Itunes help file missing after 10.5 upgrade - Help!

upgrade itunes to 10.5 through auto updater... and now there is no help funtion.   Just a message about missing URL.   I am of course online and all other sites work.  How can they screw-up an upgrade like this!  Now I waste my Sunday trawling the forums.

Have you looked directly in the folder Library/Fonts to make sure the font is really missing (and you are not just getting a bad message from iWeb)? If you open TextEdit and do Format > Font > Show Fonts, is this font really missing from the list?

  • 'iTunes.smi file missing'. Can't open iTunes

I got a seriously problem to open iTunes grogram on my PC.
'iTunes.smi file missing' or 'can't located' prompted  when I intented to repair, uninstall or reinstall. I'd tried to seek this file in my local C driver and My Network Space. but un success. So I can’t open my iTunes in any way.
A captured screen attached below when I tried to repair
A captured screen attached below when I tried download from Apple web and install iTunes .

What follows is a LOG that I took as I dealt with the above problem noted in this post. I apologize for the *CAPS LOCK SYNDROME* and the *AKWARD NATURE OF MY PROCESS* but *IT WORKED!!!*
*IWEB REDESIGN PROBLEM (April 13, 2008)*
    1. OPEN DOMAIN FILE AND RENAMED 'index-new.xml' to 'index.xml'
    2. STILL NO CHANGE AND CANNOT OPEN IWEB FILE!
    3. AFTER SOME TIME IT OPENED THE FILE BUT COULDN'T FIND ALL MEDIA FILES (LINK SEEMED BROKEN)
    4. COPIED BOTH DOMAIN AND DOMAIN.SITES FILE TO EXTERNAL HD.
    5. TRASHED REMAINING DOMAIN FILES FROM APPLICATION SUPPORT/ IWEB FOLDER.
    6. TRANSFERED ORIGINAL DOMAIN FILE (SAVED) FROM EXTERNAL HD TO INTERNAL HD IWEB FOLDER.
    7. DELETED PLIST FILE FROM PREFERENCES.
    8. OPENED IWEB APPLICATION WHICH CREATED NEW DOMAIN FILE (of course).
    9. TRASHED NEW DOMAIN FILE.
    10. TRIED TO OPEN ORIGINAL DOMAIN FILE WHICH I RENAMED AS 'Domain (redesign 2008)' BUT IT WOULDN'T! STARTING FROM NEW DOMAIN FILE INSTEAD!
    11. TRIED TO RENAME THE ORIGINAL FILE BACK TO JUST 'DOMAIN' AND WALLAH AFTER MUCH TRIAL AND ERROR ORIGINAL FILE IS BACK EXACTLY AS I LEFT IT BEFORE UPLOADING TO .MAC ACCOUNT LAST NIGHT.
    THOUGHTS:
Something definitely happened to the original domain file when it was being uploaded to .mac account and the renaming of the index.xml file to index-new.xml plus the inclusion of another 'Domain.sites' file in my iWeb folder where originally there was only one 'Domain' file caused the confusion and resulting panic that followed! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
The crazy thing is that this will probably happen again as I make more changes (redesign) and upload them to the mac server. If someone has a *REAL FIX* to prevent this CHANGE from happening - *PLEASE POST THIS HERE!*
Good luck to all who read this and remember: 'When there is a will, there is a way!'

  • Cannot install iTunes in Windows XP because of a iTunes.msi file missing error.

I'm running Itunes on Windows XP.  Get an error message of Itunes.msi file missing.  Cannot remove Itunes via the control panel; get an error the network file path for a file is missing.  Itunes repair does not work.  How can I remove Itunes and reinstall?

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • 7.5 won't install ... 'iTunes.msi' file missing...

Trying to install the new iTunes 7.5 because I'm getting an iPhone tomorrow and want to have the latest version for the phone (I currently have 7.3). However, it says that the iTunes.msi file is missing...and I can't find it either. I can't upgrade my version of iTunes or even uninstall what I do have right now because I can't find the freaking file. Any ideas as to what I should do?
Thanks to anyone who can help, it is VERY much appreciated...

With a missing iTunes .msi message, try the following procedure.
First, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. If it goes, good. If it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to iTunes.
Next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility.
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Use it to clear any existing iTunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC. Launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover iTunes or QuickTime program files:
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the iTunes folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. (Note: This folder may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (5) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue. (Note: These files may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (6) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (7) Restart your computer.
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Itunes won't open after OS10.3 upgrade to 10.4

Have installed OS 10.4 Tiger upgrade onto old Macbook G4 with no problem. Tried to open itunes but msg reads: needs 10.4.9 or newer' why??
Previous OS 10.3.9 was running itunes fine. Have OS 10.5 disc but Mac will not restart after initial prompt. Only have 4G left on HD but Safari etc is running ok since upgrade.
itunes mp3 files are still in system but obv cannot open any of them.

You definitely need to free up HD space. My computer uses 6GB for running Tiger. I always try to leave 18GB free. Some say "15% of HD size" but that (IMHO) is a very vague suggestion in these days where people run anything from 20 - 1000 GB HDs. I checked how much HD my computer was using in Activity Monitor and the virtual memory stats., then tripled that so the computer wouldn't be slow hunting for space.
If you don't free up space Tiger will likely crash and maybe corrupt your drive in the process. Your computer may also slow to a crawl. Lots of G4 owners run Tiger but find they have to upgrade RAM and HD from original.

  • Error file missing when trying to upgrade

I reinstalled Elements 11 onto my laptop.  When I try to use my upgrade that is in my Adobe file it says there is a file missing.  I have deinstalled and reinstalled and the same error comes up.

you need both the exe and the 7z files (file 1 of 2 and file 2 of 2).  put both in the same directory and click the exe.

  • ITunes library file corrupt after updating?

Just the other day I updated to the latest iTunes software. This is the first time I've tried to use it and it keeps freezing (the swirly rainbow icon) until I eventually have to give up and force quit. My iTunes library is on an external hard drive which has admittedly been taking longer and longer to boot up each time I connect it, I don't know if this is related.
After doing some research on here I created a new test iTunes library on my hard drive and it worked perfectly, so it must be a corrupt library file? I followed the advice on an old thread and replaced the corrupt library file with an older one from December.
It worked....but here's the complication. Since that last backup in December I started using iTunes Match. When I opened the older library file, I saw that iTunes Match wasn't turned on, so I turned it on and it was saying that none of my library had been uploaded to iCloud except for iTunes purchases. I quickly exited, because frankly I couldn't bear the thought of all my library having to be uploaded to iCloud again (it took days and days...and days!). The music is still on the iCloud, but if I open that older version of my iTunes library it doesn't seem to think that it is.
Any idea what I should do?
    Thanks for your help

hmmmm. perhaps try running a chkdsk over the drive on which your iTunes library file is stored:
How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
does that find/repair any damage? if so, do you still get the same message from your itunes?

  • Iphoto, imovie, iweb missing after mountain lion upgrade...

I have a mid 2010 iMac that I have kept up to date and recently upgraded to Mountian Lion.  Everything has been fine except that I noticed that iLife was missing right after the update...  And I didn't purchase it in the app store because it came with my iMac.  In fact, the iMac came with Snow Leopard on it I think. But I haven't the slightest idea where that disk is because we lost a few things that I haven't located yet in our move last year.  I have another copy of Snow Leopard that I goes to my 2009 MacBook that I already had.  It seems quite frustrating that the programs just disappeared and they've never done that before on any other upgrade!  I have no need to purchase and upgrade to iLife 11 as I only use iPhoto and iMovie for iPhone photos/video because I have everything else in LightRoom already.  But I would like iPhoto/iMovie back!  How do I go about doing this?  Can i use my backup to get it back somehow?  Just confused on how to tget it back and my searches yielded very little...  Thanks!

sorry...  i meant '09 version...  I just knew it wasn't '11 (assumed '09) because I haven't upgraded to the '11 versions.  I said iLife because I lost all 3-iphoto, iweb and imovie.  Well, I see that iweb isn't a part of '11 and is going away and i am just now seeing that.  And noticing that I lost GarageBand in addition (i just don't use it to notice it was also missing after the upgrade).
And again, they all came installed on my computer, not from me purchasing it via app store.  Technically I guess it wasn't a part of the OS, I just meant that it came with the imac and was part of my imac purchase.  I only remember having an install disk (not a seperate ilife disk) that came with my imac but i am unable to find any of it because of a move (and haven't located the disks that came with the 2010 iMac).  Again, I have the snow leopard os upgrade disk that I purchased (prior to buying my imac in 2010) that I bought to upgrade my 2009 MacBook Pro.  But again, it isn't the SL install disk that came with the 2010 iMac (which is the computer we are discussing here)  However, my 2009 MacBookPro was upgraded to ML right after I upgraded the iMac on the same exact dayand I DID NOT lose iphoto, iweb, imovie and garageband on that MacBook Pro.  And it was the 09' also because I had not upgraded either computer to '11 version.  So, the programs went missing on the imac upgrade only, and not the macbook-so there has to be a reason why...  I did not mean that iLife came with an OS Upgrade -only that it came with all purchased apple computers. sorry!
Sberman-I will try to load the iphoto link that you gave above and see if it restores the iphoto and my catalog, etc. Someone I know suggested that it's all still there - but i am just missing the iphoto programs (and other programs) for some reason and all should be restored once it's reloaded.

  • HT4477 One complete family file missing after installing iPhoto 11 ??

One complete family file of photo's is missing after installing iPhoto 11. Installation went smoothly, and all other files complete. Have checked thru entire photo lists, including photo list at the top. Found two photo's in that should have been in that photo list that were downloaded 2 months prior to installing iPhoto 11. I keep files of each family branch on left side iPhoto window. Only the one file is missing. ????

I meant folder. Have 6 kids, and to keep track of each family quickly, I set up folders on left side of iPhoto. All others are there.

  • Music file damage after 9.1 upgrade

I upgraded to itunes 9.1 the other day and now many of the songs I purchased from itunes are damaged. When I try to play them, they skip and play very slowly. Does anyone else have this problem or know how I can fix this problem?

I have the same situation here. The files in questions are the no-longer sold iTunes store file format of M4P. Most likely it will have to be addressed in a future upgrade.

  • Help files missing after upgrade to PS CS5

Upgraded from CS4 to CS5... reinstalled in a second time... still unable to load help files... second install, same messages saying ...AIR, Media Player and Help did not install...

Solved problem by finding a folder in CS5 Photoshop set up files..  under the folder payloads.. and installing setup file for Adobe Help from there.. also installed updates from Adobes website for Media Player and Air

  • Hundreds of files "missing" after upgrade?

After I upgraded to the new iTunes, there are hundreds of files that are marked with the exclamation point, and it says they can't be located. I tried following the instructions on the support site to replace my library file with a previous one, but that didn't work. I tried re-copying my music files into my iTunes music folder, and I see the files there, but that still didn't help. I can double-click on each and tell it to locate the file, and I find it and replace the one that's there. It works for that individual song, and then I get the option to look in the same location for the other files, but it always says that none of them could be found (they're all right there). Is there any way to avoid doing this individually for a few hundred songs? And whyyyyy did iTunes screw up my whole library after the upgrade? So frustrating. I want to go back to when it worked...

You get exclamation marks or dead tracks because iTunes can’t find the file. This can happen for a number of reasons:
The song file or a folder in its path was renamed
The song file or the folder it is in has been moved
The song file has been deleted
The device containing the song files e.g. external drive is not accessible or the drive letter has changed.
I can't tell you why it happened in your case.
DO you have your music library on an external drive? Things can go wrong if you start iTunes with it unplugged.
Anyway one thing you can do if all your tracks are bad is to drag iTunes library.it from your music folder to the desk top and then start iTunes. iTunes will create an empty library. Now youn can add your iTunes Media folder. This loses counts, ratings an play lists but it is quick.
If you don't like that, Something you can do to figure out what went wrong is to open iTunes Library.xml with WordPad.
    Look for lines starting <key>Location</key>
These contain the paths to files, note that spaces are replaced by %20.
By inspecting these it may be possible to figure out what went wrong and fix it.
You may need to make file extensions visible to identify itl and xml files.

  • MSVCR80.dll file missing (after latest iTunes update).  Unable to reinstall iTunes either.  Fixes?

After installing the latest iTunes update, I am unable to open iTunes (The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer).  Plugging in my iDevices won't prompt iTunes to open, either (they are viewed only as mass storage devices).  I attempted to reinstall iTunes, but recieved an error message that said I had insufficient rights to install (I am an administrator).  Is anyone else having similar problems?  Is there a way to fix it that won't include uninstalling the current version of iTunes?  Don't want to lose all my files!  Thanks for a rapid response, Community.  I appreciate all the help I can get.
