ITunes has stopped working upon opening Windows 8.1

I uninstalled and reinstalled my iTunes and it wont open.....Help??

Can you open iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes)?
If so go to Edit > Preferences > Store and turn off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.
Also go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Reset Cache.
And for good measure sign out of the iTunes Store.
You may find iTunes will now start normally.

  • ITunes Store access causes "iTunes has Stopped working...Windows is check..

When accessing iTunes Store from iTunes, which has worked well for several years, it stops half-way through progress bar and then I get the "iTunes has Stopped working...Windows is checking..."..then " A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you..."
Probably not a related problem, but also, when synching with an iPhone that I recently reset, copying just 188 tracks in selected playlists to transfer to the iPhone, the copying stops and hangs after just a few tracks, so this is unsuccessful too.
Another iPhone worked a synch but fewer tracks to download!
I've uninstalled and re-installed iTunes 9.2 etc - doesn't fix problem. Any help please?

Wow, that is crazy .... but it worked! Thanks for taking the time to post that up as I would never have even dreamed of thinking that the display drivers would stop iTunes working... that *****.
For any one else - this was Windows Vista on a Dell inspiron, went to Start menu-> Settings-> Control Panel-> Device Manager -> Display Adaptors -> right click on ATI Radeon (in my case) and then "Update driver software" and let windows search the web

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post:

  • ITunes has stopped working message! Windows is shutting it down. Etc etc.

My iTunes won't complete a sync ever since I updated to latest software. I've done all the uninstall reinstall suggestions and it still diesnt work on windows 7 home premium! How can I fix this? I can't live without music on my phone!

    Im having the same problem.
I phoned Apple Customer Care and spoke to a very helpfull man who took me through some trouble shooting processes before suggesting I uninstall and re install.
I did this but am still having the same problem.
Have you had any luck fixing yours?

  • Hi there, I have recently noticed that Itunes has stopped working on my Windows Vista PC. I wasn't too concerned about it as I had everything on my iphone and rarely used it. But I recently bought an iPad and I want to sync it to my itunes account.

I am getting a message that the Data Execution Protection Settings are closing the itunes program. But , when I try to change the DEP settings it is not possible to do it for itunes. I have also tried to un-install and reinstall the itunes ( and apple related programs ) but that hasn't worked either. I am not sure that I have done that correctly though as I have been told it is difficult to do? Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

I knew that, my question was more about the viability of using the ATV without having a TV connected and contolling it directly from an iPad to stream music.

  • When I open iTunes, I am told that iTunes has stopped working properly

Apologies if I am opening a discussion thread that has already been covered, but I failed to find the same issue in the Community.
When I start iTunes it briefly opens but then I am told that iTunes has stopped working and that Windows is looking for a solution. A further message then tells me that a problem caused the programme to stop working correctly. Windows will close the programme and notify me if a solution is found.
So far no solution has been forthcoming. I have uninstalled iTunes and downloaded fresh install but the problem still exists.
I have pasted the following Problem report. I am running Vista with Service Pack 2  -  32 bit version.

My itunes has stopped working out of nowhere. When I open iTunes a message appears stating "iTunes has stopped working." and windows closes iTunes sayng it will look for a solution. • Itunes launches fine however I cannot connect to the Itunes store.  It says that Itunes has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution.

Everything seems fine until I try to access the ITunes store.  Then I get a message that ITunes has stopped working and that Windows is looking for a solution.  Then it tells me that no solution has been found and closes down Itunes.
I can still sync music / podcasts to my ipod and iphone.  I am still getting podcast downloads automatically for the ones I have subscribed to.
This is the first time this issue with not being able to access the Itune stores has happened to me.  I was just there 2 nights ago.

  • Itunes has stopped working in windows 8 when I try to access itunes store

itunes seems to be working ok, but when i try to access the itunes store, i get a message that itunes has stopped working correctly and windows will close the program.  i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes several times (the recommended long way, which uninstalls all apple programs), but i still have the same problem.  someone please help so i can access the itunes store!!!

Exact same thing is happening to me. Couldn't find where to view the Itunes version number after a quick look. I hate the "simplified" interface by the way. On windows 8.1. Really starting to hate itunes, very buggy, and apple device locked down content (I'm looking at you TV shows and Movies) make it a pain to use.

  • Itunes Has Stopped Working, Program closes

I have recently just updated my Itunes and it has stopped working. This happened in a previous updated version, but after a reinstall i was able to get it to work. This time it did not work, and I can't seem to find a way to get the program to work now.
    The error looks like this...
I open itunes from shortcut on desktop or exe file from program file
I see itunes is opened up, i can see my playlists/songs everything
Before i get a chance to do anything windows pops up with a window and says
"Itunes has stopped working...windows is checking for a solution to the problem...A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I can only click on the "close program" button.
I have tried a reinstall twice now, and am lost for ideas on how to fix this. I'm not amazing at troubleshooting problems, so I've posted the error that shows up in my event log. Any help would be appreciated so i can continue to use the itunes store, and update my iphone.

Okay, taken at face value this is suggesting there's a problem with your QuickTime (which makes sense in context, because iTunes requires a properly functioning QuickTime in order to run).
So, let's first try swapping out your existing QuickTime.
Head into your "Uninstall a program" control panel. Uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we'll clear away any leftover QuickTime program files or folders.
    Restart your computer.
After the computer restarts, open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer or whichever hard disk your programs are installed on.
    Open the Program Files folder.
Right-click the QuickTime folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
Open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer or whichever hard disk your operating system is installed on. Open the Windows folder. Open the System32 folder.
Right-click the QuickTime file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
Right-click the QuickTimeVR file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
Right-click the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
Restart the PC and download and save a copy of the QuickTime standalone installer to your hard drive (get the one that doesn't mention iTunes):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Install QuickTime by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file.
Restart again, and try launching iTunes again. Does it launch without the error this time?

  • MESSAGE - itunes has stopped working correctly

    Hi,
I have recently transferred to a new PC and installed itunes 10.5.
When opening itunes i receive the error message:
"itunes has stopped working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Needless to say no solution is received.
A suggestion in another post on this subject in the Apple Support Communities thought this was related to itunes trying to access the itunes store and failing. Following this solution (which worked for the person who had the problem with his iphone) I:
    disconnected from the internet
    opened itunes
    syncd my ipod touch
    enabled the internet
    closed itunes and re-opened it.
When NOT connected to the interent all was well and I synd my ipod touch. However on re-connecting to the interent I received the same error massage.  This suggests that the problem is something to do with the program trying to access the internet.
Has anyone any suggestions as to how I can solve this problem? It may not be relevant but I use AVG Internet Sucurity 2012.
    Thanks, Martin

    Great!!
