  • Everytime i load up i-tunes about 30 seconds in i get an error message saying i-tunes has to shut down,i currently use windows XP?

I use an old laptop which still uses windows xp,i have a new  laptop coming today which uses windows 8,my problem is that when i load up i-tunes,after about 30 seconds of using it,an error warning appears, those ones that asks if you want to send an error report. It is telling me that i-tunes has to shut down which it then does when you either send a report or just cancel,is this because of windows xp no longer getting support or whatever?

    Hi nodski67,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand you have an alert that keeps popping up in iTunes on your Windows XP computer that forces iTunes to quit. I suggest working through the following article to isolate and resolve this situation.

  • Itunes doesn't shut down completely, can't be restarted without ending task tree

For the past 3 years, whenever I use Itunes on my windows 7 laptop, the program sometimes has trouble shutting down completely. I have reinstalled itunes through the many versions during the past three years; many times, to no avail. Even though the window will close, when I try to open it again, nothing happens. Sometimes the windows circle appears briefly, but Itunes does not start.
When I open the task manager, I find that Itunes is still running, although it doesn't appear anywhere else, including the notification area (lower right corner of the status bar). Once I shut down the process, I can start Itunes again.
While this is a minor inconvenience, I worry that I am doing damage to other programs on my computer, or to my external hard drive (my itunes music collection is about 1.5 TB).
Other information that may be useful:
I am running Itunes 12.1.2.27, 64 bit. However, this problem has existed on all versions of itunes I have used on this computer for the past three years
When using any text field in Itunes (search field, changing track names, etc), the text field expands in a way that suggests some part of the code is missing. Also, the icon for itunes in the taskbar looks extremely low resolution (the circle is pixelated, not smooth).

If it's happening on that computer even after re-installing multiple times you may want to contact Microsoft to have them look at your registry. It seems that this has been happening for quite some time with no resolution. In my experience, the registry on the PC was off and once that was corrected I never had an issue.

  • 13" MacBook Pro 2009 Spontaneously Shuts Down

For the past few days, my MacBook has been shutting down without warning while plugged in and fully charged. I initially thought it was due to an old battery, since the battery life had been unpredictable enough to cause sudden shut downs at around ~15% battery life in the past, so I had the battery replaced today. However, it has not fixed the sudden shut down problem. I've reset the NVRAM and SMC, since I read it could help the problem, but neither has helped.
From what I can tell, there is no common factor between the shut downs. Sometimes they occur shortly after one another (for example, sometimes I'll turn the computer back on and it shuts down again before I can even open a browser), and sometimes they occur hours after the previous shut down. Temperature doesn't seem to be a factor, since the laptop has been quiet and cool almost every time this has happened. Also, every time the computer restarts, the clock is reset to ~2000, and I have to manually change it to 2013 before selecting a working wireless network. (However, once I'm connected to the network, the time does successfully sync with the official Apple time, as per the default setting.) The only other detail I can think to add is in regards to the power cord's indicator light: Whenever the laptop suddenly shuts down, the light goes dark. Also, even if I try to turn the computer back on while the indicator light is dark, I'm unsuccessful. I'm only able to boot the computer up once the indicator light returns. (99% of these random shut downs have occurred while the charger was plugged in, so I don't have much information for how it behaves on battery power. I'm currently testing that, but because of the unpredictability of the shut downs, I don't know when it will happen again.)
Is there any precedence for this? I'm sure I need to take my laptop in to an Apple store to get it checked, but it would be nice to have an idea of what's wrong with it—for example, what could be wrong/damaged and a ballpark figure of how much it could cost to fix.
    Thanks!

There's really no telling what's exactly wrong with your machine without having the diagnostic tools to check it out - which Apple techs at Apple Stores and AASPs have. So my advic eis to get it diagnosed and get an estimate for repair.

my iPhone 4 has just shut down.  Rang the phone then vibrated for 2 minutes bank screen, will not turn on, also tried charging and will not charge.  Any suggestions?  I did download a ringtone app and went on to iTunes to sync!.

Try charging the iPhone via a wall socket for at least 30 minutes then try a reset by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button and the home button for 20 seconds (maybe longer) until the Apple logo appears, ignore the red slider.  Then turn back on. You won't lose any data doing the reset.

    Hi candybooist,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has steps you can take if your iPhone is unexpectedly powering off:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • Spontaneous shutting down.

My Power iMAc G5 10.4.11 is spontaneously shutting down when I close all open apps.
This has never happened before and energy saver shutdown does not appear active when checked.
I know this is an old iMac and I will be replacing it later this year, but it works fine otherwise and does everything that I need it to.
    Any advice?
    Many thanks.

    Have you reset the SMU?

  • Why does iPad spontaneously shut down apps?

My iPad has started spontaneously shutting down Apps, with no action from me. I try to make sue I don't have too many Apps opened that are not in use, so I don't think it's a memory issue. Sometimes it actually causes a restart, but not always. Anyone else experiencing similar actions?

    Hi,
Restore your iPad but not from a backup as you may re introduce the problem all over again.
    Instructions here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
You may want to sync maybe 5 apps at a time after the restore, then test the iPad. Might be one app that's the culprit.

  • My MBP (2007 intel) freezes or spontaneously shuts down and crackling comes from the speakers.

My MBP (2007 intel) freezes or spontaneously shuts down and crackling comes from the speakers. Sometimes this happens together all at once? It happens with and without peripherals. Has this happened to anyone else?
It does not seem to be linked to a specific program or periferal use.
I would appreciate if someone can shed some light on this.

Run the Apple Hardware Test and swee if any issues are discovered.  Also a SMC and PRAM resets may help.
    Ciao.

  • When I turned my Macbook on and signed in, it has been shutting down automatically and restarting itself immediately after opening the desktop. The error message said, I'd shut down my computer unexpectedly. How can I get it to stop shutting down on me?

Since downloading OS X Mavericks, my computer has been shutting down midway of starting up. Please help! The problem began after downloading the software free update. Now when I start my computer, it will starts up normal but when the desktop appears, there will be an error message that I shut down my computer because of an error and if I would like to open the applications that were open before the sudden shut down I should press continue. Then when I select continue, it will open up another communication window that my computer is restarting because of an error. Then the screen will revert to shutting down and restarting again. This has been going on now all morning. Can someone hlep me on how to resolve this issue?

Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Do they launch OK while in Safe Mode?
