ITunes Has Stopped Seeing my Music...

Hello,
I have my iTunes library on a network share (instead of my MacBook), and it's never been a problem until a couple days ago.
Here are the symptoms: any new music/podcasts added - no problem. Every morning I refresh my podcasts, and iTunes finds the Library on the networked share and copies the new podcasts to it. No problem. However all of the rest of my 3600+ songs/podcasts (anything added prior to just a few days ago) have little question-marks in front of them. If I click on them, I get the "iTunes can not locate this song, would you like to locate it?" error. If I click "yes" and navigate to the iTunes library on the network share, then iTunes can find it.
Also, after a reboot of the MacBook, iTunes resets the library location back to the default (MacBook/Users/Joe/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music). Just quitting/restarting the iTunes app does not do this. It's never done this before. I can't figure out what's changed.
After a reboot, I've changed the library location back to the music folder on the network share (several times). I've tried "Consolidate Library" several times. Nothing seems to work.
Can anyone tell me what's going on and how to fix it? Thanks!
Joe

Oh, if only it were that easy. The former location (harddrive) of the iTunes library has been moved to a new location on the network.
Cast:
Workshop PC (Red Hat Linux)
Old Office PC (Red Hat Linux)
New Office PC (Ubuntu Linux)
External Harddrive
Plot:
A newcomer to the home network disrupts the status-quo. Hilarity ensues.
Scene One:
The iTunes library was on a 2nd harddrive in Workshop PC. Library was copied to External Harddrive (this is the step that I should have let iTunes perform).
Scene Two:
New Office PC is installed. It is assigned network name "OfficePC". External Harddrive containing new copy of iTunes library is connected to OfficePC.
Scene Three:
2nd harddrive from Workshop PC (containing original iTunes library) is removed and placed in OfficePC for use as network storage. Workshop PC is retired.
Scene Four:
Old Office PC is moved into workshop to replace retired Workshop PC. Harddrive is wiped and a fresh install of Ubuntu is performed. Old Office PC is reborn as "Workshop".
Epilogue:
So it's not really possible to move the iTunes library back to where it was. How about this: what if I copy the library to the default location on the MacBook? (MacBook/Users/Joe/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music) Then reboot. As I mentioned earlier, iTunes seems to default back to this location after a reboot. So then I point iTunes to a new location on the External Harddrive and Consolidate. Sound reasonable?

  • ITunes has stopped syncing my music

A day ago, I discovered that my ipod touch 5th gen had only some of my recently purcahsed content on it even though I have instructed iTunes to sync most of my iTunes Library (and it has been this way for months). I  went back to iTunes to verify the settings hadn't changed and they were as I left them. For some reason iTunes or the iPod has deleted many of my playlists, albums, etc. iTunes shows my ipod as almost but not full. I tried syncing again and now iTunes shows all the space from the deleted music and recordings. So, in summary even though my settings in iTunes are correct, iTunes is not syncing my music and has infact deleted it from my ipod. What gives? ANy help would be appreciated

It sounds like you previously synced to another iTunes library or computer. If you do so the contents on the iPod are replaced with what is in the liTunes library of the computer.
To make this you syncing computer see:

Also, if other devices or computers are using the same Apple ID, items purchased on another device and computer will automatically download on your iPod id Automatic Downloads are turned on in Settings>iTunes and App stores.

  • 'iTunes has stopped working' during music sync!

    Hi,
I've had this issue for months now, and it occurs with both my iPod nano and my iPhone. The sync goes fine, until it comes to copying new tracks over, then it crashes! Does anyone have any ideas? I haven't been able to sync my devices for months now. It seems to have occurred after the update to iTunes 10.

  • TS1286 Hi; I am using windows 7, and have an ipod touch 4g. Itunes has stopped seeing it.

when I go to restore the ipod, it gives me an error 1604. I have restarted my computer, switched usb ports, verified usb 2.0, updated itunes, and switched cables, but still get the error. Now the ipod will only power up to the 'connect to itunes' screen unless I put it in the mode it needs to be in to be restored. What next?

If you have not taken the iPod apart, Apple will exchange it for a refurbished one for $99. You can do it an an Apple store

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • Itunes 9.1 wont start, says itunes has stopped working

I have a windows vista home premium 32 bit gateway laptop/pc, with a wired connection for internet. I have had no trouble for 3 years with past itunes but now with 9.0 and 9.1 it simply just wont start at all. When I double click on itunes I get, "itunes has stopped working and windows will notify you if a solution is avaible". I have tried to talk to numerous apple specialists but no can do because for them to troubleshoot with you, one has to own an apple product like ipod with serial number for them to actually help. I got rid of my ipod a long time ago, so I guess the option of talking to a non-robotic person will not work for some reason. A specialist gave me over 10 articles as to why itunes wont start with windows vista, things such as msconfig (changing startup options), uninstalling and reinstalling, having latest updates for firewall, itunes, among others which I already possess, Opening itunes on another user account and other too. I've tried all of these options and the only thing that I gained from all of these articles was I can open itunes on my different user account but when I do, it does not have any of my music on it. I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled it before and the music has automatically showed up in itunes, but in the user account it does not do this. Does anyone know what the problem could be, it shouldn't be that hard for apple to provide a specialist to sit down after 30 minutes of eating there creme filled donuts and actually provide some customer service for the first time in history. Rhapsody has sat down for 2 and half hours and fixed my problem many times, (there based in the middle east and I can hardly understand them yet they were way more effient than itunes was). All I want is my precious metal music back which I poured over 100 dollars into. Thank you for everybodies support in trying to help me and others with same topic.

+I have checked in task manager and the programs itunes.exe and ituneshelper.exe are in the processes window but the program is not visible on the desktop.+
that usually means your security software is blocking it. Norton, McAfee, or whatever you use - try temporarily shutting it off and see if itunes will fully launch.

  • ITunes has Stopped Working in Vista

Browsing this forum, I see quite a few people are having trouble with the newest version of iTunes.
Ever since I upgraded to iTunes 7.5 a few weeks ago on my 32-bit Vista Ultimate, the program will no longer run. When I try to start iTunes, I get a message saying "iTunes has stopped working. Windows can check online for a solution to the problem." Also, whenever I start up Windows, I get a similar message saying "iTunesHelper Module has stopped working."
When I tell Windows to check online for a solution, it just gives me a page telling me there's a newer version of iTunes, but it is the newest version that I'm trying to run.
    Any thoughts?

This solution has worked on one of my 4 computers so I can't guarantee but it might be worth a try.
Uninstall Itunes and Quicktime. Reboot your computer
    Empty out the recycle bin
Use Search to locate any and all files and folders that reference itunes or quick time. Of course do not touch your music folder.
Delete all these references to itunes and quick time.
    Reboot.
Download a standalone version of Quick time and install.
Download Itunes (I used version 7.4.1 that I obtained from Oldapps.com.)
Once this was done I was able to run itunes on my laptop. I did upgrade to 7.5 but I could not get my sons nano 8GB to sync so I reverted back to 7.4.1 and it works just fine.
I have yet to get itunes working on My wifes vista laptop and it quit working on my XP desktop some time ago (I have never used it and wouldn't care except my son just bought the nano) Itunes a version prior to 7.4 was running on my sons laptop until he upgrade to 7.5 when he bought the nano, just last Friday, and 7.5 totally borked things up. Aside note is that his hard drive crashed a day later, but I don't think that had anything to do with it.
If you read through this board you will find that itunes and windows are not getting along well at all. If you have a "new" ipod be it nano, classic or what ever I beleive you must use version 7.4 or newer. It seems to me that if Apple really wants floks to buy these things they should be sure the primary piece of software is stable and works!

  • I found a solution for my "iTunes has stopped working" problem

iTunes was opening ok but would only play music; if I tried doing anything else like importing music or even navigating around it would crash with a "itunes has stopped working" message and shut down.
I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes twice with no luck. I searched for hours for a solution and finally figured it out.
What the problem was is a corrupt user profile. I determined this by creating a new user account on my computer, opening itunes under this new account, and doing the things that would make it crash under my original account.
Since it worked fine under my new account, I had to then transfer all of my user profile info from my previous account to my new one. Which is kind of a pain in the butt but not too bad.
There are instructions for doing this on the Microsoft site. One thing to make sure if that you setup the new account as an admin (the way I did it, per the instructions, was to setup a third account that transferred the files from the original to the new account) and to share all files under the user profile with "Everyone" so that they can be copied and transferred. I did have trouble trying to copy all of the files at once and paste. It didn't work. So I ended up copying individual folders and pasting them into the new account. You only need to do this with the folders that contain your individual data, e.g. My Music, My Pictures, etc. The way I figured out which folders and files to transfer was trying to open them under the new account. If they wouldn't open, they didn't need to be transferred. Anyway, rely on Microsoft instructions for this, I'm not a computer wiz myself.
Hope this helps someone because it took me a couple of days to figure it out!

Adobe CS4 products were never meant to be transferred. It breaks the licensing and you get this error.
There is a License Recovery tool for the Mac, download that from:
Error "Licensing has stopped working" | Mac OS
For OSX 10.7 and above you can try fixing it using the Python Script and Terminal app. If you succeed, this will save you from Plan B, reinstalling Photoshop and illustrator plus all the updates.
    So basically
    Open Terminal
Type sudo and leave a space
Then download and unpack the LicenseRecovery111 dmg.
Inside you will find the License Recovery folder and inside that you will see "LicenseRecover.py
Drag LicenseRecover.py into the Terminal Window and press "enter"   You should see this:
Enter your admin password. Ignore the fact that the cursor does not move and press Enter again.
Follow the instructions, and when done, you can quit the Terminal.
It should then be repaired. Try starting your programs.

  • Itunes has stopped responding

I have tried every thing suggested i this forum about fixing this. The message I get is that iTunes has stopped responding, Windows is looking for a solution to the problem. Then it wants to close iTunes. This only happens when i try to access the store. My music and podcasts and everything else works fine. Just can't go to the store. Just downloaded the lates and greates version of iTunes. Below is the error i get in the event viewer and of course windows Tech support is no help.
