doesn't seem to be field replaceable. Calling TAC.

  • "iTunes has stopped working" as soon as I click "play"

iTunes has been running on my new PC for the last couple of weeks no problems. I installed quicktime and now it will not work. I have tried to fully uninstall all Apple software and reinstall and same problem occurs.
There is only one user on the PC with admin privilegdges, however when I start iTunes as Administrator it works. I don't understand.
    PC details:
    Windows Version: 7 64-bit
    RAM: 16gb
    Processor: i7-3930K 3.2GHz
    Video Card: GTX660
    Sound Card: ASUS Xonar D2/PM
    CD Burner: LG BH16NS40 Blu-Ray

I have been away for a few days, so only doing this now. I follwed instructions and established it was user specific, I got to this stage of teh instructions:
    Remove iTunes Preference files
Some of the files that iTunes uses to store settings and preferences may be unusable and cause issues. iTunes has two folders where preferences are saved. Move one of them to the desktop and test to see if the issue persists. If it does, move it back and remove the second folder. The location for the two preference folders are:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
I have no "Roaming" folder in AppData, in fact I searched PC and there is no "Roaming" folder. Moving the first file was no help.
How come I have no Roaming folder and how do I create one. iTunes has been reinstalled several times since I had this problem, including following the procedure for totally removing Apple products and starting from scratch etc.

  • Does itunes have any plans where u pay by the month?

i was wondering if itunes has any plans where i pay by the month an get unlimited music, apps, etc?

Itunes is NOT a subscription service.
    You purchase content.
    Sorry.

  • This version of itunes has expired?

I cannot open iTunes, only says, "This copy of iTunes has expired." Where do I find the newest version?

You apparently got hold of a beta version which, as beta versions often do, had an expiration date and hence has now stopped working. You can download the release version of iTunes via the "iTunes" tab above. You'll probably have to delete the copy of iTunes currently on your system before installing the release version or it won't work (do not delete any of the files in the iTunes folder in your user home folder).

    Hello there, tonjay82.
There are some great sources of information in the following article that might help you in resolving the issue at hand:
    iOS: Understanding Restrictions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4213
Particularly of note is the following:
You can enable and adjust Restrictions, or Parental Controls, on your device to prevent access to specific features or content on the device. Locate these settings by tapping Settings > General > Restrictions.
            and
    Additional Information
If your iOS device is missing a particular application or if a certain feature is not available, ensure that Restrictions are not enabled. Symptoms can include:
App missing from the Home screen (Safari, Camera, or YouTube for example)
Feature or service unavailable (Siri, Location Services, and so on)
Setting missing or grayed out (such as Mail, Contacts, and Calendar; iCloud; Twitter; FaceTime)
Important: Restrictions can also be enabled or enforced using a profile (typically installed when using the device for business or education purposes). You can check for installed profiles in Settings > General > Profiles.
Thank you for reaching out to us at Apple Communities on this issue.
    Cheers,
    Pedro D.

  • Where are all the songs and whole albums i bought for i tunes? i have a new macbook but iTunes has none of my paid for music

where are all the songs and whole albums i bought for i tunes? i have a new macbook but iTunes has none of my paid for music

Your purchases won't automatically show in your new Mac's iTunes library. If you go into iTunes > Preferences and on the Store tab tick the 'show iTunes in the cloud purchases' then what you can redownload should show in the Music part of your library with a cloud icon against them - click on the cloud to download them. Or click on your name towards the top right of iTunes and then click Purchased on the popup, and you can redownload them from there.
If you've moved countries since buying the music, or if the rights-holders have removed them from the store, then you won't be able to redownload them. In that case if you still have your old computer then you could copy them over from that (e.g. via an external drive : How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support or via home sharing), or copy them from your backup of your downloads/library and add them via File > Add Too Library

Hi there Sing Me A Song,
You may have changed the Up Next list in iTunes. Take a look at the article below for more information on the Up Next lists and how to edit it.

  • Where did this album artwork come from???????

Recently I sync'd my iPod (5G) and iTunes added an album cover to all my songs in the Rock genre. All my albums in the rock genre now have the same artwork on my iPod. However on my iTunes, the album artwork is correct for each bands individual album and there is only one album cover in each songs information file. How did this happen? This is the first time this has ever happened. There are even a couple of random albums I bought on iTunes where the album cover art was placed on some bands album art which have not been changed in a year, but on iTunes the correct album cover is the one shown on my computer screen. Am I making any sense? Can you guys help me??
