ITunes has stopped working on windows 8

I have been unable to connect to iTunes for two days.. I have followed the uninstall and reinstall process . Still no luck.. Clicking the iTunes icon in windows gives me one of two things... 1 nothing happens or 2 it comes up with a windows message telling me that iTunes has stopped working...

Hi, kerry229.
Here are a couple helpful troubleshooting articles that I would recommend when experiencing issues with iTunes becoming unresponsive or unexpectedly closing.

I have the same issue. An iTunes help page (iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues - Apple Support) suggested I hold down shift and control when clicking to open iTunes, which opens iTunes fine for me. That would mean the problem is in the third party plug-ins that work with iTunes. However, the help pages did not say what to do with the plug-ins once I knew that was the issue. The pages said to find the plug-ins and move them to the Desktop, which I did. That's where the help pages stopped, which is ridiculous. Does anyone know what to do from there?

  • I have iTunes 11.4 and Windows 7. Using iTunes on Windows 7, I get message that iTunes has stopped working and Windows will close the program and notify me if a solution is available. Same message for last two days. Anyone else getting this?

I have iPad 2, iPhone 5s, both with iOS 7.1.2. I use PC with Windows 7 and hard wire internet service and iTunes to update apple products; no wi-fi. I updated iTunes to v11.4 on 09/11/14. I ran Windows update on 09/10/14. I did not try to open iTunes on my PC until yesterday 09/16/14. I got the message: "iTunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  I got the same message today.  Does anyone know if this is a Windows problem and if a solution is coming or an iTunes problem?  I can get iTunes on iPad and iPhone.  All other programs PC are working correctly.  I use Norton Internet Service on PC.  I ran virus scans and repair/reinstall iTunes yesterday on PC.

  • "Itunes has stopped working" in Windows Vista 64bit

I am at my wits end!  My I tunes will usually load but if it opens in my library and I try to access the Itunes store it always crashes with the "Itunes Has Stopped Working" error message.  "Windows is checking for a solution" follows but nothing is ever found.
I've tried completely removing Itunes and reinstalling. I've tried updating all drivers including the one for my ATI video card. I've scanned for viruses and maleware.  I even downgraded from Itunes 10 to Itunes 9 which seemed to work for about a day.
I've also done the sfc /scannow which showed some file issues but none that looked to be a problem.  One thing....my Gateway PC came preloaded with Windows Vista and I do not have an installation disk.
When I check the details on the crash this is the info that I get:
I've tried just about everything I could find I still keep having this problem.  Usually Itunes will start but if I click on a song in my library or try to go to the Itunes store it will crash.  Here is the info I get about the crash:

Does anybody have any ideas or hints?  Would upgrading to Windows 7 potentially fix this problem?
    HELP!!!!!

If we're talking about the (third-party, not-produced-by-AMD) ATI Tray Tools utility, the drivers for the utility are a bit scruffy. They've caused some trouble for the QuickTime Player since before the itunes versions 10.x came out, but after a while the issues started to ramify through to iTunes as well as QuickTime. The precise nature of the symptoms seems to depend on which combination of iTunes/QuickTime versions and ATI Tray Tool versions you've got, too.
On a 64-bit system, it's probably worth trying first adding iTunes.exe to the Auto 2d/3d and osd exception list. But just recently someone got past this sort of thing by disabling "Show FPS" on a 32-bit system:

  • "iTunes has stopped working" on Windows 7 64-bit

First time using this forum so please forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong place.
I bought a new Gateway desktop running Windows 7 64 bit.  The first thing I tried to install on this new computer is iTunes.  I downloaded and installed V10.5.1 64 bit from the Apple site.  Every time I try to open iTunes I get "iTunes has stopped working" and it shuts down.  I am not able to get into iTunes at all.  I read all the support forums regarding this issue, cleaned my folders, uninstalled and reinstalled, etc and nothing is working.  Can someone please help me?  I am not a techie and do not have debuggers, etc.
    Thank you for your time.

i had the same problem try this out, it has worked for me.
go to my computer > local drive (C:) > Program Files (X86) > Itunes.
once you get there if you see an Itunes icon that just says "Itunes" change the file name to "Itunes.exe."
then try and boot up itunes. lemme know if this works for you

  • Itunes launches fine however I cannot connect to the Itunes store.  It says that Itunes has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution.

Everything seems fine until I try to access the ITunes store.  Then I get a message that ITunes has stopped working and that Windows is looking for a solution.  Then it tells me that no solution has been found and closes down Itunes.
I can still sync music / podcasts to my ipod and iphone.  I am still getting podcast downloads automatically for the ones I have subscribed to.
This is the first time this issue with not being able to access the Itune stores has happened to me.  I was just there 2 nights ago.

  • Itunes has stopped working in windows 8 when I try to access itunes store

itunes seems to be working ok, but when i try to access the itunes store, i get a message that itunes has stopped working correctly and windows will close the program.  i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes several times (the recommended long way, which uninstalls all apple programs), but i still have the same problem.  someone please help so i can access the itunes store!!!

Exact same thing is happening to me. Couldn't find where to view the Itunes version number after a quick look. I hate the "simplified" interface by the way. On windows 8.1. Really starting to hate itunes, very buggy, and apple device locked down content (I'm looking at you TV shows and Movies) make it a pain to use.

This is the simplest fix, if you're still having a problem with it.  I had the same problem, am running Windows 8.1.  Just be sure to reboot after you copy the dll (dynamic link library) file indicated.
    Copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes

  • Itunes has stopped working. Windows will close the program....

    Hi, i need some help.
I plug in my iphone, Autoplay pops up and itunes opens... i then immediately get this message:
"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". Itunes then closes.
I have checked the Driver through Device Manager and my driver is updated. I have uninstalled quicktime and downloaded again (non itunes version) and restarted etc etc... still giving me the same message. This is happening on both my work and personal computers. Any thoughts would be apreciated.

Are you able to start Quicktime successfully?

  • ITunes Has Stopped Working on Windows XP

Running a Windows Xp with up to date service packs PC. Double clicking the iTunes icon initiates a short load followed by the program loading into task list but not opening.
To rememdy I have uninstalled iTunes, Quicktime, Apple Updater, Bonjour and every other Apple application installed on the system. I redownloaded the latest install package for iTunes.
Same problem. I'm also noticing that other people in the forums are experiencing the same issue which makes me suspicious that either nobody tested or did not test the latest build well enough before pushing it out.
Please advise on a fix or when a new compatible build will be released. As is now, my iPod is useless. If I don't get this fixed soon I'll take it back to the store before the return policy runs out.
    Thanks.

    Hi hovis.
Given that we've got two different common issues at the moment producing those two error messages (and a couple of other possibilities as well), it'd be a good idea to check the error messages more closely prior to checking on Amanda's solution.
Can you provoke an "iTunes has encountered a problem" message, please? Click on the "click here" link in the box, and note down the ModName and ModVer of the problem. (If there isn't a ModName or ModVer shown, let us know what error type you're getting: eg, InPageError or BEX.)
Also provoke a "QuickTime has encountered a problem" message, please? Click on the "click here" link in the box. Is the problem type a BEX?
